In my opinion, college basketball in the early 1980s was unreal.
Look at the talent: Micheal Jordan, Patrick Ewing, Ralph Sampson, James Worthy, Akeem Olajuwon, Clyde Drexler, Chris Mullin, Charles Barkley.
    Need I say more!

It seems all greats of the game played against, or for Houston in a dome.

I think you also had John Stockton, Joe Dumars, Karl Malone, Dominique Wilkins, Sam Perkins , Terry Porter and in the very early 80's you had Isiah Thomas and Mark Aguirre.

@@mkhan8527 what does Sam Perkins represent in terms of the NBA?
Because as far as I remember he was an average player at best.

Sam Perkins wasn't the best at his position but he had an above average career and was a good shooter FT & 3PTers . In all, his career got him an Olympic Gold medal and a NCAA title . His best year was 16 pts a game. His least was 11pts. That's not bad in my book.

Drexler and Ewing both lost to Jordan in the Final Four and the NBA Playoffs and Finals.. I bet they hate seeing him on the other side of the court.. Young GOAT 🐐.. doing his thing.. not to mention Worthy and Perkins that UNC team was loaded 32-2 NCAA championship.. Houston and Georgetown would play each other for the 1984 championship 🏆and both those teams were loaded too.. Drexler and Hakeem and Ewing.. so with MJ and Worthy u got 5 future Hall of Famers playing in the 1982 Final Four.. amazing.

If you want to watch something check out the 1982 final four when the heels were dominating the houston cougars and then Hakeem as a freshman who had only played bball for 3 years came off the bench and changed the whole game by altering and blocking shots and rebounding.

This Final 4 was a transition to a new era. First in the dome era (except for 1971 in the Astrodome, which used limited seats), first by CBS, Dean Smith's long overdue first title. The first where a freshman assumed a leadership role in taking the winning shot. And the first of the era of titles often coming down to last second shots. That hadn't happened since the 1963 Loyola overtime win. And the rise of the Big East and the ACC as title winners. And UCLA's long shadow at the final 4 was finally gone. And, from my perspective, the last Final 4 while I still lived at home. I moved out a few months later for a job. Personally nostalgic.

No doubt Guy Lewis gave NC State the chip in 1983, but he coached brilliantly in this tournament. They were a 6 seed and made the Final Four with a bunch of sophomores
