  • With the announcement of the 2022 Miata, Mazda added an interesting new feature to our favorite roadster called "Kinematic Posture Control".
    What is it? What does it do? This week on FM Live, our resident mad scientist, Keith Tanner, discusses the benefits and theory behind this new Miata Feature.
    Original live video filmed 1-20-22. Join us every Thursday at 2:00 PM Mountain Time for new live content, and be sure to subscribe to our UA-cam channel to see all our Miata videos!
    Flyin' Miata is the world leader in Miata performance. We offer a wide range of parts for all years of the Mazda MX-5 Miata.

      Per the R&T article, KPC uses 45psi brake line pressure whereas the DSC/TSC will apply 450psi brake pressure. Electronic differentials will apply that level of braking, so the MX-5’s system won’t eat brake pads that quickly.

    Does replacing the shocks/springs and lowering the ride height and/or changing spring rates have an effect on how this system affects the driving experience?

    • @FlyinMiataVideo

      The mechanics will still be the same. There will be less suspension movement with stiffer springs, of course. It may help a car that's been lowered without proper attention to spring rate as it may help keep the rear off the bumpstops.

      @@DessikaModus Body roll isn't a cause of weight transfer, it's a visible manifestation. Infiniti has been doing a similar system for many years, thus the reason the rear brake pads on G35's wear it so much.

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  2 роки тому

      Is Infiniti doing torque vectoring or using the brakes to flatten out the cornering? If you're seeing high levels of wear, it's likely torque vectoring which is much more aggressive.

    • @ChonkTek

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  2 роки тому

      @@ChonkTek The purpose is likely to drag the brake on one wheel enough to transfer torque to the other one. It's a quirk of how differentials work. So there is no way I can ever built this into my NB, I know it would be an enormous effort to just add all the sensors the ND has but due to the fact that they, so to say, "block you from getting the software" I have no chance anyways. Even if I change the ABS.

    • @FlyinMiataVideo
      @FlyinMiataVideo  2 роки тому

      Even if you did get all the hardware and software in place, this trick relies on the car having anti-squat geometry in the rear and we're not sure the NB has that built in. It could probably be done by someone who was very skilled and motivated, but the whole thing would have to be created from scratch. The only part you'd be able to reuse from the 2022 would be the concept.
