I think Tommy missed lethal, since spirit link creates a trigger, attacking with the djinn when Mengu was at 4 should be lethal before the trigger resolves, under current rules.
22:36 Depending on which rules you are using, Tommy could’ve won here by attacking with Ernham Djinn-Spirit Link triggers when damage is dealt but Mengu would still go to 0. Under old rules he would live until the end of the current phase, allowing him to gain the life and survive, but under current rules he would die when SBAs are checked before the trigger resolves.
When I was a little kid, there was a Chaos Orb for sale at my local game store. I was convinced for the longest time that it was the most powerful card ever printed, because it was the most expensive card in that case in 1995.
"The Deck" is impressive. And very oppressing -I wouldn't have had the patience to not concede after being so far behind. Also, don't worry about the missed triggers; it's the true LGS experience after all. Great video.
Tommy missed lethal in game 3 after you incorrectly used fireball (X needs to be divided evenly) since spirit link doesn't actally give lifelink, its a trigger, and you'd die with the trigger on the stack.
This is the video I’ve been waiting for! I run an Old School Magic club called the Florida Fireballs and I’m so happy to see Mengu and Tommy try Old School.
I'd love to see you guys take on some of the weirder throwback formats like Revised 40. After all, who doesn't want to play a deck with 7 Prodigal Sorcerers in it?
It s made to show the cards in the correct wording for people at home who want to follow along. Like moxes don’t even say Tap to add color, they just say Mono Artifact. But yeah agree it’s better looking for sure.
Bellissimo video e magnifiche le partite! Spero possiate portare questo formato assieme al vintage un po' più spesso, essendo così rari da vedere. Bravissimi❤
I remember playing The Deck/Keeper in a Type 1 league in the early 2000s, it was finishing games with Exalted Angel and Decree of Justice then. It was so insanely complicated, powerful and opressive, I've never in nearly 25 years playing Magic played a deck that was more fun. Most of the times when I play cube with friends I try to draft something like that. No win conditions, just thousands of lines each turn.
The game was probably over anyway, but the cool "im the inevitable The Deck" line would be regrowth DT, DT for Recall, Recall to pick up ancestral, regrowth, and DT, and then using that to find Tower and really lock it up.
Man i love that a non-powered deck beat a full-powered deck twice (g3 missed lethal w/ erhnam enchanted w/ spirit link), g2 was an exhibition of how good opening hand alexandria is.
Did you play the fireball correctly at 21:38? Seems that for 9 mana with 3 targets, X would be 5, and it would deal 1 damage to each of the three targets.
That R3 is one of the most wholesome and fun rounds of Magic I've ever seen. Honestly, no joking, I think that is exactly how Richard Garfield intended it 🙂
It amazes me that no one ever knows how to flip a card. Chaos Orb was created because "card flipping" was popular back then. Kids used to play a game with collectible cards (everything from baseball cards to Pokemon, and even predates that going back to regular playing card decks) where you grab the long edge of a card hold it above the others and quickly move your hands downward to make the card flip in rolling motion as it floated down toward the table or floor. Whatever cards yours touched you took. With collectible cards it was like a gambling game and with playing cards it determined your score. Everyone I knew growing up knew how to flip cards and most were accurate to within an inch or two for where they could make it land. Every single time I see an MTG video with a Chaos Orb it shocks me that no one ever knows how to actually flip a card.
...also, Andrea broke the rules with the result as well. It automatically destroys all permanents it touches. In what reality does Chaos Orb get to target? I'm a fan of Mengu, but this was a completely botched play all around.
The fireball at 21:30 doesn't work like that.. you need to do same amount of damage on each target so you need 10 manas to do 4 dmg on Serra and 4 dmg on the Argothian Pixies to kill both... (and not possible to do 1 dmg on opponent at same time obviously)
Hey mengu please consider playing deaths shadow vs bant spirit old modern, very fun matchup always so might be a good idea to play it with tommy, especially because green and white for tommy
Wait, isn't Chaos Orb supposed to destroy everything it touches? Or do you just have it be one target since theoretically you could just always play around it by spacing your entire board out enough?
I see this on scryfall, but not on gatherer. I am guessing that the people that decide the rules of OldSchool chose it to be that way? If you are playing Chaos Orb in the Old School format, the card's text is “{1}, {T}: Choose a nontoken permanent on the battlefield. If Chaos Orb is on the battlefield, flip Chaos Orb onto the battlefield from a height of at least one foot. If Chaos Orb turns over completely at least once during the flip, and lands resting on the chosen permanent, destroy that permanent. Then destroy Chaos Orb.” (Scryfall note, 2019-01-27)
R for fireball, 1 mana for the 2. target and 2 mana for damage .. seems legit /edit yes the 1 dmg to player shouldn't work out ^^ just now caught up to that part
21:33 “I will target 1 , 4 and 1” whereas with three targets and nine mana it would be six damage divided evenly so 2 to each of the creatures and 2 to Tommy.
We always played Chaos Orb as "destroys everything it touches". This is the first time I've heard of targeting with the Orb. Edited to add: Could Tommi have Swords to Plowshare'd his Angel before the Fireball damage hit it?
Wait, Spirit Link is a triggered ability. When Mengu is at 4, why not just attack with Erhnam Djinn for 4 and kill him before the triggered ability resolves? Sure it's net zero, but for a moment Mengu DOES lose the 4 life because it isn't lifelink.
I don't understand what happened with the Chaos Orb. The card doesn't target and it does indeed destroy everything it lands on. Are the rules for the card different in Old School?
I think Tommy missed lethal, since spirit link creates a trigger, attacking with the djinn when Mengu was at 4 should be lethal before the trigger resolves, under current rules.
That s trueeeee
Alternate title "Mengu abuses Tommi with his wallet"
"Tommy you drew so many powerful spells" said the player who casted Seven Power nines
@@perrosalchicho a 4/5 for 4 is better than an artifact that’s basically a llanowar elf! 😅

I was wondering about the fireball rules as well. Thank you for clarifying
More of this format please! 🎉
This is one of the few channels I watch the whole ads without skipping. I like to get Mengu that extra ad revenue😉
😘
Excellent video guys. I've been playing old school for a while now and absolutely love the format. It's nice to to more content on this.

How did you divide Fireball's dmaage this way? As I know, it is divided evenly, not 1-4-and-1-in-your-face.
THIS IS AMAZING!! Only one very minor nitpick: it would be cool if when you show the cards you could use the same version that is being played :)
It s made to show the cards in the correct wording for people at home who want to follow along. Like moxes don’t even say Tap to add color, they just say Mono Artifact. But yeah agree it’s better looking for sure.
@MengusWorkshop I see, that makes sense :)

More oldschool more premodern!!!!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️
Yeah those are the best formats
Magic is a simple game. Two players throw cards at each other for three games and at the end, Andrea Mengucci always wins.
the best magic video format on youtube

So cool!
I suggested this in a previous comment, hope that made a small nudge to doing this video! 😃
It did!
These matches were so charming. I really love old magic. It just feels so clean and fun.
Ah what a good day it is, a mengu’s workshop video has dropped
Every monday!

Love this format, big fan of Troll Disco and UB Bots
That game 3 was amazing!! No spoilers, but it's one of my favorite games you guys have played on this channel so far!
Man i love that a non-powered deck beat a full-powered deck twice (g3 missed lethal w/ erhnam enchanted w/ spirit link), g2 was an exhibition of how good opening hand alexandria is.
Very nice, more of this and vintage Mengu!
These videos are so consistently awesome you guys are great keep up the good stuff!
The energy you guys have is always awesome ❤
Weissman's "the deck" for real? The deck that got me hooked a million years ago
7:58 woah dude take them to dinner first at least
I've been really looking forward to this video, great stuff!!
MORE OLD SCHOOL PLEASE!
Marooooonnnnn quant’è bell sto video!! I laugh a lot till the end!! 😂
Did you play the fireball correctly at 21:38? Seems that for 9 mana with 3 targets, X would be 5, and it would deal 1 damage to each of the three targets.
Yes- you have to divide the damage evenly…
Please more Old School games. The rules of the old cards can be challenging.
Another minor correction: the abyss has a destroy, not a sacrifice effect. Sweet match, awesome format!
I can watch these cards all day! ❤
entertaining as always, even with that background music lol
Erhnamgeddon is my favorite OS deck; hoping to pilot mine to a win in my pod's OS tourney this month! Great gameplay from both of y'all as usual
That Sol Ring is the definition of "Italian Nearmint" :D
Best format. And beautiful cards. 😃
even against power 9 tommy is still crushing it with a g/w dudes deck lol ggs
Great Video! Would be cool to see the old carss in the video editing if a card is shown
The missed lethal at 22:39 hurts so much
That R3 is one of the most wholesome and fun rounds of Magic I've ever seen. Honestly, no joking, I think that is exactly how Richard Garfield intended it 🙂
it would be cool if in old school video the art the showed card were the old one if it's not to much work for tommy, I love your video
It’s especially funny to see modern artifact frame moxen in the hand preview since they use the Vintage masters renders
pretty sure they used the new printings for the sake of having understandable card text
Old school! Yesssss

... also, the way Andrea did it was illegal because the last time he touched it was less than the minimum distance above the table.
...also, Andrea broke the rules with the result as well. It automatically destroys all permanents it touches. In what reality does Chaos Orb get to target? I'm a fan of Mengu, but this was a completely botched play all around.

Wow! That was Wild!!
isnt the spirit link a trigger? couldnt tommy attack in the end and kill andrea with the djin?
Bello vedere come Andrea gioca un mazzo che vale il doppio di casa mia
Mengu flexes his assets against Tommi
a true battle of wits lol

I love how exicted Mengu is to DT for the most powerful card: Serra Angel
2:21 the one ring, 1993 edition
Never heard of the chaos orb being targeted and not destroying everything it touches. Is that a special rule for old school?
Wait, isn't Chaos Orb supposed to destroy everything it touches? Or do you just have it be one target since theoretically you could just always play around it by spacing your entire board out enough?
No just what it targets, it s reworded

Mengu need to see you play paper Cradle Control with Tommy!
Did Andrea play fireball wrong? Its damage from X to be divided evenly, rounding down, amongst all targets chosen
R for fireball, 1 mana for the 2. target and 2 mana for damage .. seems legit
/edit yes the 1 dmg to player shouldn't work out ^^ just now caught up to that part
The one in game 1 was 4 mana total, 1 red plus 1 for extra target plus 2 damages one each
21:33 “I will target 1 , 4 and 1” whereas with three targets and nine mana it would be six damage divided evenly so 2 to each of the creatures and 2 to Tommy.
maybe it's time to bring my WW deck from my childhood out of retirement
Wooo hoooo first comment on the sickest video to date! 🤗🤗🤗
I'm misreading Chaos Orb or it should''ve destroy everything it touches, the mishra factory, the spirit link and the serra angel?
What a great format. Double mox, use it to cast Jayemdae Tome.
more old school videos please~
this was super sweet!
sick games!
Many old school formats still play with mana burn.
You take mana burn on eternal central rule set. Which is the most popular in the states.
tommy mio fratello sempre a spaccare terre
"I'll plow the pixie." Oh my~
The deck has all of the answers
Give Erhnamgeddon another chance, adding Power 9 to it though!
Isn't the whole thing with chaos orb is that destroys whatever it touches? I remember being given a ruling that it strictly does not target.
Tommy understood the rule "never trust mengu" 😂
cool format, although just really playable with proxies, that could even the playingfield as well
Do u ever play shandilar ive Been addicted to watching it ever since card market showed it on a video
Mengu! Come to New Jersey in January and play in the Deckmaster Alpha Beta World Championship! 30 players, all playing only alpha and beta!
"End of turn, I'll plow your pixies" #quotes
Mengu got 3 or 4 top decks in a row to survive. Champion's luck
Your a beast for playing spirit link in a 3 creature deck lol
It's mostly in the deck for stuff like Juzam's, not your own creatures.
@WhiteBorderMTG I know
We always played Chaos Orb as "destroys everything it touches". This is the first time I've heard of targeting with the Orb. Edited to add: Could Tommi have Swords to Plowshare'd his Angel before the Fireball damage hit it?
In Old School Orb has errata that makes it targeted
Wait, Spirit Link is a triggered ability. When Mengu is at 4, why not just attack with Erhnam Djinn for 4 and kill him before the triggered ability resolves? Sure it's net zero, but for a moment Mengu DOES lose the 4 life because it isn't lifelink.
First Turn of Mengu ... and there are approx 4600 EUR on the table *lol*
your video are so cool
The decklists are wrong. Tommys doesnt contain the copy of crumble (unknown if other errors)
I have one question, doesn't chaos orb destroy everything it touches? Why did it only destroy tommy's serra angel?
If i understand correctly, it should also have destroyed spirit link and mishra's factory, no?
And fireball says you round the damage down and evenly between all targets, you can't choose how much damage you do to each of them
I don't understand what happened with the Chaos Orb. The card doesn't target and it does indeed destroy everything it lands on. Are the rules for the card different in Old School?
Yeah it s reworded now it targets
Fireball damage must be split evenly (rounded), you cannot split 4, 8, 1 damage.
Alternate title: Pro player bullies his friend😂
Tommy is also a pro player ahahaha and usually beats Mengu in others formats
I think at one point Tommy casted the djinn for 3 mana instead of 4.
Andrea drew too much, eventually had to draw something, but way too many topdecks, Tommy deserved the win 100% he's the moral winner for me.
The orb should have destroyed every permanent it touched!
Imagine elixir of immortality would have allready been printed. the deck would have been evan more dominant
You know, you can just print cards?
yessssss
Andrea stop flicking those expensive cards 😅
But they’re mine! Ahah
Poor Ivory tower
I bought the second Antiquities one! 😅
the best card in magic is your credit card
