The Witcher 3's "Permit" side quest is a nod to Asterix & Obelix's "The Twelve Tasks of Asterix". I loved seeing this easter egg and its one of the most memorable moments from the asterix movies which I still reference to this day (they were pretty popular here in europe, when I grew up)
The twelve tasks of Asterix & Obelix, is a reference to Franz Kafka' literature, more specifically "The Trial". A man is on a trial for an unknown reason (or no reason) and is slowly consumed by a bureaucratic nightmare, to a point where he thinks he's guilty without knowing of what (if I remember right). The French use "kafkaesque" as an adjective to describe situations so absurd, that they make you feel like going in circle and going slowly mad. The Asterix & Obelix reference aims to ridicule the French administration that is very well known to be kafkaesque like in the Witcher's quest. At the time, it was a pretty strong move for a product read by both children an adults. Also, CD Projekt is from Poland, a country somewhat marked by the communist Eastern block years and its strong bureaucracy. Most are probably educated on Kafka's work, as well as very familiar to the Asterix & Obelix comics. It's actually crazily amazing how a concept/idea from a cultural monument, can be reproduced and evolve over so many years to land in a video game.

Could’ve just been a cutscene. There’s literally no fun in playing through sequences like this. It reminds me of those horrific Mary Jane missions in Spider-Man which were about as fun as being kicked in the nuts by a horse.
I don't know how many hours of lists with Falcon I've watched at this point, love the channel, love the man. Mafia Definitive Edition is such a good game. I remember the Don Saliere mission
The tank mission was awesome in BF3. But I definitely think the FA-18 mission was more realistic. That mission is probably one of my favorite all time out of any game.
-when taking out the SAMs, you were right on top of them. IRL, you’d neutralize them from a significantly further distance with the HARM as it has a range of over 60 miles. Additionally, most blocks/iterations/models of the AGM-88 HARM are fire and forget weapons. IRL, you’d be dead if you were that close to a SAM. -when dropping the JDAM, you had boots on the ground laser designating the target. IRL, it’s a GPS guided munition. There was one block where you’d plug in The coordinates but wasn’t as common. They should have used an “LGB-xx” iteration to make it accurate. Additionally, 3 seconds isn’t enough for that bomb to arm and detonate. They would be higher. -The IR being able to see through cloud cover wouldn’t happen, they’re not that good. -“A-10 CAS” wouldn’t be illuminated on the HUD, ever, on anything, let alone a Naval Jet. That’s just the A2G stuff. The A2A is even more inaccurate. The most glaring error is radio chatter from an ATC……… In Miami lol. However, still a very fun mission in one of the most underrated FPS campaigns of all time IMHO.
It was flashy but nothing realistic about it even for air force enthusiasts, not mentioning real pilots. It's been basically modern aircraft fighting with WW2 tactics.
The entirety of the MOH:Warfighter game was insane for realism. It was based on a number of actual missions, with some of the operators who took part in them being used as advisors on the game. It was so realistic, some NATO countries banned the game from being on base due to the risk of triggering episodes of PTSD.
Great Video! BTW: Number 3 is also an Easter Egg that alludes to the 1976 animated film "The Twelve Tasks of Asterix", in which Asterix and Obelix have to complete 12 missions, one of which is to get permit document A38 from the House of Madness.
The mission in Witcher 3 about getting your money from the bank is inspired by one of the task Asterix have to do in the movie : The Twelve Tasks of Asterix. Where he also need the A38 paper and get send everywhere in the building driving people crazy. 😃
The funny part is that after you make it through all the bureaucracy, fistfight another customer, and play gwent with another, you find out the bank owner spent the money. Then you have to fight his guards to get it back, or wait a week and get a better reward.
You cannot imagine how much I love that scene. I mean there's a lot of things I like about Asterix but the permit A38 will forever be my favorite part in all of Asterix. And for CDPR do actually pay tribute to this made me so happy. I know Witcher 3 deserves credit for so many things but for me personally this is the one thing that is a standout in an already amazing game.
So I kept waiting for a masterpiece of realistic game missions to be mentioned, but it was missed. The DLC for The Last of Us where Ellie and her friend are just playing around in the deserted mall. So many wonderful moments in that culminating in the old Halloween store. All around you is the feeling that something MUST break the serenity and playfulness of the mission (because it IS a video game, right?) and the longer nothing happens, the weirder everything feels. True brilliance and one of my favorite DLCs of all time.
what about ellie taking a sip of winston's whiskey and spitting it because it tastes awful. I had the same reaction with alcohol when I was about her age too XD (and tbh I still hate the taste of alcohol I just like getting drunk)
That opening to Uncharted 4 was so amazing. It really felt like I was playing something new and exciting during the first few missions in that game. Naughty Dog and Rockstar are in a league of their own when it comes to believable narrative experiences (though I think Santa Monica could pull it off as well if they went for a more grounded style of game.) The openings to The Last of Us 1 and GTA V were equally as amazing. All 3 let you know within 30 minutes that you were playing something truly special and generation defining. I wish more games came with such a strong introduction. It really sets the tone for an incredible experience and is so memorable.
It was painfully boring. All we need is a cut scene to construct any narrative present here and that would be suffice. Have more respect for the player’s time, especially if they want to replay the game and have to sit through this mundane sludge again which is there to simply pad out the run time. It’s Uncharted, not The Last of Us.
In terms of graphics, that Amsterdam mission in the MW2 reboot was insane. As someone who lives in the Netherlands and has literally been there in Amsterdam, I was blown away. Sure, the actual mission itself made no sense, but man, those graphics felt like I was really there
I was blown away by the pouring the oil mission The graphics, setup and how Arthur stood there was at some point scary yet mind blowing The goat indeed

Uncharted 4s opening sequence was my first gaming experience of the modern generation. (It was modern when I played it) It is still one of my favorite gaming moments to date.

I'm sitting here in the dark in bed watching this on my phone, watching a soldier clear a house in dark night vision, then I get a flashbang to the face with a pure white screen as it switches to the next number.

Back in the day, (1995) there was Police Quest S.W.A.T. Still remember having to grind through the academy for what felt like an eternity before the first mission.
For me my number 1 would be the opening scene from Battlefield 1, it shows the horrors or the first world war. Also the first real mission with the Black Bess tank was incredibly well done IMO
The RDR2 'Pouring Forth Oil' heist is inspired by a scene in the film 'The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford', which was itself based on one of the James Gang's train robberies. So it's (indirectly and very loosely) based on real events.
Imagine having a long day of filling out forms just to get other forms and dealing with the struggles of life and you just want to get away for a little so you play the Witcher and that’s the first quest you do 😂
Number 2 is basically from the french comic animations of Asterix and Obelix. For people who don't know, the Form A38 is an unobtainable piece of paper in a house that "makes Insane people" and they allmost succeed by it til Asterix and Obelix reverse the gag and ask for form A39. It is one of their quests given to them by Caesar, to prove him that they are gods and that his conquest against their little Gaelic village will come to an end and he would hand over Rome to them if they succeed but if they fail they will join the empire.
The Witcher quest is a reference to The 12 tasks of Asterix and Obelix, The House that Makes you go Mad. With all the bureaucracy and everyone who enters leaves completly coocoo and gets picked up by an insane asylum crew.
Gameranx the A-38 in the witcher 3 is actually a reference to the twelves tasks of Asterix where asterix and obelix have to go to the "crazy house" where they need to get the A-38 pass. Genius reference!!!!
Saints Row (2022) Be Your Own Boss where you are depressed and moping around after getting fired is the most realistic and relatable mission I've ever played!
Love the list. I would say all of Rainbox Six Vegas 1 and 2 is worthy of being called "realistic". I especially feel like the "construction yard" mission was so tense with two enemy snipers. On max difficulty that was some tactical gaming.
The witcher 3 mission is a nod to Les 12 travaux d'Asterix. A french film. In this film, in order to complète his task, Astérix must aquire permit A38. But to get it you must have permit B35 and to get that you must have permit X03 etc etc etc. It's a nice little node
The heist at the beginning of uncharted 4 felt pretty realistic too. especially when you’re trying to rush in the power room not sure what to do and feel the clock ticking away
I’m pretty sure that bank mission in The Witcher 3 is a nod to the 8th task in the film ‘Asterix and The Twelve Tasks’. They are set the task of finding permit A 38 in “the place that sends you mad”. A really fun film if you ever get the chance to watch it.
That number 1 took me back to Swat 3 gold edition that my dad bought for me when I was about 14 years old. I play the demo on a disk I got from some magazine at the time and I have to tell you Swat 3 was absolutely awesome especially on our potato PC lol.
I don't know if you guys have talked about it, but the recent Ready Or Not game reminds me a lot of SWAT 4. It's still in Early Access, but it's really good.
Hey another Awesome video as always! Just a quick suggestion: Can you guys maybe swap out the White background (with the numbers) to a more eye-friendly color? :) Black would be so much better than the blinding White.. :P
That A38 thing is actually a really old european joke from a comic series called "Asterix und Obelix". In german it's a joke around the "Passierschein A38".
Any chance you could change the splash screens denoting the number? The white background is blinding! Maybe make the background dark grey/blue and make the number pale grey? Just a suggestion. Don't enjoy being essentially flashbanged every couple of minutes haha
2:15 In full screen on my phone, at night, with the lights off and full brightness because the scene is dark. And in a split-second, the whole screen turns white. You almost blinded me gameranx. Now I'll have trust issues with you 😃.
Hey Falcon As a prior AC-130 Sensor Operator, I gotta point out that the guy on the camera is also the guy who pulls the trigger. Just a small correction.
10 games that made you feel like the genre changes mid-game (example; uncharted 1 went from tomb raider to FPS horror with those creepy diseased….pale things….*shudders*)
The Witcher bank mission is like those where you forget your password. You click that option and the next is; “please put in your previous password to continue.”
Where is L.A. Noire?? Pretty realistic game with lots of cars from the era and a remarkable 1950's L.A.. The setting is even partly based on true events
5:59 there needs to be more wide open spaces in games. When I no-clipped outside the map in RDR2 on PC, or fly around in MSFS, I realised that future games will be way bigger, and real-time travel mechanics are going to be more of a thing
in regards to red dead 2 the ufo that is "unrealistic" may not be afterall. in the 1800 hundreds there is a painting and account of a green fireball that moved in bizarre patterns if i recall correctly. maybe that ufo with its green hue is inspirerd by this real life account :]

Suggestion: 10 games you have to play in order to understand a reference/meme
The RDR2 'Pouring Forth Oil' heist is inspired by a scene in the film 'The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford', which was itself based on one of the James Gang's train robberies. So it's (indirectly and very loosely) based on real events.
Damn, that makes me think.. is #10 mission made to simulate Osama's journey to "Heaven" ? 😲
That "Clean House" mission in COD is absolutely INSANE
My friend showed me it and I was like "wow, it looks so damn real!"...
Really captures the reality/atmosphere perfectly with the night vision.
Imagine having a long day of filling out forms just to get other forms and dealing with the struggles of life and you just want to get away for a little so you play the Witcher and that’s the first quest you do 😂
gameranx is the best thing to fall asleep with playing ❤
I remember in my childhood I used to play SWAT 4 a lot.....the gameplay and concept was that much realistic
School orientation was my first true runaround experience. "Oh, you need to be standing in *that* line."
👍🏼
Also great content as always ^^
CoD does achieve a high sphincter level…. Clean house was great. The C130 mission is fun as well.
Finally some love for the Swat series
Honerable mention to heavy rain!!! Game some VERY realistic leveling and character design
Both those games were awesome and extremely intense
Terrorist hunt on realistic difficulty with the boys was chaotic nonsense 😂😂😂
@@joecfcfantastic shit was so intense! Loved it!
@@joecfcfantastic Good times. Actually the random spawning of enemies made it even more funny and chaotic.
The witcher 3 mission is a nod to Les 12 travaux d'Asterix. A french film. In this film, in order to complète his task, Astérix must aquire permit A38. But to get it you must have permit B35 and to get that you must have permit X03 etc etc etc. It's a nice little node
Out of all the channels I watch yall have easily the most consistently entertaining videos. Stay classy
That witcher 3 bank mission was on point 🔥
The heist at the beginning of uncharted 4 felt pretty realistic too. especially when you’re trying to rush in the power room not sure what to do and feel the clock ticking away
if you ignore the absurd monkey parkour scenes it looks like something that could be pulled off in real life
That feeling when you play a video, and you hear "Hi folks, it's falcon..." Ahhhhh, it's good. Got used to this now haha.
ive played pandora tomorrow back in the day an still sometimes remember that mission in the airport... a really good game
Swat 4 really is a gem that more folks should have played!
I’m pretty sure that bank mission in The Witcher 3 is a nod to the 8th task in the film ‘Asterix and The Twelve Tasks’. They are set the task of finding permit A 38 in “the place that sends you mad”. A really fun film if you ever get the chance to watch it.
Its actually a simulator of german gouvernment agencies 🤣
That number 1 took me back to Swat 3 gold edition that my dad bought for me when I was about 14 years old. I play the demo on a disk I got from some magazine at the time and I have to tell you Swat 3 was absolutely awesome especially on our potato PC lol.
I don't know if you guys have talked about it, but the recent Ready Or Not game reminds me a lot of SWAT 4. It's still in Early Access, but it's really good.
👌🏼👍🏼
@@gameranxTV where did you learn emotespeak?
I found this video through an ad and I’m subscribed. Glad it popped up though. Great video
I am about to complete uncharted 4 on PC finally and damn it's so good. It's like a dream come true for me
👌🏼
🍷
Hey another Awesome video as always! Just a quick suggestion: Can you guys maybe swap out the White background (with the numbers) to a more eye-friendly color? :) Black would be so much better than the blinding White.. :P
Thanks for your feedback
you guys forgot “No Russian”
That A38 thing is actually a really old european joke from a comic series called "Asterix und Obelix". In german it's a joke around the "Passierschein A38".
Any chance you could change the splash screens denoting the number? The white background is blinding! Maybe make the background dark grey/blue and make the number pale grey? Just a suggestion. Don't enjoy being essentially flashbanged every couple of minutes haha
Thanks for your feedback
2:15
In full screen on my phone, at night, with the lights off and full brightness because the scene is dark. And in a split-second, the whole screen turns white. You almost blinded me gameranx. Now I'll have trust issues with you 😃.
Please do something about the white number screens, they are too bright . Luv ur channel
Thanks for your feedback
Hey Falcon
As a prior AC-130 Sensor Operator, I gotta point out that the guy on the camera is also the guy who pulls the trigger. Just a small correction.
How about: 10 obscure games that are really great? You could even split the concept by genre for several videos.
Every time I see the cut scenes from the intro to bon appétit I crave Italian food with wine 🥖 🍷 🍝. Every time. anyone else? Lol 😂
Kool a new vid on my birthday love the content
Happy birthday
@@gameranxTV thx you
Never knew about the Medal of Honor mission, sooo cool 👍👍
10 games that made you feel like the genre changes mid-game (example; uncharted 1 went from tomb raider to FPS horror with those creepy diseased….pale things….*shudders*)
Thanks for your suggestion
The Witcher bank mission is like those where you forget your password. You click that option and the next is; “please put in your previous password to continue.”
House building should have been the one for RDR2
Glad to see Pandora Tomorrow getting some attention!
My day gets just a little better after seeing a new falcon post. Thanks 🙏🏻
😍
I personally would've put fighting Alduin in Sovengarde in the list too.
👍🏼
I was expecting to see Heavy Rain somewhere on this list. That entire game was extremely realistic.
