I heard it explained this way. It’s like breaking your neighbour’s window and then going to them and sincerely apologizing for it, if your neighbour forgives you that’s great..but ya still gotta fix the window. The Protestant view is like your neighbour forgiving you and then you just walk away.

    • @thomasprice3667
      @thomasprice3667 5 місяців тому +2

Not exactly. Yes the window should be fixed, but in The Protestant view Jesus is the one who fixes the window because we are completely unable to do so. my only duty is to repent and try to not do it again. But if I do, once again Jesus fixes the window for me

Not exactly. Jesus forgives our sins but does not relieve the consequences.

@@DivineMercy_Official Natural consequences of sin yes, but consequences/sin that damns you to burn in purgatory unless you pay off the debt through penance determined by a priest?? No. There’s zero biblical grounds for this and it denies the atoning sacrifice of Jesus for the absolution of all your sins. His sacrifice has cleansed and fully justified once for all those who believe in Christ for salvation. You’re either forgiven of sin and fully justified through faith in Jesus, or you’re not and you must earn it yourself.
The latter is what you guys teach, that you must earn your way to God either through living a sinless life, doing penance, or suffering in purgatory. “how much penance is enough?” or “How long will you suffer in purgatory?” Who knows, so you better do as much as you can and hope YOUR works were enough. Your faith is in how well you perform and not Christ. Catholicism is a works based religion and spits in the face of what God has done. He has absolved us from every sin debt we will and have incurred and He did this through the death and resurrection of His only son Jesus.
Alms giving, prayer, and fasting are all great things to do and we should do, but Jesus never taught they are a means to pay off any kind of sin. That’s a denial of Christ.
We are saved by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone. Ephesians 2:8-9

This may be mentioned in the upcoming Saturday Explaining the Faith. Is the Divine Mercy Chaplet penance or retribution? How about the novena?. I am thinking penance- as we are asking God to give something to us & humanity. If this is so, then am thinking that retribution is us ministering to God by giving Him something- our love, praise, worship foe example. Still figuring this out but learning.

    Please can you help.
I have been informed that we cannot have communion on the hand only on the tongue from a priest our churches are using Eucharistic ministers who give iii in the hand as does the priest.

    • @DivineMercy_Official
      @DivineMercy_Official  2 роки тому +2

Thank you but I am a bit confused by the question. Remember, the saints tell us that we should never let anyone or anything stop us from receiving our Lord as long as we are in a state of grace, whether communion is on the hand or on the tongue. If we put that ahead of the grace of receiving God in humility (even if it is not the way we like), it becomes pride. God bless.

    Father Chris,
I was raised Catholic and returned after 30 years. I have a lot of sins that I've confessed, but more pop up after confession. Then I forget them again when I go to confession. (My memory is not good)
Anyway, when I explain this to my local priest, he thinks I'm being scrupulous and should accept absolution of them all and be contented.
    2 questions
    1. Is he correct? I know it's awful to doubt him, but it's very serious to me, very serious, and it doesn't seem to be to him.
    2. He doesn't give me penance (or my husband penance). I am trying to do penance on my own. But I feel my penance should be severe from him. Does it matter that he doesn't give me penance?
I'm not trying to speak ill of him. He's very kind, I just feel so deeply convicted of my sins that it breaks my heart.
I've tried to make a longer appointment with him to confess because confession times are so short in our congregation and I don't want to take time from other people. But he won't see me outside confession times.
I could use some guidance. He is the only priest in our Parish

    • @DivineMercy_Official
      @DivineMercy_Official  10 місяців тому +1

Yes, you should try to confess all Grave sins you can remember but if you truly forget them you are forgiven. If you remember them then it is good to confess at your next confession. Also, yes the priest should give you a Penance but if he does not you can do a Penance on your own. It might be good to ask him for a Penance before you leave. God bless

Purgatory is not in the Bible (original cannon - measure - of scripture). So where did it come from and why? Well, what is known is that after the apostles fell asleep, during a great period of time known as the Dark Ages, people were largely without scripture, and therefore relied on people like the priests to tell them what the Bible said and meant (though it was never in their language during this time, since it was mostly in Latin). It was also during this time that something called "indulgences" came into being. This was where people were literally taught they could buy the souls of their loved ones out of purgatory by giving more to the Roman Catholic Church. This was one major reason for Martin Luther's 95 Theses. Luther knew, being a very educated Bible scholar and teacher, that indulgences were not only not Biblical, but they were actually demonic - a way of members of the Church profiting and pilfering from the ignorance of the poor and uneducated. This one thing Luther hated perhaps the most, and it was based mostly on the false teaching of Purgatory. As it is written in the Bible: "...it is appointed for a man once to die, but after this the judgement" - Hebrews 9:27. "...for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified" - Galatians 2:16. If there is any "penance", it is no more than that which the thief on the cross did by repentance through faith in Jesus Christ alone!
[8] "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast. [10] For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them." - Ephesians 8-10.
Jesus said, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing." - John 15:5. Therefore, our job is solely to abide in the Vine by His grace working through faith. Christ produces the fruit of good works. We do not do these good works for atonement of sins to escape a fictitious "purgatory" not found in the Bible, but we do them inasmuch as Christ gives us life through His blood! For the wages of sin is death (as the Bible says) and nothing we could do on our own could change that; which is why Christ's blood and atonement alone can save us from Hell, which is where all of us will go without trusting in what Jesus already did. This is why it is called the Gospel, or good news, because we are no longer in an impossible situation we cannot get out of - slaves to sin - but are instead slaves to God in Christ whereby we are bound to Him through repentance and trusting in Christ's atonement alone. This is to say, that we who are in Christ are no longer subject to the wages of sin, but to the free gift of God through Christ Jesus, which is the hope of glory in Paradise.

Thank you but you might want to consider the fact that the Church says otherwise.... the Church established by Christ for 2,000 and who Jesus delegated his authority to... not you (no offense). This doctrine has been defined clearly using scripture, such as 1Cor3: 11-15 (purified by fire) and Matt 5:26 (we will pay the last penny) and Sacred Apostolic tradition (not man-made tradition). Like the word Trinity, the word "purgatory" is not in the bible but the Church has held this teaching since the beginning. It wasn't until a "man" changed it 1,500 years later when Martin Luther eliminated it to fit his liking. Do you believe that Luther knew better than the Apostolic tradition of 2,000 years? Neither you nor I have the authority to tell the Church that Christ gave us is wrong and we know better. That type of pride isn't something we want. God bless and keeping you in prayer.

I think the biggest lie in the churches is the teaching that there is no escape from the flesh nature while in the body.
In truth, the flesh has no power over those who have truly been Born Again. The struggle is when people try to conquer their sin by their own power, because they have not received the Holy Spirit:
    Scripture says, Collosians 2:11
"and in Him (Jesus) you were also circumcised with a circumcision performed without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ,"
This tells us that Jesus removes the flesh nature when one is truly reborn.
    Romans 8:9-11 confirms this:
"But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you."
    The Apostle John said:
    1 John 3
"Everyone who sins breaks the law; in fact, sin is lawlessness. But you know that he appeared so that he might take away our sins. And in him is no sin. No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.
Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. The one who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not God’s child, nor is anyone who does not love their brother and sister."
Jude 1:24 agrees with John's teachings:
"Now to him (Jesus) who is able to keep you from stumbling (sinning) and to present you blameless before the presence of his glory with great joy,"
    Scripture also says:
    1 Corinthians 10:13
"No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it."
If your preacher does not talk like God's prophets and apostles, they are a fake.
When the Apostle Paul spoke about his struggles with sin, he was speaking about his past before he received the Holy Spirit, because he also said:
    1 Corinthians 15:34 :
"Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God-I say this to your shame."
Paul also said, "Those who are in the flesh cannot please God." Romans 8;1-8
When Jesus said, "The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak." He had not sent the Holy Spirit yet.
    Jesus told the Pharisees,
"You will die in your sins."
For anyone who dies in their flesh, they are guaranteed to end up in Hell.
    Scripture confirms this:
“For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.” Romans 8:13.
God's grace does not allow us to go on sinning. God's grace changes us. God's grace does not free us to sin. It frees us from sin. Decieved Christians have a false sense of security believing that they can sin until the day they die and still go to heaven, but they don't have faith in the power of the Holy Spirit to free them from the bondage of sin itself. Any notion of the freedom that God offers is quickly discouraged by false churches. There is more money in it for them if they keep their followers in the dark.
There is no doubt, countless Christians who have embraced false doctrine have ended up in Hell.
To deny the power of the Holy Spirit to deliver us from sin so that we can live a righteous life is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit.
    The Apostle Paul said:
"Make every effort to live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord."
    Hebrews 12:14
One who has not been converted to righteousness is not saved.

I really don't think God means for us to become masochists by taking cold showers. It seems it would be better to help someone else with something even if you don't want to help them.

Thank you but both forms are penance. And taking a cold shower is not masochism. God bless

Where is purgatory in the Bible? We cannot get to Heaven by good works. This is what has deceived many Catholics. Truly Jesus says unless one is born again they shall not enter the Kingdom of God

Scripture says nothing with even slightest stain will enter heaven. I don't know too many people, including myself, who fit that category. Do you? The Bible says we must be purified and prepared to see God so you can only hope Purgatory exists or we are in trouble. Jesus forgives our sins like a good father who forgives his son for breaking the window, but a good father also disciplines the son out of love. To let him walk away w/o any responsibility is not love but false mercy and not the way of God. The Bible warns extensively that we need to break our inordinate attachments and only be attached to God to enter heaven. How many people can say that? That is why Purgatory is a purification and a result of God’s mercy. Purgatory is in the bible: 1Cor3: 11-15 (purified by fire) and Matt 5:26 (pay the last penny). Please see passages such as 2 Maccabees 12:41-46 (this book was in the original canon until it was removed by Martin Luther), 2 Timothy 1:18, Matthew 12:32, Luke 16:19-16:26, Luke 23:43, 1 Corinthians 3:11-3:15 and Hebrews 12:29 as support for prayer for purgatorial souls who are believed to be within an active interim state for the dead. If you are Christian, you believe in the Trinity, but the word "Trinity" doesn't appear in the Bible. Then why do you believe in it, which you must if you are a Christian? God bless.

Pennance. Tell the women to do it.
