I am old enough to remember Kennedy. I remember how inspired I was as a child. No one in politics has inspired me since then...until now at 57. "Hope is a thing with wings that lifts us high enough to see the truth." Bob Perks Barack, you are Hope...you are truth. "I wish you enough!"
forget the past, forget his skin color, forget his endorsements. Shut your eyes, and JUST LISTEN. I am a repulican US Marine. All I can say is, simply amazing.
After listening to this speech yesterday, I was left with an incredible feeling of unity for my fellow Americans, much as I did after 9/11. I am an American Black woman and my hope (also my name: Hope) is that we can lift each other up and truly understand that EVERY Americans' success ensures America's success. I am so tired of the racial divide in our country. It is time to talk, to listen, to understand, to respect and to move on...together. We are ONE. And I love ALL of my fellow Americans.
I'm a Brazilian, so lets say I'm writing as just an spectator. I'm so profoundly and impressed with Barack Obama that I wish I could vote for him. His speeches are inspirational and the idea of having him leading America is a strong sign of new times and prosperity, in the US and around the World. As an Human being, I'm proud to be witnessing this election. Andre
I would like to sit with my entire family. Wife and kids and listen to this.wow, Magnificently written, beautifully delivered. this guy has challenged me in an enormous way
Obama , I am from India . I am very proud of you and America needs a person like you as President. The speech was pretty stunning . In addition to condeming the Pastors words the way you encourge your countrymen to Empathize with the "Black Experience" was really Amazing !! God bless you and my Prayers are with you . God Bless the World !
One of the most profound speeches I have ever witness, it is time for change! I am inspired. Makes me want to go and join the movement... What am I waiting for!?
I love Hillary. I respect McCain. And I AM VOTING OBAMA!!! This speech is a piece of art. Masterfully written and delivered. It's fierce, and graceful. Dignify and humble. I am deeply moved listening to this speech. My heart feels touched, and my spirit feels inspired. Yes, these are just words, AND these are words to inspire, and call forth honesty, dignity, and humanity in all of us. I am going to make a donation, if anything for the quality of this masterful piece of art.
After listening to this speech yesterday, I was left with an incredible feeling of pride and unity, much as I did after 9/11. I am an American Black woman and my hope (also my name: Hope) is that we can lift each other up and believe that your success does not come at the expense of my success. I am finished with the racial divide in our country. It stops NOW. It is time to talk, to listen, to understand, to respect and to move on...together. We are ONE. And I love ALL of my fellow Americans.
My hope is that people will take time to listen to the speech completely. It's a lot to ask for short attention span folk, but it makes a difference. He's earned the opportunity to be heard without edit and he doesn't disappoint. Excellent speech.
For the first time in U.S history , the question of race and its consequences in the non perfection has made a brilliant entrance in the Election Process. I sincerely hope that Obama will win . Not because he is african american but cause never would the message be more clear that America has decided to write a brand new page of its history . To my point of view the election of Obama as President of united States would definitly be the real beginning of the 21th Century as a new era
Whenever I think I'm too jaded to be moved, Barack gives another speech that gives me chills and makes me want to cry. He is a courageous man of conviction. He is truthful and honest and sincere. And he represents the best in all of us. ALL of us. I don't know that any one person can turn things around, but if anyone can, he can. God I hope he wins.
Mr. Barack Obama is wise and smart. He is a very well educated man and he has the ability to bring Americans together for a higher purpose. I encourage everyone to join me in voting for Change we can believe in. With Barack's leadership Yes We Can, and Yes We Will.
That was just the most amazing speech he's given thus far. 'A More Perfect Union' -- 'I Have A Dream.' Wow! If Obama doesn't become our next great president, I will surely be disappointed in the people of this nation. How can you not want this man to be our leader? GO-BAMA'08
I have NEVER been as proud as I am right now to be a Black American! This man has been ordained by God to lead this country. Obama has a spirit on him that is contagious and if you don't see that... then something is wrong with YOU! Phenominal speech!
His political courage is on par with his outstanding eloquence. He could have skirted the issue, but he dives right in and says things no other national politician has had the courage to say - and this in the middle of a political campaign. He is a miracle for this country.
Absolutely amazing, went straight to the root of the situation and ripped it right out. Barack is not afraid to stir up the muck that truly lies beneath all of our biases.....a true President
What a blessing we have as Americans in this election: To finally say "No" to the politics of division, distortion, distraction, and fear -- to say "Yes" to the policies of unity, solution, truth, and hope. I look forward to doing my part to help President Obama create the more perfect union he so beautifully describes in this speech.
It is great to hear eloquence and nuance. These words speak of hope, dreams and how to achieve them. Nobody who did not spend a life thinking about these ideas could have written this, it is genuine and heartfelt.
This is the only candidate I've known in my lifetime...whom I can see has a true passion for this position as president. His love for his country and the citizens can be seen in his eyes. I've never seen that before in any candidate of any position. Thank you Barack Obama.
This speech is the best speech on race that has been delivered, not surprisingly, by the most brilliant candidate we have had run for president in a very very long time. It is so timely and timeless.
What a great Speech by Obama.. Hi, I am Waki Abdullah a 30 yr old male student from "Bangladesh" and I love Obama .... Obama my political mentor, the living legend and the best political leader ever seen in my lifetime. Notice I am a "Bangladeshi". Still I have contributed little amount for Obama campaign because he is possibly the best Hope for World Peace. GodBless Obama, America and the world.
I am crying while I type this comment. Barack spoke today on the behalf of a lot people who want change but don't know how. This message touched my heart and I pray that america will seriously look at what divide us. I believe every person in the USA should see this video. Change can happen! Change will happen!
Masterful, messianic, and professorial. A speech so powerful, I am rendered speechless. It should now be apparent to any fence sitting, equivocating voter who the most contemplative, diplomatic, and unifying candidate is. The future is now, and only through togetherness will it be realized -- by releasing fear's grip and extending an open hand (heart and mind) to our neighbors, we shall create "a more perfect union." Tremendous. Thank you. Mr. Obama.
Brilliant, and more importantly, honest. In one sentence: "The racial misgivings are real, and arguably justified, but we have to choose whether to keep spinning it forever, or make an effort to end it."
In America, when you are less than an ounce of African descent, you are considered Black and treated accordingly (and differently). That's just how it is. Trust me....I know. I'm excited about his potential to be our next president. If he wins, he will be the first Black president in history, and it's definitely important to me, being an African American myself. It simply means progress & wonderful change. Don't take it offensively, okay? It,in no way means that any race is superior to another.
Not just a President or a leader... but a true hero. Telling the truth. Owning your mistakes. Allowing for differences. Being calm under pressure. Being true to yourself. How badly we need a hero. It only takes one. The right one.
A lot has been said about his lack of expirence, but expirence is so overrated. He is the type of person that can tackle real issues in a cool, calm way. He carries himself like a president! This speech is an instant American classic!
"Barack is the first candidate in my lifetime to strip some of this b.s. away and I just hope we don't blow this chance. Man, if we miss this opportunity, we don't deserve it." - Win Butler (The Arcade Fire) I don't know how many times in the past I've heard people mention they want a president like Obama, only to retract their statement for an illegitimate reason. Win Butler reminds us all that Obama exemplifies what we are all looking for, and it would be a tragedy to blow this oppurtunity
Here I am with tears rolling down my face after listening to this speech. I hope everyone here has contributed to his campaign...i did. not much, but i did. but remember, it takes a big man to cry...but it takes an even Bigger man, to laugh at that man.
As an American living overseas, in a homogenous society, where little is known about the outside world... I can still confidently talk about this man and have everyone agree with me. This man has GOT to win. The whole world is depending on this.
My mother is black from Trinidad(slave trade, and Venezuela), my father white, from australia, my sister is married to an arab, the other a Canadian, and I Danish woman. I too attended the best schools in the US, and the middle east, and jakarta, and singapore. His story can happen everywhere not just the US. It was nice to finally hear about him from him, and from another like him, but I look very white, go on brother and get yours, you deserve the presidency. Just know there are more of us.
I echo what everyone has said here and I have to say that despite my loss of words following that speech, any my slightly teary-eyed state, I am even more inspired by people's comments and confidence in his strength, and intelligence. This generation is the dream and we're realizing it.
America has been without a President who has great passion and insight for decades. I sincerely hope he becomes President. I anticipate history would reflect on his Presidency as equal to that of Lincoln, Jefferson and Teddy Roosevelt.
Finally there is someone on the National Stage with a level of understanding that can actually lift the USA to a better society. We owe it to ourselves and our children to fight for this man at this time. It will not be easy, but we must elect this man.
I'm French, and I wish too I could vote for Obama. This speech just gives you hope for the future. I agree with you, this man has great qualities and you feel you can trust him without being disappointed later. After eight years with Bush, Obama is the man America needs. The whole world is looking at the US, and we hope these eight years will become a bad souvenir very soon. Obama has the right vision of America, and the right answers for the American issues.
Good speech, even though he didn't even need too. That 'hate speech' wasn't that hateful. His word choice could have been more sensitive, but he was only telling the truth.
This is my favorite speech too! Love him or hate him, Obama has a gift for bringing people together of all races together. Maybe is because of his unique background! So when he trys to bring that same sense of togetherness on both sides in Congress, they block every agenda he proposes. & Democrats who are complaining that he hasn't done enough wonders why? You're not gonna get 99% of what you want with just 2 1/2 years of Obama being president! Obama has to fix 8 years of Bushes mistakes anyway
He recited this whole thing on his own. McCain would've recited it from a screen and would've screwed it up many times. Props to Obama for a great speech.
Oh, my god. I almost don't care that it was President Obama who made this speech--someone needed to! But I am totally thrilled that he DID make this speech. :)))) Thank you, sir!
his intellectuality is incredible. he has an amazing way of using words to convey his inner thoughts and if I was old enough to vote I would have done it in a second.
Question for those who say that he doesn't have the 'experience' to be President: What has 'experience' on Capital Hill gotten us for the last eight years? Step back and do your own research instead of regurgitating what CNN or Fox feeds you.
The world deserves a leader that amplifies the positive!! Mr. Obama please continue to bless the world with powerful messages. Your insightful and eloquent speeches will not only teach, but will also touch the hearts that have been afraid to trust. You are an inspiration!
If Germany could vote, they would vote for Obama. I'm sure of it. This speech brings tears to my eyes everytime I hear it. Just wonderful, this man needs to be president.
That was amazing. I'm so glad he took the time to address this issue. As a white woman I was very offended when people would look at the vote as a skin color- and then when I voiced mine? that I was simply a white woman that was trying to fit into the diverse crowd. It frustrates me deeply to see people that believe we simply disregard the nation and focus only on who is what, what the media says someone else does, instead of what will and what NEEDS to be done. That's why I voted for Obama.
I am so thankful that finally a presidential candidate respects the intelligence of the voter enough to address so many of our country's serious, complex issues so directly and so eloquently. I can't help but think that, if any of our founding fathers had heard that speech (and maybe they did), they would have cheered, as I did.
He is such an inspiration; that's one of the most courageous thing I have ever seen a politician do. He challenges all of us..the genuine of that man is just ..... (didn't find the word yet)I'm speechless
you have my strong support - here in the uk - you are a true american hero - brilliant speech. barack obama for president... may the force be with you .. obama is number 1 you are a legend ....cant wait till you win!
I was so impressed with Barack, once again. He was extremely eloquent. In fact, he was respectful and patient in explaining what shouldn't have needed explaining. I think he was hurt, but he didn't lash out. In a very gentle way, he reminded me of the old adage that a diplomat is someone who can tell you to go to hell and make you look forward to the trip. This is my president and I am looking forward to the trip.
My God this man is just so amazing. His views and his speeches blow me away. If this man gets in office it would do wonders for this country as a whole. This man makes you believe in him and his words.
An incredible speech! Did I agree 100% with EVERYTHING he said? No. Was it greatness with words and delivery? Yes. Is he the person we need to lead this country? Is he the 21st century "warrior" we need? Someone who will fight the wars we are currently fighting overseas, not the one in Iraq, but the wars we are fighting right here in America. I don't know. What I do know is his remarks and ideas should make you think critically. Gerald Appel
Regardless of the outcome of this election, that speech will be remembered as a defining speech in American race relations history, right along with MLK's "I have a dream" speech.
it is so refreshing to hear someone speak with such truth & eloquence about such a loaded & historically messy topic the fact that he happens to be running for president is an added bonus if we can get this kind of honesty into the white house & bring that to bear on the problems we face it will be a much better world as a person of color myself to hear some one speak like this: FINALLY, SOMEBODY SAYING IT AS IT HAS SO LONG NEEDED TO BE SAID... I'D VOTE FOR HIM EVERYDAY IF I COULD
If this speech doesn't convince America that this man is ready for the job I don't know what will. He didn't talk to us as a black man, a white man, or even a mixed man. He came as an American asking for a change in America. He is the real deal America we can't miss out on this or we are destined to go through the same problems of the past.
A lot has been said about his expirence, but expirence is so overrated. He is able to tackle the tough issues in a cool, calm way. He carries himself like true president! This speech is an instant American classic!
Amen, Senator Barack Obama God is truly using you. Because of all the people who have voted for you and you sir, I am truly proud to be an American and take part in making our country a "More Perfect Union." Rev. Henry Ward Maxwell, Sr.
So refreshing to hear a politician that speaks eloquently. Pay attention kids, history is being written, and you are a part of it. You're looking at a true politician, something we haven't seen for a very long time. Obama '08.
I'm a Singaporean and even i believe this man is truely sincere in wanting to change your country. And believe it or not, the outcome of your election has a great impact on not only Canada but more than u think, the rest of the world. I mean seriously. Please give him a chance:)
Barack Obama is transcending our sense of what it means to be a politician. He is, instead, a sincere and courageous human being and a true political leader. This speech will become a part of our history and, hopefully, will stimulate a long-overdue national dialogue. I have never felt prouder to be an American!
I am old enough to remember Kennedy. I remember how inspired I was as a child. No one in politics has inspired me since then...until now at 57.
"Hope is a thing with wings that lifts us high enough to see the truth." Bob Perks

Every time i see this man he raises my spirit...He can bring the change we all want...I can feel it.
This is the kind of experience and wisdom I'm willing to put my vote, my passion, and my energy behind.
i just gave my computer screen a standing ovation. this man will change our nation in a more positive way than we could ever imagine.
Magnificent speach Barack!! You have my vote.
Im only 13 years old. This speech is as good as any other speech Ive heard. This country needs somone like barack to bring us together like this
One of the most profound speeches I have ever witness, it is time for change!
This is incredible this is the first time I have watched a 30 minute youtube vid and it was worth it standing up to I have a dream

I've watched this many times, and it still moves me. America needs a change. Someone like Barack.
I don't get how Hilary could hear this speech and not just hang it up and vote for him herself!
That was just the most amazing speech he's given thus far. 'A More Perfect Union' -- 'I Have A Dream.'
Wow!
Phenominal speech!
yeah the contrast between the 3 or 4 soundbytes you hear on the news and the completed thoughts expressed is really breathtaking. 37:10 well spent.
His political courage is on par with his outstanding eloquence. He could have skirted the issue, but he dives right in and says things no other national politician has had the courage to say - and this in the middle of a political campaign. He is a miracle for this country.

He is brave, powerful, kind, and leads with kindness!
Yes he does :)
Tears are still in my eyes. He has the Americans ear and he didn't back down from the issues are his beliefs. Much respect!!
This video still blows me away.
This speech is the best speech on race that has been delivered, not surprisingly, by the most brilliant candidate we have had run for president in a very very long time. It is so timely and timeless.
What a great Speech by Obama..

Masterful, messianic, and professorial. A speech so powerful, I am rendered speechless.

Tremendous.

Brilliant, and more importantly, honest. In one sentence: "The racial misgivings are real, and arguably justified, but we have to choose whether to keep spinning it forever, or make an effort to end it."
I am truly in awe of this man's ability to lead. Let's pray that this kindred soul makes it to the office.
Blacks, whites, asians, jews, christians, muslims.. We are all people

That is the voice of unity, that has been missing for so long in politics.
I downloaded a copy of this video to my laptop, to keep and watch over and over.
Barack Obama is a great president just waiting to be elected!!!!!!
Not just a President or a leader... but a true hero. Telling the truth. Owning your mistakes. Allowing for differences. Being calm under pressure. Being true to yourself. How badly we need a hero. It only takes one.

I agree, our nation needs this man for President. He's like a breath of much needed fresh air.
Wow. I've been around for alot of elections. I have never heard a speech quite like this one. True leadership does still exist.

In future years, they will play this speech in school in Social Studies classes. Hopefully this will start a national conversation and reconciliation.
He is such an inspiration; that's one of the most courageous thing I have ever seen a politician do. He challenges all of us..the genuine of that man is just ..... (didn't find the word yet)I'm speechless
you have my strong support - here in the uk -
you are a true american hero
- brilliant speech.
barack obama for president...
may the force be with you ..
obama is number 1
you are a legend ....cant wait till you win!
If not in my lifetime, He can help the world as It Is for four years. If elected a second term... We need Obama
I have never been more proud to be an American after listening this speech.
Thank you Obama for reminding us who we are.
beautiful and truthful speech.
Although all the Reverend business may seem like it'll hurt Barack, think of how good he'll look if he pulls this off. This is huge for him.
One of the greatest speeches ever made. I pray that this country has the intelligence and courage to elect this man president.
Thank you for your support from overseas!
Regardless of the outcome of this election, that speech will be remembered as a defining speech in American race relations history, right along with MLK's "I have a dream" speech.
We have lived history today! May we live it in Nov.
it is so refreshing to hear someone speak with such truth & eloquence about such a loaded & historically messy topic
the fact that he happens to be running for president is an added bonus
if we can get this kind of honesty into the white house
& bring that to bear on the problems we face
it will be a much better world
as a person of color myself
to hear some one speak like this:
FINALLY, SOMEBODY SAYING IT
AS IT HAS SO LONG NEEDED TO BE SAID...
Respect. Empower. Include.
Our next president.
So refreshing to hear a politician that speaks eloquently.
Pay attention kids, history is being written, and you are a part of it. You're looking at a true politician, something we haven't seen for a very long time.
Obama '08.
Cape Verde Island loves you!!!
YES WE CAN....
Yes we can change the world. cus i believe we can.
NOw that was a damned good speech
I'm a Singaporean and even i believe this man is truely sincere in wanting to change your country.
And believe it or not, the outcome of your election has a great impact on not only Canada but more than u think, the rest of the world. I mean seriously.
Please give him a chance:)
Barack Obama is transcending our sense of what it means to be a politician. He is, instead, a sincere and courageous human being and a true political leader. This speech will become a part of our history and, hopefully, will stimulate a long-overdue national dialogue. I have never felt prouder to be an American!
My hope is that people will take time to listen to the entire speech.
Oh man...Obama is amazing. Everything he stands for is perfect. I can't wait for him to change the world forever.
