Just make sure you get a good MOS (Check to see how it translates to a RL job later) and make sure anything promised is in writing on your enlistment contract before signing it, DON'T take your recruiter's word for anything hahaha. Also, something they don't tell you. IF you are an American you automatically have an 8 year "contractual enlistment period" as soon as you sign up. A lot of folks I served with went in thinking they only had to do the 2 or 4 years they signed up for and did them and got out. That meant they still owed the govt. 4 or 6 more years. I knew better and served all 8, finishing up the last couple in the reserves and running out my obligation. Later on I was one of the few they could not call back up and deploy to Afghanistan out of the blue due to deciding they needed my MOS. That happened to a LOT of my friends despite them having been out for quite a while and thinking themelves finished with all that stuff.

I was 7 years old, and my brother was 14 when he passed from epilepsy. But everytime I hear this song, it brings me back to one of my happy times with him just singing, dancing, and being goofy to this song. It's been 30 years since he's been gone. You can hear farmers playing it out of their tractor cabs, and coming out of pickup windows. Here in the friggin' Midwest, of all places! And it's popular among all age groups and backgrounds. Even my 80 year old uncle loves it! Very, VERY few popular songs have ever managed to do that. It attests to the talent of these guys. I'm 66 and a farmer in Nebraska. It's incredible the widespread and enduring appeal of this song. Even out here where I live. You can hear farmers playing it out of their tractor cabs, and coming out of pickup windows. Here in the friggin' Midwest, of all places! And it's popular among all age groups and backgrounds. Even my 80 year old uncle loves it! Very, VERY few popular songs have ever managed to do that. It attests to the talent of these guys. You just can't listen to this song without tapping your feet and wanting to sing along with it.

I drive 1000 miles each Christmas to visit my mom who lives in Washington. I always crank up this song when I get to to 500 mile mark! It’s a reminder that I have only half way to go to see my cool and amazing mom! Sadly when I have to leave each year (tomorrow as a matter of fact) the goodbye is always hard specially this year with my Lab being 17 years old and this will be his last trip up here.
