Lyrics
My heart was broken, my heart was broken
Sorrow Sorrow Sorrow Sorrow
My heart was broken, my heart was broken
You saw it,
You claimed it
You touched it,
You saved it
My tears are drying, my tears are drying
Thank you Thank you Thank you Thank you
My tears are drying, my tears are drying
Your beauty and kindness
Made tears clear my blindness
While I'm worth my room on this earth
I will be with you
While the Chief, puts Sunshine On Leith
I'll thank him for his work
And your birth and my birth.

That’s beautiful James
These two guys were so underrated...but they produced some of the best music of the time, and had wonderful harmonising. One of the best acts from the UK, ever.
I 100% agree.
This is one of the most moving, emotional songs on earth.

I was born and raised in Leith and worked on the docks. I emigrated to Australia in 1983 and this song always brings a tear
You sound very interesting and I wonder what took you to Australia. I'm a Kiwi.

This is a truly beautiful song. My late father in law owned the cafe in Leith and featured in the video, as did my sister n law. ❤ They are both sadly no longer with us and it brings comfort to see them both here.

The Proclaimers are outstanding song writers and don't get anywhere near the love they deserve. Cheers for posting this beauty
Wow, I'm 57 years old n only just discovered the Proclaimers after watching the movie Sunshine on Leith. I remember them from the 80's, thought they were only a couple of hits wonder after 500 miles n Letter from America. But after watching the movie today I am a total Proclaimers convert. I have strong family ties to Edinburgh, lost a grandma, uncle n auntie up there, still got 2 cousins left. Proclaimers rock
It is a nice song, they are only remembered for I will walk 500 miles.

The adventures the same

My husband died in March 2023, a huge Hibs fan. I went to Leith last night where they were performing, when this song came on I was uncontrollably sobbing. I miss and love you so much starman… wait for me in the sky. ❤️❤️

God Bless You.

My daughter was born in the old eastern general in leith Edinburgh this song is for her she is my sunshine.
Incredible tune, just beautiful. Anyone who has found this as they’ve suffered loss or bereavement - time is a great healer and better times are around the corner. Keep smiling x
From a guy from Glasgow, I’ve always loved this song ✊🏻🏴💚

This song is sooo powerful.

My Grandfather was an engineer in the merchant navy and lived in a little place called Kirkliston. He travelled around the world but every adventure started at Leith, this song always make me think of him.
Mate, your comment about your cousin made me weep.
Genuinely.
Isn't it so lovely that this is out here forever.
R.I.P, Ma'am.

Played this at my mums funeral, it was the last song as we said our last goodbye’s, beautiful song, brilliant band
Beautiful song. Beautiful group. Love the words; "while I'm worth, my room on this Earth, I'll will be with you" I Love the proclaimers. They should of been bigger than they were. I love all their songs 🎵 ❤
Listened to this last night on valentines day. Cried for ages due to the love I feel for my wife since 1989. The sheer musicality is awesome.
I found a girl who was near her end when I was feeling the same,we saved each others lives, this is our song.
God Bless You both.
❤❤❤
How the hell a song with Leith in the title make my eyes all wet🥰who’s like us 🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
Definitely me.
Most beautiful song ever.
❤❤❤
I worked in Leith docks from 1989-1999 at British pipe coaters and knew the cafe well as we would grab a roll on the way into work.
Leith docks are unfortunately unrecognisable now, nothing to show for the hundreds of years of history which is a shame for anyone who worked there it really was like no other place ive worked.
After working at the docks i started driving buses in Edinburgh and on one of the routes id pick up one of the proclaimers, always polite and grateful to be taken to tollcross.
Ive just retired and moved to fife but every time i hear this song im taken back to sunny(not always) Leith the best time of my life i loved it.
I worked down there pipecoating in 2007. Was some place
When I was there I'm sure they broke every health and safety law in the land, but I'd go back in a second to those days of chaos, dust and Belly laughs.....then into the port of Leith after work for a few pints great days.
@@4fulryan 🤣 I was based up in the ellon yard next to peterhead.. bredero shaw it was called then. Aye it was rough working at the Leith plant, guys chasing the Dragon at work and all sorts. Good criac tho
@@4fulryan they did start putting in a lot more health and safety stuff by the time I worked their. A lot of the older guys were fked with all that dust ect
I understand why,in the summer the dust would be thick in the air as the iron oar was being unloaded dock side, add the enamel plant fumes, and the chemicals used there I'm so lucky to be in reasonable health,I did wear a mask though as I worked in the lab, but still got the piss taken out of me for it though.
Pure class, true originality.
Most underrated band. Love the proclaimers
No, they were a hit in in NZ, not underrated here
100% agree.
❤❤❤
What a gorgeous song. The one who has been through what they sing about knows. So uplifting and strenghtening. Thank you for beautiful words.
Close your eyes, put your head back and listen……..just beautiful!!!!!
Total American Hoosier here. Love the passion in this song. Also, it has caused me to get educated on Scottish culture. Thanks guys!
No thank u hosier from scotland
@@Al-iv3mb I have a dream of visiting Scotland. If I can ever afford it I'll let you know. I would live to see the castles and actually see Leith with my own eyes.
@@RoadDog79 do it if you can mate - an amazing country. get yourself down the Percy (pub) in Leith and then head up to Balmoral/Ballater.
Fellow Hoosier here. This song gives me intense patriotic feelings for a country I don’t come from!
I remember them coming to Dunedin, New Zealand, 1989 from memory. Brilliant
My favourite song, remember buying the album on tape when I got my first car, played this over and over, loved it all my life.
Showed my lad a cassette the other day he had no idea what it was

😂😂😂
I was'nt born anywhere near there, but that's the best anthem to having a HOME and a love ever.
I do have to shout out "todd in the shadows" for doing his "one hit wonderland "episode on "gonna be (500 miles) " and introducing me to the fact that the proclaimers are far more than a one hit wonder in Scotland...they're an icon.
They're iconic globally.
100% valid.
❤❤❤
A Truely beautiful song written by fantastic songwriters and lovely guys who always have time for there fans ❤
Do they realise this is one the simplest most emotive songs which brings a tear to your eye every time you hear it plus an absolute football anthem, one of the best.
They should be so proud, its brilliant. I play it on repeat for hours ❤
I love this song. It's beautiful.
My grandad ( and hero) Lawrence " Jock Bricks" Merrilees.... 1920 1999, true son of Leith and Bolton, Lancashire. The words of these lads song couldnt be truer"

This song just bursts with emotion. A beautiful song, wonderfully sung by Craig & Charlie. Brings a tear to my eye every time I hear it. 😥❤️
Outstanding musicians and songwriters. Probably the most under-rated band ever.
Such an awesome song… beautiful
Part Gospel, part soul. beautiful

I so miss Leith. It has now been over 10 years - my heart is still broken,
From 1988. What a Classic !!!!
I just found out recently that I have a good bit of Scottish ancestry, I have been trying to reconnect with that heritage and stumbled into this song...tear drops are rolling down my face just thinking back to this song.

I'm calling it. Greatest ballad I've ever heard.
Agree, one of the loveliest modern songs ever written. I guess we can’t say anything is perfect but this comes pretty damn close.
I 100% agree with you.

Just read 'Dead Men's Trousers' by Irvine Welsh and now cannot this beautiful song out of my head...
guaranteed to bring a tear joy or sorrow - cheers boys
“Sunshine on Leith is one my favourite song by the Proclaimers “
Why the quotation marks?
40 years now since I left Fife, and this song and the teasing views across the firth still manage to bring a little tear (or two). Thanks for posting this brilliant song and the views.
Beautiful song-love the Proclaimers ❤

Greatness is to be found in the most unlikely places…
I'm friends Steve Shaw (the violin player in this video) he was also the violin player for Dexys Midnight Runners :)
I have long thought this would be a lovely song for someone to have as a first dance together as a married couple.
i walked into the Usher Hall in Edinburgh 31 years ago ?? no idea who they were gig was mental... it helps I am from Leith,,,, my mum of 75 loves this song also.. oh yeah she from Leith also
I'm a Weegie, but i love Leith. Very personal reasons, but i go there as often as i can
Found this song on Carlton hill watching the sunshine on Leith, played by a group of Scottish teenagers drinking red wine out of a thermos. Amazing experience with a good friend and random Scottish girls that made me truly appreciate my room on this earth
that's another one I love crucially and my goodness theres amazing proclaimers are very great 👌👌👍 I love everything they're doing in the video I'm listening to 👍👍👍❤❤
My friend asked me 2 listen 2 this song 🎵. 💯 very emotional, miss so much of my life . I will always be in my heart ❤ I thanku
the guitarist is very amazing on his shoulder the way he's doing the tuning and sliding ❤
After the past 24 hours in the aftermath of the Queen’s death I seem to keep coming back to this song. No a royalist at all but she was that one person in my 47 year life that was always “just there” This sums up the current mood of the country
Thank you for your heartfelt music.
Such a great song, so simple but just terrific. I bought this so long ago, but love to play this on the piano still.
What a classic song from The Proclaimers. They are so talented.
Nothing but beautiful
Love these guys great voices
There's no music like this in the United States.

I was always a hearts supporter and this song always made me want to switch teams just so i could hear this every week lol..
Despite the fact that I am a West Coast Hun, I very much love this song!!
Mark Jabroni I’m a west coast tim and I love it too
Despite the fact I'm from Manchester, I very much love this song. X
When I was living in Bedfordshire, England, I was introduced to this song (and same titled album) by a neighbour...a die hard Jambo originally from Penicuik. Both his leather and bomber jacket were maroon, yet The Proclaimers were his second favourite band...after Runrig, of course.
@Eddie Sorry x
I miss u my beautiful sister rip
Hey Nick, just seen your post, I am so sorry for your loss, if you don't mind me saying, I bet she awesome, and was loved by all. Sending you my sincere best regards and god bless you and your sister and family. Take Care Nick.
