@@jlgreer01 Tysm. 😃. I’ve been growing g in acrylic for a few years. It was the only way I could get some of the plants to thrive long-term. There are a lot of videos on my channel about how-to and some tips. 😃😃😃
Hi Paul. I've been sitting watching this video but also thinking how I can put about 10 phals (non blooming) into a dark place. They are on shelves near the kitchen and under grow lights. Turning the lights off is a start but still not dark enough. We don't have a spare room to keep dark so I'm trying to come up with something else to trick these little ....ers into blooming. Maybe some kind of dark curtain may be the answer as well as withholding water. I'm determined and won't stop trying. Any suggestions?
@@renatecormick7399 hahaha. That’s awesome. You can even just limit the amount of time they get light. Like 6 hours of the light, then shut it off. The room I had them in was very dim - the blinds were almost closed, so some light came through, but just a little.
@@angelawhite1347 hi Angela. There are a few different ways you can do it. Either wrapping the roots loosely with the yarn, balling up the yarn and cover with the roots or just placing the acrylic at the bottom and letting the roots grow into it. Really up to you. They usually take to it, either way. 😃👍🏼
Paul, I’ll come clean - I’m into the orchid crack! 😂Those Phals look amazing. Have two that only have a root system (not root porn). It’s not looking good. We were in a heat dome in Canada and the Phals couldn’t cope. Is there hope?
@@deb.m.7458 awww. How are the plants looking? Even with just one good leaf and a couple of roots, they can usually be saved. Let me know the state they are in and we’ll see what we need to do. 😃😃😃
@@paultheplantparent2702 Paul, they look like sh*. The third one has floppy leaves, a flower spike and one good root. I think I might have to bin them, but only when there is no green material left. I’m hoping the babies will fight for their lives and produce a keiki.
@@paultheplantparent2702 I have them in yarn / water culture. Slightly damp, with a misting every time the roots look dry, west facing window with a sheer curtain. Might have to crochet little bed spreads to try to save them!
Do you have a plant with scale? How about a plant with scale damage? Or maybe I should say why I'm asking. First, HI PAULIE!!!! 💚 Second, something seems to be nibbling on my begonias, only my begonias. The plants still look beautiful but something is definitely snacking on a leaf here or there. Nothing drastic. I'm just confused as to what it can be. I can't find any pests.
@@cindyjohnsen326 hmmmm have you checked the soil/pot for slugs or snails? They, and caterpillars can chew holes and pieces out of the leaves. I’m battling scale right now on one of my orchids. But it’s similar damage to mealybugs. Lots of sap and honeydew- that’s how I noticed them. HI CINDY!!!!! 😃😃😃😃😃
@@paultheplantparent2702 Good golly, Mr. Paulie!!! I'd die if there were slugs/snails in my house. But I did just go look and I don't see any evidence of them. I'm going out today for more acrylic yarn. I'll be transferring all 3 of them into yarn. I may clean all the soil off today and stick them in water until I get the yarn.
@@angelawhite1347 it’s pretty easy. You can bunch it up in the middle the roots around the yarn or just leave it at the bottom and the roots will grow into it. No more medium problems with acrylic. 😍🥰🪴
Oh WOW, that's amazing about your Phals!! My Phals haven't bloomed since I got them a few years ago, I will definitely try your dark room method!!😊🙏🙏
Great video… soooo much better without the music…. I would love to know more about growing in acrylic yarn!

Good afternoon Paul, nice to see you and nice shirt!! I wish I could have all of my plants out together like this but my cat won't allow it lol!!😂

After we have cold nights in Florida, the phals go into bloom.
