  • This is a review of the Harbor Freight Atlas 80 Volt Battery using the 40V 5Ah / 80V 2.5 Ah Dual Voltage Battery and its longevity paired with the self-propelled lawn mower. What's its battery Life? How much square footage can it run before depleting? Lithium Ion batteries are good , but are they that good? Let's see!

    Bought my Atlas mower and 1 battery May 2021. Have a small yard and was always able to finish it all with 1 batterry. This season (2024) the original batterry started to struggle a bit. Got a new one and am able to finish the entire yard (about 40 minutes mowing time) again. NEVER a problem with the mower so far. I'm in Minnesota so i have a shorter mowing season as well.

    Wow, I looked up lawn mowers(for the first time in my life) on Harbor Freight, and specifically looked at this mower just 5 minutes ago.. and then went over to UA-cam and now I have 3 of the 21 "suggestions"(including this video) on the first page, that are about the exact same lawn mower I looked at for a minute on a completely different web site...
    I find it vile that there really is now more true privacy and everything we do is being monitored...
    Ive got no problem with this content creator, he's doing his job and its a good review, just the whole Big Brother crap.

      I hear ya! The phenomenon you're describing is known as "remarketing" or "retargeting." It's a marketing technique used by advertisers to show targeted ads to users who have already shown interest in a specific product or visited a particular website.
      Here's how it generally works:
      1. You visit a website and search for a specific product or browse certain pages.
      2. The website uses tracking technologies like cookies or pixels to gather information about your browsing behavior.
      3. Advertisers who have partnered with the website or use the same ad platform (such as Google Ads) can place a tracking code on their ads or website.
      4. When you visit UA-cam, which is also owned by Google, it can access the information collected by the tracking code.
      5. Based on your previous browsing behavior, UA-cam's recommendation algorithm can analyze the data and determine that you have shown interest in a particular product.
      6. UA-cam then displays recommended videos related to the product you searched for or showed interest in on the other website.
      This personalized recommendation is made possible by the integration of data between various platforms and the use of tracking technologies. It allows advertisers to target their ads more effectively based on users' past behaviors, interests, and preferences.
      It's important to note that you can control your ad preferences and opt-out of personalized advertising through the settings on platforms like Google or UA-cam if you prefer not to see these targeted ads. I believe you will still see ads though. They'll just be random and not 'targeted'.
      What's even more concerning, is when I'm talking to someone (face-to-face) about certain products, and then later I go online, whether to a website or social media, and I start seeing ads from something I was just talking about and I didn't even search it up on my phone or computer. Our phones are 'listening' to keywords that we say in the real world... I'm sure of it! :(

    You & everyone else that reviewed this a few years ago just calls it "the battery." I think Harbor Freight added a new, higher capacity battery. If you could glance at your battery and confirm it says "40V 5Ah / 80V 2.5 Ah" I'd appreciate it. The "new" battery is "40V 8Ah / 80V 4Ah" and is about the same price as the mower itself and will have vastly different run times. Thanks either way for the video!

    First of all let me compliment you on how green your grass is and how tight or full. That said by my calculations you do about 4,007 square, most of the time you used your self-propelled. My lawn it looks like scrubgrass it's not as dark, not as full and my lawn is 5,500 sqft. My Atlas is a push mower, plus I use two at the same time . In my opinion you're doing really well with one battery. My mower is 2 years old plus I have 40 charges on the batteries.

    • @EverythingInBetween22
      @EverythingInBetween22  Рік тому +2

      Much appreciated. I try and take care of the grass as best as I can. The dang dog urine (they now have their spots) is kind of killing some areas of the backyard grass and it's hard to keep it green in those areas. Yea, I think the one battery is doing pretty good. I'm less than 12 charges in, and I hope that when I get to around 40 charges, that it doesn't degrade too much.
      Even if I have to buy a battery every 2 years, that's better than dealing with buying gas, prepping the mower for winter/storage, maintenance, etc... I think the convenience is worth it, in my opinion. I'll definitely update, if the battery starts performing considerably less, down the road.
      Thanks for watching and for your input!

    i got the 80v push mower, 40v trimmer, 40v blower. now i dont have a big lawn, my front and back yard are about the same size, so all together its about 2000 sq ft. Fully charged 80v battery, i can trim all over, mow the yard, and then blow everything. and still have 2 lights left on battery. now cutting such high grass, not really supposed to do that anyway, i dont, i cut maybe 1-2" max a time. if anything, i just wish i got the 80v blower.

      Yea, I don't usually let it get too long. I believe I used the self-propelled feature quite a bit in this video and that's what probably took a lot of the battery. What's the takeaway? Between the two yards, you now have the blower...and HF just released a bladed trimmer (next on MY list)...get a second battery and you'll have plenty of juice to get through it all without having to wait on a charger...rapid or not. My lawn is about the same size as yours and two batteries get's 'er done.

I think I've gotten better at editing but I have a LONG way to go! haha! I should have waited to shoot the end and rest a bit to gather my thoughts. I was just blabbing away! LOL And yes! two batteries has been more than enough for my yard. I bought a second one the next day... And soon after, I bought a third battery because someone said they left their battery all winter without "conditioning" it and when they went to use it the following summer, it never worked again. So I have a third battery that I've used a few times and when last summer was over, I left one battery alone. I will be doing a video on that battery here soon when summer comes back around and see how much charge it has and if it will still work. Stayed tuned! We'll find out soon!

    I owned the push mower one And right now I’m very upset with atlas. My issue started when I forgot the atlas blower outside and got rained on that night. So the blower had my 80-40 v battery that night. The next day, I disconnected the battery and dried it or left it alone for a few hours. I then put the battery back in the blower and tried blowing with it tri see if it broke. When I squeezed the trigger the blower turned in for about 10 seconds then shuts off. It did that every time I squeezed the trigger. It also had a 3 level bar in battery life so I decided to try and charge it. When charging the battery it was showing solid red . It wouldn’t charge even after cleaning both charger and battery. So I bought a new 80-40 v battery and started using it . The second time I cut grass i mistakenly took the battery that won’t charge and put I in the mower with other working battery . All in all I had two batteries in the mower , one was the battery from the blower and the other was good battery fully charged. At this time the new battery was charging and I had two in the mower. Well shortly after I started the mower it stopped . So I checked and removed the bad battery from the mower and tried running the mower again. It did the same so I waited for the new battery to charge then I tested it too on the mower. The new battery also stopped running aftet a few seconds. Right now my mower won’t stay on without it shutting itself off after a few seconds . I did something that made the mower shut itself off. I need to know how to reset whatever it is telling the mower to shut off. So today I’m taking it apart to see if I’m going find the problem or if not I’m going on social media to expose the problem. See my thing is if the item is pricy it should be reliable and fixable without buying another mower. Or have all parts available for the pricy cost. Otherwise we are all buying bmw and only the certified mechanics can fix problems it has. Wait I think I should search online for how atlas electric mower was made before it’s put to rest forever in a recycling container..
    the other issue is when your charging these atlas batteries they are loud and kind of hit air blowing out from charger. Also before and after use you have to wait for battery to cool down before charging it or using it . That’s all the issues I have with it.
    Note :
    Taking the mower apart is a must to remove debris and thick dust/mud. Youll need the star tip screw driver and you’ll need the long kind because the last four screws are deep. You need w d 40 for all rusts and places you don’t want water to be

      Man, you've got it bad. Sorry to hear that. If you left the blower outside in the rain with the battery attached, you could have possibly shorted the battery, and inserting that shorted battery into the mower, could have messed with the mower's PCB. They do have replacement parts for this mower and the PCB is one of them. Go to the product page on HF's site next to the Product Overview. The PCB isn't cheap but it's cheaper than a new mower. As far as price, the Atlas mowers are at least half the cost of those other brands. I know it's still a few hundred dollars but those other brands are like over $600 (of course they have better warranties as well). I know it's easier said than done, but I would have disposed that bad battery if it wasn't working and the new battery was working. After opening it up, check to see if any of the capacitors are swollen. That could indicate the issues you've been having if any of them are bulging. Also, I haven't heard any noise coming from my charger or the batteries, when charging. Please keep us updated in the comments. We'd like to know what happens! Sorry for all your troubles, bud!

    I got burned on another electric lawn mower, it had issues in less than a year and then the battery went defective within a 2 year time frame.
    I'd rather just get a gas lawn mower until the technology is better and cheaper.
    You basically need an 80v lawn mower just to cut a yard and the batteries are 150$ alone, costing almost as much as the lawn mower itself.

    • @EverythingInBetween22
      @EverythingInBetween22  Рік тому

      By 'another', do you mean another brand? So far, all my Atlas equipment has been good. Some products are hit/miss, especially with the technology still being new.
      Speaking of being burned... Before going 'battery powered' with Atlas, I had a front-wheel drive self-propelled Craftsman mower (which was cheap but good) and the only reason I had to get that, was because before that Craftsman mower, I had a rear-wheel drive self-propelled Husqvarna mower and it SUCKED. I paid around $700 for that thing, thinking it was "top of the line". I purchased a 3 year warranty (on top of the 1 year mfg warranty), and I used every bit of that warranty. Every season, it would stop working and I had to use the warranty to take it in so they didn't charge me (even though they tried charging me every single time). Happened to me for 4 years straight. After both warranties went out, I went back to my old neighborhood where I grew up and gave it to a mom/pop lawn mower shop. It was the shiniest thing there and when I told them that they could have it for free, their eyes almost popped out their head. Told them they may need to clean the carburetor or something.... and yes, I prepped for winter storage every year; cleaned air filter, dumped the gas and oil and put fresh fluids the next summer. Still broke down every season.
      Sorry the brand/setup you purchased was a bust and hopefully you'll be back in the battery lawn equipment club, soon.
