- Music clip culled from the season 2 episode of "The Six Million Dollar Man" entitled "The Seven Million Dollar Man" (1974) in which bionic men Barney Miller (actor Monte Markham) and Steve Austin (actor Lee Majors) run to collect a red box containing plutonium transported by foreign gangsters but things turn wrong and Barney Miller looses his mind and enjoys beating up his inferior opponents.
Composer Oliver Nelson not only writes a powerful funky action-packed cue but adds a touch of acid-rock throughtout a saturated electric guitar to individualize the unbalanced and agressive Barney Miller who acts in a trance state: see from 02:32, at 03:36 and the highlight at 03:41 when Barney exclaims: "It's wild, Steve. It's wild".

come on, get serious. this was lame ass hell. the "special effect" was shooting the scene in slow motion, thats it. the fight was crappy and unrealistic as well. this was an abomination.
It was all we had in those days for fx. Yeah cheesy but better than nothing. I grew up in Canada with 3 tv channels😂

I had the pleasure to meet Monte Markman and tell him how much I enjoyed his work on the SMDM. He was very gracious and appreciative as we chatted. Great guy and a fine actor.

I never knew that Oliver “Stolen Moments” Nelson did this music. Of course, as a little kid growing up in the 70s I didn’t know anything about Oliver Nelson at that point anyway.

Six Million Dollar Man is one of those action series that fans still want to revisit after more than 40 years. The background score of 1970s flicks were excellent.

He returned to the series later. And became a criminal. With his bionic powers. At full power then turned against the criminals
I recently had the pleasure of watching this episode on CozyTV. I loved that battle between Steve and Barney at the end of the episode. Still great after forty years!

Thanks to the many chairs and boxes... but Majors and Markham made it very believable. And with the slo-mo, the music and reverberating sounds and images, it is a tv gem, that's undeniable!!

He died so shortly after he did the Six Million Dollar Man music that he was already dead when they needed a theme song for the Bionic Woman. That's why they went with Jerry Fielding for that show.

I remember this episode! Watched it when I was 9-years old! Monte Markham was one of my favourite actors, and he was great as The Seven Million Dollar Man!

One of the best episodes in the whole series. This is right up there with the Big Foot episodes. Actor Monte Markham was actually the one that was going to play "The Six Million Dollar Man" but the role was given to Lee Majors. I think that Major's was excellent as The Six Million Dollar Man and Markham was also very good as The Seven Million Dollar Man.

But The Eight Million Dollar Man was the best, short-lived spin-off starring Donny Most. Whenever he accomplished one of his amazing feats he would use his catchphrase "I still got it."
I would have sure liked to have seen a third installment of the seven million dollar man, with a by then stable and confident version of the Barney called upon to save Steve and Jamie.
They could have done an entire spinoff with Markham.

This was fun to watch Monte Markham as Barney Miller, he was truly crazed with having that much power and enjoying it immensely!!! The look on his face while he was lifting the truck was priceless and gave it a stark realism. How they pulled off the stunts in this sequence was awesome and seamless, especially throwing that poor dude through the fence, that REALLY had to smart!!!!!

Oliver Nelson composed some great stirring incidental tracks before his sad untimely death during the making of the series in 1975. It's just a shame that over 40 years on, no one still hasn't released the complete soundtrack score of The Six Million Dollar Man on CD. Especially the ones of Oliver Nelson.

Killer combo Oliver Nelson and SMDM action sequence, just as much fun to watch today as it was back in 1974!!!! Plus you have to admit awesome effects and stuntmen.
That was one of the best action sequences in the show. If only they could have been that quality. Particularly impressed with Barney lifting that guy over his head.

I love this series, me and my elder brother play with each other i pretend I am Austin and my elder pretend he is bigfoot. Good memory from childhood time. Thank u Lee major and Lindsay Wagner for good memories. Love from Pakistan.
Monte Markham was perfectly cast for the role. He looked like he had a blast filming this scene!! Some great TV was made in the 60's and 70's!!

@@acfran8586 Actually no! It is not this episode but another one. The episode of talking to dolphins is "Burning Bright", with William Shatner. William Shatner is the actor that plays Captain Kirk in the old Star Trek series.

Monte Markham could easily have made a spin-off or been a recurring character showing how to tame our darker side. Markham acted out what many of us 7-9 years old wanted to do with the bad guys. And what about meeting Lindsay Wagner as the Bionic Woman in a contentious episode? Wow! (I am totally geeking out.)
What a great episode! The bionic action was off the charts. I really wish they would have done more with Barney and used him in future episodes. Would have been great seeing them work together.

Great clip! Classic! Great action on both Lee Majors and Monte Markham. FYI Monte Markham was the runner up for the roel of Steve Austin. Here we have the 7 Million Dollar Episodes to show both of these great actors!
I just wanted to point out the superb level of acting through facial expressions both actors are able to achieve. Monte Markham as being power crazed and Lee Majors wide range of going from compassion for the crooks, to concern over Barney. Really great music score.
superior bongo and conga action, with strings and fuzz pedal accents here and there too, if i remember correctly. Nelson was an underrated genius, and sadly passed away far too early.
Hands down the best series of the 70's and one of the best ever ; the slow motion was perfectly tailored to the action sequences, the fights were slap up , the plots super and Lee Majors ideal for the lead role which he helped become iconic.
The STUNTMEN Were really good in this show!! The 7 million dollar Man in this team up with Steve Austin was actually originally slated to play the starring lead, but Lee Majors got the role instead, I like how they later teamed them up for this Exclusive Episode!! 👍👍
Watching this makes me appreciate the unsung heroes the stuntmen.

I like that, when Steve catches up with Barney and grabs his arm, all Steve does is stare at him - no words needed, his face when he looks at Barney says it all. Yeah I know this show is ridiculously corny by today's standards, but I thought it was a nice / subtle touch.
This series always had great music.
One of my favorite shows as a kid, especially this episode. It was wild seeing Barney get excited about his strength. I liked it when he broke the gun and turned over the car.

I loved how when Steve stopped Barney’s arm in mid swing and the sound effect of 2 steel plates colliding.Barney was still trying his best to break free of Steve’s grip and Steve didn’t budge or have to exert himself.
It was like Steve was stronger.
You could see Steve had a better character and disappointed with Barney.
Yeah, this was the Cobra Kai of the 70s, one guy hyped on his abilities, while the other just wanted to defend himself.
Steve obviously had an upgraded bionic model arm.

The bionic sounds weren't used until the 1974 episode "Day of the Robot". Even then it was originally used for the robot. The bionic sounds weren't routinely used until mid-season two in 1975.

Monte Markham was considered for the Six Million Dollar Man role of Steve Austin before Lee Majors got the part. Would have been good if they chose Monte, he's a good actor himself.
Ha, yes, I totally agree, Barney was a brilliant character, they could have done a lot more with him, I think he came back one more time although as I recall it wasn't quite as good as the first one for some reason, the actor who played him Monte Markham was incredibly talented, I mean he really got into parts big time and he was just so natural, I remember this episode and all the other episodes way back in those days, The Six Million Dollar man was one of the best Sci-Fi series going, right up there with things like Timeslip, The Tomorrow People, TimeTunnel, Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea and all those many other golden classics that were around in our childhoods in those early days of the 70's, many thanks.

Of course, it's known to most fans that Monte Markham was the ORIGINAL choice for Steve Austin but Harve Bennett thought he looked too "steely-eyed". Lee Majors had a "Gary Cooper" quality that got him the role.

Oh, definitely. He was clearly represented as the "new and improved" model. Unfortunately, his mental stability couldn't match his hardware so he had to be turned down.
I talk only about the actor, not about the bionic model... Monte Markham seems to be stronger than Lee Majors...

And I think that's what cost him the role of Steve Austin. He had a lot of intensity as you can see which is why he was so convincingly unhinged. Lee Majors was more reserved which made it easier for him to "live" with the day to day routine of being bionic, he could play it down whereas Monte could not.
Thanks for explain to me the reason....I think like you, Lee is more reserved... For me, Lee is the perfect choice for this role.

The "acid-rock" guitar sound starts right when they show the fence. I thought the fence was electric for a minute. Now that would have been cool.
