Bette Midler deserved an Oscar for "For the Boys". This is magical and my favourite version of the song. I think of my Dad and his sister who have passed as the persons I love and miss more. God bless
I think about my dad over in Vietnam and think if he got to see any USO Shows that touched him in a way that this song touches me when I hear it. Bette did justice to this song with this rendition of it.

If you haven't seen the movie "Yesterday", it has some beautiful arrangements of this and other Beatles tunes. Toward the end there is an unexpected meeting that had everyone in the theater over 40 tearing up, some openly weeping.

What I find special about this song is how it speaks to simple and pure feeling of love. The way she sings it is offering these troops a moment to ease their minds and be vulnerable. I been deployed three times in my career and I know how they feel as they lower their eyes…home, safety, a hot meal…. No one understands the meaning of peace better than those who have been to war. Peace…

Brilliant movie
I remember seeing "For the Boys" at the movie theater in December 1991 when living in S. FL. I guess I was at a real turning point of sorts in my life. Single, but already with a deep past, at the age of 30. But my lifetime 'real love', the person she sings about loving 'more', was yet to be......and I knew it. Now, most of those in my life at the time are gone. I still remember them often and mostly fondly. I listen to this rendition every "Christmas Time" and it always brings me many tears, yet a big warm heart. Thanks for the memories and all the love....

Crazy I got married in 1991 and I was 21 years old and had one of my best friends sing this song in the wedding.

One of my fave moments was a visit to the British Museum...in a glass case is a simple exercise book open on the page that John Lennon wrote this song. It has verses crossed out that didn't make it to his final version. I will always cherish that memory 🥲
Not sure how I got here but my bday was December 7, and my father of 93 years waited hmmmm. Ok he just passed on December 5, it’s a tough week, but honestly not as many tears as mom 25 years ago… dad … your with mommy now say hi to me in a little while from above

I chose "In My Life" as my 2nd wedding song. My 1st wife had died from an aneurism and here I found myself remarrying years later. This song explained how I felt and my new wife to be approved. Chartered a small cruise ship, planned a dinner for 250, and sailed off into the sunset with fireworks exploding over us. Unfortunately I caught my new wife naked with a 1-armed biker a year later so the marriage dissolved. It's funny how life throws a person a curve ball or two from time to time.

What the "whatever"! I had forgotten about the Divine Ms. M's rendering of one of the best songs over the last 40+ years. This incredible artist virtually always steers our hearts to a better and more beautiful space, and she has informed and illuminated my life for DECADES. Starting more or less when she reopened the Copacabana club here in NYC so many, many years ago. At the time, my boyfriend was the program director at WPIX radio, and after Bette's set, he had her come over to our table so that she could sing to me "Happy Birthday", which is why my pal and I were there in the first place. Is there a heaven. Yes! And part of it is having dearest Bette serenade you!

"The Academy" doesn't know its ass from its elbow, which is clear when you look at the VERY LONG list of *timeless classics* that will live forever, which the Academy snubbed in favour of stupid populist DRECK. I stopped watching their boring excuse for a women's fashion show a long time ago, when I realized I could predict their unworthy "winners" with perfect accuracy every year.
With all the CRAP they award, nobody who has been paying attention thinks an Oscar means a damned thing now -- if it ever did.

Just came from a feed with just the lyrics. Someone commented saying she didn’t do the song Justice. I asked them to watch this. She did more than Justice. Magic. I come back often to this. I cried first time I saw it as I lost a sibling. Decades later lost so much more. This song is magic. I’m holding up my peace fingers too. God bless you Bette. As a singer-songwriter myself, I have always wanted to entertain for the military, so I have always liked the movie.
