Great job. Thanks. I am fortunate to have a Switch OLED and a Steam Deck and although automatically games just play better on the Steam Deck sometimes when I look at a game that is available on both I also keep in mind battery life and if it is a game I am actually going to play in portable mode away from a power outlet I lean towards the Switch. Even with its downgraded graphics and most likely because of those downgraded graphics I know I will be able to play the game longer on a single charge on the Switch. The fact we are at this point in gaming and can even play these games on the go is not lost on me. BTW I highly recommend playing the Sega Genesis Collection on the Steam Deck because the games play flawlessly it makes the Steam Deck feel like a modern day Sega Nomad.
personally most of these games i would not mind on the switch or the steam deck, i have sank about 130 hours into subnautica and the graphics and resolution have never effected my game play. thats only me tho
Great job on this comparison! Despite whichever people may prefer, it’s wild the all these games are playable on a console that can sell for just $200 USD new (Switch Lite). And if you’re willing to fork up another $200 on top, then you essentially have an entry level gaming PC in the palm of your hands (Steam Deck 64GB). I do think, however, that in the handheld gaming market, battery life and power efficiency needs to be a big consideration in these comparisons. The Steam Deck may be able to push better graphics and high resolutions, but does that matter if you are always tethered to a power chord, lugging around a battery pack, or only being able play where electrical outlets are nearby? I think a lot of handheld gamers would prefer longer untethered gaming sessions over slightly higher resolutions and prettier textures (that’s what we have gaming PCs and home consoles for).
I want a steam deck because the ergomic controlls, screen size, and display type, thinking of keeping ny switch v2 for 1st party games like Oddessey and Pikmin.
I have a rule with myself that, if I can get a game I want for my Switch on my Steam Deck, I will always (or nearly so) choose the Deck because I have always thought that the PC version of games are superior performance and graphics-wise, at least. Am I wrong to do this, then?
13:34 I completely disagree. As a semi-copetetive player I've played both and the switch version has so much input delay it's nearly uplayable online. Especially in a 3v3 match it becomes really choppy. I did the ranked placements and got to Plat/Diamond on the switch while I'm GC on the steam deck... The input lag on the switch is very high for this game to the point where you start questioning your skills, it's really bad.
you can actually hit 60fps on some games tested here on the steam deck without turning down graphics, like on borderlands pre sequel, all i had to do was use experimental proton and it was flawless.
19:20 graphic is the same shows lack of reflection for the switch Also Im getting strong feeling that u favor the switch for whatever reason. Local multiplayer is the thing for majority of games mentioned, throughout workshop additions or whatever on the steam deck and it runs flawless, also this video made me realize how bad switch ports are, it feels so forces. Subnautica is the worst one easily due to low render distance, it's just insane that u get such disadvantage and lose so much fun just because u chose the wrong platform. damn
The Switch is better than the Steam Deck because it has that Nintendo magic and gameplay is king over graphics and frame rates and as long as the frame rate is smooth and it doesn’t affect the gameplay then that’s all that matters.
@@Adamtendo_player_1 How is nintendo switch better when Steam deck can play all the nintendo games but with far better performance?.. just compare BOTW and TOTK on switch vs steam deck and its night and day diference.
So....are we getting a correction? "Hey sorry guys, I didn't realise you could easily just connect multiple wireless controlllers to the Steam Deck and play local co-op." I've played emulated switch games with my switch joycons...don't tell me that the controls make the switch version superior. Tell me you're not a pc gamer without telling me. If you want options, pc will always win. The only thing the switch had over a good pc was mobility and then the Deck entered chat. I have all the consoles, so no I'm not a pcmr guy who doesn't have experience with the Switch.
The Deck LCD model also costs twice as much as a Switch V2 where i'm at so yeah you'd expect games to look better on much more expensive PC hardware, the point is the Switch looks amazing for how much it costs by comparison, nothing really comes close to the value you get on the Switch. Look at Metroid Prime Remastered and tell me it doesn't look incredible for a console that costs less than $300
Lol u give switch points many times without making any sense, almost like if ur giving it points just to make the score closer to the deck even if it doesnt deserve those points... A good example is the rocket league part, u said switch wins because local co op, even tho u can also play local co op on deck too, and without mentioning the performance is shit and the latency is unbearable on the switch, very important for a competitive game like rocket league
In Rocket League, he also mentions the exclusive Nintendo skins for the Switch. It's not just the local co-op. And the performance isn't shit... He literally said that you can increase the framerate by lowering the texture quality.
@@angelodescordo8455 skins no one even uses after the novelty wears off, and the performance IS shit, micro stutters a lot and latency is unbearable specially in local co op, hell its not even stable 60 in performance mode
@WWEECENA The novelty of the skins wears off? Well, you can say the same about any community mod for PC games. If you keep using that fanmade Zelda skin on the PC version of Skyrim then the novelty will wear off eventually. So what? That's not a good argument. Micro stutters and fewer than 60FPS doesn't mean that the performance is "shit". It means that it's sub-par. The game runs fine but not great.
@@angelodescordo8455 i like how you mention a totally unrelated point as a "argument" and calling me out for actually pointing out facts Community mods? When did i even mention that so why even mention it? But now that you mention it mods do help thats how pros train with training packs or custom levels, something not possible on the switch And yes it does when every mili second counts in this game, its a competitive game i can tell you're a switch fanboy by how you pointing out irrelevant things and by coping and pretending the switch version isnt shit for this game Also flash news: i own both versions of this game and unlike you i can objectively say the switch port is ass
@@WWEECENA Every comment you have written so far has been extremely toxic for no good reason. Do you have any personal issues? My condolences. In many of these comparisons he said that the Steam Deck version is better because the game has mods. But you didn't say anything about that, nothing about the "novelty wearing off" like it's a terrible flaw. Apparently this problem only exists for exclusive Switch skins. You are being hypocritical here. Again, sub-par performance is not the same as "shit" performance. An example of shit performance is the original version of Cyberpunk 2077 when it was releassd in 2020. That's what shit performance looks like, that's what an unplayable game is. So you should learn the difference. If you think that performance can only either be "shit" or "great" without anything in-between then you're just simple-minded.

So you’re comparing a handheld pc that’s about two years old vs a console that’s been around for over three times that and didn’t have top end hardware when it came out and is significantly cheaper. You’re basically comparing a gameboy colour to a PSP.
Yeah, so? The Switch is still currently on the market, so it's not unreasonable to compare them as they're both modern handheld gaming devices. If you are on the fence on which to buy, videos like these are helpful.

The deck is better hardware no argument. But even as a PC guy i prefer the switch for three reasons. 1. The steamdeck battery life is horrible, yes even eith paired back settings, cutback to 40 frames etc. 2. The steamdeck is too bulky for a daily carry device when i aleeady have so much with me. 3. With friends, family and my son who aren't tech people,i can hand them and share the switch and they don't really need explanation or a lesson on how to use the thing. I like the deck it's a great device, but there's a reason the Deck is extremely niche compared to the switch even though hardware wise it puts the switch to shame.
I love this video as you make it clear that both systems have their benefits instead of picking a clear winner (you only mentioned your preference for each game). I prefer the deck myself but alot of people miss the fact it’s not for everybody, end up buying one and then go back to the switch and saying they don’t see a use in the deck, the same can be said with the opposite where people that would prefer the deck, buy a switch and then criticize the switch for not giving them freedom over the device. For alot of people putting down another 500 dollars for more options of what you can do with the device and performance wont cut it.
5:57 can't you uncap the fps to sqeeze out more than 60 since the refresh rate is 90hz on deck? I'm pretty sure oled deck is capable of handling more than 60 fps in doom
Switch hardware is at least 5 years older than the steamdeck. Also Nintendo never intended to get 60 fps performance but solid'30 fps gameplay. Got them both. Each has its advance above thenother.
I sense a nintendo fanboi on the heavy defense on the switch versions with remarks "on the steam deck it is much better but the switch is fun too" haha. For real tho, steam deck local coop and docked mode works great, dunno what u talking about.
The thing about this video is that you're only going off of how the Steam Deck functions by default without mods, controller layouts, plugins, bluetooth controllers/docks as others have mentioned? Most of the games on both Steam Deck and Switch can all be easily tinkered with to fit on the Steam Deck, and all switch games can be put on an emulator and just utilized on steam deck regardless
I was surprised how good bioshock infinite looks on the switch sure it’s not as nice to look at and is a bit blurrier compared next to the pc version but looks decent, well done devs 👏👏
The only win the Switch has for me was when one time I was playing with my steam deck while laying down and it fell off my hands, and since the steam deck is relatively heavier than the switch, it bruised my nostrils for a week. So in terms of falling off in your face and hurting your nose I'd say the switch wins on this one.
When it comes to Portal, the differences are mostly down to the switch having the console exclusive 'Stay Alive' version that was previously only available on the xbox 360 PC doesnt have access to this version
Frame rate really matters to me when I play games. I notice a clear difference between 30 to 60, and 60 to 144. That being said, if the frame rate is at least STABLE at 30fps, I'm totally fine with it.
Rocket leaque on pc supports 4 player local co op off an online, you just need to connect more conntrollers and plug to a tv, just like a switch would need
1:25 For Borderlands the Pre-sequel, by default it runs terribly because’s playing the linux version. If you use proton, it’ll play significantly better
This video summarized: PC version vs seven year old console version, the PC release is superior. Seven year old hybrid console vs. handheld PC with more modern hardware, handheld PC wins. I accurately predicted the outcome of this video before even watching it. It could have just ended after the Borderlands games.
It seems to me that the games that you say the Steam Deck lose are just bad porting. Remember these games are not tailored for steam deck, steam games are tailored for every PC that can run them unlike in Switch that are only tailored for it. Which is not really surprising that its inferior cuz its an old device.
And you just tested the Steam Deck... Their handheld competitors have GPU horsepower to beat Xbox Series S on Switch form factory 😅 Check the OneXPlayer 2 Pro with Ryzen 8840u...
And you can still play old games on steam without having to pay extra subscriptions like nintendo online. Or in other situations, where you need to buy the same game again on the new system or buy the old console somewhere in order to play a game you already bought. The reason I prefer pc over consoles has always been this, no extra subscriptions for online play, better sales if you can wait a little, use mods without getting sued, and so far most games I bought on steam I can download and play them when I want. Nintendo exclusives are pricey (Sony games too) and, while graphics are not everything true, I expect more if I'm going to pay that much. Also the way the game plays and feels is also important. I guess Nintendo is the only one with exclusives, Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem, among others. I only care about Xenoblade and Fire Emblem but with the crazy amount of games that we have nowadays I can live without those(I guess I can still play them on the emulator). Sadly on Pc a big problem we are having is how much effort devs put into the games performance and Denuvo. In the consoles case, you just need to put the disc/download the game and boom you're playing. But that's just me :p At the end of the day, there's a lot more games nowadays compared to years ago. So pick the system that you are more comfortable with (If you can afford them xD).
Bro I like your comparison. I got multiple consoles and love them all. I just like to check the comments to make fun of the weirdos that get their panties soaked at the mention of a steam deck. And don’t say anything negative about a lame deck (oops). They get real sensitive… “you can totally dock a steam deck bro… clearly operator error bro… you need to go back to computer class and take basic c++ bro… clearly you don’t understand true gaming bro…” 😂😂😂 foh. Nintendo is great. Steam deck is cool… the beauty of options play whatcha ya like…
So many things wrong with this post, obviously made by someone who does not understand pc gaming at all, and the way he said the deck technically can support gyro controls of course it can, a really piss poor posting.
Ergonomics for me are paramount, and really those differences are nothing to me and I don´t play fps games, mostly indies so even more reason to own a switch. It is obvious these high demanding games will run better on the Steam Deck, it is a much newer and expensive machine, and most of these games are of a particular taste too, I would never play the most demanding in that list in a Switch, depending on your gaming taste you´ll want one over the other. I play stuff like Axiom Verge, Celeste, The Messenger, Hotline Miami, Super Meat Boy, Hades, Hollow Knight, Ori, Guacameele, Blasphemous, Dead Cells, and of course Mario and Zelda and other exclusives, so in my case the Steam Deck would be just something too big for my hands, not as comfortable as the Switch (which is just in the proper size limit for me, I even like more the smaller version!)
That's more to save resources rather than censorship, as the man has the cigarette too in the switch version, but the smoke are extra particle effects on screen
It's really just "Switch vs PC optimization quality". Of course most games will be better on the Steam Deck in erry possible way. But there is seemingly no end to poorly optimized PC games Games are cheaper on PC. Multiplayer is free on PC. Plus, Steam Deck OLED has higher refresh rate and frame rate caps that can add a LOT more battery/playtime than the NS OLED could ever dream of I had to buy NieR on the Switch bcuz the PC port was so damb bad. It looked and ran so much better on the NS than on my Laptop which is miles above my Switch in erry category. But I hear they actually finally fixed the game after all these years
Nice video however doesn’t take into consideration one thing. I’ve got both devices and I am telling all of you that Switch is much lighter, smaller and sexier and easier to use that most of the time I’d rather choose Switch over more fps or slightly better graphics. Trust me.
Comparing Steam with Nintendo Switch is wrong because they have a big price difference. Switch is a completely homemade console and has completely optimized software. They have a much better battery switch!
I paid 360 euro for my base steam deck 64gb lcd model. Regular switch goes for around 300, not much of a price difference, however huge gaming experience difference
I will go for steam deck better games prices and has better games like you can play iceborne, god of war etc and other heavy games and can play online for free.

how u gonna name nintendo games and not bring up mario 😂
This was very helpful, and also I discovered a few games that sure I will play in my deck and in my switch! Thanks for the video 😄

garbage pc gamer
This is basically comparing PC Games to Nintendo Switch
No it isn’t lmao. The deck is a handheld console and switch is a handheld
the deck is a handheld gaming PC genius
@@darkemperor418
Technically true, but there's a significant difference between playing a steam game on a full gaming PC rig and playing it on a steam deck.
@@darkemperor418 you can't edit videos on any console but you can on steam deck , so yes it is a handheld-pc
@@TheGamingDandy
Yeah I agree to that
personally most of these games i would not mind on the switch or the steam deck, i have sank about 130 hours into subnautica and the graphics and resolution have never effected my game play. thats only me tho
I want a steam deck because the ergomic controlls, screen size, and display type, thinking of keeping ny switch v2 for 1st party games like Oddessey and Pikmin.
i would like you mentioning something like battery life for the systems in a next video too great video youre so underated!
Great suggestion!
Skyrim has Stranded Deep as it’s name
whoops...
As someone that enjoys both the steam deck and the Nintendo switch, I'm on both sides and I play both games! 😎
Yeah they are both great devices for games
I have a rule with myself that, if I can get a game I want for my Switch on my Steam Deck, I will always (or nearly so) choose the Deck because I have always thought that the PC version of games are superior performance and graphics-wise, at least. Am I wrong to do this, then?
It's not complicated to dock and connect controllers to the Steam Deck in my opinion.
The input lag on the switch is very high for this game to the point where you start questioning your skills, it's really bad.
you should also compare the prices of the games.
Free online multiplayer as well.
Steam definitely wins in that category 😉😏
Witcher 3 is £45 on Switch. The entire Witcher collection is like £40 on Steam, or like £15 on sale.
you can actually hit 60fps on some games tested here on the steam deck without turning down graphics, like on borderlands pre sequel, all i had to do was use experimental proton and it was flawless.
19:20
graphic is the same
shows lack of reflection for the switch
Also Im getting strong feeling that u favor the switch for whatever reason. Local multiplayer is the thing for majority of games mentioned, throughout workshop additions or whatever on the steam deck and it runs flawless, also this video made me realize how bad switch ports are, it feels so forces. Subnautica is the worst one easily due to low render distance, it's just insane that u get such disadvantage and lose so much fun just because u chose the wrong platform. damn
20:38 but steam deck has community maps and built in local coop...?

The Switch is better than the Steam Deck because it has that Nintendo magic and gameplay is king over graphics and frame rates and as long as the frame rate is smooth and it doesn’t affect the gameplay then that’s all that matters.

So....are we getting a correction? "Hey sorry guys, I didn't realise you could easily just connect multiple wireless controlllers to the Steam Deck and play local co-op."
I've played emulated switch games with my switch joycons...don't tell me that the controls make the switch version superior.
Tell me you're not a pc gamer without telling me. If you want options, pc will always win. The only thing the switch had over a good pc was mobility and then the Deck entered chat.
I have all the consoles, so no I'm not a pcmr guy who doesn't have experience with the Switch.
Don’t forget, 1st-Party Switch games on the Switch are $60 a pop. Switch games on the Steam Deck are Free99.
The Deck LCD model also costs twice as much as a Switch V2 where i'm at so yeah you'd expect games to look better on much more expensive PC hardware, the point is the Switch looks amazing for how much it costs by comparison, nothing really comes close to the value you get on the Switch. Look at Metroid Prime Remastered and tell me it doesn't look incredible for a console that costs less than $300
That is very true
And then theres the game prices. Like i just bought all 4 arkham games from steam with $5 total. (on sale)
@@angelodescordo8455 i like how you mention a totally unrelated point as a "argument" and calling me out for actually pointing out facts
Community mods? When did i even mention that so why even mention it? But now that you mention it mods do help thats how pros train with training packs or custom levels, something not possible on the switch
And yes it does when every mili second counts in this game, its a competitive game
i can tell you're a switch fanboy by how you pointing out irrelevant things and by coping and pretending the switch version isnt shit for this game
Also flash news: i own both versions of this game and unlike you i can objectively say the switch port is ass
If you think that performance can only either be "shit" or "great" without anything in-between then you're just simple-minded.
amazing video! would like a part 2 (the witcher 3, minecraft, fortnite, Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, metroid prime remastered vs gamecub emulator on pc...)
Conclusion: the Steam Deck has raised the bar for handheld gaming and the Switch is virtually obsolete
@@evdestroy5304switch is Totally portable Device that u can carry on pocket easily not the case with Deck imaging u. have pocket size handheld which can play witcher and Hogwarts legacy thats the conveince for which people buy handheld other wise we do have PS5 or Xbox to play at home for better resolutions
the steam deck bullies the switch
You're basically comparing a midrange phone with a midrange PC. The fact the comparison is as close as it is is pretty amazing tbf.
Most wins are because of local play despite the steam deck supporting that feature
I found the difference to be pretty dramatic in most cases. A generatinal leap difference or more.
I'm not really sure what i expected tbh!
5:57 can't you uncap the fps to sqeeze out more than 60 since the refresh rate is 90hz on deck? I'm pretty sure oled deck is capable of handling more than 60 fps in doom
Switch is so trash it amazes me people defend 30fps in 2024v
Switch hardware is at least 5 years older than the steamdeck. Also Nintendo never intended to get 60 fps performance but solid'30 fps gameplay. Got them both. Each has its advance above thenother.
What I would like to see was a comparative between Switch and Odin 2... and the balls to do it...😁😆
I sense a nintendo fanboi on the heavy defense on the switch versions with remarks "on the steam deck it is much better but the switch is fun too" haha.
Crash Bandicoot on Nintendo Switch? Nani!?!?
The only win the Switch has for me was when one time I was playing with my steam deck while laying down and it fell off my hands, and since the steam deck is relatively heavier than the switch, it bruised my nostrils for a week. So in terms of falling off in your face and hurting your nose I'd say the switch wins on this one.
so far i havent experienced literally any game that runs better on switch opposed to steam deck... . so yes, steam deck do run same games way better

When it comes to Portal, the differences are mostly down to the switch having the console exclusive 'Stay Alive' version that was previously only available on the xbox 360

Rocket leaque on pc supports 4 player local co op off an online, you just need to connect more conntrollers and plug to a tv, just like a switch would need

I normally run my steam deck docked and upscaled to 1080p.
This video summarized: PC version vs seven year old console version, the PC release is superior. Seven year old hybrid console vs. handheld PC with more modern hardware, handheld PC wins.
I accurately predicted the outcome of this video before even watching it. It could have just ended after the Borderlands games.
In my opinion both are equally good. i own both.
This is the way
It seems to me that the games that you say the Steam Deck lose are just bad porting. Remember these games are not tailored for steam deck, steam games are tailored for every PC that can run them unlike in Switch that are only tailored for it. Which is not really surprising that its inferior cuz its an old device.

Its not even a competition. The steam deck is the best handheld in the market.

But that's just me :p
At the end of the day, there's a lot more games nowadays compared to years ago. So pick the system that you are more comfortable with (If you can afford them xD).
So this not the oled switch?

It's really just "Switch vs PC optimization quality". Of course most games will be better on the Steam Deck in erry possible way. But there is seemingly no end to poorly optimized PC games
Games are cheaper on PC. Multiplayer is free on PC. Plus, Steam Deck OLED has higher refresh rate and frame rate caps that can add a LOT more battery/playtime than the NS OLED could ever dream of
I had to buy NieR on the Switch bcuz the PC port was so damb bad.
