The Ridgeline is proof positive the Honda marketing department needs to be fired. For 99% of mid-size truck drivers, it's hands down the best mid-size truck. Yet no one seems to know it...

Thanks for your input ! For months I was all in on new Frontier, very quiet inside, that was nice surprise. Liked the trucky look. But winter snow and ice, going back to part time 4x4 kept gnawing at my brain. Rear end slip-sliding around, having to flick 4x4 knob on and off. For in town gray geezer not wishing to pull anything, mostly just haul an e-bike that weighs about 80 lbs with gear, the Frontier was overkill and larger turning radius, less power to the steering, not exactly optimal. In a matter of just two weeks, once I determined enough front legroom in Ridgeline, I totally switched to Ridgeline Black Edition fully loaded, is time for some coddling comfort on the roads of life. Good stereo, no fumbling with keys, cooled ventilated seats, heated steering wheel I’ve found I love when driving wife’s car. For myself, mostly FWD bias and heavy motor over those wheels, and a fully automatic solid kick in of the rear, is a good thing on snow and ice. Ridgeline sits at a really nice height, do not need a step ladder to get in. I look forward to rolling quite smoothly and with quiet roomy cabin on down the highways of life. Ridgeline looks to hit an overall sweet spot.

Correct on all counts and pretty much the same reasons I’m on my second one. Sold my 2018 RTL-E, test drove all the competition (including the F-150) and ended up purchasing a 2023 RTL-E. It’s just a great truck. Honda has something special here. Resale values on these are spectacular, drove my original one for 4.5 years and sold it for more than I paid for it in late 2021. I went from a first gen Tundra D/C to the Tundra. Cabin is same size. At 6’2” and 200 lbs rear seat has more leg room. Loved my Tundra but they have frame rot issues so nothing is perfect. Once you agree to give up man card and realize that this thing is probably the most practical and honest use of what most people need you will buy one. I can still haul my lumber, drywall and tools. I grew up in half ton trucks and "real" suvs, having learned to drive in both my dad's manual transmission/manual hub Chevy K truck and Scout. After years of driving "real" trucks, my cousin bought a Ridgeline, which I sneered at. He challenged me to show him one single thing I did with my truck (Silverado at the time) that his Ridgeline couldn't do. This prompted me to evaluate my needs and realize that the biggest trailer I owned was within the Honda's capabilities, and my off-road needs were things that at worst required 4hi with no lockers, meaning the Honda easily handled those too. I am now on my second Ridgeline, and plan to buy another after this one gets too old for my taste. I would like to see another mid-sized unibody to spice things up, now that compact ones are becoming a thing. I would love to see the Durango or an Explorer, for example, done in the Ridgeline style. I'm approaching 12,000 miles now, as of this comment (May 2023), and do a mix of everyday Highway/street driving and get close to 22apg. It's very quiet, powerful, and comfortable. I have not used it for towing yet, but hauling it holds everything I need. I also recommend the Ridgeline.

I have a 2021 RTLE. No regrets with my purchase. I get average 22 mpg hwy and in my small town. Last road trip I got 26mpg with cruise set at 75. I've hauled a camper that weighs about 2600 lbs and it has plenty of power. But it affects the gas mileage heavily if it is a camper say around 8 or 9ft highline. But with a low profile trailer it does much better as you would expect without a lot of drag. I take it into the woods during deer season and have hauled over a half ton of topsoil with no issue. I love it and likely won't buy a different truck unless something comes out I just have to have. But doubt that happening before I've got a couple hundred thousand miles on it.

    DB, great review 👍
I am on my second Ridgeline. My first was a 2017, RTL-T. It was totaled back in February of this year when a distracted driver ran a stop 🛑 sign, hit the LR side of the truck spun me around and head-on into a concrete wall, truck only had 20K miles. All airbags deployed, thankfully no injuries, just seatbelt bruised.
Now I own the same exact vehicle as yours. 2022, RTL in Lunar Silver Metallic. I salvaged from my 17, running boards, and a Retrax tonneau cover. I’ve replaced ALL of the incandescent bulbs, inside and out, with LEDs.
Regarding the “annoying” start-stop technology. I found that when you’re on A/C mode it does not engage the start/stop. The trick is the “fan” speed button has to stay on, you can turn off the separate A/C button, but leave the fan on. Hope this makes sense. I had the after market start-stop deactivating devise, it worked fine. However, I did not like that it caused an amber icon to light up in the dashboard.
    Thanks for sharing

I have a '22 RTL-E, and one thing that bugs me is that all the exterior lights are not LED. Headlights & taillights/brakelights are, but turn signals are still old school incandescent. When you say you replaced all of the non-LED bulbs, does that include turn signals, and if so, what bulbs did you use? One of the problems you may run into when replacing incandescent with LED turn signal bulbs is the potential for hyperflashing due to the voltage difference. Just curious as to what you did....and glad to hear you walked away from that crash!

      @LAP1050 Рік тому

@@JamesFontayne James, you will need resistors for the FRONT amber turn signal bulbs. I bought and returned several sets that advertised “no resistors needed”, they ALL lied, you need them.
The resistor wires go in-line on to the positive and ground wires (if I recall the colored wire is positive - DOUBLE CHECK THOUGH)
I’d say the toughest part was finding a mounting location where to mount the resistors. You HAVE TO mount them to a metal surface, NO PLASTIC surface, they get real hot, it’s normal. I mounted mine to a horizontal brace I found up in the inner fender.
Below I listed the parts. I included red bulbs for rear stop 🛑 and white for backup (Note my instructions for the backups). Maybe your RTL-E came with LEDs back there, my RTL did not.

I have a 2020 Sport, because I needed a daily commuter, that can pull a trailer, with a backup camera! I wanted something the wife & I can get in & out of easily, since we are in our mid 70’s. Mostly I haul groceries, and the wife! It’s great for backing out of parking lots, without hitting anything or anyone! I love not having to screw with a gas cap! Are there better trucks, it depends on what you need! I’m not afraid of buying any or the new trucks, but, I don’t have any cravings for a new truck! Bought a cover for the back, window dressing from Weathertec, and something to stand on, getting in & out of the truck. The back doors open wide enough to use the backseat storage area. The in bed trunk locks from the inside, and the windows can open from the key fob, just like starting the truck, remotely. I can put a full sized tissue box inside the center storage. It has bed lights inside the bed, and a plug adapter in the bed. Has a wide bed floor, for plywood laying flat on the bed. Comes with a great built in towing package, that is easy to guide, with 3 different views. I can actually back up to any yellow line, and see how close I’m to the car behind me. Love having lane distance monitoring. But my favorite is, driving through 12” of snow, without spinning my wheels! That’s all original rubber. I got a set of floor mats, for good measure! I’m sure I forgot something, but looking for an excuse to hit the road with my truck, isn’t one of them. My wife’ car is a Prius, that’s why I need a truck! Love both of them!

Great review, as your rationales align with my own, in why I purposefully chose the 2022 Ridgeline. I additionally considered the midsize to accommodate my arthritis and knee injuries that I have acquired, in getting in/out of a truck. Another midsize pickup benefit for me is that I can park the truck in my garage and avoid the ice and snow accumulation in winter; unlike a full-size pick up. It's the ideal truck/car experience that I hoped it would be.

You missed the boat on the front wheel drive first feature. It was a smart thing for Honda to gamble on that feature. Maybe you don’t get much snow where you’re from. I only use 4WD mode about 3 times per year. And only because I have it. Front wheel drive makes 4WD unnecessary. Can’t even compare the performance with a rear wheel drive vehicle. The Ridgeline is the best all around vehicle I ever owned. Secondly if you ever changed body mounts on full sized truck or van you’d appreciate the attached full frame of a Ridgeline. I own a 08 with 220k miles. Body mounts by now would be on the to do list for-sure. Oh yeah if you need rear wheel drive it’s solid, a locker.

The Ridgeline is very stable and smooth. on wet pavement I cannot spin the wheels no matter how hard I try. The Tacoma was a solid well built Truck but was prone to slip and slide on wet pavement and steering was much looser especially at high speeds. The only 2 negatives with the Ridgeline is timing belt and the collision avoidance can’t be sensitive at times. Other than that the Ridgeline suits my driving needs much better than the Tacoma. We are now on our fourth Ridgeline, all which have been purchased used with anywhere from 33 to 80,000 km. The first was a 2007 purchased in 2010, second was a 2012 touring, the third was a 2020 touring and now driving a 2022 Touring. It was my wife that first wanted a Ridgeline. I was never sold on these “wanna be” trucks. We live out in a rural area and need to haul water, pull fifth wheel campers, gooseneck trailer’s therefore I drive a 3/4 or now a 1 ton pickup truck. She was determined to buy a Ridgeline and used the excuse that she seen one with a Honda quad in the back, so I could “haul mine with it if I wanted to”. Well after the first one we have enjoyed them all. The first two were driven a couple hundred thousand km each before we upgraded to a newer model. The only maintenance required, other than brakes and tires, is to get the timing belt replaced every 100,000 km(63,000 miles) to avoid a catastrophic engine failure. The third one(2020 black Touring), was to be our retirement vehicle but my wife was in an accident and wrote it off. She had a few bruises and needed to see a chiropractor but has fully recovered. The safety features of the Ridgeline are great, collision avoidance, multiple air bags all played a role to keep her safe. We are now enjoying our 2022 Touring which came with transferable OEM extended warranties as well as glass, rim & paint coverage. I have put on running boards, lockable tonneau cover, LED high beam and LED driving lights and a second set of studded winter tires. We plan to continue the activities that all the Ridgeline’s have done including towing the pontoon boat, hauling large items, traveling in comfort and whatever else is required. Great (ok, I’ll say it) truck!

If you want a lower step-up height, smoothest ride and best fuel economy on a daily basis then buy the Ridgeline if you're only doing truck stuff once in a while. it's easier to park in a parking lot too.

I too thought Honda had superior reliability. Now, however, I certainly can't recommend a Honda after my daughter's experience with her 2016 Honda Odyssey. The car developed a serious engine miss at 67,000 miles. The problem was with the variable cylinder management system. We researched the problem before calling the dealer. It turns out that Honda settled a Class Action lawsuit for Honda V-6 models from 2008-2013. The settlement provided free maintenance for this problem. However, Honda apparently did not solve the problem. She talked with the dealer and with the district office in Atlanta. No help at all. The repair cost was over $4,000 which they paid and then traded the vehicle since the dealer could not give any assurance the problem would not happen again. I would now never recommend any late model V-6 Honda with the variable cylinder management system. This system was introduced to improve fuel mileage but it is a guarantee of engine failure. Honda ain't what it used to be. Stay away from the Honda V-6.

My neighbor bought a jeep Gladiator and really seems to enjoy it.
