- Gov. Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency Saturday, ahead of Hurricane Hilary’s expected landing in Southern California. Meanwhile, Bay Area first responders are heading south to assist with the response efforts. Rob Mayeda, Alyssa Goard and Marianne Favro report.

Thank God there was so many souls out smiling at Target I'm sure they were you know getting their stuff. The beautiful thing is it was people of all colors out there and thank God we were sharing hope in Jesus Christ and people are talking about colors to each other was amazing.

A state of emergency for 40 mph tropical storm winds? They don't know how lucky they are to only be hit by such a minor storm.
Anyway, if any Californians are reading this, just make sure not to run portable gas generator indoors, and don't drive on flooded streets.
Rainfall is mainly a problem. Many people are not used to that kind of weather.
Rainfall all at once is the problem. The ground doesn't absorb water well.
They said 90 to 100 mph winds.
The flooding is the problem as well as 40mph winds. Places that are use to hurricanes, tornadoes, etc. can withstand 40mph winds, however, Cali infrastructure isn’t use to that and hasn’t been tested like that since 1800s. They are anticipating a lot of flooding and a lot of things falling.

Happened in Houston except, your storm won't linger over your city like ours did. The clouds will pass over and be gone in little time. I'm more concerned with buildings on the edge of hills.

40 to 50 mph winds and a couple of inches of rain. BIG DEAL. You would have to throw in some hail and a couple of tornadoes to make a typical spring storm in OK and TX.

If a storm that is not common for that area reaches, most people and services are not prepared. Not the same thing, but when Dallas had snow for the Super Bowl, the town freaked out and nearly shut down! Those of us in the Northeast and Midwest thought it was so meaningless. But extreme cold conditions for snow and ice on the roads made things more dangerous for an area of the US not experienced in dealing with such. Fair?
Take cover folks....hurricanes are no joke. l was hit with Hurricane Michael in 2018. l had damages on my property and that was horrible to deal with the aftermath. The stress and sadness around my community during that time wasn't any fun. Devastation hits hard with bad weather. Praying for California, that's my home state. 😢

Nope, it takes a wet spring and a summer with moderate rain to do that. This will cause a lot of runoff from burn scars and will flood the already nearly-full reservoirs. Then the water will pool in the central valley and destroy the summer crops. Be ready for much higher food prices.

Don’t underestimate this hurricane.. a category 2 or 3 can do a lot of damage … my home town in Louisiana was hit with several category 3 storms and category 2 storms and it takes years to rebuild. Be prepared!

My bet is they are gonna be all right. Born and raised there, the Santa Ana winds rip through their all the time. We were built to handle wind and ear quakes.
I’d be more worried about the storm surge for the waterfront areas, and maybe the residual effects of the all the water the area isn’t used to getting. Flooding is likely going to be the biggest issue over the winds.

I hope all is well down south because the parched soil will likely lead to some nasty flash flood. With that being said, I feel like there is way too much hyperbole for this storm’s effect in NorCal. I live way north of SF and some people are worried up here which I don’t think is warranted. Probably a different story down south
