    Question, so when the batteries drops in voltage to the set point you have set. your saying it automatically switches to main or generator mode to recharge the batteries if you had one or the other to use, So in other words if I plug in my generator to the ac input on the inverter it will automatically switch the pv off and generator us on?

    • @SolarBearDIY
      @SolarBearDIY  4 місяці тому

      The short answer is yes, but it wont disconnect the panels. This unit is capable of charging your batteries using both panels and the AC to DC charger that is built into the charger. There is actually another setting that you can use to set the rate of charge while it is doing this. In order to turn the generator on, it relies on the dry contact, andthe setting that accompany that. The dry contacts are a low voltage relay that is capable of sending a signal to another relay that works with an Automatic Transfer Switch that can power the generator on and off. That is the condensed explaination.
      Soon, I will have a video out that describes how to set up the AIO controller using mains, and then further into the fiture I will have another video using a generator.
      Thanks for checking in!!!!

      @@SolarBearDIY so what is the indicator that let's you know that the voltage is to low and its OK to fire up the generator. And Is this unit totally capable of running a window unit ac, TV and refrigerator? I'min the process of setting up this same unit with 1000watts of solar but I'll need to run a window ac unit, refrigerator, TV and normal stuff like that in my off grid cabin. Thats why I was wondering if you can run a generator through the inverter to run stuff in an off grid setup.

    • @SolarBearDIY
      @SolarBearDIY  4 місяці тому

      @@fjayw yes, I run a 10,000 BTU window mount aircon, and even my air compressor or skill saw at the same time with no problems. If you are starting the generator yourself, there are setting that allow you to run but the generator and the panels at the same time. There is a maximum AC bypass current load of 40 amps.
      So in the settings you can set the voltage parameter of the battery so that when it drops to a certain voltage, it bypasses the inverter and uses the mains power in fire an uninterrupted power supply (UPS).

      Hey sorry to bug you again,
      so I'm setting up off grid like you were during this video using the same inverter, 3000w eco worthy 24v. My question is, there is a grounding screw on the bottom of the inverter, My breaker panel is ground with a grounding rod 8ft in the ground. The AC out only has the Line and the Nuetral connections. What is the grounding screw for and do in need it for my setup? If I need to use it do I run a ground wire from the ground screw to the grounding rail in my panel box or do I ground it to something else? I am reading the book but I'm stumped on the ground screw. Thanks@@SolarBearDIY

    • @SolarBearDIY
      @SolarBearDIY  4 місяці тому +1

      @@fjayw so, on this controller the AC is grounded directly to the chassis of the controller/inverter. It is ok to run a wire from this ground to your ground busbar that is connected to your earth ground. I actually recommend that, and that way all grounds will have the same reference.
      Some folks will argue that AC and DC should have separate grounds. Some folks run it like myself with one common ground that is connected to an earth ground.
      I hope that makes sense.

    Hey there again, here's my current situation, I'm getting a max charge of 26.8v from the three 250w panels in series. When I watch a movie and run the ceiling fan and small frig, the voltage reaches 25.0v or maybe a bit lower at bed time, then I run a regular fan over night my inverter will ring the alarm in the wee hours of the morning due to low voltage, thoughts on that? so with that said im going to try the 2s2p on my four 250w panels to see if i get a better responce. My question is now and i may have asked you this already but i want to run a generator sometimes to top off my batteries before i go to bed. So even if the inverter has not reached the #4 setpoint and i start the generator manually will it just automatically switch to that power source to top off the batteries? Or do i need to change #1 or #6 settings on the inverter for that to happen? I have #1 set on sbu and #6 set on oso.

I am astounded that these manuals don't give more detail on the functional operation (when they bulk charge, when they float and when they boost etc) Your video was a huge help validating my decisions of max charge voltage, min battery voltage and so on but still lots of questions to resolve. This is really common in RV's and generators. Mike Sokol has made a couple of videos on how to bond them together (or unbond them as the case may be). Going to one fuse in your combiner box, you would want another string with the same amount of panels in the same configuration going to your combiner box. Your combiner box at that point would connect them in parallel and your amperage would increase, and not your voltage.
