@StrangeFacinations She's just out of control, not a functioning alcoholic by any means. She drinks a 1.75 liter of vodka daily with at least 2 four lokos and has been drinking like this since 2013. She no longer showers for weeks on end, gets dressed, drives, works, cooks, cleans. I don't know what to do anymore but it's made me so depressed cause I had $375,000 in savings when we got married in 2020, bought a $200k house in cash so she didn't have to stress about bills and it's only gotten worse. She used to be funny, vibrant, beautiful, etc...now I'm embarrassed to be seen with her in public because she can barely walk 90% of the time & is always slurring her speech. I need Al Anon. Congrats on making improvements yourself, I'd give anything. I've tried home healthcare, nanny's, tough love, praying, nothing seems to help but I lost my last job over having to call off taking care of her. It's a nightmare
I thought Requiem for a Dream was way over the top. Yeah, we get it, Aronofsky, drugs are bad. But I think Ellen Burstyn's performance was brilliant. She should have won the Oscar over Julia Roberts.
Her storyline was the most disturbing to me of the 4 of them. Everyone talks about Jennifer Connolly, but honestly hers was the least disturbing because she could easily come back from and move on from her scenario. The rest could not.
I’m a nurse. I have had patients who were 400+ pounds. All of them got there from experiencing something traumatic or painful in their lives that sent them spiraling. I think the Whale is very real in the sense that nobody (in my experience) intentionally became that heavy. They were all dealing with tragedy and severe depression in their own lives that became compounded by their extreme weight gain and became trapped in the cycle. It’s a difficult watch because it makes the audience face the idea that a person who is extremely obese is still human with real emotions and a complex life. It’s easy to write them off as lazy and sloppy but the Whale points right at the reality that we don’t know what someone is ever actually going through that got them to that point.
This was how my dad was when he dealt with his obesity. He had chronic back pain from a car accident and I'm pretty sure he dealt with depression. He tried weight loss surgeries, diets, etc but the medications he was on and turning to food for comfort really were big contributors. He was the smartest guy I knew with a sharp sense of humor. He was more than his weight 💔
Agreed, but now there are activists and advocates openly stating being dangerously overweight is actually healthy ... and to say otherwise is 'fat shaming' ... I've watched many of these activists arguing this with doctors on live TV. This will end badly
@@0Funker0 I have seen that movie and I agree that it’s very disturbing. 😳 The comparison between street drugs and prescription drugs is chilling. The end scene left me horrified.
I watched all the movies for that year, where the leading actor was nominated for 'Best Actor'. There were some great performances but Brendan Fraser character in 'The Whale' was brilliant. He was my pick for best actor after watching it and wasn't overly surprised that he won that statue. (I liked him in 'Blast from the Past' too, as an aside). :))
We Need To Talk About Kevin was very difficult for me to watch. Good movie but tough to watch. HATED the movie Mother with Jennifer Lawrence too. It not only had disturbing scenes but it just sucked overall.
I loved We Need to talk about Kevin. What could his mother do? Your son is a sociopath he's going to do what they do. People blamed her- which I get. I like how she accepts it. The most touching scene was when one of his classmates just comes up and talks with her- doesn't blame her at all.
“The House of Sand and Fog” nearly broke me. 😭 I could barely speak for an hour after watching it, it was so tragic. The other movie that disturbed me in a totally different way was “Tusk.” JFC. That movie horrified me. I don’t know how Justin Long played his character; I would have had an emotional breakdown.
@ with verve, enthusiasm and a new appreciation for the power of literature and for their teacher. Either that or a mix of resentment and teenage ennui. Honestly, I think many found it too faux naive until the horrifying ending, which certainly left a mark.
I need 2 c it at least can't find it (for free but Seiberian film all over the place free uncensored free every.where.. what's wrong with that in the age of free cinema....if anyone has a link 2 the whole free movie or in parts like youtube...
@@Freedomlives33 it was surreal watching Brendan Fraser act in a 500 pound fat suit. I remember him from his previous movies where he was so in shape going back to Encino Man. He is an amazing actor.
You are right, I agree with your list. A lot of the most disturbing movies are not horror. Irreversible, Climax, Happiness, Soft & quiet, The Celebration, Sick of myself..they will make you very uncomfortable.
The original Martyrs is the worst thing I’ve ever seen. I mean it has things to say, and it’s a very good film, but I will never watch it again. I’m surprised none of these lists ever bring up Event Horizon. The “video logs” from the previous crew in that film scarred me for life. My mom knows how traumatised I was from that and she thinks it’s hilarious to bring it up, but that was literally so traumatizing I’ll NEVER watch that F-n movie again, and I don’t allow it in my house.
Along with 'The Nightingale' being on my list of films I can never watch again, other films on my list are '12 years a slave' and 'Killers of the Flower Moon'. One film I highly recommend that's a revenge film that explores the repercussions of revenge very well is 'Death Sentence'. By the end of the film it broke me.
Mate, I am a die hard horror lover from New Zealand and I don't often say this but you content is ELITE! Don't let Anyone body shame you or bring you to DOUBT yourself due to you body and curves! You are a creative, competent and caring human being and your avatar, though cherished, has NOTHING to do with the creativity and passion that is withheld inside! This is coming from a forensic psychologist with an ed... In time, I've learned to love myself whilst remaining true to the horrific content preferred. You, your partner and this channel are awesome! Don't let anyone bring you down ❤
@splattercastpod your content is awesome and your humanity even better, I always give credit when it is due. Thanks for introducing me to Terrifier and Longlegs 💓
The Girl Next Door 2007 American Mary Repulsion 1965 Deranged May The Afflicted 2010 Landline Goes Click Guinea Pig: Mermaid In A Manhole Here are a few more of my favorites to check out! Hope this helps. ❤️
I had an accuser come out publicly on FB over a decade later stating she lied, finding out why was heartbreaking and infuriating because i wanted to understand what shed been through but she alienated me from everything i knew only being 16 yrs old. Probably gonna pass on the hunt!
I've seen a lot of hard and disturbung moviees but as a father of two little kids, the first half of The Nightingale crushed me to a point where I had to stop the movie and go out for a walk to clear my head.
I can't bring myself to watch the Whale fully despite being a huge Brendan Fraser fan. It hits way too close to home and in that way it feels too disturbing and upsetting movie for me to watch. My dad was morbidly obese and he passed away a month ago now. He struggled with debilitating chronic back problems and he battled with his weight his whole life. My dad was an intelligent man and it hurt so much seeing his health deteriorate in the last couple of years. The scenes ive seen of the movie are just too much for me. Unlike the daughter though I had a close relationship with my dad and I miss him everyday 😢
I'm sorry for your loss. As a child I had to take high doses of cortisone now Prednisone, which I believe is a derivative of it. The side effects were horrendous, and I morphed from a happy, lovely looking girl into a person who looked obese. I'm here I tell you that I was treated horribly and bullied by everyone including teachers. It made a huge impression on me and I realized that body shaming seems to be the last thing that society seems to tolerate. I didn't tell my parents because I didn't want to embarrass them!
It isn't a kill score that truly terrifies, it's story that pierces us to the quick. That's why these sorts of lists always contain a lot of ""thriller"" content and top notch directors.
Enter the Void was a great movie, but it's something I personally just cannot sit through again. Affected me far more than any horror movies I've seen. One of those movies that just leaves you feeling heavy afterwards.
Is that the one where it's all in 1st person and the guy smokes dmt in his room in the opening scene, then goes to meet a drug dealer friend and gets shot and killed while running away amd the whole movie is life flashing before his eyes as his conciousness and life fades? If so that was a great movie, I haven't even thought about it since it came out way back when, and as much as I'd like to give it a rematch your right, idk if it's one i can sit through again, not that its even particularly disturbing(relative to other 1 amd done movies) it's just a gutsy format for a movie and a rather bleak exploration.
"Spoorloos"from 1988 made me uneasy and almost deprived of sleep. Slow, almost no violence on screen. Just a loved one that suddenly disappears when the boyfriende is waiting for her at the car. He searches and searches. For some maybe boring, but it really got to me, and thought of the horror if this happened to me. There's a remake I haven't seen with apparently a difference in the ending. But the dutch (I think) original I don't want to expose myself to again. Very effective though.
Yes, yes! This film has been on my Criterion purchase list for years now... I can't seem to pull the trigger on it though, probably because I saw it already... I rented this movie in high school from Hollywood Video... I remember by the end of it I was incredibly anxious and had large armpit stains and cold, sweaty palms...
The Hunt sounds horribly distubing. It's rare that a child that young would make up a story like that without some kind of provocation. In the interest of trying to protect my son when he was younger, I talked with counselors and therapists who work with child seggs-abuse victims. I'm not saying it never happens. I'm saying when it does, there's something else going on in that kid's life that needs to be examined and rectified. *I am sorry for anyone who has been falsely accused.*
Yes, there are children who are compulsory liars. The lies are sometimes outrageous and downright scary if you think about the implications. I remember from my own childhood that these children would often have very unstable homes and they were maybe looking for attention. I don’t know whether all of them had though. I would not want to accuse parents falsely either. Lies are a scary thing.
In this movie, which was SUPERB, by the way, the little girl gets her lie from overhearing her older teenaged brother make a passing sexual comment. Children see and hear everything, even if you think they are not paying attention, or too young to understand. So, when the main character, Mads Mikkelson, very gently, very age appropriately, and very definitively, refuses her little crush advance, she gets hurts and says something to her parents along the same lines as what she overheard her brother say. It just snowballs from there. And what a ride it is. WOW.
Very occasionally, you just get someone who for no discernible reason is clearly evil. Like the eight year old boy who left a cassette for his grandmother coldly explaining exactly how he was going to cut her throat in her sleep (just one example that sticks with me). Nobody could find any underlying problems with the family. His family just did what they could to keep him appeased to keep themselves alive I guess. But he didn’t quite qualify for being taken into care. Super scary. I often wonder what became of him - and them.
I am seriously not "Disturbed" by much. I picked a Random movie because I liked something the lead actress had been in. I had NO IDEA what I was in for !!! We Need to Talk About Kevin (2011), Is So Disturbing on So Many Levels!!! You Just CAN NOT UN-SEE that one!!! EVER!!!
@@MomeGnome obviously I'm not the one you asked but I loved that film so I'll offer my answer too - I found it slow paced so I understand why it wouldn't resonate with everyone, but it has such a flawless grip on what it's like to be a parent and have a child you want to love but just can't. People who've struggled with PPD will probably get it, the parents of kids who've gone on to do terrible things, yeah, also. The guilt and ambiguous grief you feel when you have a child like Kevin or you have that sort of depression (or both) is very difficult to get your head around let alone explain to others, especially when you have other kids and you only feel that way towards one of them, or only one child goes on to do something terrible. The movie hit me because I felt seen in a unique way.
@@MomeGnome cool story bruh but here's the thing, you asked, you can die mad about the answer. Everyone likes to say they would still love their kids if X Y Z but they've never had to explain to their neighbours why it's not safe to let their kids play alone together. By your own admission you don't relate to the situation, so you'll have to forgive me if I find your condemnation easy to dismiss. At the end of the day art is subjective. I liked WNtTAK and a lot of other people did as well, and that's okay. You didn't, and a lot of other people didn't as well, and that's okay too. You don't have to get into personal attacks over something as subjective as a movie you didn't connect with.
@@MomeGnome I think you'll find I commented on the movie's ability to portray someone in that situation, not that I only liked it because I relate to her. I found her flawed and honestly somewhat insufferable, but it was a captivating character study. Clearly it didn't captivate you and that's okay 🤷 have a great day
@ again you seem to be conflating what was said with what you imagined, but that’s your problem not mine. Not sure why you felt the need to tag me to say as much but that’s cool I’m bored.
Audition. Can't get that movie out of my head to this day, unfortunately 😅. Also, Soft and Quiet but in a very different way. Good message, but you definitely need to be mentally prepared for it.
I love this video! It’s really excellent and made me want to explore the films you discuss. I left a comment (more like a book chapter lol!) on your first Disturbing Films vid, and don’t want to repeat it all here, but . . . I realized there’s one more thing besides your theme music I have to mention and that is “babysitters”. Please choose another group of people. i get it, I really do! Babysitters have a traditionally unfortunate role in horror movies. But it’s creepy af imo. Pick on a group of men instead of, maybe? Clowns, dog walkers, joggers? Maybe? Thank you for your welcoming view on commentary here, Dylan. Wish you and your family peace during the season.
Agree The Nightingale was a grueling, albeit, worthwhile watch. Happiness was one of the most disturbing films I've seen however I've yet to see Michael, and don't think I will . Pedophilia is an area I have difficulty viewing. I get to angry and frustrated by my own sense of helplessness. Anyway, thanks for this review. Will check out more uploads.
A disturbing movie doesn't always have to be gore and shocking scenes. I actually appreciate your take on these films. Sometimes, a great thriller/horror movie just makes you think about it. It just lingers with you. Subscribed!
We have seen that you have a really great channel and your insights help dig into really depraved content and discuss it. It's my opinion that this helps us deal with those parts of ourselves.
Could not agree more with your review on the Whale, 🐋 though it resonated with me on the other side of the spectrum. Body dysmorphia, rears its ugly head in different ways, often in Masochistic & self destructive behavior, like disordered eating, whether it’s binging on food, or denying yourself food, mental illness is complex, it’s coping mechanisms in dealing with trauma is so layered. I’m a male who has struggled with anorexia for years, I found solace in denying myself sustenance, & this movie struck a chord deep within me. 🖤
Second one of your vids and I'm becoming addicted. You have an easy-going, honest approach and you topic is movies which are a long appreciated activity in my life. Never seen any of these but "The Hunt" seems like a nightmare for an innocent man unable to remove himself from a fictionalized accusation. The plot seems horrifying. Could be true-to-life. Everyone would believe the girl because well, she's just a girl(automatically innocent). Even after he proves his innocence he is still persecuted. It sounds like a modern day return to witch hunts, religious inquisitions and the absurdities of weak, hateful thinking. She accuses him of whatever because of her kid crush on this teacher, then punishes him because she can't understand, he's just being a decent human being. Ironic in a way and a nightmare for a man that encounters children in his job whom he hopes to make better people. Keep up the good work!
I'm really happy your first 1 and done list brought me to your channel. I love your movies to watch before...videos. anyway, if you or anyone else here needs some palette cleansers after a disturbing movie, i recommend Muriel's Wedding or Human Traffic.
@bronwyn I am a court reporter, and I used to cover hearings of people that were trying to get their record clean after they had been found innocent of false claims. It doesn't just end once you've been found not guilty or the police have determined you are innocent. By that time you've possibly lost your job, etc. I'm sorry that happened to your family member
@@MomeGnome define ruined. I would say life is tainted more than ruined - you can still recover and live a decent life in spite of it, but it's a trauma, a wound like any other, you'll carry it with you for the rest of your life and you'll never recover from it. You might learn to live with it, like a scar or a limp, but you'll never "get over it".
"Disturbing" is my favorite genre and I appreciate the diversity of themes among the films in this list😊 The Whale made me think of Leaving Las Vegas Oh dang, I forgot about Happiness - I had it on VHS but I don't recall having watched it more than a couple times
@@sashadoom I watched Leaving Las Vegas and I swear that I felt like I was high on drugs for the next few days. I have never experienced a movie like that before or since. It was so bizarre.
Thank you for offering the spoilers for the endings -As I really don't think I would enjoy watching some of the movies mentioned. I haven't heard of any of these movies in this video. I can only imagine how much was "implied" which leaves you thinking about the films after, and not in a good way as it makes you feel badly. I really don't think I would watch 4 of the films you mentioned today, based on your reviews. Curious to hear about them, as you brought them up - and grateful for the spoilers.
I put off watching The Nightingale for a long time because of the reviews that I saw where the reviewers looked genuinely haunted from watching the movie and talking about it. I don't know why, but I decided to watch it this year and while yes, it is heartbreakingly bleak as well as disturbing because, like to much media that really hits in different ways for different people, is people being people. Having watched it, it's almost a comforting movie now to me. I can only imagine how bizarre that reads; let me explain. As a CSA, IPV, SA, DV survivor w/C-PTSD plus a lot of other alphabet soup diagnoses, seeing the reality that so many people experience from a woman's gaze/perspective that intertwines multiple layers of story telling with excellent performances made this movie hold space for me. To see revenge, but also the fall out of that, and the resulting character arc was so good; exactly as you said, yes revenge was achieved, but did Clare gain anything back upon the movie's completion? I think that she did, even if it's not a tangible object like her loved ones lost, so that to me was healing. That's also why I enjoy these lists creators put out and discuss because it may not be the "traditional" horror or what comes to mind with disturbing content, but for someone, that's their "nope" and that's OK. I don't do well with body horror, evil dolls are hard passes, and clowns can fuck right off, but I'm fine with "It"(idk my brain is weird; maybe because Pennywise is an alien it works for me???) whereas I cannot even watch *reactors' videos* of Terrifier or even reviews, just omfg no nope nopeidy no no no. I made the canon event of starting the first one since a someone at work was all "oh no, you'll like it, it's so camp!" and then The. Saw. Scene. happened and I had was unwell. I am pretty sure I then consumed an ungodly amount of Bluey to help cope lol 😭
Jack Frost with Michael Keaton is a film I would never watch again. You don’t get your heartbroken once no you get it ripped apart twice twice completely I would not watch it again, not me.
I HATED how "Michael" just ended...It took any hope that I had left & completely squashed it! Was the boy saved?? Did the mother find him & do something to cover it up?? WTF?!?
Great list. I would add Bergman's Cries And Whispers and everything I've seen by Lars Von Trier although I do occasionally revisit Dogville for its disturbingly cathartic ending.
To me the most disturbing movie ever has to be Spielberg’s A.I. and it has taken me over 10 years or so since seeing it to want to rewatch it. The fate of the A.I characters seem so bleak , that I cried over and over, which I never do no matter how disturbing the movies are. But that one just broke me. I love disturbing movies and I have watched a lot of them. Psychological ones are much more interesting to me than physical horror and I actually hate splatters - but somehow still ended up watching your channel. 😁 Ever since I was a child I’ve been interested of dark matters, probably because of my own tragical childhood. I feel that I don’t want to shy away from the darkness, but embrace it and acknowledge it. Perhaps that way, we can change some things. This has left me to read about real world horrors like concentration camps, dictators, wars, cults, torture etc. I’m sure I will forget great movies from this list, but these were disturbing for me in a way or another. A.I Requiem of a Dream The Hunt Several Todd Solonz’s films like Palindromes Irreversible The Climax The Woodsman 2:37 We need to talk about Kevin Benny’s video Cache The Seventh Continent The New Man (2007) Midsommar Melancholia Dogville House of Sand and Fog (maybe more sad) Grizzly Man The Frozen City (2007) Frozen land (2005) Babel Doubt (one of my favorite films) Letters from Iwo Jima Million Dollar Baby Mystic River Mulholland Drive All Quiet from the Western Front The Iron Cross Flowers of War Schindler’s List Land of Mine When Darkness Falls (2006) The Adversary Lebanon Polisse Safe (1995) Ballad of a Soldier (1960) In the Bedroom Don’t Bother to Knock Casualties of War Snowpiercer Children of Men Manderlay Platoon The Happening Repulsion Hard Candy The Bear (1988) Elephant The Mammoth The Skin I Live In The Seventh Seal Precious The Thin Red Line Antichrist Full Metal Jacket Maria Full of Grace Zone of Interest Ordinary People The only other movie I’ve ever sobbed after watching, and at least 10 minutes which is totally out of character for me, was an animation called The Tale of Princess Kaguya that I watched about two years ago. It was so touching, philosophical and powerful that I was overwhelmed by all kinds of feeling after watching it. Mostly sadness though. And yes, Grave of Fireflies in on my watchlist. For disturbing tv series I would recommend at least The Holocaust, The Handmaid’s Tale and The Killing.
“The Hunt” reminds me of “The Children’s Hour” which was first a play and then a movie starring Audrey Hepburn and Shirley MacLaine. It also involves a false accusation from a child that ruins people’s lives. I think it’s a bit less disturbing and more of a drama classic. You should give it a watch ❤
I just found your channel! Love it! I also think non-horror movies can be far more disturbing, especially the ones based on fact. To know that "real" people are capable of some acts shot on film is far more disturbing than that of fiction.... Keep up the great content!!!
Just Finished watching Nightinggale for the first time it was a incredible movie one of the best ive ever seen i just didnt like the start but the journey they both went on was incredible.Great Recommendation thanks.
One of the movies I own but only watched once was Terry Gilliam's "Tideland"; that one is supposed to represent the resiliency of children, their ability to adapt and overcome some really effed up situations, but it's not an easy one to watch. Not a bad movie...just not one I can sit and watch again. Worth at least one watch, but after that...nah.
My wife and Ioved it. Every single person and critic hated it. I didnt find it depressing... it isnt if you empathize or have had experiences like the little girl. Its a universal movie for imaginative people but boring maybe even cringe to people.
Wow what a list The Whale looks like it will be a rough watch that and happiness and Michael look very disturbing I will have to check all of these films out if I can make it through the movies
Considering the movie " Michael " and depending on how long he had been down there. The human body can survive 3 days without water and up to 3 weeks without food.
The Nightingale was absolutely brutal. It all seemed way too real for me. And I was absolutely furious with the ending! Felt like I’d been completely cheated.
We all have films that are disturbing to us as individuals and I for one am interested and grateful to you for sharing your own personal choices. Life OFTEN sucks! x
I remember watching The Hunt back in high school... I can still remember how much of a provocative and sad watch it was. It's definitely one of those movies I remember being extremely well made, yet I don't know if I could sit through it again. Especially not given that I've matured a lot emotionally since then, and hence would probably find it even more difficult to watch now.
Nightingale was brutally brilliant. Vengeance at its finest. Red, white, and blue is another uncomfortable and brutally disturbing watch, but the revenge is satisfying. Don’t think I’ll ever watch either movie again, but appreciate them both.
Hi, I really enjoy your reviews, I am getting a long list of movies to watch thanks to you😊. I have watched 'Come and See ' which was great but also ' disturbing '. I asked my son if I should watch " A Serbian Film " , he said please don't watch it so that's enough for me 😮. I'm sure I will have more to watch after this new sessions of 'Disturbing movies '. Thanks again, respect from Australia 🇦🇺.
Agreed it kinda depends on what bothers you. A Serbian Film is violent, pornographic, includes child abuse, all sorts, but it's so over the top that it's disturbing the same way something like the Saw films are disturbing. It didn't bother me much at all mostly I found it just kinda sad, because it was easy to remember it was just a movie, you know? Something like say The Devil's Bath or Come and See, they mess with me more because that shit happened. But I mean if gore and fake dongs and the idea of child abuse mess with you more then yeah avoid A Serbian Film lol. It's considered extreme for a reason.
@@MomeGnome im watching horror an Gore movies since 1986 but a SBF is massiv kick in the nuts...it is a great movie yes and thats the point: it is not so "over the top!"
Absolutely agree about The Whale! Truly a brilliant film. We're just watching a family implode, and it was so difficult. I nearly turned the movie off to take a break several times while watching it. I am kinda glad I didn't see it in the theatre. I was ugly crying at the end. Brendan absolutely deserved that Oscar, hands down. I'll be sure to check out the rest of the films, too!
You are overwhelmingly correct: basically, no one is going to experience something the exact same way as someone else. As someone who has personally read "120 Days of Sodom", I can say I didn't really see it so much as "disturbing" as I just saw it repetitive. No, I haven't seen the film and it might be more "disturbing" than the book, but because I know the general context underlying both, it wouldn't be nearly as disturbing to me as, say, for instance, "Requiem For A Dream". As I stated, and you definitely, also, did.... everyone's perception is different.
Hi! I Love this video, this content. It's so interesting and I'm drawn to well done yet disturbing films. I'm a new subscriber 😊 Thank you! Your new friend Kristine
I have an idea for a show called vintage horror classics. You could talk about movies like The Birds, Whatever Happened To Baby Jane, Mommy Dearest, etc.
Mads Mikkelsen STAN here! This was the second film of his that i say at an indie theatre when it came out. Whew! Happiness is a doozy! Made me insanely uncomfortable as well. I also NEVER watch THE NIGHTINGALE again. JESUS.
Idk if I’d call it a horror movie but I definitely wouldn’t call it non-horror. The rape and revenge genre has always been considered a part of horror. It’s easily the most horror on this list.
As a kid, I found the saddest made for mtv, I think, on Matthew Sheppard I couldn’t do that one again. From the other side of the country, I couldn’t figure out if it was based on true story. I was quite young.Good list, from the 3 I’ve come across.
Leaving Las Vegas is too depressing, especially with an alcoholic wife who I fear has given up
I'm so sorry. 🙏🌻💜
Leaving Las Vegas had no point and was not worth seeing or producing
I will pray for strength for the both of you!💔

I thought Requiem for a Dream was way over the top. Yeah, we get it, Aronofsky, drugs are bad. But I think Ellen Burstyn's performance was brilliant. She should have won the Oscar over Julia Roberts.
Ellen Burstyn was magnificent and clearly she was the best actress that year.
Her storyline was the most disturbing to me of the 4 of them. Everyone talks about Jennifer Connolly, but honestly hers was the least disturbing because she could easily come back from and move on from her scenario. The rest could not.
Spoken by an enabler?
Couldn't agree more about the movie and Ellen Burstyn
Kind of fed up with Julia Roberts!

Requiem for a Dream is the most disturbing movie I've ever seen
@@0Funker0 I have seen that movie and I agree that it’s very disturbing. 😳 The comparison between street drugs and prescription drugs is chilling. The end scene left me horrified.
@@pollyfronberry6846Jennifer Connelly should have gotten an Oscar for it.
Absolutely.I don't think I could watch that again, left me feeling numb
I gave a copy to my stepson and daughter in law. They threw it up in the air and shot it.
😅@@DeadGirlRisingStudio
Disturbing movies do not have to be "horror". The Green Mile disturbs me on a personal level.
Same, I can’t watch it again
I agree with that
I loved that movie
I love that movie too! 🥰
Agreed. Some weird flick called “Fantastic Planet” popped up.
A cartoon. An olllld cartoon that won awards. Ugh.
The whale is such a sad movie Brendan Fraser is such an amazing job with this role
One of the best endings ever!
I hated A Clockwork Orange. It was sick and disgusting.
We Need To Talk About Kevin was very difficult for me to watch. Good movie but tough to watch. HATED the movie Mother with Jennifer Lawrence too. It not only had disturbing scenes but it just sucked overall.
Agree on Mother! Ridiculous movie.
I so agree. Excellent film. Difficult to get through..
Mother was good but didn't make sense. Too artsy in its presentation.
@habibio4085 Perfect analysis.
I loved We Need to talk about Kevin. What could his mother do? Your son is a sociopath he's going to do what they do. People blamed her- which I get. I like how she accepts it. The most touching scene was when one of his classmates just comes up and talks with her- doesn't blame her at all.
The “dead baby scene” in Trainspotting really shocked me.
@@shadrach6299 my friend has spoken about that recently. She feels the same way as you
Literally nothing whatsoever happens in this scene lol
I’m so happy I’ve found a community of people that have similar interests. I credit that to you and this channel, sir. Love it.

"The Women" caught me completely of guard.
One of the most twisted movies i ever seen in my life.
This!!!
Same here. It's refreshing 😌
@@Butchzillaa welcome aboard the disturbing train..not always a smooth ride. 😎
I believe that the fact that your top 5s are NOT all "horror movies" is what appeals to me so much. We definitely seem to think alike.
The fact that in the late sixties I had such a crush on Michael Parks I couldn't believe his character acting
The book was so good but left me feeling so raw
I read the book. Very sad, indeed. I purposefully went out of my way to not watch Tusk. I actually watch these videos so I know what movies to avoid 😂
Tusk was a shocker.
I watched The Boy in the Striped Pajamas once. Once.

Had to teach it for a term, book and film. Horrible.
@@henkwilson1445 how did your students react to it?

It was a great film. I've watched it twice, and will probably watch it again. I can't recommend it to anyone, however.
Brendan Fraser is a gem
@@Freedomlives33 it was surreal watching Brendan Fraser act in a 500 pound fat suit. I remember him from his previous movies where he was so in shape going back to Encino Man. He is an amazing actor.
McDonalds boycotted the movie

You are right, I agree with your list. A lot of the most disturbing movies are not horror. Irreversible, Climax, Happiness, Soft & quiet, The Celebration, Sick of myself..they will make you very uncomfortable.
I've seen Irreversible and Happiness. Both great (and difficult) movies. I'll need to check out the others.
Happiness is simply incredible
I love Phillip Seymore Hoffman. I have to watch everything he makes. Lol.
@notsorry3631 Made. RIP. He was great, though. I've pretty much seen all of his movies as well.
Irreversible, happiness and the cellabration are all phenomenal
@@ethanveda1271 I have not watched 12 years a slave. I saw the adverts and knew that I wouldn't be able to handle it. No way will I ever watch it.

I loved American Mary except the end was disappointing
May. Lol. Um no. Decent but not list worthy.
I watched The Whale in theaters. The part where he eats so much he throws up broke me. I had a breakdown when the movie ended.
I had an accuser come out publicly on FB over a decade later stating she lied, finding out why was heartbreaking and infuriating because i wanted to understand what shed been through but she alienated me from everything i knew only being 16 yrs old. Probably gonna pass on the hunt!
Discovered your channel this weekend, and so far... I like it! Good job keep it up
I've seen a lot of hard and disturbung moviees but as a father of two little kids, the first half of The Nightingale crushed me to a point where I had to stop the movie and go out for a walk to clear my head.
I understand. I felt the same way. Especially, as you say, being a father.
The Hunt is a great film and Mikkelson is heartbreaking in the role but it cuts very deep and for sure would never rewatch.
Dylan Baker in happiness is just as creepy as it gets. Watching him obliterate a sunday barbecue In Hunters was top tier disturbing.
Darren Aronosky's movies are generally straight-up horror

Thank you for saving me from watching these movies, because I can hardly stand bad endings. They just ruin me for days, and I don't need that!
The Nightingale ruined me. We all know the scene if you’ve seen it. Made me cry. Felt like I was having a panic attack. Horrific.
Mother…
I give the driector of happiness credit cause it took balls to make a film like that.
Just discovered your channel. I am impressed by your candor and thoughtfulness. I look forward to going through your playlist.

Very well said! Thank you for your kind words and encouragement 🙏
UA-cam brought me here and I love the channel! To me, Threads is the movie I wouldn’t revisit
Threads was so realistic. I can rewatch The Day After, but not Threads.

Great list buddy. Enjoying your vids
Dead Man's Shoes. Phenomenal. Although I cannot watch that again. The scenes in the past with the brother still haunt me.
Someone in my family was falsely accused by a young girl, and it completely ruined his and his families lives.
@@MomeGnome That's in fantasyland
@@MomeGnome define ruined. I would say life is tainted more than ruined - you can still recover and live a decent life in spite of it, but it's a trauma, a wound like any other, you'll carry it with you for the rest of your life and you'll never recover from it. You might learn to live with it, like a scar or a limp, but you'll never "get over it".

Fun fact: it (the saw scene) was based on a legitimate medieval torture-and-kill method
Thank you! Enjoyed the reviews.
I won’t watch it but Michael sounds the most horrific to me.
Ooh, I'll have to watch your video that discusses Come and See!
Jack Frost with Michael Keaton is a film I would never watch again. You don’t get your heartbroken once no you get it ripped apart twice twice completely I would not watch it again, not me.
Literally cannot watch it anytime it’s on tv now, it hits far too hard
I loved that one as a kid, I'd like to see it again because it's been so long, but I agree it was very heartbreaking.
I HATED how "Michael" just ended...It took any hope that I had left & completely squashed it! Was the boy saved?? Did the mother find him & do something to cover it up?? WTF?!?
Along similar lines to some of these films was Hard Candy, a very difficult watch.
Yes!
Agreed. That was a one and done for me
Ever since I was a child I’ve been interested of dark matters, probably because of my own tragical childhood.

The only other movie I’ve ever sobbed after watching, and at least 10 minutes which is totally out of character for me, was an animation called The Tale of Princess Kaguya that I watched about two years ago. It was so touching, philosophical and powerful that I was overwhelmed by all kinds of feeling after watching it. Mostly sadness though. And yes, Grave of Fireflies in on my watchlist.

I agree. I suggested this one to him a few weeks ago.
My wife and Ioved it. Every single person and critic hated it.
I didnt find it depressing... it isnt if you empathize or have had experiences like the little girl.
Its a universal movie for imaginative people but boring maybe even cringe to people.
@MicahMicahel That little girl carried that movie 90% of the whole way through. She did an amazing job. Why critics didn't like it is a mystery to me.
I definitely didn't hate it; I still have it on DVD. It was just...I dunno...tough to get through. Probably just me.
Loved this one too, I didn't understand the hate for it.
Yikes...
I was not expecting The Nightingale to be disturbing. I knew nothing about it going into it. Several scenes still haunt me.
My ones are the girl thext door and miss violence. Absolutely devastating.
Pretty Baby ( from the late 70's) was the most disturbing movie I have ever seen.
Brooke Shields
Susan Sarandon

It is a truly adult (as in grown up) movie but I definitely could watch it again.
@@MomeGnome Thanks, maybe I'll give it a watch. I thought it was awful like those Hostel movies. I also like dark humor.
I'm a new subscriber 😊
Thank you!

Thanks and welcome
I have an idea for a show called vintage horror classics. You could talk about movies like The Birds, Whatever Happened To Baby Jane, Mommy Dearest, etc.
@@pollyfronberry6846 Also " Don't Look Now " and the original The Bad Seed.
Mads Mikkelsen STAN here! This was the second film of his that i say at an indie theatre when it came out. Whew! Happiness is a doozy! Made me insanely uncomfortable as well. I also NEVER watch THE NIGHTINGALE again. JESUS.
The Nightingale is very underrated as far as disturbing rec's go. For a non-horror movie, it's brutal.
That’s my number 1 for “would never watch again”. I loved the Babadook, so was very excited when I happ
This times 1,000! Made Martyrs, Audition, etc seem like lighthearted fun by comparison for me.
Idk if I’d call it a horror movie but I definitely wouldn’t call it non-horror. The rape and revenge genre has always been considered a part of horror. It’s easily the most horror on this list.
@@mabeylane7163 fair enough. I suppose it just seemed like it wasn't billed as a traditional horror movie but it's def a horrifying revenge flick.
The rape, murder and infanticide scene made me so angry I had to pause the movie because I felt my blood boiling. Fantastic movie but only once
New subscriber here , love the content 😊
Happiness man. You don't come back from that movie.
One I fear rewatching is Hereditary
As a kid, I found the saddest made for mtv, I think, on Matthew Sheppard I couldn’t do that one again. From the other side of the country, I couldn’t figure out if it was based on true story. I was quite young.Good list, from the 3 I’ve come across.
Do more movie referrals for every category not just horror. I subbed. 😊
