HE was like a big golden retriever ... just want to be loved.
I was just thinking the same thing... a big loveable puppy that brought everyone joy! You are missed so much, Chris!
Love Chris 💘
Well said.
Great analogy.
Just like a golden retriever he had a crippling cocaine addiction
You don’t hear many people say “yes sir” in an interview. He was so polite and so loveable. I wish we could have all given him a giant hug. He was a key part of the early 90’s.
He also loved and respected Dave tremendously
Christopher Reeve was like that.
Chris was from the midwest. Salt of the earth ❤
he was clearly dying; you watched a mans suicide 5:29
The dude had no loving parents to discipline him, He had no boundaries. The Weight watchers ice cream story, says it all.
That’s why it’s good to Have born again Christian parents, they should know better; the Christian parents!
Proverbs: “spank a child, he will not die”. That means he won’t die young.
He really was such a gentle giant. Never offensive, never mean, never angry. Just funny.
He was in a class of his own. It’s been 25 years since we lost him, but I still find myself searching online for clips and enjoying every moment I can.
Giant? He was like 5’5 what are you blabbering about?
His movies are great.

A funny guy will fall back in their chair once. A legend does it twice . Rip Big guy. We miss ya
Truth was told.
That was hysterical
He kissed him. To tell him him he loved him and to let him know it's okay. That was so sweet.
This is one of the few interviews that Dave is laughing so hard! You can tell he really liked Chris and recognized his raw talent.
Yep. It makes me laugh and sad. What a lovely man.
i saw him come out to do a bit, on some tv late niter curtain/stage - he worked up to an exploding laugh, then pulled it in, to bring it down to a heartfelt crying ...in just minutes! THE MOST AMAZING THING I EVER SAW (and im an actor)
The 2 guests that made Dave laugh the hardest were Chris Farley and norm MacDonald.
@@kidwave1 exactly!
Farley was the best! I don't care that he had a drug problem.. life is a bastard sometimes.. we all make mistakes! I wish a had a bud like him In life! Great guy!
Watching this, I sensed that Letterman was genuinely fond of Farley, and that Farley was in legit awe of Letterman. That was sweet to see.
"I'VE BROKEN YOUR EQUIPMENT!" .. Has been a line I've used with various previous employers.
If there was any comedy justice, this guy would've lived forever. A sweet soul in an explosion of hysterical chaos.
Ppl have different sides
@@briancannon3987 Farley had many different sides. It would have taken a while to walk around him and see them all 😝
It wasn't comedy justice, the cocaine justice overruled it.
He and Belushi. Always full blast.
@@culbyj3665 we stand by our comment :)
My face is sore from grinning the whole video. Chris Farley was such a good human being. Reminds me of this Norm MacDonald quote. "It's one thing to make people laugh, it's another to make people smile." RIP Chris. You'll always be one of comedy's most loveable people.
I'm grinning too from ear to ear😁😁
I’ve broken your equipment!!
hahahaha same, RIP Chris and Norm!
I was literally about to comment that! I watched the entire video with a smile on my face and didn't realize it until it was over and my face was aching!
that is an amazing insight
You can tell that Dave genuinely gets a kick out of Chris.
Man how could you not!!
Mind sharing with us anyone who doesn't?
@@dangerous8333 Leno
He-he-he
Who doesn't get a kick out of watching Chris Farley??!
That was a real person there. RIP Mr. Farley
This is heartbreaking. Chris had an endearing, sort of-innocence about him. There’s a childlike wonder in his eyes. His enthusiasm when talking about making Tommy Boy and working with David Spade is so genuine. He looks at Dave with such adoration. It’s almost like, whether it’s talking to Letterman, or being in SNL, or making Tommy Boy, he doesn’t think he deserves to be there, but he’s so happy that he is. What a guy…
Very well said! Chris Farley was a rare gem.
Norm Macdonald said Chris was the funniest guy he ever met. High praise indeed.
I knew he didn't burn down that building!
@@smwrbd wow. That show would have definitely been a head trip!
Think about how a bump of cocaine took him and everything he had away
Never have I seen Dave so giddy with a guest…Chris lived a month in each day and poured his heart into every moment - all we can say is thank you 😢
Chris looked so anxious you just want to hug him. What a talent and what a sweet guy.
Lol he was probably wired on blow
@@Nasdupree9090 absolutely.
I haven't seen a video of him in a long time. I forget just how adorable & brilliantly funny he was.
Dave does what any elder is meant to do: support the young come-ups. Legend.
I was driving home on a college break and I heard on the radio that Chris passed. I pulled over and went on a walk. Farley is a national treasure. Watch his hands during the interview. He was so nervous wringing them. I hope he understood that his hero, Dave, respected him.
I was 26 when I came home from work that day and had a date planned with this girl I met online --- when the 6:30pm national news came on and announced that Chris died, I immediately went into a funk and cancelled the date --- one of the few celebrity deaths that affected me like that
Yeah, i noticed the hand-wringing. Makes him all the more endearing, somehow.
@@fredwerza3478 respect
Yes, he was definitely a comedian like no other. My whole family was dejected when we all heard the news. He was someone everyone enjoyed watching.
The hand wringing was probably cocaine related, which makes me sad that he wasn’t able to clean up his act before it was too late. He’d definitely still be making stellar movies for today’s generation.
He was so happy to be on the show, I can feel it through the screen, a true humble man, legendary.
I miss Chris Farley so much. He feels like an older brother that died to me.
I haven't laughed at an interview this hard in a long time, man...how I miss Chris Farley
His physical comedy was gold. As was his ability to add emotion.
I really love how Dave expresses how nice Chris is, the kiss is lovely. His parents must be so proud of their children.
His father passed away just 15 months after him, in March 1999.
His energy seemed like it was going to make his body explode at any second. There will never be another Chris Farley.
How I always want to remember Chris Farley.
Dave hated people who "put on airs" --- he loved Chris because he was just a lovable funny guy from Wisconsin --- Dave could relate!
When in doubt, pinky out
Wisconsin ❤ for Chris Farley
he seems very chill and calm and collected
There were hushed rumors that occasionally he partook of cocaine, but I don't believe it for a second.
It was a slow day.
I wouldn't use any of those words to describe him in this interview LOL, but he was a very sweet guy.
@@QuantumBraced I’m guessing you didn’t get the sarcasm.
@@TheDizzleHawke Oh LOL no I didn't.
Chris was such a genuine soul.
Awe, Chris. He was such a talent! I really appreciate that David Letterman treated him so kindly-especially that kiss he planted on him.
That was a lovely moment. Chris’s expression was pure delight
When I found out Chris carried a Clown's Prayer around with him after his death it broke my heart. What a lovely, hilarious personality! Always giving 110%!
I have never, ever seen Dave get touchy with a male guest, probably the only time you'll see this
Except of course for the "johnson" he gave to Richard Simmons off set.
The love, respect, and admiration between Letterman and Norm Mcdonald is also very sweet to see. ✌!
@@jordanwright6628 for sure.
Man he was so funny. What a legend.
That was absolute gold!!! Chris was an astronomical talent that we lost far too soon. If there is no afterlife, we are all fortunate that his energy lives on through UA-cam.
If UA-cam is the afterlife the kitties have won, it seems.
Interesting, the song the band played at the start I remember was Can't Turn You Loose (the Blues Brothers intro theme, where Belushi also did a cartwheel). Seems it's swapped out here though for copyright. Shame
You beat me to the punch in wanting to talk about this! Yea, that song edit was too noticable for me to NOT pause and find another post of this clip so I could find what the band originally played. As a Chicagoan, it saddens me that The Blues Brothers intro theme couldn't be used on an official David Letterman clip.
I feel like if you can't get rights to the music, don't post it on the official Letterman channel with that horrible edit. Not worth it mainly because you can't hear Farley screaming and the audience cheering and clapping. The music I can take or leave, but that audio of everyone screaming is priceless.
@@billcramer4231 I think the video quality upgrade is worth the upload. could easily just swap out that part for the audio of a vhs rip already on youtube
I'm just in tears watching this - Chris is so full of life, such a force of nature and explodes with so much sweetness. I'm thankful for the all too brief time we had him on this planet and grateful for the humor he left behind to continue to make our lives better.
Ive never watched this and not experienced every level of laughter. From hillarious, to outrageous fist pump to awwww how cute, to bubbling chuckles Chris can make a human laugh like no other.
Chris Farley may have went by like a giant bright flaming comet but wherever he is I hope he knows he still makes people feel good when they are down and laugh for a few minutes when all seems lost.
What else greater thing to do in the short or long time a person has on this earth. The big ol man boy that is timeless laughter.
Thanks Chris.
Chris Farley has got to be in the top ten all time funniest people
Easily. No doubt.
Please don't read his book --- it will make you sad how Chris thought of himself
@@tommitchell7294 Some of the funniest people are often the most tragic in terms of what they carry on their souls. It's really such a heartbreaking dichotomy.
@@HollywoodLito that's why reading Chris's book broke my heart --- he had such poor self esteem and never realized how many people loved him
@@tommitchell7294 So unfortunate. He's one of my comic heroes- has been for decades.
The love and respect between them is palpable. Makes me so happy.
Chris Farley was so funny. Such a joy. Wish he’d taken better care of himself. Great clip. Thanks for posting.
I wish other people had taken better care of him too. Tough to take care of yourself when everyone is calling you a fat clown all the time. Lovely soul gone too soon.
True
Chris had such a huge heart and love for everyone
@J P Holman He was the Yin to John Candy’s Yang. (Or vice versa). Both are missed.

Love the genuine laughter and delight from Dave! Also enjoyed Chris’s immediate self-critiques after he determined whatever he said had fallen flat. Very entertaining! I really miss Letterman. There was a void after he left that has never been filled. I didn’t fall into a deep depression like I did after Johnny retired, but seeing Dave go was hard. Being able to view all these clips is like a breath of fresh air!
Craig Ferguson was the one I truly miss and my favorite talk show host ever

Farley was one of a kind. So much life in such short time. Incomprehensible.
What a character!!!! Hands down, one of the best SNL cast members ever.
Although others had longer tenure..Farley was the best!

I don't think he'd be much of a guide. Fun drinking buddy but that's bout it
I can't get over the cartwheels! So funny. 😆

This is so sweet. David could immediately see the lost little boy inside Chris who was always there right beneath the surface.
When Chris said he loves the movie and hopes that people really like it, I actually paused the video on a still shot of his face at felt like I had to tell him that the movie is that of legends and that everybody and their mother loves and will always love it, and that I wish you were here to see how much joy you truly bring people in their everydaylife❤️RIP to the goat 🐐

I absolutely adored Chris growing up, watching him on SNL and Tommy Boy will always be one of my top favorite movies. When I was in high school in the 90's, people used to tell me I was like a little Chris Farley, which I was proud of. When he passed, I was so sad. It stuck with me for a long time. I have a couple of documentaries about him and the ends always bring me to tears. You can tell he was a sweet, loving guy. I just wish that I had had the chance to meet him before he passed.

He was truly someone special. Think that’s why he had to go in a way. We love him even more now and hopefully learned not to maybe do what Chris did in terms of abuse.
The first time I saw Tommy Boy our driving instructing teacher introduced it as a brake pad documentary. Imagine the joy of watching such a funny movie to break up the monotony that was high school. Chris was the best R.I.P.
Your driving instructor is a MVP.
The sweetest and most genuine interview given by Dave. He LOVED Farley...so obvious!
I love it so much when Letterman really gets giddy and on a roll with a new talent on the show. If I had one great wish, it would be to make Dave laugh like that.
Anybody else watch Farley in his prime and genuinely become sad or depressed afterwards? Ugh!
What a legend of a person...
When i c Chris, i see a man in pain. He DESPERATELY wanted to be liked. His mind set was “I’m gonna make fun of me b4 they do”. Its a defense mechanism. Wish he loved himself more. He would probably be around today. On a comedy note, he was great on SNL. He was just scratching the surface of what he was gonna do. He was gonna do the Fatty Arbuckle story and he was the original voice for “Shrek” too.
Comedy often comes from a place of insecurity and pain, and Chris is no exception. If only he could have realized how much other people adored him, or if someone intervened when it was obvious that he couldn’t keep himself under control.
The voice recording of him doing Shrek is available on UA-cam and it's brilliant. Him as Fatty would have been amazing!
I wish people would just enjoy his antics rather than Analyzing the guy.
