      Lakers have the oldest roster in the history of the NBA. Many of the players on the roster are way past their prime and are too slow to play defense and will not improve with age. Who among these old timers could improve beyond below average defenders: Ariza, Augustin, Bazemore, Ellington, Howard, Melo, LeBron, Westbrook?
      AD shot 18% from 3-pointers this season. As a team the Lakers were below average shooters: 20th in the NBA in 3pointer%, 20th in the NBA in rebounding, 23rd in the NBA in defensive rating and 29th in the NBA in free throw%. Lakers need younger, better shooters, rebounders, and defenders.

    What makes the 2022 Lakers worse is that if the NBA had never put the play in tourney in, their season would've been over about two months ago. And you can claim injury but the Clippers are actually the 8th seed clear by 4 games minus their stars all year.

      @@fucuszullanti7877 that’s not what he’s saying. He’s saying that whole injuries can be a reason a team doesn’t do what’s expected, they should still at least make the playoffs. And as far as injuries go the Lakers had it easy if Lebron and Russ were the main guys. If you’re hinging your season on AD being healthy, then that’s a really bad sign of where the organization is headed cause AD will always be a liability due to his injuries

Trading away or letting our young talent walk in favor of older veteran players was never a good idea to me, especially when the Lakers were officially the oldest team in the NBA on average. I didn't want the Lakers to get Westbrook, I wanted them to go after Hield or DeRozan and they had the ability to do so but of course LeBron and Westbrook are besties so the Laker front office wanted to please LeBron more than worrying about team fit. And it was thanks to Westbrook's big contract that they can only offer veteran minimums or two-way contracts to their bench players, which is why their bench was nothing but old and slow vets & former Lakers. In the end, I expected them to at least make the play-in but they couldn't even do that. Media crowned them finals contenders, but anyone with a sniff of how roles work on a team could tell you that this experiment wasn't gonna work. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess

    Could have thrown another Laker team in there...the Shaq, Kobe, Malone, and Payton team. Sure they made the finals, but they were heavily favored to beat a Pistons team, with nowhere near the superstars...and they lost in 5

    Maybe not one single season was more disappointing, but the collective seasons of the Lob City Clippers has been super extreme. They couldn't even make it out of the 2nd round.
    Dallas Mavs getting the 1 seed and then losing to the Baron Davis led 8th seed Warriors was pretty disappointing if you take into account that they looked like title favorites going into the first round. The Lakers were pretty much a train wreck from start to finish so I think the climax of the disappointment wasn't as great as that Mavs team, but I suppose the totality of disappointment was greater given it was an entire season's worth instead of just 1 series.

    I was really disappointed when DeMarcus cousins joined any team and they didnt immediately become over powered. He was sooo good in Sacramento and then he joins up with the warriors, lakers, and pelicans with AD. All of these teams should have been so good but boogie just was never himself again after injuries and had almost no impact.

I still think this year’s lakers might have them best though. Very close imo.

    7:11 A few notes on the 1999 Rockets since I've been a big fan of the team since the early 90s. They had a rookie backcourt(Mobley, Dickerson), a weak bench, and Pippen was coming off his second back surgery. They were definitely a disappointment, no doubt. Rudy T never integrated Pippen into the offense and instead utilized him like he was Robert Horry. And they choked away Game 1 against the Lakers(thanks to an awful Pippen turnover) and never recovered. But in retrospect, they were not gonna beat the Spurs, Blazers, or Jazz had they advanced.

    The 2013 Nets actually fell off, that was funny. That stint was good for Brooke Lopez. However I didn't think they were gonna go anywhere tbh because they were missing Ray Allen and Rondo. They got 1/4 of a big 3 and D. Will hadn't been good since before the Olympics, he sucked in them, I remember him being good on the Jazz. Same with Joe Johnson, after he left the Hawks he started disappearing. That was back when once a player left a team they were on a for a while, they probably were gonna fall off.

    While we all knew the 2021-22 Lakers would win the title of "biggest disappointment", I believe the only factor that needed to be mentioned was that no other team in NBA history that's failed this spectacularly had a player many regard as the GOAT. As great as Kobe was no one would ever accuse of him being better than Jordan.
    With LeBron holding the mantle of "king", GOAT and taunting people with this "keep that same energy" tweet, it's only appropriate that this Lakers team be deemed the biggest disappointment and most embarrassing finish in NBA history.

    That 99 Rockets team was one of the ugliest teams I have ever watched, and I saw them a lot since I lived in Houston at the time. Just Barkley and Olajuwon taking turns running down the shot clock backing guys down in the post and it seemed like half of Pippen's shots would be him having to throw up a desperation three at the end of the shot clock when Barkley or Olajuwon couldn't get the shot they wanted on the block. I really felt bad for Pippen being made into a spot up shooter in that offense and was so glad to see him go to Portland where he could play entertaining basketball again.

    I think the NBA media played a big role in the disappointment of this Lakers team, bc they MASSIVELY overinflated their ceiling and expectations. I don't get the impression that any fan, outside of the biggest Lakers homers really saw a dominant, prohibitive title favorite in this collection of talent. This got worse and worse as so many of them just kept doubling down as the season progressed and we all could see the team falling apart. I think Lebron deserves the most blame, not as a player, but bc he defacto built this team to what it is now, but the media gets a (dis)respectful 2nd.

    Sure, the Nets gave up a lot back then just to totally bust, but lets not forget that the Lakers gave up a lot of young promising talent as well. Maybe not to Jayson Tatum's level, but great pieces to build a long term roster around. Unfortunately, the Lakers wanted to shortcut the process for an aging LeBron James who needed to win sooner than later.

  • @Sai4651
    @Sai4651 2 роки тому

    I have to strongly disagree with the 2013 Nets being the biggest disappointment, yes they were a disappointment, but nowhere near the Lakers. The Nets were able to make it as the 6th seed and upset the 3rd seed Toronto Raptors in a 7 game series, and at least make it to the 2nd round. Also, keep in mind that Brook Lopez only played 17 games that year and missed the playoffs because of a broken foot. Deron Williams had an insane amount of ankle injuries that he was playing through during the 2013-14 season that he just played through instead of getting surgeries, eventually he got those surgeries, but it was too late. It's why Deron Williams had a huge drop off with the Nets, he played through his ankle injuries and was never the same because of it.

    I don’t like the way we just concede to the thought that the Lakers were championship favorites. The fanbase was COMPLETELY torn about the Russ trade with the fit being absolutely horrible and what we gave up, and the injuries get *seriously* thrown under the cover in this situation. Injuries are the reason we’re even on this list. We would’ve at least won 40 something games

  • @cwhitney1972

    Defining what you mean specifically by disappointing would have been good. Certainly the Finals-predicted Lakers being a shitshow throughout most of the season is one valid way of looking at it, but I think the 1993-4 Supersonics, who went 63-19, got home court for the entire playoffs, and then promptly shit the bed in the first round, becoming the first #1 seed to lose to a #8, would be another valid way of looking at it. With that being the first year after Jordan retired for the first time, that was the best chance that franchise ever had to win the title and they went out like absolute chumps.

    2013 Lakers, are not tiny bit less disappointing, they are less disappointing by a mile. 2013 Lakers biggest problem was coaching. They were team with no shooters, and someone appointed dantoni, to play with two centers. that was the biggest problem of all

  • @killerfoxes2909
    @killerfoxes2909 2 роки тому

    I actually agree here first off. They could be called the most disappointing team in comparioson to general fan consensus on their potential. I said they were a second round out before the season...so.....to me they were disappointing still (after all hard to see this team at this point even making the second round)...but when I compare that to 2013, where I very much thought the Lakers were a Finals contender (I didn't have them garunteed, but a Finals contender), I'd say the 13 Lakers were more disappointing to me personally. Also, and this one is heavily biased, but as a Tracy McGrady fan in the mid 2000s lol, those Rockets teams. Like I thought T-Mac would be possibly going to a Finals...and 1st round exits repeatedly? Super disappointing. I also think there was an undersell on the late 90s Rockets. So I know the Rockets went to the conference finals in 97, but when Hakeem, Barkley, and Drexler (all guys who were like top 5 players at some point in the careers...I know Drexler's top 5 status was well past) I thought again, that they would get to the finals or win a title, and having just...one year of a conference finals appearance. Twas very disappointing. Still if I was to pick the most disappointing team where my expectation was so severely wrong, it would the be the 2013 Lakers. Thoguht they were title contenders. 2022 Lakers to me were never title contenders, so the disappointment doesn't compare. I thought people were frankly foolish to think that Westbrook and LeBron were gonna mesh well. I thought the trade was idiotic. No way I thought trading for Dwight Howard was foolish in 2013. I thought the Lakers were geniuses then.

    AD was crap defensively the whole year, injured 8 times ffs, Westbrick had a horrible year as usual and the role players were mediocre at best. Melo and Monk showed promise at start but it faded out. THT didn't pan out as they hoped and injuries derailed the majority of the season. LeBron imo did his best for his age and at this moment in his career. I didn't expect him to carry a bunch of scrubs into the playoffs but missing the play in makes them one of the worst teams ever assembled.

It was really just a bunch of old guys that can't play defense mixed with a LeBron that hasn't actually carried a team on his own in a few years. Plus AD who's really good but u can't rely on to stay healthy, and of course the Russ thing which has been discussed to death. By the time April is over that Spot may be taken by the 2022 Nets.
    A team that entered the season with 3 top 15 players (one of them top5) and with really heavy expectations since they were one game away from beating the champions despite injuries,will likely close this season with a first round exit. I know there's still a small chance the Nets actually have a good playoff run this year (and i really hope so because both KD and Kyrie are among my favourite players, especially Kyrie). But if that doesn't happen they have to be on that list.
    It's crazy that this level off failure is truly unprecedented but the Nets are a stone's throw away from achieving it, we might have the 2 most disappointing teams ever the same season
