  • If your hair doesn't retain moisture, it may not be a product problem. Perhaps it's a porosity problem. This video will go through hair porosity and density tests. I'll give tips on building your hair regimen, and look at hair thickness and density.
    Knowing if your hair is high porosity, low porosity, and the density can be the key factors in deciding your hair regimen, wash routine, and which products to buy. If you want long healthy hair, this knowledge can help you get there. This research has been eye opening for me and I'll definitely be taking a closer look at my own hair regimen and changing things based on what I've found out.

    I have low porosity hair. This past Sunday, I washed my hair in the shower with shampoo, but I did not condition, deep condition, or use a leave in. As my hair was air-drying, I just plaited it in large sections. It is now Wednesday, and my hair still feels okay, and I've been sleeping on cotton pillowcases without a scarf or bonnet. I tried this experiment, because, like you, I have scalp issues (seborrhea and psoriasis). Since trying this method, my scalp has been able to breath and has 95% less inflammation. I live in a very humid climate, and I think humidity, oils, and other heavy hair products, coupled with not washing my hair frequently enough, led to the inflammation on my scalp. I'm going to continue some variation of the less is more method moving forward, with hopes that it will keep down the inflammation on my scalp.

      I found less was more when dealing with my scalp as well. Nizoral shampoo has been the ONLY thing that lasts long enough between washes. I did a whole video about healing me scalp. It’s been a LIFE SAVER. I hope you give it a try and it works for you too.

    I found your page today. I've watched a few videos and I'm liking it! One thing though. Lots of natural hair videos and pages misrepresent the hair float test. Very few of us seem to know about water surface tension. This is what allows leaves and insects to float on top of the water. To do this test correctly the hair has to be submerged to break to surface layer. If this step is skips the results will be flawed.

    This video is awesome! I remember doing the porosity test the first time I went natural back in 2013, but I didn't understand what it meant, nor did I cleanse the test-hair with ACV first. I went back to the creamy crack in 2016, but BC'd it again a couple weeks ago because I just hated having to depend on a hair dresser especially during this pandemic (I tried giving myself a perm, but it did not take).
    Anyway, I tried the test again following your steps and 12 hours later, my hair is still floating on top of the water. 😆 Now I know for sure what kind of hair I have and there are so many more natural hair videos and blogs now than there were in 2013 (also I was overseas in an Asian country and didn't have anyone around me to help me). I'm gonna try this again and see if I can get my hair to it's full potential.

      @HavootuKali 4 роки тому

      @@LaToyaEbonyHair Heat Training is basically, a mild form of heat damage. I blow and straighten my hair a few times a year to slightly relax my curl pattern and make it more porous so it can absorb water and product better. It takes the more coarse parts of my hair from a 4b/c to 4A and the rest from 4a to 3c/b... I do this maybe 4-5 times over a year. Once it gets to that point i blow/straighten my length less frequently, to maybe once or twice a year, and only focus on my roots. But i have fucked it once... Lol When i got a new flat iron and had the heat too high, about 2 and a half years ago lol.. So i let it grow out and started again. Cuts my wash and style down from 4 hours to 2 and i use half the product... When done right it works well for me!

However I am not embracing it once again and loving it the way I should. As I mention before I took my locs out after 10 yrs and trying to get into a hair routine and using the correct products. I love your videos and I appreciate your time. If you could give me one thing that may help me and my greys I would appreciate it. Thank you. Blessings

      I’d definitely have to do more research on grey hair as the missing pigment makes the hair a lot more vulnerable to environmental factors like the sun. Moisturizing it is going to be really important and maybe even think about finding products with UV protection or wearing more hat outdoors. I recommend doing a bit more research online to see if you can find gentle shampoos/conditioners that will work better for getting hair...a lot of times the texture can change. I hope this is a good starting point for you.

    LaToya, I did the glass of water test to test my hair porosity. It came back that my hair is low porosity because even an hour later my hair was floating on the top of the water. I even cleansed it with ACV then did the porosity test again to double check. However, if I stick the strands of hair in the water it floats to the bottom. If I simply lay it on top of the water it floats. Im just confused because mr hair doesn’t feel like it’s low porosity when I wet it because it gets saturated with water pretty easily. It also seems to hold the moisture pretty well by not getting dry feeling too easily. What else can I do to test and find out what the porosity my hair is please? Thanks 💕

    • @LaToyaEbonyHair

      If I were you, I’d research a bit more. Any product, natural or not, can be reactive - especially mixing it with other products. Though it opens the cuticle, I’d experiment with different things to close the cuticle up again. Just be careful mixing too many products without knowing what chemicals are being mixed. I hope that helps a little.

    • @DimeDesigns10
      @DimeDesigns10 4 роки тому

      LaToya Ebony it’s definitely annoying, and I have to treat my sections differently. When I wash I make sure I give it sometime before applying the shampoo so that my cuticles open more for my lower porosity areas (back and perimeter). And I start from the back when applying product so that it has more time to absorb what it will allow in. I have 3b- tightly coiled 4c in the back, 4c around the perimeter and 2b-4b in the crown and front of my head. It can be hard with the 2’s because they will end up longer than the back and sides and won’t let my hair look uniformed 🥺. Some parts are like a shaggy dog and some like a curly poodle lol. When I first transitioned, I kept cutting off the top because I thought they were still relaxed ends. But after seeing other women online, I learned that that part of my head is just more wavy
