It's kinda ironic how a blue rose takes longer to grow than a golden rose if you're focusing on it, considering the golden rose is like the epitemie of all flowers.
Yeah but at this point I really don't want it to change since it's been so iconic for so long. I remember the hours I sat through in ACNL trying to get one... 400hours playtime and never got none, but it's a really nostalgic feeling. Everyone can understand a golden rose is rare, but only an Animal crossing player will know why such excitement when seeing a blue rose... and I love it. :)
When I got blue roses it was so funny. I was trying to follow the BackwardsN method but eventually gave up, UNKNOWINGLY put the final orange roses in one big bunch and one day a blue just suddenly appeared. I was so dumbfounded by it lol
@@Dagnel that's how I got every other colour rose besides gold - they're my town flower so while I was busy setting up my town and doing shit, they were happily breeding 😂
I gave up on my blue rose mission and left my black roses, orange roses and special reds alone. Until a blue appeared from my black batch! My daughter and i screamed lol
Animal crossing needs two things: being able to do things in bulk(i.e. craft multiple items at once, buy multiple things at once, etc.) And a biologist, who can tell you the genetic makeup of flowers
i dont play this game but i feel like alot of people that villiger hunt would like to fly from island to island and not from home to the island, back home to fly to another island again. so maybe thats an idea too :)
@@1995Pieyeah ..villager hunts are fun but also a pain bc you have to individually buy nook mile tickets and it takes like ten seconds per ticket...that time really adds up when youre printing like 50 tickets...and you have to fly back to your island and go thru the whole orville junk to get to another island....why did they do that theyre both such easy fixes i dont get it
I grew blue roses once. I wanted to help cheer up a friend a little after a deep loss with the only flower she still didn't have. It was worth it in the end, but man doing it suuuucked. Hats off to you for doing it 5 times.
It's always so much fun catching these streams and then seeing the final video that shows up. Awesome idea of just following one method at a time in the video though - jumping around would be too confusing, otherwise! Great job as always, Dagnel!
Hey this is awesome and very helpful to actually see the process being done, I've seen guides and been way overwhelmed by just glancing at the charts and lines. Actually having visual steps helps my brain a lot. Thanks much, Dagnel!
blue roses are the final flower for me to get in acnh (aside from golden roses and lilies of the valley that both require 5 stars). turns out the guide i had been using to get all of my other hybrids used the 4 step method which, of course, explains why it's taking forever... definitely time to try something else. thanks for the video dagnel!
update: using the asteriation genepool method, i finally got blue roses!! took notes on the process and it took me 128 days from planting the first seeds until one of the 15 pairs of roses i ended up with gave me a blue. thanks for the guides and for giving me the motivation for the final push to finally have bred every flower in acnh
the genetics and the randomness of flower breeding in this game is so cool and fun. makes me think of my biology degree fondly 😅that being said, i've made blue roses one time and will never be doing it again. holy cow it's hard.
Learned more about genetics in this vid/streams than I ever did is my biology/genetics classes. Thank you for be a great teacher dag! Love the vid as always!
the context that i feel is always missing from these guides is that if you put patterns around a tree and shake it, it doesnt NOT drop furniture or NOT spawn a beehive, the item just gets deleted you need to literally have like four flowers planted in the ENTIRE TOWN because the ones surrounded by patterns are probably spawning flowers that are getting insta deleted
I've been very lazily trying for a blue rose for a while- probably a good thing for me to look into the actual techniques I just thought i was doing it wrong (and i probably was), had no idea they were so rare!
As someone who bred for their own blue roses. I feel your pain. It took a while and I covered my island with flowers, but I finally got one. Definitely one of the most complicated items to get in the game
I really just want to know why the devs decided to make flower breeding like this? Who's idea was it to make flower breeding so convoluted, like I get it some flowers should be rarer than others but still this feels like overkill
I always thought that, since you can pick the flowers in new horizons, the little buds should show the alleles so you can keep track of a flower's parents without tearing your hair out
Omg I’ve been doing the asteration 4-step method without timetravel and after a year of having my current island I still haven’t gotten a blue, this explains it thank you. (Didn’t even know there were other methods 😭)
I have never had the patience to breed for blues, the effort you put into it is pretty awesome. I always just bought clones off people if I ever wanted them, which I really rarely do unless I'm making a rainbow garden.
Heyy, nice! This video turned out great. You’re welcome for all the flower advice (both wanted and unwanted), and I’m sorry for starting the whole downwards arrow existential crisis (if ya know, ya know). Screwed up my sleep schedule for a solid two weeks to catch the streams, but worth it!
The fact that Nintendo put thought into the origins of flowers determining their compatibility with breeding in a game like Animal Crossing is so cool to me. Like they could have easily just made it that you could use whatever flowers, but they put a lot of thought into it.
blue rose videos omg that's nostalgic, i remember my first time growing a blue rose, i was so happy that i got it right that i never threw any of them away and they grew into an invasious field that i later regretted
I enjoy watching your content so much! I'm not much of a commenter but your videos totally deserve the recognition for all the time and effort they take
I've been playing almost every day since release and still haven;t got a blue rose yet so I'll use this as a guide to finally get one! Thank you Dagnel! Edit: It's been 2 months and I finally got a blue rose this morning without time traveling!
Thank you! I was literally about to start trying to get blue flowers, and was gonna just keep going back to your explanation from the 'i got all the flowers' video. This saves me a bunch of digging in the other vid
I created a nookazon account to get a blue rose, I had bred every other flower and decided to give myself a little treat in the form of ending my suffering.
Nice job! This is quite helpful as I'm challenging myself to grow some blue roses! Especially because my daughter really wants some blue roses for her island so this vid rocks! ⚡
Saw the blue roses streams and I’m so excited for the video! Blue roses are my final acnh hangup that I’ve had absolutely no luck on! Awesome video as always
The backwards n method was like the only method that made any sense to me back in the day, it was the only one that seemed it could be decently straightforward... and then I learned later that there were much faster methods LOL. There *is* a way to check the red roses for the correct genes, it requires breeding them with a yellow (I think?) and seeing what comes out EDIT: nvm i got the backwards n and paleh method flipflopped. I definitely did the paleh method *not* backwards n.... so many things to keep track of haha
This video inspired me to get into Blue Rose breeding. I went to school for biochem, so I had a fun time figuring out my own method to get to blue roses. I just finished my run, and on my first attempt I had blue rose buds on day 111 starting from a fresh file. It's essentially a variation/ integration of Paleh's Method and the Reverse Genepool method. 0200x0020 = 100% 0110 White 0110x0110 = 8/16 White, 1/16 0220 Test those whites with 0020 Purple plants. If they're the desired 0220 they will make 100% 0120 Purple offspring. Any other white will produce Purples and Whites 50/50. 0220x2000 = 100% 1110 Red 0220x1110 = Reds, Oranges, Whites, Yellows, Purples. Keep Reds and Oranges. The orange offspring are monogenic 1210 so throw them all in their own big breeding pile. Clone any red and self breed it. The best red offspring, 1220, are 1/3 of the reds harvested from the last step. They produce blue offspring with themselves 25% of the time. I got pretty lucky, a 1120 pair gave me a blue bud on day 111 and the Orange pile gave me a blue bud on day 112. I think this is a bit of an improvement on existing methods, but I would need more people to run the strat to know for sure. Anyways, thanks for the inspiration!
Thank you so much for the explanation. I love the way you showed the different methods. I love blue roses, and to find out its the hardest one to get, this video will help to finally grow one. Thank you 💙💙💙
Hey dagnel! I just wanted to say I found your channel just a couple days ago and I’m already in love. You’re charming and have the same humor as I do, and from your videos I can see you’re very sweet. I also appreciate the little breaks you put in between. I’m excited to see your future content ❤
These streams inspired me to pick up where I left off months ago on my rose breeding attempt. But I can’t figure out which method I was using and I might have to scrap everything and start over 🙃
Yeah I tried getting blue roses for about a month and then gave up and just traded for some on nookazon Why is there complicated genomes and potential offspring in a game about talking animals
I remember being there for the asteriation genepool blue rose! I was the person who joked about a blue rose showing up on day 132 by making a reference to 22 by Taylor Swift, and ended up being correct.
Hi just found the channel seeing if there are newer videos on blue roses. I GOT MY FIRST BLUE ROSE. It actually came from my black rose batch. I had my orange, black and special red batches. This was a long process just watering and time travelling. Lol. But now im watering the blue rose every day and its not cloning itself. So im hoping to get a second soon. Good luck to yall.
DAGNEL - I know you put yourself through some crazy long challenges but I LOVE the flower vids you have made and would love to see some more - and I know you like to play across all of the games so maybe you could do a challenge trying to breed to a certain flower in every game
I bred for blue roses in New Leaf and had decent luck with it, so when I got New Horizons I tried to do the same method but couldn't get it to work. I eventually got two blue roses from a friend and bred those together, but now knowing that I was missing a bunch of steps for Folklore makes me wanna try again (and I might try to get purple windflowers again since they're the only flower I'm missing...)
I just discovered your channel and seriously, bless you for this massive undertaking ! I can't imagine the amount of effort you put into this... I laughed so hard at the part where you paused at the thought of the orange flower child replacing the parent .... Das some Oedipus levels shiz right there X'D I think I used the paleh(??) Method and it took me about 2-3 dedicated months without time traveling. I still keep my patch of special red roses that have 25% of spawning blue roses, those are rarer than my actual blue roses that keep cloning!!! Unfortunately no one can tell how special they are though bc they look like regular red roses... 😭 You sir are the hero we don't deserve! This was fascinating to compare the different methods.
Flower breeding is one of my favorite activities in the game. I never time traveled, but don't remember the exact method I used. Aster 4 step sounded the most familiar to me though. Having as many chances possible makes it much more doable in real time.
this vid was lots of fun ! ive always wondered how long it would take to get all the kk slider songs in the game if u ever fancy doing that it could be a fun challenge
I remember randomly seeing a blue rose among my flowers on my first island and thinking “aww that’s neat”. Then I made a new island and wanted some again. I no longer thought that they were “neat”.
i got my blue roses from hybrid oranges from the hybrid flower islands with special genes from the first few months before those islands were patched out. thank goodness i never had to do this grind.
On my first acnh island, I had flowers growing everywhere and ended up with 8 blue roses without knowing how rare they were. I soon deleted that island before I knew it too🤦🏾♀️
loved watching the streams and i definitely loved the video, great work Dagnel! Edit: it's a very strange feeling to see my own chat messages in a video lmfao
I remember trying to get blue roses, it was when animal crossing was in its prime and people were still playing so I basically had EVERYONE I KNEW COME TO MY ISLAND TO WATER MY FLOWERS. I made my friends suffer for like days, it’s okay though they were compensated in fruit, bells and furniture they didn’t have. Also they got one of ever flower they needed too
I was doing the A 4 step method, and 6 months later still no blue rose. I finally decided to get rid of those red roses and try two other methods. Hoping one of them will finally get me a blue rose before the 1 year anniversary of my new island.
I've been passively doing (what I now know as) the aster 4 step for maybe 2 years now, but somewhere along the way I kinda forgot what I needed to do, so now idk if any of my red roses produced from it are actually the right ones to make blue ☠ so I guess I'll keep those reds together hoping for a blue as I start one of these other methods lol

He literally just watered flowers.

Why is there complicated genomes and potential offspring in a game about talking animals
To be fair it's a lot quicker with friends. I had max people on my island watering all my flowers, which meant they were all breeding each day.
You forgot the 6th method: steal a blue rose from your friend
Loved actually being able to be a part of stream a couple times with you streaming on UA-cam sometimes :)
Why is it so crazy complicated to get these blue roses!!?? I've been playing the game everyday for 2 years straight and I still don't have any!!! 😭🌹💙

Hoping one of them will finally get me a blue rose before the 1 year anniversary of my new island.
teacher: the test won’t be that confusing

I've been passively doing (what I now know as) the aster 4 step for maybe 2 years now, but somewhere along the way I kinda forgot what I needed to do, so now idk if any of my red roses produced from it are actually the right ones to make blue ☠ so I guess I'll keep those reds together hoping for a blue as I start one of these other methods lol
