    WARNING SURROUNDING DEVICE ENCRYPTION: As someone who works in computer repair, I need to express how important it is to also have periodic backups for your data if you enable encryption. With the exception of data-recovery specialists, most computer repair shops CAN NOT access your drives which are encrypted if the system is either dead or if the OS is too corrupt to allow encryption removal from the Windows Recovery tool and If Bitlocker is enabled and you don't have the key, you may as well kiss your data goodbye.

    Just a quick note on your last point sometimes not updating immediately is the smartest thing you can do. Some updates or patches can break another. The other reason to possibly hold off is there might be a undiscovered problem that might require another patch to fix why update to a vulnerable patch when the one you currently has is just fine? Your best bet is to wait a week or two to see if anyone discovered any issues with it and if not then do the update.

    • @autisticgirlawareness7420
      @autisticgirlawareness7420 2 роки тому +1

      I wait until I’m fiorced to update once my computer or phone start going too slow or buggy then I know it’s update time sometimes Apple will purposely force you to update when you don’t want to but you’ll eventually have to do it anyways.

    • @TheHouseOfWaffles
      @TheHouseOfWaffles Рік тому

      With Windows 7 I actually took the time to look up details on each individual update package before installing it, and then I would allow only one package to install at a time so that I could easily verify which, if any, update screwed things up and roll it back. The unfortunate downside to this was that installing updates 1 at a time instead of say 10 at a time slowed down the "check for updates" process such that it started taking several hours just to determine which updates were available. I figure it must have been slowly analyzing each update log.

      Jesus Christ saved my life he can save yours to. No body is perfect except Jesus Christ. So he was the perfect sacrifice for the world and he became that sacrifice. So that we can be perfect in God’s eyes all we need to do is. Repent from our sinful wicked ways and surrender our life’s to him. Jesus Christ. Repent meaning acknowledge and forsake your sins. Know you have sinned and know you are not good in God’s eyes. Forsake meaning as in try your absolute best to not sin. We have to be clean and filled with the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ said we must be born again to enter The Kingdom of Heaven.
      God bless you all. I love you all may you all find Jesus Christ as your Lord Savior .

When asked, I was told to buy a book (which is a technical 1000+ page book). I found this video while looking for basic maintenance for your computer. I am currently looking into a way to properly back my items up so I can put them into my outlook reminder and trying to find a way to network them all so I can see my files from my pc onto my laptop. @@playa124us that's just not true. And sorry, but that's still pretty ignorant as a parent. I mean, I'm a capable adult, but for some reason, computer stuff just doesn't click for me. Besides, this video is a tips video on how to maintain your computer. Something every parent should teach their kids if they have that knowledge. Just like parents should teach their children how to cook, how to clean the house, and even do the taxes so that when children leave the house, they have a solid foundation to stand on. And teaching children simple tech stuff will help the parents in the long run. Not every 'child' is a lazy so-and-so. However, my Dad can't tell his screwdriver bit from another. We both bought the same storage cabinet. I put it up within an hour and he did it like 3 times and spent the day putting it together. I just gave him some simple tips on how to put these storage cabinets together for the next time instead of telling him to just "google it".

    Once you have an SSD as the boot drive, I recommend disabling fast startup. The difference in boot times is just a few seconds and it saves the the potential problems fast startup causes. Once you shut down, you know you will start up fresh when next you are ready to use the computer. Also eliminates problems that comes from Windows locking the drive on shutdown.

    Regarding your last point: I was relaxing on a weekend away, but had my laptop with me for an online event. Unfortunately, Windows decided to update the moment I booted it up, offering me no chance to delay that update. Fortunately, I booted in time for the 2.5 hour update procedure to finish, just in time for me to get into the online event, but it would be much more helpful if Windows told us how large an update is and how long it takes to install. I've already had updates fail for lack of space (why didn't the system check if there was sufficient space first?)

    • @declan_youtube
      @declan_youtube 2 роки тому +2

      How (at least in my experience) Windows schedules its updates is during inactive times (like 2:00 am), then it will prompt you for an update and after a few unaccepted prompts it will just update. As for why didn't Windows check if there was enough space, There are multiple factors that would make this difficult. The size of the drive Windows is stored in, the other files in that drive. I'm not saying that it'd be impossible, but not really worth it due to the fact not many people would have use to know how large an update is

    Unfortunately, not all updates are created equal. As a screen reader user, I do wait a few weeks before I install any Windows updates, even security updates. But I have a legitimate reason for doing so. Sometimes accessibility issues come up after updates to the system, and if there is an accessibility issue that prevents me from accessing some parts of my computer, that app, part of the UI, and/or feature is unusable to me. I hear, for example, that some people are experiencing, or had experienced, accessibility issues, so I’m not going to upgrade to Windows 11 until I hear from others that accessibility issues are resolved. It's not just Windows users that may come across accessibility bugs, macOS, iOS and Android users as well. In fact, there was an iPhone update recently that was so bad that it crashed the screen reader completely. It was fixed later as part of an update.

    I left an (unecrypted) laptop at the Budget rentacar counter at DFW after a long wait in line (carrying another carryon and luggage). Fortunately I remembered as soon as I got to the car, ran back in and got it back, and it was OK. It is amazing how much mental work there is in keeping track of everything when traveling on the road, until you settle in to a hotel room. How do people air-travel with a lot of gear (TSA etc) and never make a mistake? (and I do have TSA-Pre).

    HELLO JOE! Am an avid Subscriber, you are my first 'Go to' when diagnosing PC issues! I recently built a new Computer in my old Tower with an MSI Z390-A PRO Motherboard with an Intel Pentium Gold Processor G5400 CPU @ 3.7GHz! Next added 64.0 GB DDR4 3200 Ram! Also a ZOTAC GAMING GeForce GTX 1 Video Card! Recently upgraded all my HHD's with an Intel 660p Series M.2 1 TB SSD Drive C and two WD I TB internal SSD's! My Computer now boots up completely for a cold start in 30 seconds!!!! (Once in a while when I turn it on, it Boots into the Bios Screen)!!!(But when I wont to boot into Bios, no matter what key combination I press it wont go into Bios on Command)! Windows will not display on my Digital Monitor but I can see the Bios Screen on another HDMI Output to my 32 inch TV! Am running XMP Mode and Gaming Mode on the MSI along with allocating 3/4 of my Ram to Process my Adobe Premiere 2022! My Question is: How do I get the computer to Boot into Windows EVERY TIME? And secondly, How do I get my computer to boot into Bios on command?

    One thing you really forgot: When downloading software to install, you must save it instead of run, and before install scan it for malware. I have Malwarebytes installed on my computer, so I right-click the .exe file and scan with Malwarebytes. If there's any malware it will be quarantined.

I'm currently using Norton for my primary security and Malwarebytes as my secondary protection, so far, between them, I've not been infected since using them, and I'm often more at risk then the average person as I work in Web Development and sometimes have to deal with fixing hacked websites, which always puts me at risk of getting an infection to my own computer from those websites. I've considered trying Kaspersky at times but wasn't sure how good it would be or now well it would work with MalwareBytes.

As I used the run command for everything, menus and shortcuts are useless to me. when you actually know all the shortcuts and run commands, the mouse really takes a back seat, I actually find it mildly annoying any time I actually have to touch it outside of gaming.
