- Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) is expanding its terminal to improve on airport efficiency and provide passengers with more amenities and options.
Plans for the RSW Terminal Expansion Project include consolidating the Transportation Security Administration checkpoints into a new 16-lane configuration and providing additional seating, concession spaces and a business lounge. In total, more than 164,000 square feet of space will be remodeled and 117,000 square feet of new walkways and concession space will be added to the airport terminal.
The $331-million project is being funded with grants from the Florida Department of Transportation, Passenger Facility Charges (PFCs), airport revenue bonds and Lee County Port Authority (LCPA) construction funds. No ad valorem (property) taxes are used for airport operation or construction. This expansion is the second-largest public works project in Lee County history, only being surpassed by the airport’s Midfield Terminal Complex construction completed in 2005. The project started in October 2021 and construction is planned for three years.
Motivation for everyone to get precheck. That lane should still be quick
The redesign of the main atrium and security checkpoint are very nice as is the added height to the ceilings. It looks like the security gets a really nice upgrade as do those in the admin offices, however the real concern is out in the narrow and crowded terminals themselves. Lack of seating, concessions, restrooms, space overall out there is already well over the intended volume. Are there any additional gates planned? The airport is already maxed out of their gate space.
SICKENING more and more and longer lines for the disabled to get through SECURITY. Hey Lee county do you ever comply with ADA???
I thought the airport has a disability/first line line that skips to the front? wouldn't that remain the same? Curious to hear of your experience.
So D concourse gets nothing?

why not have a new concourse in the open field that can be reached by a subway? ready for the future and to attract more international flights from Europe... RSW is an "international" airport but other than from Canada and one airlines from Germany there's not too many internationals arriving here...
I think any subway idea would be more of a water slide ride since the water table is literally a foot down
which subway would it connect to exactly?
I got to laugh at the Southwest aircraft. Clearly who put this together didn't realize that Southwest doesn't run MD80 / DC 9. By no means is that an illustration of 737🤣🤣🤣
Looks nice from what is shown. Doesn't address all of the issues or concerns. 2025 is a long ways away though!
Add to the Southwest aircraft looks like United will also be using D gates and American using C gates from what is shown in the first minute of the video. Well done LCPA, well done, looks like a two year old made this video. Anyway from what I saw earlier this month they've got a long way to go within the next 12 months to reach the 2025 opening.
Looks good but passengers are going to be walking way longer distances
yeah, not cool...
With Massive violations of the ADA laws
Only 16 lanes for ALL of TSAs security? You know already that this will lead to long waiting lines... And it won't go help that all of it is centered, as example, you'll check-in on the left side of the huge building and then have to walk to the center to the TSA checkpoint and once passed security, you then have to walk back to the left to your gate... Who came up with that idea? It's centralizing security but it is not giving passengers a more comfortable setting... Plus again, 16 TSA lines are not enough for the future... What about stores and restaurants and newspaper stands and stuff like that, a real duty-free experience... Ever been to Zurich or Copenhagen international airport?... Look it up on UA-cam...
16 lanes is more than the 2-3 each terminal has now. Plus I don’t think you can compare RSW to big international airports
