- Jacks Game.Pigeons. Another, spectacular piece of TV gold.
This is episode 1 in a 10 part series, of the brilliant programme, Jacks Game, filmed in 1983, starring the country and field-sportsman Jack Charlton, football superstar, 66 world cup winner and keen shot.
They dont make television like this anymore, in fact, in today's climate, no one would dare too, this is most probably, one of the last, great, true, honest representations of field-sports as we know and love it.
Episodes 2 to 10 coming very soon.Enjoy

What happened to this country ? a throwback to some would say, better times ! Somethings should never change, sadly we've lost this culture in part .
Too young to have known him in football but my grandfather had these on vhs and this is what I’ll remember Jack for. RIP
God bless our Jack, he remained one of the lads and never let his fame and fortune alter him, one of the best, a true gentleman.
RIP Jack
I'm glad there's a few of us who still love the countryman's sports as you put it. I live for it. All of it. I eat all of the species we can hunt, save for crow. I've eaten enough as it were. LOL!
Propper old school, right down to the bottle of J&B Scotch in the hide. Magic.
Nothing like a drop of the good stuff particularly if it's a good single malt that's slightly peaty and smokey, all the better if it's an Irish whisky many of which are so superb you take one taste and your tongue starts slapping your brains out.
I believe the older gentleman was completely hammered the entire time!! Great video!!
I could watch this crack all day and night amazing
Love Jacks attentiveness
Love these thank you for sharing.

Wonderful video Scott! Thank you so much for sharing :)
Can't wait for the rest of the series!
That dog is absoloutly brilliant, genuinly is an amazingly well trained animal.
Beer and Whiskey in the hide, back in the day eh? :) Thanks for sharing this and I am looking forward to the rest.
Whisky, not whiskey: it's a bottle of J&B Scotch, and Scotch is whisky, not whiskey. xx
Wonderful video, thanks!
Bless You
wonderful video thanks for posting it.
Scott...that was just a pleasure to watch. Thoroughly enjoyed watching and listening to the maestro dude.
True magic mate. He is still going strong as far as i know. He would be in his 80's now i would imagine. Legend and what a cracking doco. Good effort Scott. ATB Moose.
Wonderful video capturing a more reasonable time. Thanks Scott
Great look at a series of hunting shows, thanks!
Brilliant mate, love this.
the old boys been knocking that bottle of whiskey back.......
Whisky, not whiskey: it's a bottle of J&B Scotch, and Scotch is whisky, not whiskey. xx
Great video. Keep them coming.
Thanks Scott... Keep them coming brings back a lot of memories for a transplanted Brit...
13:24 what a cracking shot 👏
very cool scott thanks GOD BLESS
that old dog looks so happy doing her job
"I didn't bother [fetching them] that day, the whole field looked like I'd been plucking chickens..." Don't know why, I found that so funny.
Cracking vid. Made my day watching that.
Awesome old video... great upload, keep up the good work!
Fantastic... That brought back memories. Keep em coming Scott
Excellent program, really enjoyed it. Keep up the good work.
Amazing film series. Although an American, I have never enjoyed American television. Traditional British TV is the best! Thanks, Scott!
Watched half this few weeks ago mega ! But was late and I fell asleep lol , watch it again now
Brings back memories.
Also, i can highly recommend the book Prue's new country kitchen i bought it in 1997 and still use it regularly.
Great to actually see and hear the legendary Archie Coates, would never expected him to sound like my old CO.
He should have been called the General.
Thanks for uploading this .😉👍
OK, now I'm looking forward to a great English pigeon pie recipe! Can't wait...
Scott you make me well up every time timeI watch an episode. Man I miss my dad. Being from Bristol it's like returning home everytime I watch the old documentrys. That I thank you for, well enough piping my eyes. I am an avid hunter here in Canada and I love your episodes on game prep. We have alot of grouse and moose also caribou where love. Keep up the great work .
thanks scott. wow what a awesome trip down memory lane. loooooooved this series, thanks again for sharing. if your ever in sydney let me shout you a beer or two 10/10 for your channel. cheers
Any chance you could make the pigeon and orange dish Scott , fantastic vid
bobby crispy i was wondering that as well I've only ever seen them cooked with mushrooms so it would be very interesting to try his recipe.
It's interesting that neither Wikipedia nor IMDB knows this series. That aside, I've seen shooting like this in shows like the River Cottage, so people definitely still make programs like this. Even Gordon Ramsay has a video of him shooting pigeons and preparing a meal out of them right there in the field.
good post scott
Thanks for sharing that was great! Keep em comin! Also, anybody catch the J&B in ole Archie's lunch pail? Definitely a bygone era that is for sure.
Loved it great vid. Love the end at a 26:01 hahaha
Great great video more please. I hope the next videos are how to cook pigeon different ways. Regards colin
I have really enjoyed these episodes Scott. Its a shame these traditional skills are dying all over the world
Great series of films with Jack and a fabulous honest intro too. These days it is so non-PC that the outrage would be unbelievable. Even away from the subject it also shows the demise of mainstream TV towards the moronic plastic shite they show today with Z list wannabes pretending to fall in love or half-wits crying over something meaningless. Keep up the good work on showing quality over plastic quantity. After thought: could you imagine the flak and hate that a famous footballer would get now if he publicly showed he enjoyed field sports or blood sports as the PC gang like to call them?
Two fantastic men, what has happened to Britain, I still use a side by side for everything hope that would please old Archie.
That really looks like fun. Love the dog!?
Thoroughly enjoyed that Scott. Thank you.
Was that a slip of the tongue by Archie at 24:01 ?? lol
+suffolkngood I thought the same...
I love these new vids you've been posting! Also, if you could show us a good recipe for squirrels I would greatly appreciate it!
old jack king of the comb overs lol
A Poper Job Keep on Keeping
When he threw the dead pigeon out to attract the group that flew by, I almost had coffee come out my nose I was laughing so hard. This is a kind of fowl hunting that is overlooked here in the U.S. and sadly so.
Probably because all our pigeons live downtown...though I'm sure there are exceptions
jacks game another prog i followed as well, the world has gone to the dogs a common man could put food in the larder when pennies were few, now we have all the bleeding hearts who know nothing about the damage done or that its a form of conservasion reduceing numbers
Anyone else notice the booze in the blind. classic!
What was a popular shotgun guys like theese used back then?
Bonko!
And of course there's a bottle of J&B in the blind with them. Need to stay warm, I suppose.
Of course, they've packed the J&B.
A great video. How is the pigeon population kept down now?
This is fanastic. Good ole country program. Do they still use pidgeon shooters today or more hi tech means to keep them away?
I always wanted to sit in a hide with a bottle of J&B but,I never have...Really.... :-)
Have you done any dry aging meat (Beef steaks, pork etc) at home on small scales? Would like to try it myself but not sure which cuts and which meats i would try. Quite like the idea of adding value to cheap shop brought joints (maybe sirloin for steaks) but wouldn't know where to start really. Might be a good source of material for future vids. Keep um coming, they're great!
rowan and apple jelly, are you going to make it next ?
You should check out Field Sports Channel and Field Sports Britain. They are very close. Not as charming but nice to watch. I love those 2 channels myself!
That was brilliant and Archie must have been a spitfire pilot he was a no nonsense chap and certainly knew his stuff. What a shame we no longer live in a country where we can carry on our country life without all the pc from all the snowflakes that have destroyed all our traditions.
What's wrong with cutting down Beech trees for a hide?
Is that a parang?
7:32 It's a billhook: a traditional hedge-laying tool that's been used for hundreds of years. xx
Think cotes was drinking way too much 10,000 birds a year any shooter would know from experience that's bollocks
Hahhahahaha im first
geir safie x well make a comment that doesn't make you sound like a big kid
Ignore the haters mate, well done!!!
im not a hater. i love all the videos
RIP Jack
