I have to say I wouldn't touch evike with a barge pole even if I did live in the US. Their absolute con trick of removing the flash eliminator from the box and selling it separately speaks volumes to me. Anyway a few observations from my two years of ownership of the ARES L1A1. With regards the take down lever I've left mine unlocked due to the occasional gearbox mechanically seizing. Being able to crack the body open carefully means if I have a lock up I can rotate the change lever round to full auto, fire a burst to free the gears up then rotate back to repetition and the close the body up again. The ARES wood furniture kit, it looks great after a bit of work but hand on heart I can't recommend it due to the poor quality soft wood that has been utilised. Just this Sunday just gone my wooden stock broke when the stock bolt pulled through the material underneath it. I've now fully reverted to the synthetic furniture and oddly the body has now tightened up with no wobble after my faffing about. I own a 1972 dated L2A1 SUIT sight so I invested in a modified dust cover with mount from DR Solutions which fitted first time, looks the mutts nuts. Performance wise much the same as mentioned in this video, 365fps on 0.2g this weekend. Regarding the bolt carrier return spring it requires the removal of the take gas tube to allow the guide rod to move forward out of engagement with the rest locating point. Anyway I think I will be donning my DPM, Mk5 helmet and 58 Pattern webbing again next weekend and take my L1A1 out again! 😁
Very detailed review thank you. I would love to get an Airsoft SLR, the best available seems to be the Ares one with wood furniture. Its great to know some of its flaws going into it, better than unpleasant surprises.
So do I. Has to be said that the KA would survive better than the ARES but they're both still relatively fragile guns and won't survive the kind of abuse my CYMA steel AKs do.
@@toastno6 Thank you! I have ares l1a1 too, but my gun's nozzle is broken .. Is the other electric guns compatible with the nozzle? and Can you tell me if the gears and pistons are compatible with other electric guns?
It's a modfied V3 gearbox so I would guess that it'll take stock internals, I've read in other places that it takes standard v2/3 gears/pistons etc etc, so for those you should be good (again I don't know, just what I've heard). I've no idea about the nozzle either I'm afraid, all I would recommend is to try to compare the broken one to others you may have kicking around. I read that the hop is the same as the PTS Masada but I can't verify that. Good luck, let me know if you find anything out!
I'll see what I can do. We've got a few games coming up but I'm stuck with my DSLR to film with and if I try to mount that on my head I'll break my neck so I can't promise anything!
for anyone considering buying an Ares l1a1 please do not do it. Everything in the gun is proprietary including the gearbox, hop-up unit and even the magazines. the gearbox is thin as paper and will crack if you look at it wrong, and the hop up comes with a super crappy nub and bucking that will puncture with regular light use. You WILL NOT be able to fit a regular version 3 gearbox in this thing even though the one Ares puts in here is remarkably similar to a version three. the hop up sways left and right in the gun and just straight up cannot provide hop to get the bbs very far at all. This gun is also the most inaccurate gun I've had the displeasure of owning and the only real solution to this gun being actual literal garbage is if you HPA it which would run you $1000 US on top of the $530 you spent on the rifle if you got the plastic Funiture. This thing is legit a 250-dollar gun when it comes to internals and the only thing that can even start to justify this gun being almost 600 dollars after tax and shipping is the immaculate quality of the externals, but it's not worth it. This is the worst gun I've ever owned and in order to even make it function you'd need to spend at least 1k American. Terrible, terrible rifle all around.
King Arms hands down. It’s lighter, it handles better, it has an 8mm bearing v3 gearbox, most body parts are actual parts,,not moulded like the Ares. Everything about it just screams quality. Downside was that it was a bit fragile. Both shoot really well but whereas my KA was my primary for literally years I ended up getting rid of the Ares because it was heavy and cumbersome.
Just wish King Arms would reintroduce them
Wish granted, it comes out this year
I have one KA L1A1myself too, I love mine as well hope to see more people like us ^^ pls KA to bring back L1A1 +1 ^^

Great review - Really want one of these with wood furniture.
Brilliant review.
The reciever of my ares snapped. Shitty injection molded zinc alloy. I hope King Arms reissues their one

Any idea where I could pick up a King Arms FAL/L1A1?
really coooooollllll video !!!!
Please light the 'stage' so we can see. You have light behind you, cteating shadows which exacerbates the problem.
May i have a question ?
Sure!

Can you do a gameplay video using the L1a1
I'll see what I can do. We've got a few games coming up but I'm stuck with my DSLR to film with and if I try to mount that on my head I'll break my neck so I can't promise anything!
