  • In today's video Jay talks about the hard to find Toyota Supra OEM Bare 2JZ-GTE VVT-i Cylinder Head.
10 Years ago you can easily get these bare cylinder head castings. Fast forward to today, These have been a highly wanted and needed item but have become very hard to get. Not only is it more expensive finding a used cylinder head but it is harder to find a brand new OEM one. These new heads is a great way to start your project as it allows you to have a cylinder head that has never been worked on, perfectly machined by Toyota the way they came from factory. We currently have them in stock and ready to ship
Not only is this a 2JZ-GTE casting. It is a VVT-i casting. It gives you variable cam timing on the intake camshaft. That means it is going to widen the powerband of the engine. Example. If you have a turbocharger that spools up around 5000rpm, You can count on it coming on 700-800rpm earlier making it more enjoyable to drive. This same cylinder head casting Jay used to go 331mph at Bonneville salt flats with Brad Bosworth's "Valley Fever" streamliner. • FAST 2JZ Valley Fever ...

I think every single car enthusiast should have a spare engine tucked away. Already Rebuilt preferably. You never know what can happen, and it’s always great knowing you have something to drop in.

Jay I hear that.... DART is in the process of building better short blocks for the 2jz and also heads. If course this will be a Win win for the markets because everyone loves this platform. 🔥🔥🔥🔥

As others have commented. These are still available from Toyotya new in both VVTI and Non, but only the US spec heads with EGR ports. The best thing people can do is go out and buy one as Toyota work on part sales demand not vehicle age. If they are still selling toyota will still produce and stock.

700 or 800 rpms earlier is a huge difference. Especially on a larger turbocharged car.

Used NA non-VVTI longblocks are getting hard to find, as well. I’ve been shopping for short blocks to replace my 1JZ-GTE TT bottom end (I’m going 1.5JZ) and there aren’t many to choose from they’re all expensive now. I might end up with a VVTI block and replace the rods and pistons.

Or Toyotas, but yes. Ideally you want a GTE block of any age but an early Non-VVTI block has just as strong internals and a bit more compression. The VVTI blocks have weak rods and really aren’t suitable for boost above wastegate pressure. If you change out the rods, you might as well do the pistons and bring the compression back down.

For all this talk of "Yamaha heads" the JZ heads were always the weak part on these engines. Not weak as in fragile. Weak as in the heads flow badly when compared to it's i6 rivals like the RB26, or even naturally aspirated BMW heads from the 90's. No amount of porting or headwork will solve that. The solution have always been to just throw more boost at the motor.
