The smaller shops you visit remind me of Lakota Racing in Carrollton OH. They are a small machine shop that work on small high output motors for Garden tractors and other small equipment. We’ve taken our motors there for over 10 years and everytime I’m up there I visit my buddy Ross in the shop watching their cnc machines. Coming from a carpenter with our cncs it makes watching his that much more interesting. Quite a few machines they have packed into a very small shop with a high output
As a carpenter - much of this machining goes way beyond what I do but the ethic and principals you covered are universal. Many of my tools are German, their engineering is amazing and to see us doing this caliber of work here is reassuring. The joy and passion for your work will carry you through a long and successful career. The most important section of this video for me was your emphasis on the packaging and protection of the parts and pieces. The average person will never know the effort that went into the production but they will 100% understand the care in the packaging. Thank you Titans!
This warms my heart to see these shops in the USA doing such good work. I was a design engineer my entire carrier and worked closely with shops in house and out of house. I was saddened when the push came to go overseas. I used all my influence to keep it here. I told the bean counters to put their eyes on the bigger picture for our nation, but they were greedy. Their greed hurt our nation immensely. Also you get what you pay for. A decision to save money actually cost us dearly as the time and energy needed to deal with useless parts. Keep up these videos, they are a great testimony of what really makes America strong and productive.

“a world of outsourced junk"? I do not believe the bosses of all levels are stupid. The latest news says US is going to outsource military ships built and maintained overseas. Bringing back manufacturing is easy said than done. Nobody hates profit and that's the drive of capitalism.
Rob from East Valley Precision echoes my life in Plymouth UK, I started my job shop with just 3 machines in a 3,000 sq ft work shop, I'm retired now but it brought great memories to me, Thanks Titan fro spreading the word and bringing manufacturing home. There is a line in wealth creation, from the ground, where all wealth comes from to powering the country, taking wealth from the soil, making something with it and selling it, you cannot break that line

Arizona boy here. Well, I'm really a retired old man now but, I don't know how I missed this video earlier. Good to know you were in town. I ran a one-man custom auto interior shop for over thirty years. I had to learn CNC milling and lathe work because alot of the vintage automobiles I worked on were hard to find replacement parts for, and having someone else fabricate them for me was crazy expensive. I had to learn G-Code and milling in general on my mill, lathe or my 3D printers. It was learning through trial and error; mostly error. I sold my machines after retiring because I thought I wouldn't be needing them anymore. Boy was I wrong. Now I'm looking to get some desktop CNC machines just to have on hand.
Really a great video! Thanks so much for visiting shops in Arizona! During the last 6-8 months I’ve been looking to find employment here in the east valley of Phoenix in the manufacturing industry. I think probably my age has something to do with not being offered employment at most companies I’ve applied. I was involved in machining for 50 years and had the opportunities to work for many companies that were leaders in their product lines. I’ve been retired for about 7 years and really miss the smell of cutting oils and the rumble of the machinery making chips. Most of all I miss the hands on adjustments of the machines and the satisfaction of making something for the customer. I would enjoy working nights, but it’s very hard to find a position for me at this time. BUT I won’t give up exploring the many opportunities here in the valley of the sun! This industry is full of opportunities. Back in 2007, I had the pleasure of working with John at Lincoln Laser. John was one of the most influential people in my young machining career, he taugh me many principles that I teach to my young machinists. Now, I am an engineer at that very Amphenol Aerospace.

I used to live right down the road from Amphenol but had absolutely no idea that they existed. I run the Machine Shop for NAU now up in Flagstaff while I am finishing my Master's / PhD in Mechanical Engineering. It is a smaller shop but I get to run a lot of first iteration parts for the capstone students and it has really helped me realized how much I love the manufacturing side of engineering. I might see if they need some Manufacturing Engineers at Amphenol when I am done with my degree. If you find yourself in northern Arizona, you should visit our shop as well. As it is a school-based shop, I would have to get the go ahead from the Mechanical Engineering department to give a tour but I doubt that would be difficult.
This may not be a huge deal to some people, but the fact that there is a guy there with more artwork on his skin than in an art museum, to me is just awesome!! The fact that such a prestigious company can overlook how someone "looks", and employ them based upon their skills, says a lot to me. I understand not everyone likes tattoos, and has their opinions on them. Some may think it's not "professional" of that guy, and or the company to allow it. It's perfectly fine if anyone disagrees with me. Place your comments in the space provided for you to say so. I'm talking about the machine shop they went to first, Amphenol.

I can relate to Rob. My boss would say I don't have to work at home. Commissioning a process facility is not an easy job. For me it was fun. I could never turn that switch off. Even after 4 years there was always something to improve. How about a facility in Lake Havasu. Commercial property at the airport. 19 miles from I40. The condition of the facility. The work stations. I can tell Rob is passionate about process and environment.

I have worked on 2 CNC machine and I thought that I have the world after watching Amphenol company I was shocked baby , that's will push me up to have a more of a CNC machines
I lived in Phoenix Az. for almost 20 years and purchased from a variety of machine shops in the valley and I've never heard of these guys. One thing is for sure if you're a big shop you must keep lotts work running through it to keep the doors open. In tough times heads roll and equipment is idle. Smaller shops tended to be more flexible with very low overheads and usually survived economic down swings.
I dont think about it when i get home..you tend to over think it. The answer usually wakes you up in the middle of the night, then you just cant wait to get back it in the morning..Its called workaholism. Not a disease,but a passion. I love this stuff.
As a teenagerI worked in a machine shop in the 70’s. Used Bridgeports and South Bend lathes - all manual piece work. Have to say one of the best jobs I’ve ever had.
I worked in machining for 25 years really loved doing that, would still be working at it, if I could find a shop that would have hired me. I was more into making fixtures and jigs for the shop, called a tool maker. I also worked at a local College teaching machining technology for 12 years

I used to work at Mazak UK in Worcester and ever since I left to become a HGV driver I regret that career change as I had an accident causing my lower back to be fused together. If I had never decided to change career my back I'm sure would still be OK to this day. I loved making intricate parts and making new programmes to cut production times down etc. To all the people thinking of engineering as a career I would recommend it as it is a fantastic industry to be part of and the job satisfaction is awesome. One of the best projects my team were involved in was making a clog for Nike in Holland to show them what our machines were capable of, we found out secretly through someone the size of the visiting director was and made a clog out of aluminium with the Nike emblem on which he thought was absolutely brilliant 😂🎉
My company in Florida is less than 20 people. Mainly circuit boards and surge protection, but we've been expanding with mills and laser cutters and 3D printing. Great video!
I know of Amphenol from their vacuum tube sockets and electrical connectors, I had no idea they were a huge company that makes so many different things.

Titans of CNC i love your videos! Always spreading the passsion and the knoledge of being a machinist. I am a qualified Turner Machinist in South africa, pretty fresh to be honest. And last year in January i got the opportunity in to work on a CNC milling machine and on a CNC horizontal Lathe. Unfortunatly theres no one on the workshop that is specialized in CNC machining. So i had to learn by my own. And your videos helped me out a lot! I still got toooooo much to learn but i hope one day to be on the level that you guys are at the moment! Best of regards!

Love the first story. It's inspiring. I work at a 2-man job shop. I'm in talks with the owner to acquire the business. He's retired and inherited it from his father. He doesn't need it or really what it.... I have plans big plans for me. They can completely change my life.
been in business for a LOOOONG time. when phenolic resins were a popular choice of plastic... making components, not the end product. RCA, GE, along with countless others that specialised in end products have flourished and fallen... but keep making those lil plastic thingies they ALL need regardless? someone is always going to be willing to pay. amazing when you look around you and see that nearly every item in view has some connection to this plant... "connection" being the key word ;)
I'm not sure I'd ever want to work for a HUGE shop. I like the fact that the owner of the shop knows me and asks my thoughts/opinions on how things are going. At some point that connection is just lost.

I think of Amphenol military electrical connectors. There was/is another company named Cannon that make same connectors. They are military standard, so others probably make too.

Honestly, if I had a choice to work in a large company or a small workshop, I would definitely choose the small workshop. The atmosphere there is similar to that of home and family. You learn the most in smaller shops :D more freedom , no serial parts always hot jobs and 1 up to 5 piece sets. I would never work in a big automated company where you're only allowed to press start.
In a small company there is much more responibility resting at each worker. 1 worker doing something wrong, it can affect the economy of the company to a muh larger degree than in a big company. Some like better to work in big companies, other in small. Pluss and minuses with both

And last year in January i got the opportunity in to work on a CNC milling machine and on a CNC horizontal Lathe. Unfortunatly theres no one on the workshop that is specialized in CNC machining. So i had to learn by my own. And your videos helped me out a lot! I still got toooooo much to learn but i hope one day to be on the level that you guys are at the moment! Best of regards!

Amphenol has been around forever, famous in electronics. Been using their stuff since the 80's.
If you've ever worked on an aircraft you've probably used their connectors.
We used a lot of Amphenol MIL circular connectors building satellite ground stations in the 60s.
I thought it was weird when guys were coming up for pictures with him but then i remembered he technically got me into machining in the first place hahaha

I'm not sure I'd ever want to work for a HUGE shop. I like the fact that the owner of the shop knows me and asks my thoughts/opinions on how things are going. At some point that connection is just lost.

I think of Amphenol military electrical connectors.
There was/is another company named Cannon that make same connectors.
They are military standard, so others probably make too.

Honestly, if I had a choice to work in a large company or a small workshop, I would definitely choose the small workshop. The atmosphere there is similar to that of home and family. By the way, nice to see your workshop Mr. John. Finally I saw you in a video. Keep working, my friend. You can achieve a lot BOOM 💥
You learn the most in smaller shops :D more freedom , no serial parts always hot jobs and 1 up to 5 piece sets.
I would never work in a big automated company where you're only allowed to press start.

In a small company there is much more responibility resting at each worker. 1 worker doing something wrong, it can affect the economy of the company to a muh larger degree than in a big company. Some like better to work in big companies, other in small. Pluss and minuses with both
