  • Hello everyone!
    Little bit of a different video today, talking about some of the not-so-fun aspects of painting minis.
    Hopefully I’ll have a full paint with me up this week as well.
    Take care!

    I totally agree with painting for fun. I forced myself to paint the 30 unpainted miniatures I had and didn't paint again for over a year. Since the. I have made sure to only get one miniature or terrain at a time to paint. About to tackle a large castle once it gets here.

    You have a very smooth and comfortable way of expressing your ideas that is easy to listen to. I agree with everything you're saying about mini painting fun (well, except for stripping a mini and starting over). I've NEVER had a mini painting session go the way I pictured it in my mind, but I still find myself enjoying the process. Thanks for the great video!

    You should use contrast/speed paints. That will up your paint game 100 fold on those D&D minis.

    • @BundoksCavern
      @BundoksCavern  6 днів тому

      I’m not super fond of speed paints and don’t have any contrasts in my inventory. I’m one of those folks that likes to finish up what they have before picking up something new.
      Feel free to check out some of my newer videos to see improvements! And keep in mind, this video was crafted to remind new painters that it’s okay to not meet perfection in other’s eyes and to enjoy painting at their own pace.

    Great video and advice I absolutely agree, paint what you like to paint! The imagination of creation coincide better to things that inspire you. I found that during some of my figure painting I didn't like where some were looking and almost set them in a drawer but instead, I weathered through what I call "the ugly duckling stage" and it gets easier when you return to it later with a fresh mind. Don't be discouraged by your ugly duckling stage just keep at it and you will see the effort is well worth it! I hope you continue your journey, thank you! ❤ ✌️

    Great video! I am on a similar journey, started painting a few months ago, got much better, but once in a while I make something bad or a mistake and can esily become my own worst critic. Taking a step back and enjoying the process is key, as Bob Ross said, only happy little mistakes! Everything is salvageable and more often than not, you are the only one who knows what went wrong. Also I often end up learning more from my mistakes and tend to not repeat them, building up my experience.
    Thanks for sharing!

    Love this, liked & subscribed for the relatability / honesty! Echo lots of people here, enjoyment is key! One of my recent realisations / quandaries is balancing the set up time against painting for too long in one session and getting worse over time and it becoming a chore!

    I'm not great at it at all but have been doing it as a creative outlet for about three months. My tip is, you rarely need to strip the paint. Just prime over it and get right back into it. I always lose motivation/interest when I chuck a mini in the LA's Totally Awesome, but I've never lost interest when I spray primed and was feeling stubborn to try again the next night.

    • @BundoksCavern
      @BundoksCavern  4 місяці тому +1

      I’ve only had to do a full paint strip once when after the re-prime a lot of detail was lost.

    Reminds me of a figure I painted 3 times till I got something I was okay with.
    Also had to learn to take my time. I just hate letting stuff sit there unfinished so I often rushed stuff. Now I am starting to get more relaxed but still there is this urge to get things done.

    • @BundoksCavern
      @BundoksCavern  2 місяці тому +1

      If you're interested in other media, I highly recommend either watercolor or sumi-e ink painting. Those were two of my mediums before painting minis, and it quickly breaks you of rushing or forcing anything. I am now very thankful for all of my failed paintings from past.

      @@BundoksCavern Finaly buying a wet pallet and scheduling my paint sessions is what helps me.
      I now know that things will get done over time and that I don't have to worry.
      Also made room for a showcase and when in doubt, just walk over and admire my work, knowing that I will get things done.

      Thank you so much for your kind words. Welcome to the Cavern!
      I used to do a good deal of watercolor painting before this. I recommend getting some less expensive craft acrylics and just mess around with mixing; it can help with understanding some ranges. There’s also tons of color-based tutorials here on UA-cam.
      When it comes down to it, don’t be afraid to take a leap and experiment with it! Can always go back over with a shade you prefer more.

    A very niche and semantics thing, but if folks are used to Nolzurs and the like just be aware that Warhammer minis will generally need some other supplies to clean and assemble them. But otherwise yes agree with everything you said!

      @BundoksCavern  4 місяці тому

    decades of painting for tabletop use.
    YOU are your own worst critic. this is because you are the one that spent the time to apply the paint and observed first hand the things that did or didn't work. you are the one that is aware of any 'mistakes'.
    others will have an opinion, but don't have a clue about 'your' experience bringing color to a colorless object.
    and, unless you are a top tier Painter that enters and wins competitions, this is about YOUR enjoyment - not the appeasement of others biased opinions.

      @BundoksCavern Yeah I live about 15 mins from AG. Lol. I go to Lazarus and Comic Store West also. For most DnD minis I order off Gnomish Bazaar. Haven't found anyone who can beat their prices. Although I don't buy many Wizkid Minis anymore. Mostly Reaper and Dungeons and Lasers.
