Having the departures on top and the arrivals below is a smart layout and makes for better movement. It also has a lot of local restaurants & stores in each terminal, which makes waiting for your flight much more enjoyable.
This arrangement of arrivals and departures and the other infrastructure can already be found in Terminals 1 and 2 of the airport, even though they are already decades old. This has absolutely proved its worth. I think planners around the world recognize the advantages and disadvantages of certain building forms and when you have as little space available as Frankfurt - the population around it is very dense - you have to save space and therefore you build both upwards and downwards. Maybe I'll have the pleasure of flying to Portland one day. Then I will remember your words 😀
@@AL5520 Terminal 1 in Frankfurt opened in 1972 and offered split levels for departures and arrivals from.the very beginning. And the new terminal got its own train station underneath, nowadays the regional train station. Whereas the later built station for longhaul and highspeed trains is situated in a gap between two highways, 200 m away.
The last part to be completed will be the new S-Bahn train station for this terminal. Deutsche Bahn has a reputation for beeing extremely slow in construction projects, even for German standards. In the far future there will be the train station for long distance ICEs with four tracks and an S-Bahn staion with three tracks north of the airport and new S-Bahn station with probably 2 tracks in the south to serve the new terminal and connect it directly to Frankfurt main station.
The passenger numbers for 2023 looks like they will be around 60 million and therefore it will likely only be another year to get back to pre-Covid numbers.
Am I the only one thinking the space between the gates seem a bit over the top? I would think an airport terminal of this size could accommodate a lot more gates and jet bridges.
It will be a wonderful addition to FRAPORT. I'm hoping that it will eliminate the need for those awful "remote gates" where you freeze or roast while getting on/off your flight and then have to board a bus to get to/from the terminal. If anyone has any info on this, please let me know. Cheers.
When did they start calling it FRAPORT? Seems like they should be more true to their german culture, Is sticking to the old name, "Flughafen Frankfurt am Main." Why the English-based acronym?

More logical and convenient for passengers, public transport, taxis and supply for airport shops and restaurants. Missed opportunity if you ask me.

still hard for me to understand that the airport is almost twice the size of Heathrow (2160 vs 1227 ha) and has four runways, but Heathrow is still moving more passengers (66 vs 49 millions per year).
Since when does the size of an area have anything to do with the number of passengers arriving at an airport? Frankfurt is the final destination for very few passengers, but rather an airport for transit passengers. London, on the other hand, will be the final destination for most people, because London is a major city in the whole world. Besides, Frankfurt only has around 700,000 inhabitants and London has how many? That's right, just under 9 million. If you assess this correctly, the answer is self-evident. You can't compare apples with pears
@@gerhardma4297 for example the number of runways? Frankfurt has four, Heathrow has two, but Heathrow has more passengers. I‘ll probably need a crayon to draw you a picture.
Heathrow serves whole UK, while in Germany there are three to four airports with international traffic (Frankfurt, Munic, Berlin and Hamburg and some smaller ones). So Fraport has not the traffic of Heathrow. Logical.
@@patrickp.1001 BER Berlin Brandenburg Airport Willy Brandt it's a major project which took way way to long to complete. But it was the Biggest known Airport Expansion in cost I ever seen so far with over $7BN in costs.
This all just makes me sad. I was stationed at Rhein Main Air Base In the nineties, Before we had to move to ramstein. That base had a lot of history especially with the berlin airlift. I understand the germans need to expand but it was still sad to see.
I am a crew member based in Frankfurt. I am trying to handle the everyday chaos at this airport under current conditions. Today, we are close to collapse every single day, massive delays, cancellations and two snowflakes are capable to cause a complete standstill of traffic. I cannot see any chances how this airport should be handling some 24 million passengers more. Wishful thinkijg, nothing else. Lack of staff and untrained workers at all ground handling departments make every day a challenge already. Baby boomer generation being retired soon will cause more difficulties in the near future.
These days with so much content streaming, People can choose between what they watch and one thing that a viewer dislikes can hand that viewer to someone else
Wait, they're not extending the airport train to make a new stop at the new terminal? So passengers have to change onto a different form or transport? That will be an absolute pain and seems very short-sighted.
You know when you mentioned the number of subs vs viewers it always amazes me how people do not just go ahead and sub to a channel like this. It is not like you all put our a video every single day to fill their feed. I just don't get it.
So, if done on schedule, construction will have taken 11 years. What an example of German efficiency. For reference, building Terminal 5 at Heathrow, which is far larger, took 6 years.
Germany is making the mistake of investing all of it's funding into overexhausted airports like Frankfurt and Munich - they are large, congested and saturated as is. Instead of stressing these two airports, they following should be done: Airports -- The airports at both Nuremberg and Stuttgart should be expanded to include not only european flights but international flights as well from North America and Asia. This would lock in southern Germany with 4 international airports, equally distanced and perfectly connected by rail should one be impacted due to weather or technological failure. Expand Cologne/Bonn to the level of Dusseldorf to international status to inlcude Leipzig that would form a middle line across the country and have two international airports operating from eastern Germany. Expand Hannover and Bremen to compliment Hamburg's airport for international flights By doing so, all of these airports would be well connected and the saturation of Munich and Frankfurt would cease. Common sense should be evident that Frankfurt will no longer be able to expand due to urban sprawl and Munich's stress is simply because no other large airport is in the near area until you reach Frankfurt - utter nonsense for a nation as internationally traveled as Germany.
Will be done way better than in Berlin. But with years of delays caused by German bureau-crazy and with exploding energy costs because of Green fanatism it is way more expensive than similar projects in the world.
Frankfurt Airport is first and foremost a functional airport for transit passengers and not a tourist destination or wellness hotel. If you want a feel-good experience, you should fly to Singapore. This airport is all you want

Not much more is possible here. With an airport with so many flight movements in the middle of a conurbation, there is neither a free pass for unlimited flight movements nor all-round operation. Frankfurt has to close for around 7 hours at night
Since its more like a Private than a Public Project (though parts of it are public like the Highway exit) it should stay in time and budget. Or at cloer to it than public projects usually are
@@lukasrentz3238 Actually not even the roads are funded by tax money. fraport has the full control over all the roads leading from and to the airport. So not even the AUTOBAHN exits are public
What a great statement. Neither of these are airports that have existed for more than 70 years and have had to be adapted time and again to changing circumstances. They were built on a greenfield site or in the sand without having to pay attention to nature, people or anything else. So in future, switch on your brain - if you have one - before you say something so stupid.
net zero emissions by 2045, but net 1000% increase in emissions due to additional air traffic ! now that makes total sense. Remember to use paper straws though, coz this will save the planet.
Making the airport building itself carbon neutral is a joke: the problem is the transport from and to the terminal (still too often by car) and then ofcourse the flying itself. Airports should NOT be allowed to grow, and should focus on essential long distance travel. All destinations reachable in 4 hours by train should NOT get a flight there. And if our climate and environment keep degrading this will need to be enforced more strict even jumping to 6 hours. The remaining flight activity should be heavily taxed to reinvest this in creating better public surface transport. Airports are a thing of the past and should not be glorified. They are the excellent symbol of environmental catastrophy.
You say some absolutely correct things, but this world is still a long way from recognizing this in general. Many politicians in the USA and many countries in Asia in particular are turning a blind eye. And as long as this is the case, we can only try to achieve improvements step by step on a small scale - if it is not already too late.
The only thing that I don't understand is, why does this airport look exactly like the newly built Berlin-Brandenburg airport. Like...they could have done something new. ´
Form follows function and as long as no prestige property has to be built and everything is still privately financed, functional buildings will remain. It's as simple as that
So this new terminal will "only" give an adicional 19 million passengers. That's the growth it had in just 9 years (from 2008 to 2019) Is there plans for further expansions?
To be honest , Frankfurt is so big already I refuse to fly to it at the moment , the changing time was 1 hour and it took his 45 mins to get to the damn get from where we landed and that was when we had assistance. I think planners around the world recognize the advantages and disadvantages of certain building forms and when you have as little space available as Frankfurt - the population around it is very dense - you have to save space and therefore you build both upwards and downwards. Maybe I'll have the pleasure of flying to Portland one day. Then I will remember your words
😀
This is definitely not new and has been implemented for years in many terminals around the world.
Poland 🇵🇱 is looking at doing something like this near Warsaw.
0:16: This would make the Kaiser’s head spin.
The stations in the North are already built, only the south station needs to be built
Cheers.
For someone who wants to come close to an aircraft from the outside there is nothing better than remote gates
@@hansmuller3604 Yes, true. I did that for many years. Ah, that smell of jetfuel. Cheers.
When did they start calling it FRAPORT? Seems like they should be more true to their german culture, Is sticking to the old name, "Flughafen Frankfurt am Main." Why the English-based acronym?

In my personal opinion this Airport is the most "Confusing" as it stands today,Airport that i know ( and i know lots of Airports all around the World), i don't even want to imagine this "Chaotic" place being bigger that it is today

People dont want Bigger airports. They want airports that are easy to navigate and quick to transfer with great cultural experiences.
Yes they dont want bigger airports but they need them
Frankfurt airport is one of the simplest airports I have been to.Switching terminals or get a connection flight ist simple despite its size.
But people will start moaning if 10k people are squeezed into a small hall. So, yeah. Bigger airports are a necessity.
And how are you gonna fit 70 million passengers a year into a simple, tiny airport?
5:33 This delivery truck reverses with like 100 kmh
I am wondering if Terminal 3 will improve same day transfers from one flight to another. Last time I went through there, I had a 22 hour lay over.
How did that happen?
3:30 baloons outside an airport? Not the smartest idea 😂
I did not see them.
Those aren't balloons, They're just flags
It looks like a beautiful terminal, but it’s a shame it is built on the opposite side of the airport. It would have been so nicer if it would have been built in line with terminal 1 and 2. And replace the cargo section and the fuel depots to the opposite side of the airport. More logical and convenient for passengers, public transport, taxis and supply for airport shops and restaurants. Missed opportunity if you ask me.
loved the reversed footage lol
Frankfurt is already massive

My company is providing the rolling stock for the new Sky Line people mover. Just recently the first cars have been tested.
I however will probably not use T3 anytime soon, as I am mostly flying Lufthansa/Star Alliance and they will stay in Terminal 1 and will also occupy a then joint Terminal 2 after renovation.
still hard for me to understand that the airport is almost twice the size of Heathrow (2160 vs 1227 ha) and has four runways, but Heathrow is still moving more passengers (66 vs 49 millions per year).
Logical.

You should do a top 5 green and sustainable development for housings.
These days with so much content streaming, People can choose between what they watch and one thing that a viewer dislikes can hand that viewer to someone else
Are there major rail connections to the airport?
It has a high speed train station direct in front of it!
Josh Cahill family applied to scrub floors of terminal 3
Wait, they're not extending the airport train to make a new stop at the new terminal? So passengers have to change onto a different form or transport? That will be an absolute pain and seems very short-sighted.
Did you watch the video mate?
Hopefully it goes better than Berlin-Brandenburg 😬😬😬
I miss Rhein Main.
You know when you mentioned the number of subs vs viewers it always amazes me how people do not just go ahead and sub to a channel like this. It is not like you all put our a video every single day to fill their feed. I just don't get it.
I get so jealous seeing other places plan make and finish their projects fast without blowing taxpayer money
You are not talking about Germany right?
This is not payed by taxpayers money it is the money of a registered company listed on the Frankfurt Stockexchange. you can bu their shares world wide
So, if done on schedule, construction will have taken 11 years. What an example of German efficiency. For reference, building Terminal 5 at Heathrow, which is far larger, took 6 years.
I would like a video including Bangladesh projects
which airlines will use Terminal 3?
Germany is making the mistake of investing all of it's funding into overexhausted airports like Frankfurt and Munich - they are large, congested and saturated as is. Instead of stressing these two airports, they following should be done:
Airports -- The airports at both Nuremberg and Stuttgart should be expanded to include not only european flights but international flights as well from North America and Asia.
Expand Hannover and Bremen to compliment Hamburg's airport for international flights
By doing so, all of these airports would be well connected and the saturation of Munich and Frankfurt would cease.
But with years of delays caused by German bureau-crazy and with exploding energy costs because of Green fanatism it is way more expensive than similar projects in the world.
bla bla bal.... right wing bullshit
I don't think any sane person would describe Frankfurt airport as having a 'feel good' ambiance.
Frankfurt Airport is first and foremost a functional airport for transit passengers and not a tourist destination or wellness hotel. If you want a feel-good experience, you should fly to Singapore. This airport is all you want

So, in the Netherlands Schiphol has to shrink because of nitrogen emissions. It's nice to have 1 European Union, just across the border a lot more is possible 🤦🏻♂️
Not much more is possible here. With an airport with so many flight movements in the middle of a conurbation, there is neither a free pass for unlimited flight movements nor all-round operation. Frankfurt has to close for around 7 hours at night
So how long's this one gonna take to complete?

What a great statement. Neither of these are airports that have existed for more than 70 years and have had to be adapted time and again to changing circumstances. They were built on a greenfield site or in the sand without having to pay attention to nature, people or anything else. So in future, switch on your brain - if you have one - before you say something so stupid.
net zero emissions by 2045, but net 1000% increase in emissions due to additional air traffic ! now that makes total sense. Remember to use paper straws though, coz this will save the planet.
as long as It Isnt berlin & it opens on time....
My thoughts. Exactly the same form of the Terminal. We Germans only allow boxes it seems.
Form follows function and as long as no prestige property has to be built and everything is still privately financed, functional buildings will remain. It's as simple as that
974k subs and 4 % only subbed? That cant be right. Who cares about subs when the money comes from views right?
So this new terminal will "only" give an adicional 19 million passengers.
That's the growth it had in just 9 years (from 2008 to 2019)
Is there plans for further expansions?
Not yet. But I bet there will be a T4 in the future.
To be honest , Frankfurt is so big already I refuse to fly to it at the moment , the changing time was 1 hour and it took his 45 mins to get to the damn get from where we landed and that was when we had assistance. It is absolutely humungous. Dont bother unless you have at least 3 hours especially if you are from the UK as we are not in the EU anymore!
Come on, be realistic. Regardless of the fact that you Brits now have to go through the checks for third countries, I would never, not even at a regional airport, allow for a transfer time of less than 90 minutes. I once had a transfer time of 70 minutes in Zurich and the airport is manageable and I and a whole bunch of other passengers ran through the terminals like idiots to catch our connecting flight.
The problem is ypu dont kkboe how far your flight is. The other side of frank is a vey different sitsution to the other side fo a smaller regioanl siport. @@gerhardma4297
