Thanks so much, Fr. Chris, for expounding INDULGENCES. Love all the benefits we get from it, especially the PLENARY. Though challenging (PLENARY), worthy to do and have it. Love this pious show. Always learning about our Catholic faith.
We must not forget in order to gain any indulgence be it plenary or partial we must ask for them form an intention. Prayer and of course we must be in the state of Grace to gain them .this is good to do in the morning when many of us do the morning offering prayer .🌅⛪🌅
I try to go to confession as often so I can get the indulgences and offer them for people in purgatory even if I get partial is better than none. I think of it this way, the more holy souls from purgatory ascend to heaven the more saints who can pray for us here. God need saints as much as we do. This will make Him happy.
That was so clear Father. I had not understood the plenary indulgences until now. Thank you! It is amazing to think how many souls can be saved this November. Beautiful...🕯️🙏🏿🔥
During Lent this year we were granted an Indulgence from abstaining from meat one Friday for being members of a St. Joseph Parish. This is the year of St. Joseph as declared last December by Pope Francis.
Thank you Father Chris! Great explanation indeed. I just watched the Purgatory earlier. I invited some friends and they all went!😇 We really loved it. So happy to see the Shrine and the Marian Fathers and your talk after the credits. As always, you were so amazing!:))
“When you where dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive in Christ. He forgave yes ALL our sins, having cancelled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us. He has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.” Colossians 2
You are my Shepard on this journey on Earth Father Joseph Alar, lead the way! I’m marching right behind you, even if I have to grab ahold of your chasuble! I’m not letting go!
Father Chris, I go to church every day but a few of us who do not receive hand communion are refused Communion on our tongues so we make a spiritual communion. When any priest friend celebrate a private mass and we attend we do receive Holy Communion on our tongues but not daily.
Dear Marina, God bless you but please be careful of pride. Nothing, including the manner, should prevent us from receiving our Lord. Because the Church gave the indult, even if we don't prefer it, it is not sinful... but willfully choosing to not receive our Lord because we don't like the manner the Church administers may be. God bless.
Fr Chris, is spiritual communion considered valid fulfillment of one of the conditions? As protection from CoVid, we attend masses online for now. Very much look forward to the Oct 30 episode!
I have some questions about plenary indulgence: For example, a man committed several mortal sins in a month. Then, he decides to make a valid sacramental confession. After the confession, he decides to stay in the Blessed Sacrament for 30 minutes, pray the intentions of the pope, receive Jesus in Holy Communion. His intention is to get plenary indulgence. When he goes out of the Adoration Chapel, a car hits him and dies immediately. Questions: 1) Will he go straight to heaven if he dies after getting the plenary indulgence? 2) If he has gained a lot of plenary indulgences in his lifetime but he dies in a state of mortal sin, what will happen to his soul? 3) The Church says that we can get a lot of plenary indulgences (especially for daily communicant and those who frequently confess), if one plenary indulgence is needed to get us to heaven, why do we need to strive to get more indulgences?
Thank you but it depends on the level of detachment from sin. Remember, one of the conditions is that we have no attachment to send even venal. God-bless
But how is it obtained? How do you know if you obtained it? How do you know if you have attachment to sin? Is your plenary void if you failed the no attachment to sin thing and you need to do a now new partial indulgence process or can plenary indulgences become partial simply because of your attachment to sin? What if I sin gravely but still hate that I do and hate sin and want not to do it often praying rosaries or going to confession the next day when I do? How can I say I have no attachment to sin? Is it just a state of complete disgust for all sin in any form in the moments from confession to the completion of the plenary?
Can one confession in 20 days suffice for all the other days one did a plenary indulgence prayer/action ? Or does it need to be one confession for each indulgence prayer/action ?
Thank you Fr Chris beautiful explanation. I had to do a replay. Busy last night didn't want to miss the last show of Purgatory. Most of my friends are asking if they will release the movie again. Will you? God bless you your family and everyone ❤️🙏
God applies the grace to souls of his choice or we can offer the grace for a particular soul. Yes, if we can't get to sacramental communion, we can do a spiritual communion until we are able to return to communion.
if i get a plenary indulgences today, i did not die today, does it mean i need to get another plenary indulgence tmr to get to heaven directly if i die tomorow? What good does the pleanry indulgence i obtained today do to me if i only die tomorrow?
FrC, do we actually have to mention that I'm doing X set of prayers + Confession + Communion to gain plenary indulgence for me or a relative? Coz with all the prayers and daily Mass that I do, it's hard to keep track. Or if I do all of yhe sbove daily/frequently, GAngel can keep track for me? I'm not a naturally organized, logical person. 😁😇
Even with this definition, it still admittedly scandalizes me. I’m having trouble reconciling this and harmonizing this with other beautiful Catholic teachings like sharing in the sufferings of Christ, redemptive suffering, and participatory suffering. Also for others that have had severe temporal punishments this side of heaven (akin to David losing his son) how is that fair compared with someone who has a plenary indulgence.
You must remember that it is not up to us to understand, or try to understand God‘s ways or why he moves the way that he chooses to move within the church. However, that being said, there is also a hierarchy in heaven, and the degree to which we share in Christ suffering here on earth, will be the degree to which we share in his resurrection in heaven. we do not necessarily know exactly how justice works from the hand of God, but we do know that he is perfectly just and when you die, you will completely understand how God is both perfectly merciful, and perfectly just.
In the biblical examples of David and Moses, the temporal punishment was limited to the temporal realm. There is no indication that the punishment continued after their deaths.
@@DivineMercy_Official 1. Pertaining to the Sacrament of Reconciliation, is the forgiveness given in the Absolution contingent upon the completion of the penance? 2. Does the penance satisfy the temporal punishment for the sins absolved, whether mortal or venial, such that there is no purgation required after death until the next sin is committed? 3. Not all indulgences necessarily involve liturgical acts in a Roman Catholic Church or her clergy. For example, a partial indulgence is granted for making the sign of the cross. As a Lutheran, the Roman Church considers my Baptism valid. As Lutherans traditionally do, I also use the sign of the cross in my daily private and family devotions and in the Liturgy. Would the Roman Catholic Church consider me as obtaining partial indulgences through this, among other things?
@@tomboyeptho4389 that's sounds great. Wonderful zeal! Have you first listened to Father Chris' videos on the scriptural basis for the rosary yet? I just noticed them and I'm going to hear first what he has to say, because it's always well to be open to hear both sides of a question. Are you also open to listen to his explanation which are provided through the links? Or perhaps you've already listened to them.
A plenary Indulgence can certainly be done everyday. You could pray the Rosary in a church or with another person, you could do 30 minutes of adoration, you could do 30 minutes of reading scripture, or walking the Stations of the cross. It only has to be one of those or any of the many of the church offers. Also communion is to be done for each plenary Indulgence even if it is the next day. This is explained in the video which you might want to watch cuz I know it is a lot to absorb. God bless
I disagree. In the gospel of st Luke 16:19-31. The story of Lazarus teaches us that after death nothing more can be done to be saved if they were not while alive, as of our purification the bible tells us than (in Romans 3:22, 1st corinth 1:30, Romans 1:7, 2nd Corinth 5:21, and many more allover the bible) that righteousness, purification, cleansing and any kind of acceptance to God comes from Christ alone and no actions taken by man in achievement of this will ever be acceptable to The Righteous and Most Holy God of Israel.
Yes, any baptized Catholic can go to confession..... but you would need a purpose of amendment to forgo living in any kind of sin. God bless, prayers for you.
Absolutely no scripture backs up plenary indulgences or purgatory when taken in context. Nothing unclean will be in heaven and nothing you can do will ever make you clean. It is Jesus who makes you clean and it is only through Jesus , no one else. John 14:6 9:11 praying for the dead ? Come on read the context as the scripture at no time says to pray for the dead . Judas prays for the dead so that they may attain godliness but why did God slay them in the first place? Read the entire context not this cherry picked verse. Forgiveness of sins happens here not in any afterlife. Heb 9:27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, Do you see die once and then a clean up before judgement?
@@ewaldradavich7307 That is true as you point out the problem and they do not go to scripture for the answer as they have been taught the church has the answer and you must believe the church.
It is RC teaching that the particular judgment immediately follows death, those in purgatory are guaranteed heaven, there is no postponed judgment. Sins are not forgiven in purgatory and indulgences have nothing to do with forgiveness, as the video noted. Do a bit of research before critiquing positions.
@@cronmaker2 The problem with what you said here is that there are many Catholics who assume forgiveness of sins in the afterlife as CCC 1031 proclaims. Lots of people praying for souls to get out of purgatory but you say they are judged and into heaven ? Indulgences are relief of temporal punishments that Jesus has already died for, so how are you punished for your sins? Coll 2:9-15 says Jesus has taken that punishment upon Himself ,so which will you believe the RCC or the scriptures? Truly hard to critique something when it is not found in scripture!
@@brucewmclaughlin9072 ccc 1475 addresses your claim "recourse to the communion of saints lets the contrite sinner be more promptly and efficaciously purified of the punishments for sin." Punishment/purification is not the same as guilt/forgiveness. Individuals are judged at death as either being in friendship with God (ie a state of grace, no mortal sin) and thus saved, or not and damned. Some on the former camp may undergo purgatory for purification, but they were already judged and guaranteed heaven. As to your assertion purgatory is not in Scripture, many church fathers disagree (the church didnt start in the 16th century). I do agree it is not in your interpretation if Scripture. But I have no compelling reason to follow your interpretation, let alone consider it authoritative or binding.
@@ewaldradavich7307 Yes I noticed that along with defense of the 7 books that Luther and St. Jerome tried removing. Great to have those additional books but what have they got? Well very little as they have them but don't read them and only quote one of them and out of context as well!
I have a question though I'm not certain how best to phrase it. The world tells us that "venting" our problems is healthy. But we as Catholics know that this is still gossip. How can we break that cycle? How can we stop ourselves? Say for example you have a loved one who keeps leaving the front door unlocked at night because he or she just can't be bothered to pay attention to what they are doing. And you vent about this to a co-worker on a regular basis. How do you stop yourself? (I'm using a totally made up example. Because the action of the person being vented about isn't the issue.) 2nd Question could you maybe have Father Chris do a big talk on Gossip?
Dear Ruth, gossip is based on a lack of charity. The corresponding vice is pride. And the answer to that is humility. Try this litany.... it is a wake up call. God bless www.ewtn.com/catholicism/devotions/litany-of-humility-245
Can a person who has made a total consecration to the Blessed Mother (St Louis De Montfort) gain plenary indulgences for themselves? I understood that all our acts, prayers, reparation and fasting (including indulgence) belong to her to use as she desires. I am happy to give them to her, but I am just curious if my understanding is correct. Thank you for your teaching Fr Chris.

I need all the plenary and partial indulgences I can get. I have a pdf of a text called the "Manual of Indulgences" or such. One plenary a day, several partials s day. I don't think there's a limit on the indulgences for those in purgatory.
Just a question. I live alone but I say the Rosary with the help of UA-cam. Is the Priest saying the Rosary count as another person?? Thank you for your time. 🙂
The consequence of sin is death.. that is it. There is no "oh you lied to your pastor so that's a year of lashings and THEN you go to the father", the consequence of sin is DEATH. Spiritual DEATH. Jesus washed us CLEAN in His name, if you enter judgement day while remaining in HIM, then you are ALREADY CLEAN. Catholics put these things together in their own minds trying to understand God and how the afterlife makes sense- in turn, making them think they know better than God. THE PUNISHMENT FOR SIN IS DEATH. No "indulgence" can save another human being from DEATH. Jesus PAID THE FINE OF SIN, WHICH IS DEATH. EVE ATE OF THE FRUIT AND LIED TO GOD, WHICH IS PUNISHED WITH DEATH.

Will that one (1) Confession "stick" for those 6 days, granted that I was in a state of grace? 2) Plenary indulgence(s)....how much is enough and how much do we actually need? Just to let you know that when I was finally sprayed as a precaution for bedbugs around 12:25 pm I had a friend drive me to the post office to mail my House Blessing registry. I meant to mail it sooner but when I put it away in one of my desk drawers, when getting my apartment ready for last month's spray I thought I lost because I found it again just yesterday. So hopefully it will get to you before November 12.
I don't know about you, Fr. Chris, but I have to the rest of my apartment cleaned up considering that I've been awake since 4:30am.

Thanks so much, Fr. Chris, for expounding INDULGENCES. Love all the benefits we get from it, especially the PLENARY. Though challenging (PLENARY), worthy to do and have it. Love this pious show. Always learning about our Catholic faith.
Thank you for joining us.....
We must not forget in order to gain any indulgence be it plenary or partial we must ask for them form an intention. Prayer and of course we must be in the state of Grace to gain them .this is good to do in the morning when many of us do the morning offering prayer .🌅⛪🌅
Yes, that is exactly correct.....
We have to receive Communion the same day as the Indulgence?
I try to go to confession as often so I can get the indulgences and offer them for people in purgatory even if I get partial is better than none. I think of it this way, the more holy souls from purgatory ascend to heaven the more saints who can pray for us here. God need saints as much as we do. This will make Him happy.
God bless your generosity

During Lent this year we were granted an Indulgence from abstaining from meat one Friday for being members of a St. Joseph Parish. This is the year of St. Joseph as declared last December by Pope Francis.

God bless.
Full Plenary indulgence sureness to Heaven's yeahhaa,.. Thank you God🙏👑🌟☀🤸♀
Fr Chris, is spiritual communion considered valid fulfillment of one of the conditions? As protection from CoVid, we attend masses online for now. Very much look forward to the Oct 30 episode!
Yes, Marichu, if we cannot receive sacramental Communion, we do a spiritual communion with the intent to go to communion when next available.
@@DivineMercy_Official What consolation! Thank you for the reply and assurance.
I have some questions about plenary indulgence:
For example, a man committed several mortal sins in a month.
Questions:
1) Will he go straight to heaven if he dies after getting the plenary indulgence?
2) If he has gained a lot of plenary indulgences in his lifetime but he dies in a state of mortal sin, what will happen to his soul?
3) The Church says that we can get a lot of plenary indulgences (especially for daily communicant and those who frequently confess), if one plenary indulgence is needed to get us to heaven, why do we need to strive to get more indulgences?
Thank you but it depends on the level of detachment from sin. Remember, one of the conditions is that we have no attachment to send even venal. God-bless
What does it mean to have no attachment to sin and how do we do that?
Hi Fr Chris. Thank you for your sharing. I have a question... do we need a priest alongside with us when we do our indulgences? Thanks in advance.
No, we can do any any indulgences on our own.
First heard about it in the movie Dogma.
Thank you….continuing to fall in love with Our Lord…(love..act of Will) ❤️🩹🙏🏾
Okay Father, what do you mean by BEING ATTACKED TO A VENIAL SIN????? PLEASE EXPLAIN!!!!!!!
Thank you, yes, one confession suffices for all indulgences done in a 20-day period as long as you're in a state of grace. God bless
@@DivineMercy_Official thank you! God bless you! This was incredibly edifying!
Thank you Fr Chris beautiful explanation. I had to do a replay. Busy last night didn't want to miss the last show of Purgatory. Most of my friends are asking if they will release the movie again. Will you? God bless you your family and everyone ❤️🙏

Does a spiritual communion work for this? How do we use the plenary indulgences for those in purgatory, without know the souls.
Hi fr. Chris,
So penance is the same as the plenary indulgence?
Thank you
No
im confused, if we are to have no attachment to venial sin, what are we to confess in confession?
Sins can happen every day that are not attachments.
@@DivineMercy_Official what does attachment of sins?
FrC, do we actually have to mention that I'm doing X set of prayers + Confession + Communion to gain plenary indulgence for me or a relative? Coz with all the prayers and daily Mass that I do, it's hard to keep track. Or if I do all of yhe sbove daily/frequently, GAngel can keep track for me? I'm not a naturally organized, logical person. 😁😇
No, just ask to receive the grace each day.... No need to state all you will do. God bless.
Father, when we pray the Tosary and offer it for the Pope's intentions, do we still have to add the extra Our Father, Hail Mary and Glory Be?
@@JoeSwingleIII I love this answer brother. Ps I just became Catholic during Easter Vigil. Please pray for me 🙏
@@JasonoftheCross I will brother
In the biblical examples of David and Moses, the temporal punishment was limited to the temporal realm. There is no indication that the punishment continued after their deaths.

@@DivineMercy_Official What does the church teach concerning the souls in purgatory whose purification is incomplete on the Last Day?
@@B27-o2c all purification will be completed by the last day
@@DivineMercy_Official

I just noticed them and I'm going to hear first what he has to say, because it's always well to be open to hear both sides of a question. Are you also open to listen to his explanation which are provided through the links? Or perhaps you've already listened to them.
So a person must have plenary indulgence even thought he confess long time ago or every time confess his /her mortal sin.
Is this in our Catechism? Where?
I’m a little confused. So you have to receive Communion the day of your indulgence? The how can you do a Plenary indulgence everyday ?
A plenary Indulgence can certainly be done everyday. You could pray the Rosary in a church or with another person, you could do 30 minutes of adoration, you could do 30 minutes of reading scripture, or walking the Stations of the cross. It only has to be one of those or any of the many of the church offers. Also communion is to be done for each plenary Indulgence even if it is the next day. This is explained in the video which you might want to watch cuz I know it is a lot to absorb. God bless
@@DivineMercy_Official thank you 🙏. I was just confused on when to take communion. I understand. Thank you agaIn
Interesting

Can someone who is divorced and now has a civil marriage (for 20. + years) go to confession?
Yes, any baptized Catholic can go to confession..... but you would need a purpose of amendment to forgo living in any kind of sin. God bless, prayers for you.
Absolutely no scripture backs up plenary indulgences or purgatory when taken in context. Nothing unclean will be in heaven and nothing you can do will ever make you clean. It is Jesus who makes you clean and it is only through Jesus , no one else. John 14:6
9:11 praying for the dead ? Come on read the context as the scripture at no time says to pray for the dead . Judas prays for the dead so that they may attain godliness but why did God slay them in the first place? Read the entire context not this cherry picked verse. Forgiveness of sins happens here not in any afterlife. Heb 9:27 Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,
Do you see die once and then a clean up before judgement?
Sounds contradictory. Is not forgiveness if there was a punishment.

I need all the plenary and partial indulgences I can get. I have a pdf of a text called the "Manual of Indulgences" or such. One plenary a day, several partials s day. I don't think there's a limit on the indulgences for those in purgatory.

Thank you for your time. 🙂
That is a good question Stella. Yes, right now the Church is offering indulgences by joining to pray the Rosary via online media.
@@DivineMercy_Official Great 😀😀 Another reason to say the Rosary 💖💖
Paul said some sin is deadly and some sin is not deadly
