Interesting to see another M560 in the wild. Mine uses M6 for toolchange. G116 starts the rotating tool touch off cycle. Pro tip, hold down interlock release and press set position to bring the machine home. I use this all time when I'm dialing in my first part.

@@derick3482 Thanks for the clarification. Though, in fairness to Jason, I don't think he bought the Okuma just to showcase.
I always appreciate different viewpoints, as do many people. I would encourage you to post more videos on your channel, esp about Okuma programming, quirks, etc. 😀

Thanks for all you do … i will be taking the dive in a year or so on a machine and starting in my garage. I am converting a mini mill and lathe to initiate myself then onto converting or upgrading a cnc. Knee mill then onto a lathe conversion and that i have interesting ideas for but first and foremost i want the ability to make larger parents with the lathe i convert … not for production more for prototype

If you ever get an alarm during a tool change. There is a way to use hand wheel through tool change one click at a time through the tool change. Pretty slick! milltronics you have to use a wrench and a second person to catch the tool.
I believe in mdi you just have to do T1 etc. cycle start and call up any tool you want

Great machine! Pro TIp - replace the lock line on the tool setter with hard line. The supplied line fills with coolant and the added inertia of coolant being expelled when the air turns on swings the lock line out of position.

You can get the spindle ground in the machine. Just take a vice off to have a bare and perfect table surface for them to set the grinder on. Just make sure your spindle bolts are good and tight. My shop has it done every now and then and it works wonders. They can kiss the inside of it until it’s cleaning up all the way around

Have looked at this machine a few times over the years. Nobody was able to explain the control. Hence why we never bought one. Okuma needs you badly.

I like your content overall. I am really into tooling. I am an old guy and I can tell you from 47 years of machining and 24 years of CNC experience. Tooling is like ammunition. If You have a wide variety of tooling You can usually get the jobs done relatively quick.

Question. On simultaneous 5 axis machining, what would the Haas UMC750 have over your setup in this video? Granted, there is a work envelope differences, but overall, do you think there is a major speed & accuracy difference that would be a night/day decision maker between purchasing one of these machines over the other? Thx!

I’m curious why you chose a haas VM over the UMC 500, are they not right around the same price once rigged up for 5 axis and a trunnion plus a few repetitive option?
Did you see a benefit to the VM?
Thanks for the content. Always appreciate the down time earth tone. Your perpetual learning comment really hit me today, I’ve found myself in the learning spiral when I should be in the push new product mode.

The UMC 500 are notorious for not being very accurate...a vmc with a 5th axis rotary gives a lot more options...

Good video guy! I have ran Fanuc controls for 15+ years and we just bought a brand new Okuma MCR-A5CII (big ole girl) and it's a whole new animal for me to learn! And the week of training we got with the manufacturer I think there was alot more to be learned than what they showed us. Do you know of any videos or Facebook groups that might be helpful on more tips and tricks to the new OSP control and maybe some I-MAP demos and those sorts of things and additional probing tips.

This is true. A Okuma rep said at day of installation, you can run the spindle 15,000 rpm non-stop for 3 years in their warranty. 😊
