Hey guys, it's me! Eric! I just wanted to thank you guys so much again. The video was very touching, I've been looking forward to it for a long time! It really hits home that you guys are willing to do something like this. I will be a fan as long as I am able and will definitely be pushing others into watching your videos as well. Since my last message I have been doing wonderful, and have even been accepted for a PhD program. I've come a long way since the start and I am eternally grateful to you guys for all that you've done. Looking super forward to season 3!
+Eric Holley Congrats on the PhD program, keep your chin up man. A lot of us have been there or are there, and the only way to get through it is to move forward. Easier said than done, but the thoughts are what count.
+Daniel Omer Thanks for the cheers Daniel. If there's one thing I have learned it's that depression isn't about normalcy or being a normal person, it's about getting better and fighting an illness. Major props to your wife for keeping up the good fight and major props to you for being her rock.
(Choi, Parnell, Wes, Stephen, Suarez) Thanks for watching and supporting Season 2! We've got some great things underway for Season 3 including a little more director involvement (Yay!), some Shadows over Innistrad, and THE MOST requested theme will finally make an appearance next season! Finally, if you're struggling or know someone struggling with mental health issues, find someone to listen to you, educate you, or help you with whatever you're going through! You're not alone! We'll see you next season! (Or perhaps before for a special holiday...)
+Star City Games so that means we are seeing Archenemy with this seasons winner vs everyone? cool. If you guys do an April Fools video could we see Tomorrow, Azami's Familiar? He's a fun commander that lets you see all the things and Wheel effects go through over a 5th of your deck which feels awesome!
As someone who struggles with mental illness every day i just wanted to say thank you. you didn't have to go that big for a fan but you did and i really appreciate the visibility. magic is something i derive so much joy from and it really helps me and i wait for these videos every week, cant wait for season three. grave pact decks forever
as someone who suffers from mental health problems, I can confirm the Commander Versus series has helped me get through since way back in the McDarby/West days. Thanks for all you guys do, and see you next season!
thank you guys, I'm going through some mental health issues too and I've been really struggling but it's good to know you guys care, thanks a lot, I love watching your games :)
I love watching you guys play commander. I have been watching ever since the first video. The fact that you took the time to do a video for someone dealing with mental health problems really touched me. As someone who plays magic to help me cope with my own issues it was awesome to see that I am not alone. Thank you!
TLDW: Action starts at 12:30. Points are: 21 for Justin, 21.5 for Stephen and Suarez, 24 for Wise. The video is dedicated to viewers players and others w/ depression or other mental illness, and as always they're all here for you (and so are we, however many people I can speak for).
Thank you thank you thank you for the dedication for Eric and the rest of us who struggle with mental health issues. It's hard to talk about because there's still a lot of stigma around such things, and any time someone brings awareness to it is a very good thing. Love the show, and please keep up the good work!
I appreciate this episode so much. As someone who suffered with suicidal thoughts among many other mental health issues for many years. Thank you guys so very much.
Great stuff, as always. Really appreciate what you guys do for the community. It's also great that you guys always look like you enjoy what you're doing. See you all in Season 3!
Thanks for the great video, season, and support for those with mental health issues. This means a lot to me, and I personally thank you for addressing it so sensitively and sincerely. Keep up the awesome work (thanks for filming even though you were sick, Suarez!), and I'm looking forward to the next video!
umm... Gisela prevents the all the 1/1 tokens from dealing damage, it's rounded up, not down. garruk would have lived because all of the damage is prevented from the tokens
If Wes won I will be absolutely ecstatic! I'm the guy in my playgroup who get beat up and hated off the board much like Wes did in season one. Him winning is a tribute to all of us players who are a threat as long as they are in the game. Also, to a previous comment made, I believe that first blood is only awarded a point if it is dealt to any player except Wes. John's first blood was against Wes and therefore will not award a point. final Score: Stephen: 22.5, Wes: 26, John: 24.5, Justin: 25. I will be recalculating the videos myself and see if i missed anything. I would love to compare answers.
+Jared Roberts I think you missed Jon's first blood point. He should be in 2nd at 25.5. I didn't really follow his strategy once. Once he got first blood he should have immediately offered SG an alliance to kill Wes and then Justin. Then at worst case case he ties for first. Maybe their are just playin it up for the fun of the audience.
After reviewing I discovered my error. You lose 2 points for attacking the person in sole possession of last place. Because Wes was in last most of the first season, I thought jon was not being awarded points. Also, I discovered a misplay in the very first episode would have made jon the winner of the season. He searched too long on a trigger that lost him 1.5 points. He would have been at 27 points had that never happened. But yes Jon is in second BEATING justin. but wes is the winner.
I would like to see more budget commander in the next season. Also, I know exactly how that feels when your whole week is spent waiting for that next video to come out because of the happiness it brings to your life. Very cool shout out to all of us sad sacks out here!
Pretty much the same here...been struggling with depression for a long time. This and a few other things are some of the ammo I use to fight against my own monsters. I get depressed a lot and getting to watch fun stuff like this makes me smile, gives me some hope, gives me strength and gives me something fun to look forward too.... Thanks Guys ^_^
Thank you for posting this, you guys rock ! All Commanders in the world love you all, and you have bad ass decks! Whoa! From all the Undead above the earth and those still buried under earth, we Ghoals love your madness decks!
Great job Justin for that intro, very classy! I love all your match up guys and I look forward to the third season, keep strong Eric, mtg community is full of nice m8s & lads
Garruk shouldn't have died. Gisela says "to you OR a permanent you control rounded UP." The saprolings were 1/1's, so even the ones that got through would have had all their damage prevented, since .5 rounded up is 1. Therefore, Garruk had 0 damage dealt to him.
+Andrew Jacobs you are incorrect because the damage is being rounded up, not the prevention. For example, I attack you with a 1/1 and you have Gisela on the field (who doesn't block). The 1/1 would be doing 1 damage but Gisela reduces the damage by half the damage rounded UP so 1 becomes 0.5 but is rounded back up to 1 damage (note: This is incorrect, OP is correct)
+TheNewGuy5271 It's the opposite of how you're thinking about it. Damage is halved, and the PREVENTION is what's rounded up. So it would prevent .5, which rounds up to prevent 1.
+Andrew Jacobs F4ll0out is correct. the prevention is rounded up. source: blogs.magicjudges.org/rulestips/2013/03/gisela-will-prevent-all-instances-of-1-damage/ edit: you are as well.
Such a wonderful season 2. I can't wait for season 3 as well as any specials you'll be doing. If you are doing a Shadows Over Innistrad special, I would love that. So much hype. I am greatly looking forward to that block (not just the set). You guys are awesome and keep it up ^_^
53:15 Garruk doesn't die. Gisella reads "prevent half that damage, rounded up.", so if sourced dealt 1 damage, half of that is 0.5, meaning that 1 damage is prevented from each source. Also, it targets permanents, not just creatures.
CaptainKittens19 Why don't you. That is what is prevented. "If a source would deal damage to you or a permanent you control, prevent half that damage, rounded up." Therefore, if 1 damage would be dealt, half of that (0.5), rounded up (1) is prevented. Source: gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=405243
LOOOL this kodama's reach error.... :D No, seriously. Thanks guy, I appreciate your work and like to watch. Jon is actually my favourite even, thanks for your effort despite being sick! For S3, just keep playing new commanders and once in a while a 2vs2 again. There is also a really cool thing called "Big Deck". Just search it at youtube and you'll find it at gameplayes by clonehead or something like that. Maybe you can do it too once, as a special. However i don't know how long an average game will need playing this format. Cheers, Niko
This series is the best, the rest of the verses series on scg is ok but this is the best, u guys r genuinely having a blast, I love it, thanks so much for putting a smile on so many faces.
+Star City Games I love the series, and I think it would be a cool theme for everyone to do their favorite underrated commanders in Season 3. Also, thank you guys for talking a little bit about mental health issues, it is something that tends to be overlooked and it is always good to help people with mental disorders or other issues. Thanks again, Palmer
At 52:30, the saprolings would deal no damage to Garruk. Gisela reads, "Prevent half of that damage, rounded up." Meaning that the damage prevented is over half, so the 1 damage would become 0 damage.
I definitely enjoy every video, and hope this channel lives on for 1,000 seasons. Just for an idea, how about Justin gets a deck that does almost nothing but sacrifice his own permanents, Stephen plays almost exclusively ramp (so he can cast all the lands he wants), Jonathan has a theme of as many cards as possible with "spike" in the card name, and Wes has the same theme with "salt." Or just 4 chaos decks. Seriously. More chaos. It was the greatest thing ever.
just one thing to point out: Gisela PREVENTS half rounded up => those plants only did 4 each, not 5, the 5/5s did 2 each. So Stephen was pretty close to surviving at 1:04 in, if Justin really wanted to save him he could've sac'd some of his black creatures to leave less for Stephen to block
Great season guys! I'm looking forward to the next one. I'd really like to see limited card pool commander decks. Maybe restrict yourselves to a single block or couple of blocks like Shards block or Onslaught/Lorwyn blocks. Anybody can build powerful decks with the same old staple cards we always use in commander. This would be a way to really mix it up and showcase some cards we don't usually see in regular commander.
Cool Finish! Waitin' on season 3. And yes, I'm gonna be crazy and weird, and leave an entire deck list in the comments that I want to see tried in the future: (Sorry, I just really love this tribe, as do many) Wrexial, the Risen Deep Wash Out Ashes to Ashes Mindbreak Trap Dissipate Cyclonic Rift Rite of Replication Ponder Impulse Treasure Cruise Dark Petition Diabolic Revelation Preordain Demonic Tutor Fact or Fiction Temporal Mastery Time Warp Ugin, the Spirit Dragon Adaptive Automaton Door of Destinies Lightning Greaves Expedition Map Mana Crypt Mind Stone Solemn Simulacrum Gilded Lotus Urza's Incubator Worn Powerstone Hedron Archive Thran Dynamo Dimir Signet Sol Ring Burnished Hart Strionic Resonator Thought Harvester Cryptic Cruiser Mindmelter Ulamog's Nullifier Mist Intruder Benthic Infiltrator Ruination Guide Sludge Crawler Bane of Bala Ged All is Dust Deceiver of Form Drowner of Hope Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger Ulamog, the Infinite Gyre Wasteland Strangler Bearer of Silence Void Winnower Dimensional Infiltrator Blight Herder Eldrazi Mimic Artisan of Kozilek Sire of Stagnation Deepfathom Skulker Conduit of Ruin Kozilek, the Great Distortion Matter Reshaper Kozilek, Butcher of Truth Sifter of Skulls Dread Defiler Fathom Feeder Reality Smasher 7x Island 4x Swamp 1x Wastes Cephalid Coliseum Bojuka Bog Cabal Coffers Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth Spawning Bed Rogue's Passage Eye of Ugin Academy Ruins Tomb of the Spirit Dragon Vesuva Temple of the False God Eldrazi Temple Reliquary Tower Sunken Hollow City of Brass Temple of Deceit Command Tower Drowned Catacomb Polluted Delta Dismal Backwater Creeping Tar Pit Underground River Watery Grave
Great season guys! Could you do a video of the Gatewatch (A PW deck) and MTG's three main big bads? (Nicol Bolas deck, Eldrazi deck, Phyrexia deck). Look forward to these every week they come.
Great episode guys! Loved the Savra deck (glad it won :P). Can't wait for season 3. Also I really like that Choi now puts funny little captions throughout the video, its great to have him along for the ride.
+Star City Games I started watching Commander Vs when season 2 came out. I have to say, I love it, I love how you guys progress through games and I love that I get to see a variety of decks with a ton of cards I've never thought of for commander before. I honestly can't wait between episodes and am excited to go back and watch season 1 :D Thanks for all the hard work!
Can you guys do a Nekusar, the Mindrazer deck? I would love to see how you guys would play him. Btw, great job on the videos, enjoyed and learned from each one. Keep it up!
Great video guys! I love these videos and always look forward to them every week! Was definitely rooting for Steven Green though... Next season you guys should each play a God from theros, a guild from return to ravnica (would love to see a Rakdos lord of riots deck) or a shard of alara! Keep up the great work
To Stephen Green about Mayael.....Lurking Predators? Strionic Resonator? Hunting Grounds? There are plenty of options in the Naya color pie to make it work. You could go the token rush route too, that's what i do,though i play with gahiji since even the tiniest of tokens are deadly then :P Anyways, love the video, would love to see some more(especially some sort of planeswalker commander battles) and looking forward to season 3 x)
Justin, you can declare the creature blocking and then sacrifice it before damage is dealt. The damage would be blocked and you’d still be able to search for a land. In reference to you sacrificing your elder on turn 2.
Here's an idea, because we as humans love a good end of the world conspiracy, or just end of the world ideas, why not do it with Magic? There's the obvious Zombie apocalypse and Natural disasters. Another theory could be a religious one, so maybe an angel deck that focused around damage. Sadly, i can't think of a fourth one, but given how smart you guys are and how you've got a much larger knowledge of Magic, i'm sure you could come up with a fourth idea. Then, we can truly find out how this world will come to an end.
Stephen green plays the red Armageddon deck piloted by feldon. Wes plays high tide water world blue. Justin plays zombies. Suarez plays clerics? maybe angel - human tribal? Avacyn human-angels?
James Cook I'd like to clarify though, i'd want the point of the zombie deck to be to overwhelm the other players. i want the decks to play into the themes as much as possible. So, if Stephen did play the armageddon deck, i'd want it to be full of effects that deal damage and cause loss of life, much like an armageddon would. The water level deck could be a kind of monster based deck? maybe? i'm not sure. I've wanted to see a kiora big creature type deck for a while. although, with my somewhat limited knowledge of magic, i don't know how that would play out.
Am I reading Gisela text wrong or since garuuk is a permanent Stephen controlled wouldn't the 1/1 tokens deal dmg, but half rounded up is prevented so they would deal 0 and nothing would need to block or be sacrificed?
Nice season guys. I Really like this series and I watch every video of Commander Vs. You guys should consider start uploading your series in a separate channel, since the only reason I don't subscribe to your channel is to not be flooded with SCG videos when I only want to watch the Commander ones.
+Leonardo Boccaletti (Jeremy) The videos that are pushed to subscribers are very cultivated. You would get the Commander VS, Select VS, the first round of SCGLive archives, and a few select others. We make sure not to flood our subscribers with everything we post, it would be way too much :)
At 53:00, Shouldn't Stephen's Garruk survive with 1 loyalty counter due to Gisela's effect preventing half of the damage dealt to Stephen or a permanent he controls?
+Goo Man garruk shouldnt have taken any damage actually. Half the damage from each source is prevented, rounded up, meaning 1/1s do no damage whatsoever.
if i send you guys a deck list or two could you guys use them in the next season of commander vs???, i have to fun ones that would like to be seen played in a 4 player
At 58:00 should wes not have payed mirror entity before he got the landfall trigger then activated t and landfall end with avenger of zendikar on everyone
I would like to see Nahiri and/or Kytheon make an appearance. My favorite deck is Brimaz and I was very exited to see the Akroma decks last week. I think it would be interesting to see a more low-cost, equipment-focused style of deck with Kemba/Nahiri/Kytheon/Brimaz, etc. Just a thought and love the series!
We are playing a special commander format, we call it "Giant Commander" All cards in the deck including commander must be 5 cmc or more, there is our own banlist: extra turns, boardwipes (wrath of god, armageddon, jokulhaups etc.) and counterspells are banned. We also most of the time play it with planechase which makes really big difference during first five turns. Actually we started playing it more than normal commander.
I really enjoyed playing a Penta Superfriends commander deck with Horde of Notions as the general. The Chain Veil + Garruk Wildspeaker + Tezzeret the Seeker.
Can't wait for season 3. I'm not a fan of 2HG, but understand if there's a crowd for it. Other than that episode, I really enjoyed this season's decks and games.
(Before watching) I swear Stephen better win I love mayael! 1st update: I love seeing many of the cards I play in his deck it makes me feel like I made it right 2nd Update: Rip stephen still loved his deck 3rd Update: You need illusionist bracers for mayael and she goes crazy
+Star City Games I'm not sure if this would be interesting or boring, but what about a video with vanilla legends commanders like Tobias Andrion, Barktooth Warbeard, Jasmine Boreal and Jerrard of the Closed Fist, and make them need to win with commander damage with these as the only creatures.
Hey guys, it's me! Eric! I just wanted to thank you guys so much again. The video was very touching, I've been looking forward to it for a long time! +Michael Smith Starring that Cryptic Command deck
Zoide burger? like a deck of just crabs/krackens. playing magic why not play Zoide burg?
+Star City Games so that means we are seeing Archenemy with this seasons winner vs everyone? cool.
If you guys do an April Fools video could we see Tomorrow, Azami's Familiar? He's a fun commander that lets you see all the things and Wheel effects go through over a 5th of your deck which feels awesome!

St. Patrick's Day edition. 4 green commanders. 4 green mono coloured decks. That would be fantastic.

Much respect for taking a couple minutes to discuss an issue as important as mental health.
Very thankful for the intro. Y'all's show is great. Every Wednesday gets me pumped
WES WISE TRUE WINNER OF SEASON 2!!!!
agreed
+giovanni quintelli GO WES
yes he is. congratulations wise
+giovanni quintelli He didn't win just because everyone at the table is bullying him! #teamwes
+giovanni quintelli spoiler alert...
Savra was the first deck I built from scratch, and I'm so happy to have seen her beat down not one, but two Sigarda's.
keep your head up Eric. Im in a similar boat. I hope everything turns around for you, and thank you for shedding some light on mental health.
Thank you for posting this, you guys rock ! All Commanders in the world love you all, and you have bad ass decks! Whoa! From all the Undead above the earth and those still buried under earth, we Ghoals love your madness decks!

I want to see a game where all four players use one of the nephilims.
Also, #chestache
Cmon star city do this!!!!
you guys are amazing, I love yall.
takes a lot of stones to talk about depression in such a large thing as you guys
Garruk shouldn't have died. Gisela says "to you OR a permanent you control rounded UP." The saprolings were 1/1's, so even the ones that got through would have had all their damage prevented, since .5 rounded up is 1. Therefore, Garruk had 0 damage dealt to him.

:') thank you gentlemen and that fan who sent in the letter, loved this episode
i believe gisella says damage dealt to you or permanents you control is halfed rounded up. meaning that 1/1s do 0 damage
Again, very fun to watch! Keep doing those!!
How about all the same commander. Pool all cards from your created decks for a draft.
Suarez and the forest, that's it, i've done it :)
I love this series b/c 1. Commander Gameplay is hard to come by 2. It's half comedy
Also you should do commander no banned list
53:15
Garruk doesn't die. Gisella reads "prevent half that damage, rounded up.", so if sourced dealt 1 damage, half of that is 0.5, meaning that 1 damage is prevented from each source. Also, it targets permanents, not just creatures.
+Joshua Williams .5 rounded up.... so 1
CaptainKittens19 that's what gets prevented.
no... read the card lol
CaptainKittens19 Why don't you. That is what is prevented.
"If a source would deal damage to you or a permanent you control, prevent half that damage, rounded up."
Therefore, if 1 damage would be dealt, half of that (0.5), rounded up (1) is prevented.

I remember back in the McDarby/West days. West once said "Bayou is so bad Parnell won't even play it." Low and behold Parnell is not playing a Bayou.
That was a great start to the video guys, good on you :)
You guys keep doing all these five-color generals, but today we finally got to see The King. Great Finale!
Thx Guys for the intro.. and thx for all the great work u have done!
Wow these were 3 of the Commanders that I've been excitedly hoping for in the same video
Thanks again,
Palmer
I agree on this, would love to see some of the older commanders like Dakkon Blackblade =p
That GI Joe clip scared the hell out of me.
Seriously. More chaos. It was the greatest thing ever.
just one thing to point out: Gisela PREVENTS half rounded up => those
plants only did 4 each, not 5, the 5/5s did 2 each. So Stephen was pretty close to surviving at 1:04 in, if Justin really wanted to save him he could've sac'd some
of his black creatures to leave less for Stephen to block
It's rounded up 2.5 rounded up is three not two
...well yes, but that's how much damage it is preventing, so PREVENTING 3 damage out of 5, means they only do 2
Max Korah sorry I misread it and thought they did half their damage rounded up not that she prevented half the damage
Rewatching the video and couldnt of justin saved steven by damage to wises face? Like he forgot to double the burn damage because of grisela
I've only watched the intro, and this is already my favorite episode
Cool Finish! Waitin' on season 3.
And yes, I'm gonna be crazy and weird, and leave an entire deck list in the comments that I want to see tried in the future:

Great season guys! Could you do a video of the Gatewatch (A PW deck) and MTG's three main big bads? (Nicol Bolas deck, Eldrazi deck, Phyrexia deck). Look forward to these every week they come.
@56:12 why does the plant token that Justin gives to Wes have a normal back?
That would be a token from Zendikar vs eldrazi, those have regular magic backs
Great episode guys! Loved the Savra deck (glad it won :P). Can't wait for season 3. Also I really like that Choi now puts funny little captions throughout the video, its great to have him along for the ride.
+Star City Games
I started watching Commander Vs when season 2 came out. I have to say, I love it, I love how you guys progress through games and I love that I get to see a variety of decks with a ton of cards I've never thought of for commander before. I honestly can't wait between episodes and am excited to go back and watch season 1 :D Thanks for all the hard work!
Wes won season 2 !!!!!!
#TeamWes
Can you guys do a Nekusar, the Mindrazer deck? I would love to see how you guys would play him. Btw, great job on the videos, enjoyed and learned from each one. Keep it up!
Great video guys! I love these videos and always look forward to them every week! Was definitely rooting for Steven Green though... Next season you guys should each play a God from theros, a guild from return to ravnica (would love to see a Rakdos lord of riots deck) or a shard of alara! Keep up the great work
I think Mayael is probably my favorite general to play as.
To Stephen Green about Mayael.....Lurking Predators? Strionic Resonator? Hunting Grounds? There are plenty of options in the Naya color pie to make it work. You could go the token rush route too, that's what i do,though i play with gahiji since even the tiniest of tokens are deadly then :P
Anyways, love the video, would love to see some more(especially some sort of planeswalker commander battles) and looking forward to season 3 x)
Do they post the deck lists they use anywhere?
+Murdoc Niccals (Choi) It's in the description, but here you go!: www.starcitygames.com/article/32538_CMDR-VS-A-Special-Request.html
***** My bad, probably should have checked first. Thanks though!
+Star City Games still should have used the changeling champion combo
I was looking for the episode when you played planechase. I'd like to watch it again. Do you guys have the link ? Thanks!
WES WISE!!!! HE DID IT!
#Chestache
We make sure not to flood our subscribers with everything we post, it would be way too much :)
the Mayael deck looked sweet
Wes Wise could have activated Mirror Entity ability when Trostani checked its toughness upon it entering the battlefield in order to gain 6 extra life
Is there a chance to get your sweet commander vs series command zone pattern to download? I'd love to print it and use it in my group!
Good stuff guys, congrats on another season.
Ah, yeah you're right
I'm thinking you guys could try out the Tiny Leaders format in season 3, since it's so similar to commander?
Great job with the mental health resources guys!
Thank you for the trostani and mayel deck. I needed suggestions for my decks.
CHEAT COUNT. Kodama's reach doesn't put both lands onto the field tapped. JUST ONE.
Gotcha.
Good season guys. Look forward to the next one!
For mayael they should try and use wilderness reclamation
if i send you guys a deck list or two could you guys use them in the next season of commander vs???, i have to fun ones that would like to be seen played in a 4 player
Just thinking... would it be possible to have either Danny West or Daniel McDarby for Season 3, even for 1 ep and do a Star Commander format?
+Thomas Bennetts (Kastor Mener) This needs to be heard. All hail the God McDarby and the......... God West. They're both God, deal with it.
Damn! i forgot it was already wednesday!!!! SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW
Can't wait for season 3. I'm not a fan of 2HG, but understand if there's a crowd for it. Other than that episode, I really enjoyed this season's decks and games.
(Before watching) I swear Stephen better win I love mayael!
1st update: I love seeing many of the cards I play in his deck it makes me feel like I made it right
2nd Update: Rip stephen still loved his deck
3rd Update: You need illusionist bracers for mayael and she goes crazy
cant wait for season 3! You guys should try some pauper-commander, where any uncommon dude can be you general and everything else is commons
You don't get death triggers when your commander goes to the command zone. It doesn't hit the graveyard. 1:12:00 ish
YES! Somebody finally played my favorite commander, reaper king!!
