As a psychologist from germany i found knowledge from islamic golden era psychologists to be completely left out. 99% of german psychologists have an ethnocentrically skewed view on psychology without even knowing. Wheenever i had a lecture of in my studies. It always started with a historical introduction, which left our 1000 years between ancient greek times and renaissance. You know Frankfurt has two million Arabic manuscripts gifted by the Ottoman ruler who was friends with Wielhelm (they are kept in superb shape) PhD students and some universities in Germany attest to the facts discussed by both of those jewels! But suddenly you are in class and you hear from a professor 🙄 translated from Greek to Latin and you lose consciousness for 10 seconds becasue of the time lapse of 1000 years and actually failing to mention some Greek to Arabic then more Arabic and more Arabic scholarly work that got translated to Latin! I can't exclude the fact that it might be state policy of some sort 🙄
Why is it an Islamic golden era? Would one call European renaissance "Christian" golden era only because it happened to be in a predominantly Christian society?
@@VonKrolok-mf3uc It is very interesting to note that "Golden Era" is a term coined by European Orientalists, it is not a native Islamic term. So we can choose to use it or not but being aware of it not being indigenous is important.

The advanced psychology in the past " golden age of Islam " and the implementation on the land and the society and buildings has reached the level of normalization to be in a good happy society. I'm from algeria. We have "hamamat" means public showers with sona cube in the center to lay back and heat your skin . Then the worker in that public shower will come to rub the dead skin of your body. This is the hot room inside then the cold room as toilets and private space then the hall way between the two rooms leading to a public beds to rest and the worker come to cover you and bring you orange 🍊 or orange juice. We used to go there once a week. Very good experience "Detoxification of body stress and mental ". . 2nd is the greenery and peace : mental hospital is like a garden and trees everywhere. Environmental protection. Even the crazy people feel calm and relaxed. I used to go there when I was a little because there is a primary school for children near it. I studied there. . 3 stricter ruling of the country. And good manner and Islamic values that protect the body health and the mental health. And the soul. They all synchronized together. But 2024 : people nowadays are numb with social media and p●rnography and fake news and political gangsters and sugar.
Salaam. Do you have hammamat that are in use today? How does one visit Algeria without an invitation, seems like a difficult country to visit in terms of visa etc
@siemprestruggle9272 peace be opon you too .where are you from ? We have active hamamat . Search in youtube: حمام الوان البليدة copie this. Hamam el Wan. They say it's the best 👌 I haven't been there. I've been to hamam el mokhbat there is no water stuff only a shower . I don't know about visa and stuff but maybe they made it complicated because of the conflict between Morocco and algeria and the zionists... 😆
@siemprestruggle9272 I don't know about visa, but there is hamamat active. I recommend hamam elwan blida. 👌 Where are you from if you don't mind me asking !?
We should not be quick to claim everything as ours. The first religious sects to dwell into the field of psychology were the Hindus/Buddhists (5th century BC) and Hellenists (3rd century BC). However, the Hellenistic contributions were mostly lost in the 4th century CE (destruction of the university of Alexandria), and the Indic contributions were lost in the 12th Century CE (destruction of Nalanda and Vikramshila universities).

Dr Bocca has really Amazing knowledge and what she says is very interesting. Westerns think knowledge only in their hand and nobody knows anything. Muslim world just wake up and get to know your roots and walues.
Paul, your videos are marvelous, and very enlightening. Thank you for your work ,may God reward you best. I have a question; Is the Christian concept about the life of the afterlife is to live like angels? If this is the case, this isn't very encouraging. Because we as humans want to live as we are , humans. Whereas Islamic concept of the the life of the Hereafter is the real true life as we are now, but in paradise. Would you please, if possible to clarify this point , and how hard or discouraging this point would be in Christianity to make someone to give up the lure of life.
Excellent episode. thank you. I would like to share a perspective that Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him summarized probably most of Psychology in one Duaa / Supplication: O Allah! I seek refuge with You from worry and grief, from incapacity and laziness, from cowardice and miserliness, from being heavily in debt and from being overpowered by (other) men. Reference: Al-Bukhari 7/158.
Ibn Sina actually conducted a scientific experiment on behaviour. While introducing medical students to the biopsychosocial model, i always begin with ibn sina's two lanb experiment
Alhamdulillah and Jazakallahu khairan. The sister mentioned of waqf providing services for people. Do you have a discussion on how islam works from a govenment perspective including waqf and if you don't,please consider making a video on it.
The old Maristan in my city Meknes in Morocco was established in 14th century and it's located indeed in the heart of the old Medina right in front of the great mosque. But Maristan Sidi Faraj in Fez is way more older, it was established in the 13th century. But i think the oldest was established in Damascus Syria.
Zakat in my own opinion doesnt mean giving your money to other institutions for them to distribute. These institutions are very important and have their place. But your niat to distribute your own zakat for the better good of all expecially the mental health of all mankind will in my opinion a great barakah for you. May Allah SWT guide us all to the only path.
I think we should have combined psychology in islam, what Al Quran verses and sunnah quoted too. I don't know whether other countries combined it or not, but in the past, my husband had studied in psychology and motivation education said the course that he took doesn't included islamic study in it. They separated it , logic and human behaviours to be the main study without including soul or spirituality in it. Maybe have, but just too little bit. Separate story. My friend went to the counselor to talk about his problems but yet it cant solve the problems and the recommended from them also wrong cannot be used. Then, he goes to Al Quran and sunnah, listens to islamic talk and prays and cries to say his problems to Allah and then, make a dua. It is more effective and long term heart healing than crying to you don't know who, for example to the counselors. Spiritual also important to the mental health. He can run away from grief, depression, anxiety for a long period which can make it worse and sick. If our spirituality is strong, InsyaAllah the sickness or the problems will programme or mindset to ourselves as a small matters. As long as we people help each other, our soul will produce positive vibes and bring happiness to each other. InsyaAllah Wallahualam
More book recommendations similar to the one Paul mentioned: 'The Hidden Debt to Islamic Civilisation' and 'The Golden Age and Decline of Islamic Civilisation', both by the historian Dr. S.E. Al-DJazairi.
This verse in the Quran contains deep psychological insights. " Unquestionably, [for] the allies of Allah there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve " Quran 10 : 62
the phrase 'islamic psychology' is a misnomer - there is no such thing as islamic trauma or islamic depression or islamic anxiety.... it mostly refers to the expansive source materials available from scholars and thinkers from a long tradition of islam's dominance in the world f medicine..... and refers to the discipline of psychology as a study of human behaviour -taking the mental and physical aspects of what it means to be human - together... it is both interesting and fascinating. if you throw theology and philosophy into the mix - you have a much better understanding of human behaviour and it becomes easier to approach the substance of suffering - healing becomes easier ...

This lady has a very bright future. What a mind.

We should not be quick to claim everything as ours. The first religious sects to dwell into the field of psychology were the Hindus/Buddhists (5th century BC) and Hellenists (3rd century BC). However, the Hellenistic contributions were mostly lost in the 4th century CE (destruction of the university of Alexandria), and the Indic contributions were lost in the 12th Century CE (destruction of Nalanda and Vikramshila universities).
thanks for sharing, great work

DR rania awad clinical psychologist based in USA has given insight into psychological advancements in muslim world in mediaeval times n how psychiatric illness was defined first by muslims during islamic golden age ,plz invite her to your show alongwith sister Francesca
As an Egyptian,I think that Italian people are the closest European people to Egyptians in terms of humor , sociability ,social intelligence and that they place significant value on family and community .for the previous reasons and more other reasons I'm interested in watching all interviews with Dr.Francesca Al-daqre on blogging theology.
Dr Bocca has really Amazing knowledge and what she says is very interesting. Westerns think knowledge only in their hand and nobody knows anything. Muslim world just wake up and get to know your roots and walues.
Very interesting interview Weldon wisdom attain thanksvm WA Bilahi Tawfiiq.
really enjoyed listening to this woman
just wow.❤😮
Excellent!
Paul, your videos are marvelous, and very enlightening. Thank you for your work ,may God reward you best.
I have a question;
Is the Christian concept about the life of the afterlife is to live like angels?

Love it
What an amazing lady
Thank you
Dr Jordan Peterson can be recommended in english for religion and psychology crossover. Please invite him on to delve into this topic further
InsyaAllah
Wallahualam
Really it's great Best wishes for both of you
For Arabic speakers I really recommend Dr. Abdurahman Dakir on psychology from islamic perspective
Excellent discussion
More book recommendations similar to the one Paul mentioned: 'The Hidden Debt to Islamic Civilisation' and 'The Golden Age and Decline of Islamic Civilisation', both by the historian Dr. S.E. Al-DJazairi.
Thanks!
This verse in the Quran contains deep psychological insights. " Unquestionably, [for] the allies of Allah there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve " Quran 10 : 62
Thanks very good mashaa Allah
Assalamo Alaykum.. wish to have an Islamic psychologist here in the Philippines...
the phrase 'islamic psychology' is a misnomer - there is no such thing as islamic trauma or islamic depression or islamic anxiety.... it mostly refers to the expansive source materials available from scholars and thinkers from a long tradition of islam's dominance in the world f medicine..... and refers to the discipline of psychology as a study of human behaviour -taking the mental and physical aspects of what it means to be human - together... it is both interesting and fascinating. if you throw theology and philosophy into the mix - you have a much better understanding of human behaviour and it becomes easier to approach the substance of suffering - healing becomes easier ...
