    omg just hearing the word amarone makes my head and senses blow up! if i hear the description it’s almost torture not having it right now 😂 it’s poetry in a bottle, dessert in a bottle that’s not sweet, it surely is meditative and much much more. i’d say if a wine could be glamor and sexy, that’s amarone!

      In my opinion Masi has a very unique style Amarone, as they don’t mind some botrytis in their fruit during the drying process. A lot of producers will avoid that. That can bring in some unique flavours for a red wine! 🍷

And when it comes to Amarone, it is truly one of the GREAT wines that can be easily enjoyed in its youth. Because of the winemaking process, the tannins always seem riper and softer than any other wine in their age. 😌 Cheers! I love discussions like these! ✨

    I never understand this correlation between alcohol level and residual sugar. Since sugar is turned into alcohol, it would seem that high alcohol wines like Amarone and Port have had 100% of their sugars converted into alcohol, whereas low alcohol wines like Riesling have had a lesser percentage of their sugars converted to alcohol. However, Amarone, port, and other fortified wines are usually sweet while having high alcohol. How does this make sense?

    • @NoSediment
      @NoSediment  Рік тому +3

      Hi. :) yes, usually ~17 of sugar are needed to create 1% of alcohol via fermentation. So the correlation between sugar amount in grape juice and final alcohol in wine is very real. And grapes for Amarone are dried before pressed and that increases the sugar amount, thus increasing the alcohol level, hence all Amarone wines have elevated alcohol levels. Port wine is different because it is fortified, and it never had a chance to ferment all of its sugars. Because spirit is added to fermenting must, increasing alcohol level to 18 and higher, which is toxic to most yeasts and they die. Thus sugar is left unfermented and alcohol is high because it is not natural -> it is added. I hope I was able to answer Your question.

    • @allanrinaldipaone9850

      re: your question from one month ago to No Sediment.
      The owner of the channel Agnese is not a native English speaker so the term sourish is perhaps foreign to her though I understood your question. Another DM asks about the name which is confusing still as amaro means bitter in Italian, but not as in bitters, but more along the lines I believe you and I think of as sour cherry as in cherry preserves. As for sour like sherry, there are as you know many different styles of sherry, but I can't think of one I would characterize as sour per se. Amontillado has a lovely nutty quality along with oloroso but with more candied fruit and caramel etc. Amarone is dry and you can get that cherry quality as in preserves so perhaps the confusion, and it is very full bodied and rich. They make one for dessert which is called recioto della Valpolicalla which is a dessert style

    How can amarone be sweet where from the name itself is amarone which is derived from the word amaro, which is bitter in Italian.
    Also, do they ferment it until dry?

    • @NoSediment
      @NoSediment  2 роки тому +1

      Hey, Amarone is never sweet tasting as a dessert for example, that is true. Yet, it can sometimes have the richness of the fruit and density, also a little more residual sugar than other classical red wines, all constituting to sweet tasting palate for some! 🤷‍♂️

    • @allanrinaldipaone9850
      @allanrinaldipaone9850 2 роки тому

      re: Amarone wine from video No Sediment
      Amarone is usually quite dry, but somewhat mellow for an Italian red so the etymology is confusing. Amarone would be more ripe than a Valpolicella hence you can confuse or conflate ripeness with sweetness as they often go together. Just think of a ripe brown banana, it is invariably sweeter than an unripe one, but you still would not consider it sweet if you follow me. One tastes sweetness on the tip of the tongue and people often say a wine is sweet when it is in an off-dry or even a dry style. Taste a riesling sometime that you believe is sweet place a bit on the tip of your tongue and then you find that it is not really sweet at all. There is a dessert style wine from that area with the same grapes similar to an Amarone, but is called recioto della Valpolicella, but here it is made in a sweet style with dried grapes and not fermented dry as that would negate the effects of the ripening process. It can be labelled recioto della Valpolicella Amarone at times as it is essentially a dessert style Amarone. Italians do not eat a lot of pastry more fruit and cheese for dessert. The Amarone and better still the recioto style goes wonderfully with aged semi-soft cheeses, but not hard salty ones. Gorgonzola works well if it is not commercially produced as they are usually salty. They also make a Gorgonzola dolce if you can find it which is made for dessert. Hope this helps more than confuses.
