Marko! - with "The Beast" - custom made for him - bass and guitar. In the official video, Nightwish is so hot that the campfire sits around them! Lucky I like weasels! and they did come back before the end!
Marko's double neck , The Beast, is a custom Warwick Infinity bass , Framus Panthera guitar combo. Very heavy and very expensive. Troy is playing his Irish Low Whistle. The 2nd spoken part roughly translates to "If I play the chorus, you're gonna sing along, right?" - "Yeah!" - "Are you sure?" - "Yeah!" - "Ok, let's do it" Marko wrote the music with his first band ,Tarot. It didn't fit with them. Tuomas heard him playing it one day, decided it would make a great song, and wrote the lyrics about a lonely lighthouse keeper. From the 2007 Dark Passion Play album. Glad the weasels came back. LOL. Marko has an awesome voice, plus Floor's backing vocals. They sound, and always have, so good together. So , Coach, a couple songs ,with Marko on lead vocals ,that you should like are the Nightwish cover/tribute of Pink Floyd's High Hopes(live Helsinki 2005, End of an Era DVD). And also "Wings Of Darkness" by Tarot.

"Sea shanty" might be the descriptive term you were looking for early on. The theme of the lyrics is what is most beautiful in this song. It expresses contrasts between the joys in life mixed with the "crosses one has to bear" along the way. It culminates with a depiction of the simultaneous yet contradictory feelings one would experience at death: the fear and sadness at the loss of everything coupled with a feeling of warm, inner peace and relief at the letting go of all life's crosses. While this live performance is widely considered by fans as the most beautiful because it spotlights Marco's extreme talent, the "Official Vid" is also worth watching as an adjunct. The movie-like story imagery behind the music makes this theme clear. We see an old, crusty sea captain who walks along the rocky "sea bottom," struggling and stumbling as he drags his ship along behind him by a rope over his shoulder leading up to the ship which seems to float in the air above. This imagery makes the "Christ dragging his cross" metaphor very obvious, IMHO. At the end, he reaches the edge of a large cliff at which he sits and lets his ship drift off without him to destinations unknown, with the anchor rope dangling free as it floats away. As he watches it recede, the stern, melancholy facial expression melts away into a warm, peaceful smile. Worth checking out.

I remember working in my dad's bar in my teens. We had a well known blues musician playing for weeks. If you want to listen to Marko's voice at its best listen to the Nightwish tribute to Pink Floyd "High Hopes" (live 2005). By the way, Floor still misses Marko very much. You can hear this when listening to interviews with Floor. Their voices together had been a "match made in heaven" and they had been good friends for many years. For Floor he had been some kind of "older brother".Troy also has a beautiful voice but totally different from Marko's voice; it is not a metal voice but a soft folk voice. But I also love their latest album "Yesterwynde" (without Marko) where Floor and Troy sing together in some songs. The song "Sway" where Floor's and Troy's voices blend is really beautiful, but my favourites are "Lanternlight" and "Ocean of strange islands".
I would actually suggest a band called Sabaton! The singer of Nightwish is married to the drummer, and they focus on military history. A song I would suggest would be "The Red Baron"!
I warmly suggest that you react to Wintersun - Silver Leaves. Finnish metal, last song of a 2 album project over 12 years. Mrs Coach would probably enjoy the ride... so is Mr. Coach. ;-)
Nah Coach, I'm gonna have to side with Mrs Coach on this one, she likes this song and doesn't like the Blues, you're the reverse, gonna have to say it's your hearing that's a bit defective, but it's ok, we won't hold it against you, lol.
haha, yeah Coach, I'm like you the heavier the better, now if you want a good one you have to try their opener for Wembley "Shudder before the Beautiful", gotta love those "Daisy Duke" shorts. LOL AND if you want their BEST METAL one (in my opinion) you gotta listen to "Master Passion Greed", The lyrics are a little harsh cause it ties into the "Poet" situation and it's way before Floor, but it's the best, guaranteed you'll love it. Damn I miss Marco.
Might have been better if Coach didn't know going in that this was a slower song...might have preemptively biased him on it. He "knew" he wasn't going to like it, so he didn't...or not🤔
Bit confused here. You say you don't like slow songs but you love the Blues. A good proportion of Blues songs are slow so do you not like them, if you do like them your logic seems flawed.???
Marko killin' it A guy with Viking heritage singin' a sea shanty. Next stop Valhalla. One of his best, with Floor doin' Floor stuff. Awesome song. That double neck is one beautiful piece of equipment. This song taught me to listen for Kai's subtleties he throws in with his base. As much fun Jukka was to watch on his kit and he was an awesome drummer, Kai isn't as animated as Jukka but he's every bit as good a drummer. Coach, no need to apologize. There are Nightwish songs I don't care for also. It's what makes us all who we are. What's better than that. Check "My Walden" and "Sleeping Sun" - Coach Sleeping Sun isn't for you but Mrs. Coach will love it. It's one of their oldies but one of their very best. Tarja sang it first. It was her version that introduced me to Nightwish maybe 10 years ago. I remembered it and then I found the Nightwish Wachen concert 3+ years later and I've been hooked ever since. Floor's version at this concert is off the charts W O W.
❤This was/is one of the best NW concerts ever. Also the "warm up" / special guest bands were/are amazing. And in my home town, Tampere.❤. You are right about the boredom when/if everybody likes the same bands/songs. However unfortunately these days like 90% of the reaction channels have about the same 20 bands/artists each. Give you some perspective there are about 7000 metal bands in Finland & Sweden alone. So you should have enough variety but I guess people just don't know and that's why we have so boring music scene. One of the worst periods of music industry and worst generation of music "consumers".
Same concert Weak Fantasy. When Marko and Floor sing 🤩 Also Kai on drums 💥 Greetings from Finland 🇫🇮

Nightwish is not liking Donald Trump. Marko Hieatala has much to say about DJT.
Bit confused here. You say you don't like slow songs but you love the Blues. A good proportion of Blues songs are slow so do you not like them, if you do like them your logic seems flawed.???
For lack of a better explanation blues has a feeling, a soul, to it. Most slower ballad type songs lack that soul.
Thanks for the wonderful comment!
Cool that you are from there, and that's crazy there are so many bands just in this genre.
🇬🇧 Norfolk reports for duty just look at the guitar called the beast mr coach and love the song more 😊
