    The key to not crave for something is to enjoy what you are having. as you chew and savor them you'll learn to appreciate the special taste of the original food material instead of seasonings.

    Where's the nooch?? My go to is tahini, nutritional yeast, lemon, pinch of salt/pepper, and enough water to make a good consistency. It doesn't even require a blender. I'll have to mix up a few new experiments tonight. Thanks for the inspiration

    Hey Derek! Loving your videos man. Love all your info. I've done a lot research recently on going vegan and you helped push me across the line because of your fitness and physique to be honest. I wanted to get get ripped and wasn't sure about going vegan. I started looking at the lifestyle a couple of years ago when I was diagnosed with Crohn's, and was also quietly influenced by a vegan work mate. Fast forward to last week, I caught a mini-documentary with John Joseph of the Cro Mags, then I was checking out vegan athletes, came across Jim Morris, then your channel.

    I haven't tried it yet, but am hopeing to in the next week or so, making vegan yogurt(s) to use as a base in many different dressings. like green goddess dressing, or even ranch
    apparently making yogurt is as simple as adding probiotic to a nut, soy, or coconut milk and allowing it to ferment in a warm area for a few hours - a day
    im hopeing to make several and keep them in ketchup like bottles so they can be put on all kinds of dishes very readily and easily :)

    Hi Derek! Love your videos! I'm a new vegan (+- half a year in transition) and they're so helpful :) Until about a month ago I used to worry a lot about caloric intake and I used to eat a lot of oil (coconut, olive and a ton of avocados) and legumes (beans and also isolated soy protein powder). I was attempting not to lose any muscle mass or weight (and it worked), but felt like I was missing something important. Now I am trying to minimise my consumption of processed foods and I try to build my meals around whole fruit&vege (in addition to healthy portions of legumes and whole carbs) and simply eat more of everything when I need to, not just the calory-dense foods. It seems quite right. My digestion is way better and my stomach doesn't feel crammed with food any more after meals. Very curious how my body will react to this during the next months! Thanks for the inspiration! The only thing I am still worrying about is omega 3 (I'm in uni and I really need my brains to function at their best potential ;) ) I usually use linseed oil as my salad dressing (with some lemon and pepper), but would you advice against that because the oil is not a whole food? Maybe use the whole seeds in some way? Other options like algea seem ridiculously expensive and often are processed supplements as well. I have hemp powder but I can't seem to make any palatable recipes with it that don't involve a ton of sweetener even when I use spices and cocoa to try and mask the flavour of the hemp. Do I even need to watch omega 3 when I am already limiting omega 6 intake? I would love to hear some of your ideas on this! How can I eat a whole foods vegan diet that is brain friendly?

    Some of the ingredients I use and not in any particular order is kombucha ... any flavour will do with the added benefit of probiotics. soy yogurt....I am allergic to nuts, seeds and avocado 😑, nooch, poppyseed, dried figs maple syrup, mango..adds creamy especially when you can't eat avocados. tajin spice...available at Mexican food stores or go to Cabo and get some. 😊 saffron, cardamon, any citrus zest...

    Like, best knives, pots/pans/blenders, little gadgets or whatever. Maybe even a list of what crucial cooking ingredients to stock up on as an aspiring vegan "chef"...and if not a video maybe you could just give me a few pointers?

    You can also just simmer a decent quality supermarket balsamic vinegar for 15-20 minutes uncovered until it's a light syrup consistency. It will thicken even more as it cools. Boom, you have a balsamic reduction. It's a one ingredient flavor bomb with a long shelf life and a thickness you can't get from most other oil-free dressings.

    • @Simnettnutrition
      @Simnettnutrition  7 років тому

      Yes, balsamic vinegar is very tasty. I know lots of the bottled stuff is full of sulphites, so it's good to know you can make it fairly easily.

    Nice vitamix... its a game changer for sauces, smoothies, cashew milk, all that stuff. You can seriously make anything into a sauce/soup/dip. We've been vegan a year now and that blender made it much easier than I thought. One of our favorite dressings: mushroom, cashew, tahini: spice as needed. QUESTION: We have noticed that since going vegan, animals like us more... have you?

      Your dressings sound great. And you are right, I should have maybe mentioned how amazing vitamix's are. It's hard for me not to sound like a salesman once I get going though. Haha. Fun question. It is an interesting thought isn't it. I feel like I have noticed that too. If you think about it, generally in the animal kingdom if you eat meat you are a predator. Many animals have such strong senses of smell, I can totally see them being able to smell (or sense) the difference between a predator or not. Who knows though ;)

      Thats our take on animals as well. If you're ever in the SF bay area: we can point you to yummy vegan restaurants! We try to keep things simple but having a date night where we dont have to cook is great...
