- First off, although I did discover this cheese by myself, I do want to give a shoutout to the reddit user thefatpandad who also found this, even before me, and started a discussion that gave me more information and further encouraged me to keep trying before moving on to the next part of the story.

Secondly, I do not know why but my video editor messed up with the colors so I do apologize for the colors of the gameplay.
If trying this, MAKE SURE TO PLUG IN YOUR CONTROLLER
So there are two possible things I can think of for this.
1. I got super lucky and the game glitched and didn't summon bees. This is very possible but I do not feel like spending another 19 hours testing.
2. Due to when I fought the boss, there was no way for the boss to summon bees. The reason being is that I haven't unlocked boost strike, which from what I have seen on every video on mantis, both demo and full game, a boost strike happens somewhere halfway and triggers a transition where the boss summons adds. The exact place in the story I did this is right after getting Shionne's clothing and returning and initiating the next part. This where I think thefatpandad may have had an unfortunate timing as based on their clip, I believe they have already unlocked boost strike, making it impossible to fight Mantis without adds. I think this is the case as Alphen's mask is broken off in their clip.
These are my settings in which I do not know if they are important but will include details just in case.
- Played on Ps5
- Playing on Hard mode
- Have not unlocked Boost Strike
- Place in story is right after getting Shionne's clothing
- Switched to manual mid fight (for demon fang usage before)
- I have no DLC other than the pre-order DLC, which I have not yet downloaded.
Anyway, if you have any questions, I will try my best to answer and hopefully people can confirm if I got lucky or if it is because of the boost strike issue. Hope you guys enjoy! And I apologize for the terrible edits.

You have hella patience bro, glad to see that this is clearly not worth doing until later in the game. You just saved me hours
I don't know about patience. It was more "am I willing to let my PS5 run for 19 hours" since luckily found the afk strat and yes I was lol
it's insane how it gives you only 5 levels, in older tales titles if you managed to beat a boss that was 50 levels above you in the early game you would at least get 10-15 levels of exp, but ever since zestiria exp values just seem very low
Dang bro the commitment is real
Dude that is so mess up and not fair. Your basically doing what I did after the 2nd boss fight except those pain in the ass bees keeps killing me. Dare you to do it with bees
Ummmmmm no thanks. As I have stated in the video, this is story locked strategy. Once you unlock boost strike, this strategy won't work to beat the boss. I already know this strategy wouldn't be possible with the bees, at least this early. Could work later but by the time you can fight him fairly, you probably wouldn't need this strat anyway.
The whole point of this video was to prove you can beat Mantis early, essentially at first encounter if you wanted to.
Mantis is meant to be done way later in the game. Doing it after 2nd boss is still too early to fight him fairly. You would be around level 20 vs level 43.
That patience for 3 lvls
only 3 levels is lame af
Yea I've done this myself 3 times now. It gets stuck in attack animation and you can just run in circles the entire time while Shionne literally does all the work. You max out her starting astral Arte as well
SN you can also have Zephyr to make it a tad faster
@@minionsteve Zephyr dies in one hit though lol
Lol broooo damm very impressive. 😍
currently doing this in unknown difficulty mode, it has like 444k hp, i'll be back in like 3 days when it's dead, lol
lmao. I was considering making a recording for Unknown but wasn't sure if I wanted to leave my console running for that long.
honestly, i just bought/downloaded all the free dlc + SAO crossover dlc, but i can't even make use of any of it really cause i haven't even unlocked the arts table yet, still with zephyr, using my pokeball+'s wrist strap to hold the thumbstick in place, i've done around 14kish damage so far? maybe almost 20k by the full hour mark? so just like, actually seems at a rough math it should only take 20-24 hours, maybe cause zypher is dealing some damage too?
@@yukihyo7645 I personally would have let Zephyr die just so he doesn't screw up the enemy AI possibly but if he isn't then that extra damage can speed things up a bit.
he's not messing with the AI at all, but he also very rarely lands a hit, a couple hits every minute or 2, but, his hits do way more than shionne's, my shione's doing 2's with magnet ray, when he lands a hit it's 18 or so
edit: just looked and for some reason she's doing 3's now, so that's cool
@@yukihyo7645 probably mastered Magna Ray. My Shionne had Magna fully mastered by the time I finished this.
I used to fight this thing for hours in the early game just to kinda work on my skills, dodging, enhance some artes, ect. I might have actually tried to kill it but when I looked into it I always saw the bees get summoned. I figured there's no way I can handle the bees so I never tried to fully commit to killing it. Kinda glad I didn't know about this pre- Boost Strike window to fight it without bees, saved me hours of tedium. Big props to you for demonstrating this is possible, though, I shudder to think of how much pussy you're gonna get for this feat of gamer prowess.
Yeah. Luckily I could just AFK the whole time. I took a gamble with the pre- Boost Strike window since every single video I saw forced a boost strike for the bees summon.
I’m playing on hard as well I’m gonna double back and take him out you inspired me
make sure to do it before you unlock boost attack, otherwise he summons bees halfway, making this impossible
Damn I got boost already
@@darkseid9391 sadness. But I would say it is honestly not worth it. Just did this to prove you technically could beat it early but definitely not that worth. Would rather have been playing Arise for 19 hours.
@@Brixgale I kept dying I gave up lol
@@Brixgale I got a question is hard mode worth playing?? I come from the age of rpgs not having difficulty setting so I just choose it but idk I’m regretting it
I could've sworn the punchy dude is invulnerable and probably adds enough DPS to cut an hour off of this. Absolutely insane
Nope. Zephyr can die. And having Zephyr in the team may affect the boss aggro a bit so it may not focus you anymore, which means you can't manipulate the movement. However, if Zephyr doesn't affect aggro, then could probably cut out a few hours depending if he can get hits in.
Even with my Lvl 40s I struggled so much. Sheesh.
Damn, I guessed it would take a few hours of not getting hit, but 19?! Crazy.
If you are actively playing and not using this exploit and played absolutely perfectly, then probably can cut the time in half or more since you would be adding alphen's damage as well as boost attacks. But yeah. Wasn't expecting it to be 19 hours. Was expecting 10 with this strat.
I came back with Rinwell, for extra damage. But after the Mantis lost 50% health (2 hour progress), his hp wouldnt go down at all.
Then i stopped the running around and attacked him. He summoned bees. After that i couldnt get his aggro back and both girls died to the bees.
What a waste of time :(
I should have watched this video earlier.
yeah. sadly this is only possible before unlocking boost strike. once boost strike is unlocked, you sadly have to deal with the extra adds at 50%. honestly not worth it as you can tell. 19 hours?! way too long. but it is indeed possible
I beat mantis in level 30, 1st playthrough but It was normal mode
congrats! Still a hard fight if underleveled cause he still hits hard.
@@Brixgale im just sad new game plus is a let down, I hope they make enemies level 100
its like all my artifact collection just got to waste
@@looots1320 yeah. Even on Chaos difficulty. Just max out your devil arms and one shot practically everything.
I was able to do it at level 6 with a three party. You have to let one die then run in circles
Assuming you mean when you have Zephyr. I assume you would have to let Zephyr die as to not mess with the enemy AI so you can run in circles as I would think Shionne is the only one who can hit Mantis as you run in a circle. Or at least hit easily.
I appreciate the confirmation that this strat works and works on first encounter!
@@Brixgale ya. I could not think of zephyr name at the time I was posting
20 hours -.- in that time you could kill a lot bosses and come back later with mich higher level.
19 hours just to make a point. well it's a good run.
exactly. would I recommend someone to do this? Nope. kind of sucked not being able to play the game the whole time. But is it possible? Yep :D
R u using dlc, man? Tks
No I am not. As stated, no DLC is being used at all here.
it's really useless to kill this early.. you can 1 hit this on late game.
I know. The point of the video is to show that it is possible to kill it early, not that it is useful.
@@Brixgale okay
God this game suck
More grinding 😂you can beat him on hard in under 5 hours
