It has to be absolute torture to be that big. Andre was a pretty kind man despite it. I think the story of him warming Robin Wright's head with his enormous paw on the set of Princess Bride is about the cutest thing ever.
There is a documentary about Andre and it covered how the hurt he felt mentally from being as big as he was. He could never go to a play which is something he always wanted to do. Also even though Andre had a number of friends and people who showed him respect people who didn't know him would ridicule him and insult him if he was at a restaurant or bar.
While that crossed my mind, it's not like he was trying to live a normal life while being huge. His whole career, all his fame, and his name itself, all centered around being a giant.
To be fair, this type of promotion wasn't as prominent as social media is today. If you got on TV, it would be ridiculous not to make a big deal of his size - no pun intended. That was his gimmick after all.
@@claiminglight also, he could've chosen to have a surgery that will stop him from growing further and he declined it. So, he liked the fact that he was a giant.
We must have been watching two different interviews, Dave mocked his size and embarrassed him on national television. Andre deserved the respect everyone else got.
Pretty sad to see him hesitate to answer the questions about life after wrestling. He knew his body wasn't built for the long haul. Poor guy, but legend
Last match on the card that night as WWF MSG cards usually had a match that didn’t have a feud go last.Main events were usually in the middle of the card.(On this night Hogan/Iron Sheik had two matches follow them)
Letterman ended up being in the middle of two of pro wrestling's biggest days in the first few years of his show: The Kaufman-Lawler conflict and then interviewing Andre here, the same day/night of the historic first crowning of Hulk Hogan as WWF champion.
Andre was on the card that night as well wrestling in a tag team match that was the final match on the show. Main Events didn’t go last in those days at MSG.
@@toudi_p My beer can is does not have metric on the can lol, it is 12 FL OZ. It is light beer and only 3.6% ABV. The fastest I have polished off a 30 rack is in about 12 hours in one sitting!
This is how you knew wrestling was fake before they ever admitted to it. He could have crippled any man he was in the ring with before they were through with the introductions.
When I watched Andre the Giant in the ring with Big John Stud or even on Piper's Pit you can tell he is large, but he is standing amongst other large people. But when you see him next to average size human like David Letterman who is 6' 2' then you understand how much of a behemoth and giant he really was. OMG!
May he rest in peace. Good thing he was not born a few decades earlier in North America and then somebody caught him in North America while thinking when he was wearing fur pants and a fur hoodie that he was, "Big Foot" "Big Foot" to go with a dance troop of women [vixen] who can dance like a top from their heads down.
Boy how I miss the old days of late night tv Leno,Carson and letterman just look at the crap they have now SNL went downhill in late 90s never came back what a loss :(
Andre hat Leute, die mit einem VW flüchten wollten eingeholt, den Wagen gehoben und umgekippt 👍 Idioten, die ihn beleidigt haben, Bud Spencer of France 🏆
Not at all. He was easy going and willing to laugh at himself and he laughed at your jokes and made jokes of his own. This dude seems super easy to interview. Unless you want someone who does all the work for you and you dont even have to ask any questions.
Man had everything he wanted just because he was big. First class flights. King size beds. He got paid because of his size other than that he would not have had anything to offer this world. Just a big guy.
He was the epitome of the "gentle giant"; rest in peace Mr. Andre!
It has to be absolute torture to be that big. Andre was a pretty kind man despite it. I think the story of him warming Robin Wright's head with his enormous paw on the set of Princess Bride is about the cutest thing ever.
That's why he drank so much... it was self-medicating

A true legend. There will never be another Andre. I remember watching him wrestle, and always pulled for him to win.
Me
What a gentleman he was. I miss him.
I’ve never seen an interview with Andre!
What a classy dude! (and super patient with Letterman)
He must’ve gotten so sick of the “LMFAO you’re so big!” All the time, yet he comes across very gracious and good natured.

Dave loves to play a character and provoke people but he was so polite to Andre, such a real side of them both.
We must have been watching two different interviews, Dave mocked his size and embarrassed him on national television. Andre deserved the respect everyone else got.
Dave looks really wierd now
Pretty sad to see him hesitate to answer the questions about life after wrestling. He knew his body wasn't built for the long haul. Poor guy, but legend
The shear size of the man was just incredible. I mean he makes Letterman look like a child. 😳
R.I.P. BIG MAN, you are truly missed. 🙏🏻❤
Andre was such a nice man, and funny, princess bride legend
I love the fact that the guys at Letterman accommodated him with such a "nice chair." You can tell it meant a lot to him.
Such a gentle soul
A giant boy. RIP Andre. Always missed.
Dave: “ Who are you wrestling tonight?“
Andre: “Me, Tony Atlas, and the Rock’s dad will fight the three Samoans”.
... will fight three of Rock's uncles."

Gentle giant. Legend.
January 23, 1984 - a most historic day in pro wrestling history!
... brother! 💪💯
This episode was 1/23/82 or 1/23/84
@@Kent933 Google says 1984.
I met him once when I was around 5years old ....when I seen him I was so scared I ran and hide under a table R.I.P. Andre The Giant
Wow, I would love for him to still be around. What an amazing man. He had the joie de vivre that everyone is drawn to.
Letterman wrote a book called "Passive Aggressively Condescending"
What a beautiful soul. Rip Andre. 🙏

He didn't want to pick up Letterman because his back was messed up and he was in constant pain. Sweet guy.
He was amazing.
I'm 240 pounds and can drink a 30 pack of beer in one sitting, beers per pound of bodyweight he would crush me. What a great man he was!
Because he could outdrink you?
@@p0llenp0ny That and all the other documentaries I've read about how kind he was.
My record is 22 and it was a mistake! I can’t even imagine 30 beers let alone 100+ 😂

After seeing him in the princess bride, he is a gentle giant that can hit like a freight train. This is the same in this interview.
He mentioned he was wrestling with Rocky Johnson, that's The Rock's daddy!
What a gentle giant!
ANDRE THE GIANT!
His soul also was giant.
1 in a million old andre was , the definition of a big teddy bear.
Watched him growing up as a kid. Monster.
He seem like a really nice guy
R.I.P. legend!
Rest in peace legend
Damn i miss Andre nothing was the same when he left us just like the rest of the legends ❤
His head is about 3 times bigger than Dave’s. Physically lol
This is how you knew wrestling was fake before they ever admitted to it. He could have crippled any man he was in the ring with before they were through with the introductions.
@Comedy Room nah. It’s fake.
@@evenflowsteven grey area. though scripted, it's not a low impact activity by any means. it takes a serious toll on the wrestlers.
Please stop. This is embarrassing. Go talk to someone who´s ever been in the ring, then come back and continue the conversation.
Good days and fun times
He reminds me of Richard Keil. Both of them were huge men with huge hearts.
He was great in princess bride!
The card that David is talking about is the same card where Hulk Hogan beat the Iron Shiek to win his first World Title.
As a fellow (much larger)tall, he must have hurt a lot. Sweet big guy. ❤
I love his voice

It's like seing an interview with The Hulk
So many people that died over the years. What a after life to see and not see
"Anybody want a peanut?" 🥜
BAH!
He is huge!
Ya think?!
Aw, that was so sweet!
My friend met him once in Quebec and shook his hand. He said he felt like a two year old shaking a grown man’s hand.
Anybody want a peanut?
BAH!
Just gave this video its 117 like!
Interview happened on the same night Hulk Hogan won the title from The Iron Sheik at MSG.
Legend
Unbelievable how big that dude was. He looks like he could put Dave's whole head in his mouth like some lion tamer trick.
Image drinking brews with Andre
At first glance , I thought the cast was his beer stein.
May he rest in peace. Now this is a man who uses a Pringles can for a condom.
When Andre the Giant sits around the house he sits around the house

Hulk Hogan beat the Iron Sheik for the WWF championship this same night
I grew up too late. (96)
R.I.P MY FAVORITE WRESTLER OF ALL TIME.
He once crushed a friend of mines couch.
Letterman looks like a toothpick! 🤣
This dude's size(not just height, but also width) is unreal. He looks like a bear disguising himself as a human being.

We want The Donz!
Dave was a drunk too he and Robin Williams drank together
Dont think anybody can drink that many beers.
Man, nothing off the rack for this dude. Even his underwear had to be custom made.

How big was he when he came out of his mom?! Had to be cesarean.
13 lbs, so much larger than average. but his condition was caused by an overactive pituitary gland, which made him grow over time through his life.
What a horrible interviewer. "What's it feel like to be that big"? Geez, I'm sure he's never heard that one before
Man had everything he wanted just because he was big. First class flights. King size beds. He got paid because of his size other than that he would not have had anything to offer this world. Just a big guy.
He probably would have more to offer than ppl that judge a book by its cover.....js
That’s pretty stupid. Who knows what he would’ve been if he hadn’t been hampered by his size.
