Mango often downplays his intellect but he’s more intelligent than he lets on. He’s got confidence, fantastic charisma and knows how to simplify anything, which is a skill not many people have.
Mangos mentality has really impressed me over the years. It’s like even when he’s losing, he always stays in it and leaves space for things to turn around. Meanwhile other players get shook by the moment
I love how mango is like a kinda smart dumb guy lmao he doesn't have an extensive vocabulary or anything, but he is pretty wise when he's speaking from experience and doesn't pretend to be more intelligent than he actually is
@@HappyAppleGaming smart people who are confident don't need to pretend to be smart using big words would make him harder to understand, so mango doesn't it's optimal
You can’t think while playing you have to do all the preparation beforehand in practice. All of your movement, neutral and punish needs to be automatic in tournament if you take an L you just have practice more.
@@LANBobYonson 100% right. I've finally realized that myself a few weeks ago and I've gotten insanely good insanely quickly compared to how long I'd been playing before I realized that
@@LANBobYonson I'm an ultimate boy but melee was my first smash so it has a special place to me and I follow the scene. But ur 100 percent correct. Ult isn't as fast as melee but it's still not good to think while you play. I caught myself messing up a lot cuz I was too caught up in my game plan
I love how these guys have to figure so much out to get the best out of themselves. The ideas here are so valuable not even just for the game but in life. I think my New Year’s resolution is gonna be to find something to become really good at.
Good for you. I’ve been following the scene for years and I’m still a scrub Luigi. I play Falco when I want to be serous, but 99% of the time I don’t want to be serious. God I love Melee
IMO the best way to train yourself to pick up habits is watch several games by the same players. Watch and see when they do certain actions and just try to call them out to yourself. Try to call out their moves before theyve even done them. Pause the game even and try to write down every single action that’s about to take place then press play and see if you were right. It helps a ton
Great video. This is like in self-defense. You train your body and mind so that you don't have to think about what to do in certain moments because in real life you won't have time to think before danger happens. You learn to associate through repetition what to do in that instant. Eventually it becomes a reflex. It becomes like breathing. But also important is you need to be resilient. We're all going to fail at some point, so what you do after matters the most. You can't control the past but you can control the present.
I can second the old players thing, about people simply happy that you're playing; there was a while i wasn't playing melee in my hometown, and when i came back people were really happy just seeing me there competing again
Melee is interesting. Its the flow state and the input practicing. Mango is talking about the flow state in a tournament that is output. But playing out of tournament and learning is the input. Its all output from that input come tourny.
Meditating is broken. Do it every day and youll notice after a while that your life is will be so much better. Being present is the foundation to success in everything.
Just went to my regional and placed exactly where i should have and lost to people that make sense for me to lose to, but ive beaten before. Having an expectation going in totally destroyed my mentality in game 3 and 5 of both sets i lost. Thank you for the very well timed content mang0, the goat.
people seem suprised mang0 is smart but like unironically there are very few things in the world you can be elite at without being atleast smart in a few certain areas. whether that makes you smart across the board is a different thing but like you can't be good at anything competitive without some really good pattern recogonition skills and problem solving skills.
automatic emotions are the most goated pattern recognition processes in the world, so using those to call out patterns in opponents is the right way to go.
As an old bobby fan mango teaching scar is the greatest gift a a man can get. The goat teaching the worlds previous "top 6 player" just tickles the pickle. Real talk though, how did bobby even get 6th at genesis? LOL
Combination of factors. He was definitely playing well compared to the field for a while there, Genesis was his highest but other tournaments before and after he was doing well. He also had the ability to play with the top players at the time regularly for practice which helps you level up way more than beating up players much weaker than you. The better question is why did he fall off more than some other players? Answer is because the meta changed, especially for Falcon specifically, and he never really adapted his style until recently to play around the drastically different meta and "new" options that are now standard.
Mango often downplays his intellect but he’s more intelligent than he lets on. He’s got confidence, fantastic charisma and knows how to simplify anything, which is a skill not many people have.
absolutely. dude is a genius for the things he cares about 100%

High social intelligence for sure, which is something I would think most ppl don’t expect from a pro gamer
He would not be as good as he is without being really smart even though he would never admit it
Of course. He's has an extraordinary mind.
These coaching sessions really show mango in a diff light and becomes much more clear why he’s been good for so god damn long
Mangos mentality has really impressed me over the years. It’s like even when he’s losing, he always stays in it and leaves space for things to turn around. Meanwhile other players get shook by the moment
it's part o the reason he's so good at losers runs when most people can't even reset in grands
You do not “try” to enter your flow. You “let” yourself enter your flow. :)
