    congrats and thanks to the person who was brave enough to send in their voice recording! I was feeling nervous just listening to it being critiqued, and it wasn't even my own voice. And thanks to Fumi for offering the feedback.

      I won't criticize how you pronounce Japanese. I don't think other teachers do. We just give you advice. So, don't worry too much. Just, talk to Japanese people! And I agree that people who sent the recordings are very brave! Their Japanese will absolutely improve☺️

    Very good video, and very helpful for us to hear the suggestions for improving, even if it is someone else's recording. 😄 It also gives us a chance to see if we can hear the "errors" before you point them out.
    And thank you to Steven for sending in a recording! I wanted to record something too, but wasn't able to this time :) Some time in the future I will!

    Thank you for your video.
    Sorry for being out of topic, I have been self-learning Japanese for a long time but there is this thing that always confuses me,
    the usage of particles Ha, Wo, Ga, Ka, etc it's hard to grasp how and when to use them.
    Also, this thing has been haunted me for quite some times
    why it is written as Ha (は) but read as "Wa"?

    • @SpeakJapaneseNaturally
      @SpeakJapaneseNaturally  2 роки тому +6

      Particles are difficult..., I think after a while, after you've read or listened to a lot of Japanese, you'll get to used to them.
      And as for は, there have been sound changes. はひふへほ were used be pronounced as pa, pi, pu, pe, po, then they became fa, fi,fu,fe, fo, then at the beginning of a word, the sounds became ha, hi, hu,he,ho, and other than the beginning of a word came to be pronounced as wa, wi, u, we, wo. And in 1946, a rule were made to match the sound and writing, and はひふへほ other than the beginning of a word are now written as わ, い, う, え,お. But they didn't change the particles は、へ、を to match the sound, わ、え、お. So, we still write these particles as they are, but the sounds are actually different. In short, there were sound changes, but the writing still remains.

      Such a good answer, it's a shame it's hidden in a reply! Thanks for explaining :D

    I like your gentle teaching style, Fumi-sensei. But are you sure that ネット (as a stand-alone word) is heiban? I thought it was atamadaka and only sounds like heiban when combined with フリックス to form "Netflix".

    • @SpeakJapaneseNaturally
      @SpeakJapaneseNaturally  2 роки тому

      Actually, when you say ネット in atamadaka, it means “net” as in “put up a tennis net”. ネット as an abbreviation of インターネット is heiban.

      Hi, thank you for the comment!
      I didn’t get what you can’t write… you mean kanji like these, 朝, 漢, 爽, etc?🤔

    I think I'm realizing that Japanese is not really a "level" language. I has the same kind of pitch increases and decreases as other languages, although maybe not as dramatic..

    • @SpeakJapaneseNaturally
      @SpeakJapaneseNaturally  2 роки тому

      I'm not sure if I got what you mean, but I feel that the Japanese pitch accent can't be shown with the pitch accent marker that I'm using now...

    • @Jikz75
      @Jikz75 Рік тому

      @@SpeakJapaneseNaturally I think he means the volume doesn't change in japanese, only the pitch. I noticed the student in the video stresses some words which sounds unatural, because in Japanese there's no variation in volume and duration of moras only variation in pitch.

      No problem ☺️
      Here's how to write hiragana.
      ua-cam.com/video/6OhhE8QSTss/v-deo.html
      The explanation might be quick, but I provided a link to a PDF for practicing writing hiragana in the description box of the video too. You'll know how to write because stroke orders are written too.
