Toyota Reliability??? My Brand New Toyota Tacoma Is Not What I Expected.

- This 2021 Toyota Tacoma has a litany of strange electrical issues. After posting about some on my social media many of you wanted a video detailing these problems. The first half of this video is problems that I brought up to the Toyota dealer but the second half is just my opinion on the truck so far. After a lot of research I have discovered that ALL of the issues I bring up are common Toyota Tacoma problems so I have no reason to believe this truck is a lemon. For those of you watching that are Toyota fans I hope this video doesn't rub you the wrong way. I still enjoy the truck and look forward to building it into a great trail rig!

No criticism, man, just praise. You're a very skilled communicator. Keep up the great work.
I own a 21 off-road and super appreciate this video. Love that you put it through what Toyota advertises it as and find all these flaws before/as I do. Thanks for all the info, looking forward to more vids.
Im a mechanic and i can tell you all vehicles are junk, the more technology the more problems.
Its a money racket. Make it cheap, market it as high end.
So true. I was a gm tech I worked on Ford fleet trucks I was a vw tech and honestly the German cars seemed the least amount of cheap feeling. I’m now a diesel tech and they are no different especially when u slap emissions stuff on them
Yeah buddy! Let's go back to carbs, analog auto trans, cassette (or 8-track!) AM/FM stereos, paper maps and all the rest of "it was so much better back then."
And we can go back to 6 mpg out of a 350 cu in with a whopping 180hp, tons of emissions, winding cassettes on our ball point pens which we will have plenty of time to do because we are friggen lost because the paper map got torn in half from all the incorrect folding and the half we need flew out the window 3 days ago.
I'm not even trying to allude to all tech being great (every manufacturer has their highs and lows) but in general, things today are much better than in the dark ages.
And cars back in the 70's and 80's were actually much less reliable than today.
Yeah, TFL has tested every modern 4x4 and almost all of them have had some sort of problems with electrical.
@@Steve_MFr don't need to strip all electronics, but everything just needs a holley dominator style setup and that's it imo
"Modern" cars have too much shit going on. We have multiplied the points of failure by a ton for really questionable benefits.
Sadly the majority of ppl who buy new cars want all these features, and they dont fix cars themselves so they dont care about ease of maintenance
Fucking touch screens! What was wrong about simple toggle switches and volume knobs?

Great detailed overview of the issues. There's no excuse for those problems.
Toyota doesn't care, they'll sell every Tacoma they build regardless of any issues.
I agree! This is horrible! We pay more, get less, expect to get reliability and then don't get that either!!! Luckily my Tacoma doesn't have any of these problems, except maybe the speakers.
Fuck it get a Bronco.
@@rodney7780 Ford is not exactly known to put out a reliable 1st gen anything. Ford gets their customers to do the beta testing....
I've seen worse from Gladiators... cooking clutches, head issues and multiple electrical issues as well. Most of these issues were caused due to changing the parts that are not compatible with the safety features and could have been avoided by research. 4Lo issue understandable but I have not personally experienced it since I have a manual.
Some people are offended by honesty. Just keep it real, Nate. You're doing a great job with these videos!

@@shermellow thanks for proving my point
@@shermellow I love my Tacoma and I would consider myself even a fanboy, but you’re out of line for demeaning another human being. It’s too much. Chill.
Putting it in 4x4 - from my experience with my Tacoma - it's all about ensuring that there is no 'pre-load' or 'tension' or 'bind' in the driveline (shafts, axles, diff, etc) before you select 4high/low. That means wheels straight and settled out in neutral the best you can. I find the times I struggle is when there is a load on the driveline and it will struggle 'engaging.'
It's nothing to do with leveling, IMO.
Plus - and this has been true for any Toyota with electronic 4x4 actuation - "don't use it, you lose it," meaning if you go long intervals without turning that 4x4 knob, you'll find when you do need it, your actuator is cooked/gummed up and it won't activate. I turn mine on to 4high while rolling at least once per week (just cause), and I've never had problems.
With your sensor issues - there is a recall on them and they need to be replaced or repaired - sounds like the rain cooked yours, so a new one under warranty is prob the way to go.
So didn't you say it had to be leveled out? No load,no twist, no bind? Pretty much sound like it needs to be level
@@terryeverly5617 No load means "neutral". You can have the trucks E-brake on when on an incline. Much like operating during a Porn shoot, its easier to perform when you are not working under pressure.
@@terryeverly5617 No I've engaged it upwards of 20degrees of incline/decline. The key is the come to a stop, put it in neutral, then slowly release and reapply the brake as the truck just starts to roll. I'm also currently using Royal Purples 75-90 instead of the OEM 75-85w which has made it a lot easier to engage.

This is exactly why I think 90s-00s was the golden era for 4x4s. Still simple enough to work on but they're still modern
I’m the original owner of a ‘97 Tacoma. I bought one with manual EVERYTHING because I wanted 30yrs of reliability. So far, so good.

People really need to calm down with their brand loyalty. Every vehicle and every brand is fallible. When you choose a vehicle, you choose which issues affect you the least, or simply which one you like the most. That's great, but at least be honest with yourself. Great video Nate, very refreshing to see someone who has such a diverse taste in vehicles and is honest about all of them. Love it!
Great honest review. Nobody does this stuff on you tube and it's refreshing to see how this specific truck is acting up. Modern vehicles are a pain no matter who makes them.
The hunting for gears is a real issue. An OVTune fixes that! Just had mine done yesterday and it is wayyyy better
I got OVTune last year and it’s night and day.
My 2018 was low on transmission fluid. After the dealership topped it off, it hasn’t hunted for Gears.
My truck only hunts for gear when I push the clutch in and grab the knob. Lol but seriously, has anyone on here done the tune on a manual 3rd gen? I'd love to hear their thoughts.
J M “what’s a manual transmission?” -Gen Z
@Will Jackson That's a good point but the warranty isn't that great anyway. Might be something to think about after the warranty.
Appreciate the honest review. It's true that electronics are a downfall of these trucks, mine included. I tried the radio fader yesterday.... thanks for making me aware of THAT issue, eh! 😕 Keep up the AWESOME content! 👍👍
Appreciate your honesty. My 2017 has been rock solid, gear hunt is annoying.
I had a F150 with electrical gremlins, in my experience those never go away
Such good genuine feedback. Even toyota fanboys like myself can’t deny what you’re saying. These trucks are TERRIBLY expensive and not that great to live with / wheel hard. I absolutely adore my 2008 and I wheel it hard & have heavily modified it. My truck has basically no electronic fancy stuff in it whatsoever. No headaches
Exact same story with my 08 as well. Literally got it brand new and I have rode it hard no issues other than an alternator.
Same here. 2012 with tons of mileage on it. Works well, all the time: hauling, pulling, wheeling or even street driving. I checked those 3rd Gen when they came out and decided to keep my old and trusted truck. Best decision ever! The 400w "thing" was already there on the 2nd gen, as well as the 4wd control modes, but those are easy to bypass.
And you have a legit Oem limited slip diff
I have a 2010 and I know that the 2nd gens are built better. I almost traded a few years ago and im glad i didnt. The 4.0 v6 and the auto trans in the 2nd gens is superior. I actually read that the automatic in the 2nd gens was originally designed for the land cruiser, and is way overbuilt for the tacoma.
@@janetairlines1351 how come my 2017 tows better has a quieter cabin and is faster than a 2nd gen
Dude! So I have a 2019 Trd almost all the same issues! You’re not wrong! I literally hate these little issues. Love the truck, but I didn’t pay for a new rig to have dumb issues.
You are a true off-roader. I don’t go off-road and bought my truck because I just love the truck. I hope you get all your problems fixed. I know I would be pretty disappointed if I was having all that you are. Great video.
Excellent review -- and REALLY GOOD to know about the issues you are having with your Tacoma.
This video make me appreciate my 90s/2000s junk much more.
Right? Another reminder never to sell my 98 cherokee. I don't even have cruise or abs. Less shit to fail
Loving my 80 series more n more everyday.
My dad had a 2005 Tacoma, WORST seating position and visibility ever. Especially for Off-Road driving.
Its not junk man Lol
It could be a one off. Sometimes one car just has all kinds of issues, but then again I own a 2000 Tacoma, bought it new. In 20 years I've hand 3 things break down on it. An air sensor, that I easily replaced. A light behind the AC dash. And the left clicker box. That's it. And I only had one flat in twenty years. I think I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum with an excessive level of "perfection".
T100 FTW
Just found this channel and I'm glad I did! Im a first time Tacoma owner since 2017 and I love my 3rd Gen. Besides the transmission running weird, I luckily haven't had any of the issues you have. I do appreciate your honesty in this video and hope to steal a few ideas and tips from you in your future videos.
Yup, that is the problem with Toyota. Mechanically Toyota is in top of the game. Extremely reliable. Electrical not so much.
My wife's Corolla has many electrical issues. Dome light doesn't work at all, clock is out and one tail light just keeps blowing out randomly.
My Tacoma has a lot of stereo issues, 4WD issues just like you it it hard getting into 4lo, interior lights have a mind of its own, and my turn signals sometimes works. I've taken the Tacoma at least 5 times and all this keeps coming back.
90’s and early 2000 Toyota trucks are the golden years of Toyota. So much money spent on development.
My 96 4Runner that I bought in VA had all original parts. Shocks, springs, all the engine parts, even the original rusted front and rear bumpers. Drove it cross country with no issues.
Good luck and hope you get through all the issues with the Tacoma. Great informative video as usual.
The 90's and 2000's were probably the best years for all makes. Sure the newer stuff has more power and funky gadgets, and more safety systems, but all that is an electrical disaster waiting to happen. I like the older vehicles for a simpler electrical system, where any system had it's own module and switches/sensors, most newer stuff has everything integrated into a body control module so when there is a failure it causes widespread problems.
If you hold down the cruise control button for 2-3 seconds, you can enable regular cruise control. Great for when you’re having sensor issues.
Good to know 👍👍

You are a hero.
I’m shocked by the amount of people that don’t know this. Apparently the owners manual is just there to take up room in the glove box

Yea mine has that issue, I'll get a new one soon
@Dale Macarena haha you should see my dash and trim pieces. I color matched every grey piece of plastic in the cabin.
Thank you for the great video Nate. I am a life long Toyota loyalist. I've owner over 25 Toyota 4x4's over the years and I love them all. My current daily driver is a lightly modified 2016 Taco with 100k miles on it. It's been to Baja, the dunes, snow, and mud. As much as it saddens me, I agree with all of your criticisms. The new trucks are built soft with too many electronis! Love your channel, please keep up the great work!
I was going to buy a Tacoma but will now really outfit my 85 K5 mint Blazer, to many issues for me and my K5 is totally reliable and simple. The most honest review on UA-cam.
Thanks for sharing, and your honesty! I'm glad none of the problems are mechanical, and even more so that none affect my 2006 TRD Sport 6spd manual no traction aid Tacoma as a short guy who rewired the inverter to fulltime 400W.
The more bells and whistles .... The more points of potential failures
And the more it feels lifeless to drive
@@bored2323 the Tacoma’s and most of Toyota’s current lineup is straight lifeless to drive as is.
Reliability of any vehicle brand will never be problem free, with those automatic push buttons!!!
With Toyota vehicles you have 2 potential failures activating your 4x4
1. The Dial which is electronic 4x4 selector + electronic transfer case actuator.
2. Front axle disconnect actuator.
100% guarantee, if you enjoy crossing rivers with axle deep water - most likely your front axle disconnect will develop issues. I’m sure some will say they never had any failures, but water & electronics don’t mix!
Manual 4x4 shifter & manual locking front hubs, =100% more reliable!!
Manufacturers should not be building these crappy electronic push buttons -
we want reliability & simplicity!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@jmendoza1760 very few want manual anything anymore. The research shows that fancy push buttons and cardboard seats is what sells
@@eljefe4473
Your 100% correct!!
So disappointing to see modern vehicles, ( severely super expensive) with such unreliable crappy modern engineering......
With your cruise control, it sounds like you're using the radar cruise. You can switch it to basic cruise by pushing in and holding the power button until it switches over. Or you may need to push and hold on the stalk until it switches over. Depends on system.
It will be out lined in his owners manual on the procedure.
This needs to be up voted so much. How many ppl complain about this but dont know how to simply bypass it is staggering. If you dont use stock parts for electronics you can almost 100% expect problems. Even if you lift it, that will change the angle the of the radar tripping it up ect... If you dont leave it stock. Expect electrical/tech issues.
Exactly!
@@BC-oh5gw I wish all the TSS nanny systems were optional. The best sensor are your mark I eyeballs.
I was going to ask if Nate had tried accessing the “regular” cruise vs the radar cruise. Sooooo many people have never been shown how to do that. (I sell Toyota for a living and have to educate folks all the time on that).
Thank you for your opinions. I love your realistic views. I've never owned a toy and let me say again I appreciate the real opinions.
Good detailed video advising us about issues. I've been reading about issues with the camera sensors having issues with things like dirt, water, getting out of adjustments ever since they started putting them on vehicles. Even worse when they stick them inside windshields which runs up the cost to replace a cracked windshield. They simply haven't made these reliable and trouble free and I wouldn't want them on my car or truck at all. Just another thing to drag you back and forth to the dealer.
I scrolled through a lot of comments, and I don’t see anybody telling you you’re wrong. Good video.
Thank you for this honest review! Very refreshing to see these videos on the Tacoma.
Honestly it’s a huge breath of fresh air to see Toyota owners who can admit their vehicle is not exempt from problems.
If only others could realize that if they would simply admit the shortcomings and issues, they might be addressed in later models in turn improving the brand with time.
Great review and I appreciate your honesty. One of the best channels!
I own a taco sport and despite mine not having all the off road bells and whistles I appreciate all the work you put in to this video. Especially the 4H to 4L issue, that’s a big deal and would cause major issues in something simple like being stuck in snow.

The 4lo is a non issue. The Ford, Chev Colo.........etc. have the same shifting bug. If this were so catastrophic all the new car reviewers would have jump on this. So happens the above youtuber does not know his beans. I get my Taco into 4lo without problems but a small learning curve.

Ravenol 75W is a direct Toyota LM fluid replacement, change oil, order off of Amazon, its 1 liter, has two tubes in bottle, pours right into transfer case.
Shifts are night and day faster, and works every time. Makes a huge shift difference, so not out 75-90 gear oil into the transfer case (dealers do this) this is incorrect fluid.
@@Ralphyboy I am no expert, not saying ur wrong. In 4hi/4lo the transfer case binds. To get back to 2wd you have relieve this pressure, some people back up a foot, I back & turn motor off. Usually you hear a click; then transfer case is free, restart. Electronic 4wd is hard to deal with, lever transfer case, much better. (If the 4wd servo fails then SOL).
When you open the door with the key in and its beeping, press the black button in the door jam right next to the manufacture sticker and it will stop. Your welcome! Honest, helpful review Nate. Always dig your content 👍
I work at a Toyota dealership and I appreciate your honesty in your experience. I have a base model SR Tacoma myself and look forward to doing some upgrades to it.
I just bought a 08 FJ Cruiser, it’s a 6 speed manual with the manual shift transfer case, I always own older vehicles, this one is actually quite new to me 😂 the main reason I bought a 6 speed is because I don’t mind doing a clutch but I can’t stand high mileage automatics, seem to be problematic for me.
One thing I can recommend is keep a code reader/ multi function gauge hooked up in your truck, my Toyota seems to pop up a random code every few weeks, I kind of think all the extra stuff just seems to be BS, Toyota’s aren’t what they use to be.
Sorry to hear you are having so many problems man.

Im really attracted to the brand new 4runners and tacos but common sense tells me to stick with the older ones bc of $. Thinkin of picking up a first gen sequoia next! They are so cheap!
My 06 4runner eats gas caps and causes tps errors. I just install a new gas cap every year and clean my maf sensor and throttle body. This may not have anything to do with your problems. I do carry a odbc reader and clear the codes. Great tip bro!
I got a 2010 fj, and I have a blue tooth odb II reader plugged in to it for weeks at a time and never seen an error code.
Excellent video. Simply matter of fact comments about what you have experienced. For the warranty issues, we need to hope that the dealer and Toyota will step up. I am a life long Jeep owner, and mostly happy, and know about all their well known "quirks". But now I am looking to replace my 2010 JK with either a new JL or the Tacoma TRD Off-Road (not the Pro). so your video is exactly what I need to see to help compare. WAY too many fan-boy (or girl) videos out there that are just painful to watch. So keep up your excellent videos and style.
Hello, I just purchased a 2023 Tacoma TRD sport November 1 -2023, wish I had seen your video before I purchased this truck!! Good video.
Thank you for the info!! This is the reason I like old 4x4s, nuts and bolts
I would think your front sensor issue is more likely to be with the bull bar hoop you added, it's probably detecting it and not seeing it move, so it registers it as dirt or implausible data, and after unplugging it and removing it to clean it you threw a hard fault.
This is a really great summary of some important issues. This is also exactly why I got an old 2002 4Runner. No one understood why I got an old used 4x4 instead of a brand new one. She may not have all the fancy electronics, but nothing breaks. I have an aftermarket head unit, basic cruise control, and a manual 4x4 transfer case. Nothing electrical goes wrong because there's barely any electronics at all! I can actually use the car off-road without worrying about my electronics failing on me. Not to mention for the price of a Tacoma I could get an entirely new engine, transmission, and any upgrades I could possibly want.. I'd still be under MSRP for a new Tacoma or 4Runner.
You are so spot on!!! I actually have a 2020 manual and it's got to be the worst manual I've ever driven. No reverse lockout, you shift your reverse all the time when you're just trying to shift into first gear! Horribly annoying and slightly dangerous. Please let me know if you figure out the 4low situation, because I've experienced the exact same thing and the dealer basically did nothing and thought I was crazy! They drove it and shifted it on pavement and said there's nothing wrong. I explain to them that I'm sure it shifted fine when it was on pavement, but that was not the case in real four-wheeling situation. You forgot one major complaint, the gas mileage is terrible for a 2020 vehicle! Thank you so much for this video, keep up the great work! 👌🤗🙌🙌
Hey Nate, thanks for this video! I have always been a Toyota guy but this video is interesting. I never knew they had that many problems for such an expensive and modern/new rig. On the flip side I bought a 2020 Silverado trailboss and have had about triple that many problems including replacing the transmission and most electrical stuff 🤦🏽♂️ I sorta hate new cars lol
I love how the discovery 2 is a old, used, and known for issues, but she has been just good and simple! My discovery 2 has had some work but it’s been amazing:D. You inspire me to do the stuff I wanna do. Im 20 and Im in the trades so I have a lot of tools at my fingertips! So excited:) God bless bro and thanks for the super SICK vids.

I agree- I find it funny how Toyota people just preach and preach about how reliable their trucks are- and how unreliable Land Rovers are- but I've found my 2003 Discovery (supposedly the worst year ever) to be trouble free for the most part and I wheel it hard. It's set up as an overland rig and it does just that! I think ALL vehicles have problems- and this proves it- even the "reliable" Toyotas- so buy something you love (used) and put in the effort (and money) to keep it running. It's a shame to see a brand new truck with this many issues- especially the "designed in" ones- but that's why I always buy used vehicles - most of the issues have forum solutions that are tried, tested and work!
At this point the reliability of Toyota is just a stereotype from years past. These days they are not anymore reliable than other brands.
@@yjmsrv I also have a 2003. It's never left me sit in 5 years of owning it. She will complain about something once in a while but as long as it's not ignored, she's happy.
@@matth4069 yeah- they need attention- but I don't think any more attention then most other trucks. They have the added benefit of being the best-looking trucks on the road IMHO
Thanks for posting this. Making me rethink getting a tacoma. I had a brand new jeep rubicon and it was endless annoying issues like this and that’s the last thing I want to deal with again
Awesome video! Appreciate your honesty. I live in Canada and own a 2016 Taco Ltd. Had a new tranny put in at just over 90,000 miles. They couldn't tell me what happened !! Thank God I had the extended warranty to cover the $7500.00 bill.
Happy with my 1st gen you just made me happier :) !
Good to see the honest review!
I have a 2018 Tacoma I personally never had those issues but it’s good to know the 3rd gen
tacoma does have these issues so I can possibly plan or know where to look if these things do happen. Thanks for making this video hope to see more of the Tacoma content.
Great video and very detailed. Thank you for all of this information. In summary, what I am hearing in this review and many others similar to this is that these are very reliable vehicles but have lots of “annoyances.” Given the price tag, those “annoyances” are kinda hard to justify. I drove a 98 for many years and was a great truck. However, I feel these trucks now days are a bit over priced for what you are getting. But the same is probably true for any new vehicle.
Funny you mention the seating position. I had an early 90's Toyota truck that I loved, but my only complaint was sitting on the floor. My legs were nearly straight.
Same here. Well my best friend had one and I had a cj-7 but we swapped vehicles constantly. Being young it didn’t bother me but was the first thing I noticed. I always joked if we did any water crossings his ass was getting wet first. Now that I’m in my 40’s, outta shape and can’t touch my toes without bending my knees , I’m curious how I’d do. Hahaha.
This sounds like the top reasons to not buy a new Tacoma. It sucks you've had so many issues with a brand new truck. But people like you are the ones to honestly and accurately describe the functional issues and problems to give appropriate warnings to others. Thank you for your research, troubleshooting, and time making videos like this.
Thanks for you time and input. Helping me narrow my choices for an overland vehicle.
We need these kind of reviews. Do you think Consumer Reports or Edmonds would tell us this? Loved it. I have a '22 TRD OR MT and you have not swayed me. I am interested in your Jeep though! LOL.
Good review. Wouldn't be surprised if a number of the issues were caused by trying to hit an MPG number: like wonky shifting, the inverter control, and thin skid plates.
"If your a Toyota fan stick around.. I'm gonna void the warranty" lol
Good video Nate👍
Great honest review.... everything has problems not all of us have seen or experienced each and every problem, that doesn't mean they don't exist. For a company truck I drove a base model tacoma with an automatic transmission or slush box, was not impressed with many things. I agree with consumers holding the marketing division accountable.... there were several points made that are spot on.
The 4 low issue happened to me on my 2018. I found wheels straight, neutral, parking brake and then select 4 low. That has worked for me everytime.
“Off-road” to most now a days is the mall parking lot, which is sad.
Who cares about what others do. I off-road on weekends and most people don’t. So what. I also hike and go to the gym and most people don’t. I just don’t understand you’re comment
@@hayden8693 well if you watched his video you would understand my comment....
What a great comment!
So true. My SR 4x4 probably hits the dirt more than 80% of TRD off-road Tacoma's, and it's many thousands of dollars cheaper. I think many truck buyers overestimate how much capability they need, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. However, I think the choice often has a lot to do with keeping up with your neighbor, at least where I live.
Your right bro pavement princesses
I'm pretty sure if you contact corporate, I'm sure they can get you in touch with an engineer. You can go over everything with them. Having worked for Toyota, they really don't like customers being test subjects. They may even be aware of all the issues and can direct you how to fix them. Believe me, it's a point of pride to them.
I’m sure there is no change they will put him on the phone with an engineer. 🙄
HIGH FIVE! I have my name on a 2022 TRD off road coming in early October and looking forward to it. Crush Blue. I will watch this again X6 to take care of the issues you speak of. Thank you so much. Dave
I am a Toyota truck fanboy, with that being said, I want unbiased reviews so I know if there is anything I need to watch out for or you may figure something out that I have an issue with. Keep it all coming brother
That's why I don't like all the electronics that are on newer trucks! It's always some BS like the transfer case.
I owned the 4Runner and Tacomas since 1989. My brand loyalty was over the top. Never thought i would switch companies. When i need a new car, i was off to the Toyota dealership. I was in a bad crash with my 2016 Tacoma. Vehicle was totaled. I fully expected to purchase a new 2020-21 Tacoma off road in Silver. At the time there were none available and the dealership that i purchased 4 vehicles from acted as if they couldn't be bothered trying to find what i needed and wanted, we stopped off at the Jeep Dealership and fell in love with the Gladiator. im now just over a year with the Gladiator and absolutely love it. I purchased a Rubicon in Billet Silver. From the sales, finance ,and service im am totally satisfied with this vehicle. There is one fault with the Jeep which is the Back window leaks from the factory. The windows are on backorder and the Jeep Wave program has supplied me with a rental until the new glass comes in stock (first week of may). Again, i was a Toyota loyalist who has switched over to Jeep and absolutely love this new truck. Cant see myself every going back to Tacoma
we have a 2017 TRD OFF ROAD and have the same issue with the shifting. It is a pain in the butt when we were driving on the highway. Great video. Hope we do not encounter the electrical gremlins.
The manual shifter was reason why I went with the 4runner instead of the Tacoma.
With that said, Toyota needs to have you test their vehicles so they can build better off road vehicles.
If you want the beeping to stop with the door open press the black button near the door latch. Just tap it. By the way love the Tacoma content.
