Why Do Some People Hate Meta Quest Standalone VR??

- Quest headsets are some of the most popular headsets created for VR, but not everybody is a fan of them. Some people prefer the PCVR side of things and while that is possible with a Quest headset, they still require Meta accounts. Virtual Reality is full of strange takes, but there is a good discussion to be had between PCVR and Standalone VR.

Standalone probably is the future as are ARM chips for many applications, especially when you consider they can also be used for PC VR too.
I think so too! Especially with Meta's OS annoucement which is bound to lead towards new standalones being made
Hopefully not, standalone has done enough damage to VR and it kind of never gets better.
Since mobile vr gaming got into play everything slowed down and got worse.
I really had trust in VR back in the days with the CV1 and Oculus S headset, but since then I all got so bad.
I’d first like to say I am incredibly proud and happy someone is making a video about such subject. Enough about the news and updates. We need something more. So much appreciated.
Here are some of my thoughts, although I didn’t give the video my 100% attention as I was writing this.
I believe mobile chipsets just haven’t been optimized for game use. At least not snapdragon, I mean look at what the Extrme ROG Ally portable is doing.
Meta should just make or support a PCVR Oculus game, at least make a game for that slice of consumers, if ya don’t wanna make the hardware. (And update the darn Oculus PC App already!!)
Every platform has their own account System, people, they need to get over it.
Can play Xbox games via the Xbox app, although you need a subscription, and decent WiFi.
PCVR isn’t about the modern headsets anymore, it’s about Devs not supporting it with their games. Quest 2 and 3 have airlink, steamlink and even link cables.
Few other points I could of made but ran past as I was writing this comment.
Some really good points made here! You're probably right the snapdragon could probably be better optimised and Meta do need to start supporting PCVR games more, I mean Valve did it with Half Life Alyx, and that did wonders!
@@itsnotcami absolutely, after trying the AVP, I think we could benefit from eye tracking in the near future.
I absolutely despise Facebook, and I'm not a fan of mobile VR games, but it's idiotic to be complaining about the Meta account requirement.
1. You already required an Oculus account before, replacing it with a Meta brand account changes NOTHING.
2. In order to access any online content, or play multiplayer, an account is INEVITABLE. There's no real way around it. It's a requirement like ever single online service in existence.
3. "This would never happen on PC VR headsets". This just isn't true at all?? You require a Steam account to use Steam VR.
Facebook ain't exactly my thing, but that's what I've heard PCVR users complain about. I'm not exactly arsed about it in all honesty
We need to get rid of Meta in some kind of way.
Even if I had the money to get a pcvr I probably still get a standalone because I’m more used to it, cheaper so I could buy more games, and it looks like an unnecessary amount of effort to set up sensors in a room if the headset is just replaced by a better one by the next year or two
but its not a choice of one or other you get both in the quest
Not sure that many PCVR videos, streamed or uploaded to youtube, quote "played on Quest 3" without saying connected to PC helps the stand alone case. Leaves consumers feeling duped at what quality and games can actually played.
It really does! Not exactly fair when the headset costs about £500 as well.
It's very simple.
Meta falsely advertised GTASAVR numerous times prior to/since the release of the Quest 2.
Meta also lowered the age because they realized adults weren't liking the things being made. (For good reason, 95% were trash VR "roller coaster" or "3d video experiences" and some you even had to pay way too much for.)
Let's not forget about the companies that got absolutely demolished from the corporate Meta black hole. (RIP Oculus and soon to be Digital Lode and CombatWaffle Studios.)
Here is a quote from the Digital Lode Founder. "We would love to ship Espire 2 on Steam and are still trying to make it happen. We quoted the PC port for Espire 2 as a multi-month project requiring 9 people and unfortunately couldn't secure funding to make the port happen." So basically Meta said, "No, you don't get funding because we know PCVR would destroy standalone."
Horizon World mods literally have the ability to brick your headset, if you don't believe me, go do one thing they deem slightly annoying and they will lock you out of your headset entirely. I couldn't use my headset for 2 weeks because I accidently burped with my mic on around a Horizon World mod/admin.
Did everyone just forget that absolutely horrendous Super Bowl Meta commercial?
Both are cool. I love the mobility of standalone but i don't plan on moving from a chair or playing that many games. For me, graphic design and animation is the priority. Everything else is secondary. So PCVR is better for me. I'm waiting to see what Valve does too. But, both have value. Depends what you're doing with it.
Yep I agree, standalone can be a lot more convenient while PCVR can boast a lot of power
The problem isn't actually standalone VR. The problem is that Facebook/Meta decided to go down the standalone route and then _intentionally bombed PCVR_ since it would then become a threat to establishing their monopoly. Meta used buy or bury anticompetitive tactics to eat the foundation out from under PCVR, which slowed down PCVR's progress for years.
Standalone VR in itself isn't a threat to PCVR. Just like smartphones exist along side PCs. This is the same thing all over again, particularly since Quests literally use smartphone-based chipsets. Standalone VR and PCVR will eventually live alongside each other and many people will own both. Standalone is mobile while PC is more powerful. They have different (but overlapping) use cases and will never fully replace each other.
It's because of the bad lenses and resolution. The OLED is great.
And then Sony need to break those way to high prices, that's on of the worst things about Sony amd all the other consoles
buy a valve index or a £199 quest 2?
There's more value to be had from a Quest 2 in my opinion, if you want PCVR then a Link Cable will do the trick!
That's kinda where I'm at. I think I'm going to get the Pimax Light, when it comes out. In my case, I'll spend more, if it's that much better and I have more time with it. And I'd rather it do a couple of things great than doing a whole lot of things OK. So, I guess it depends on use case.
You are not required to have a Facebook account or link it for like 3 years now bruh
Nah, you're still required to have a Meta account though. Same stuff, different basket
ok, but no Facebook account.
@@DarrenJames00 Mr. Zuckerberg we still know it's Facebook.
No the owner of meta has a beard can’t be Zuck
I play only Steam VR games almost and I’ve noticed peak VR ended way back, let me know some non flat to vr games To check out from before Quest ruined em
People hate meta? I only continue to run into ppl who hate on psvr2
The psvr2 has barely any games tbf
*barely any AAA games
@@itsnotcamifor its first year it has tons of games. Just not first party AAAs ppl keep crying about
@@bxile730 Yeah my mistake, that's what I meant. It could do with a game on par with Half Life Alyx or along them lines tbh
@@itsnotcami i havent played half life alyx yet so i cant compare, but gt7, re4 and res 8 snd horizon call of the mountain are amazing titles imo. Im not even a racing gamer but for gt7 i bought a logitech g29 with pedals and its so immersive. But yeah, i hear so much praise for half life alyx and i cant wait to play it. Psvr2 does gave lots of games tho. Im currently playing madison vr and its probably the most terrifying horror game ive ever played
