Its not that they fail. Rubber gasket is no longer elastic and becomes brittle and cracks. Some leak around 100k some 150k. I have a 2013 Q5 with 246k miles and still original gasket 🤯
@@speedlinegarage the shop overfill oil and few days later it started leaking really bad.. I drained it to check how much they filled and I got about 6.7 quart.. in a 2.0 engine.. that explains the leak I just have to find it exactly where... Thank you for replying 🤝
I have oil in my coolant, but no coolant in my oil. I am wondering if its possible that my oil cooler is bad and not a blown head gasket. can anyone help me know the possibility of it being the oil cooler vs my head gasket?
I have a 2013 audi q5 2.0t and recently it said add coolant but no overheating, i checked it was full and brown looking. The car now does not start maybe preventing further damage cause i drove it there. Im worried hopefully it’s fixible. I have to get it towed to a euro shop. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
So do these cars come with a oil cooler stock? Because I seen one just like yours on Amazon, I thought it was an upgrade for cooling the oil.. So with that being said if I'm not having any issues don't touch it?
Radiator is your coolant cooler. Oil cools with coolant going through oil cooler. Thats why its important to service those gaskets or it will leak / mix fluids
It is very involved job so labor costs would be high for $15 part. I suggest finding indi euro specialty shop and have them do it. Job like this would cost around $1600-1800 at my shop and in the process would replace water-pump and thermostat
@@speedlinegarage removing the intake manifold. I just don’t think it’s easier to remove the alternator and then have to put it back on and the accessory belt. Just more of a pain.
@@speedlinegarage that makes sense if that’s a part that you need to replace. I thought you were just replacing the oil cooler, which is a job I’m doing today.
I have this exactly leak and mechanic wants $1000. Thank you so much for helping people. Great video you made . Very specific and smart person . God bless
went straight to the issue and showed us what is the problem well done!!
How common is it for oil housing to leak or cooler? If that is oil all over both which one is would you blame?

Next thing will be a coolant leak, Definitely not the proper way to do it😮
@@Oliviernycllc 1 year later and no leaks 🤷🏻♂️. Whats your way of doing it?

very high chance for audi q5, oil coolers are part of wear and tear. same thing just happened to mine.
That’s crazy that’s what I’m going thru currently I just bought a cooler ima try myself. I wish he would showed step by step

Yes they are stock. I suggest replacing gaskets around 90-100k
@@speedlinegarage Great to know, I'll get that replaced I'm at 84k so very soon, thanks.
is the oil cooler and the coolant cooler the same part?

This is the worst howto ever. Nothing like starting the video after you've removed it.....
its the best video ever, if you are mechanic you already know how to take anything apart
Love the video, How
Did the oil look different (color) or just noticed by dipstick excess oil. Thanks
No we replaced it preventatively while in there
Thank you
I have to replace the oil cooler in my 2010 a4. Any special tools required ??
Typical Torx and Triple Square sockets mainly

Or do it yourself? I did it in an s4 with way less room
Calling removing the alternator the easy way is wild
How else would you get to it? 🤔

@@JordanBlue1 you have to remove alternator to get to the oil filter housing gasket since alternator is mounted on the bracket that holds everything

Bro I don’t have the union when I took my oil cooler off to my water pump
That’s impossible. You would have spilled all your coolant as soon as you started the car. What model is your car?
It probably fell in somewhere and you missed it!
Thank you for this video. Just saw that I had an oil leak in this area too
Welcome hope that helps
