  • I've been back from vacation for a few days. Feeling pretty good. So I decided to turn the AC on in the train room and run a train on the rescue layout.

    It’s good to get a way of our daily routines and lives from time to time. It’s like we need a restart. Glad you had a good vacation and got back safely. I feel like the heat makes us feel like we do sometime. Thanks for sharing. Have a good week. 😎😎👍

      Thanks Tommy. I definitely needed the reset. Work has had me really beat down lately.

    It's good to see the rescue layout again.

    Operations on a model railroad can be very absorbing and fun. But, there is also a certain feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction watching your trains run seamlessly over that joint, turnout, or particular troublesome section that was hell to fix. It's almost Zen-like.

      There was definitely a lot of that post repair satisfaction.

    Sometimes its just good to run some trains. I wouldn’t worry about the viewership, I think you are correct about why (although I hate the summer so I’m happy to be indoors running trains). Sounds like we are around the same age, and I’ve happily given up all my videogames and feel so much better for it (I am a tabletop gamer and in IT too, but I love the fact that our hobby has so much physical old school skill use)). On the bringing people in issue, when I lived in Nova Scotia I belonged to as group where we used the bendtrack standard for our show layout so we were all “outside” the railroad so we could talk to the public unlike so many layouts where the club are all inside like they are in prison!

      I've done a bunch of tabletop over the years as well. Played a BUNCH of Battletech, some D&D, and observed plenty of Warhammer 40k. I've looked into some of the local clubs. They're just a bit too far away from where I live for me to reliably get over there to work on stuff, learn how to do stuff, etc. lol.

    That is the best Bachmann N-scale set, they have dual flywheels.I bought 3.

      It is a very good set. Especially if you can find them on sale.

    I think I just might order it then concentrate on getting just the Kato track with controller kit with no train would you know what train line ran through the hill country or the lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas

    • @Trains-With-Shane
      @Trains-With-Shane  Рік тому

      I know MKT ran down towards that area but not sure how far. Santa Fe, Texas and Pacific, and possibly others but not too sure. Depends on the timeframe.

    • @jodyblackwell9012
      @jodyblackwell9012 Рік тому

      MKT and Santa fe be easy to find in N scale don't know about Texas Pacific .

    Hi Shane I know you said skip the sets but do go with Kato track do I find a Kato track set with out trains and controller and what locomotive would you suggest for me I'm on a very rigid limited budget I need to stay under 3 digits if possible .

    • @Trains-With-Shane
      @Trains-With-Shane  Рік тому

      Well. on a strict budget the Bachmann Stallion or Thunder Valley set is hard to beat as it comes complete with track, train, and controller and it'll be the least expensive thing out there being around $100 complete on Amazon right now. Kato sets are more expensive. You can get their basic "M1" oval track set with power supply for just under $100 but then you still need to fork out money for a locomotive and cars. If you can push the budget to closer to $200 Kato has a Santa Fe Super Chief set that comes complete with track, controller, locomotive, and a few cars.

      I think I'm going to save up some to go Kato not to keen on Bachmann track or controllers I won't be getting anything until I get back from Costa Rica in December. Thank you for the help your a good person.

      @@jodyblackwell9012 Thanks Jody, I try. Yeah for me spending the extra for the Kato set is definitely the way to go. Their controllers are fun to use as well due to how they set up the knob and reverser.

    Hi Shane yes I eventually would like to go DCC, but for now DC will be good so a new Bachmann DC unit for 80.00 would be ok to invest in?

    • @Trains-With-Shane
      @Trains-With-Shane  Рік тому

      If you shop around you can probably get an entire Bachmann set for $100. I would do that before paying $80 for just a locomotive. Amazon has them in stock

    • @jodyblackwell9012
      @jodyblackwell9012 Рік тому

      I just don't care for their track and controller I'd rather go Kato for that

    • @Trains-With-Shane
      @Trains-With-Shane  Рік тому

      @@jodyblackwell9012 Fair enough. But you're basically getting the power supply, track, and 3 pieces of rolling stock for the extra $20. PRetty good deal to have a separate test track setup if you need it.
      So. Bachmann at $80 is good but like i always say shop around. For instance there is a Kato N scale E9A. Union Pacific, on sale on Amazon for $74 with free shipping. So if you don't mind a nice Union Pacific E unit then that would be the thing to buy. Just have to make sure you've got at least 9 inch radius curves because it's 6-axle.

    Indeed, there are girls who watch these videos...😉 From that generation of the 80s who rescued a 1:160 scale train from their parents...😉😉 and who know how to differentiate between the locomotives and the commuter trains they have circulated through the lines of their towns... here in Europe.. In a tribute to their parents... But they are somewhat ashamed, if it is understandable to be a fan of "Princess Leia" or "Lord Of The Rings"... until and all from scale model classic cars..; But so far not so much in the world of scale trains...
