When my brother and I were surprised with a NES at Christmas along with a cartridge for Super Mario Bros 3 we spazzed out and thought it was a lottery win like no one had experienced before. I watched the Wizard in the early nineties on tv well after super mario 3 had been released and it still blew my little mind at the time. I was lucky to see it at that age had I seen it in my teen years or later I would have been far too cynical to enjoy it. Watching it today would be hugely nostalgic but I still couldn't watch it with the same sense of wonder as I did back then. Seeing video games featured so prominently in a movie was awesome for my younger self, it all seemed so much larger than life at the time. I was lucky to see it at that age had I seen it in my teen years or later I would have been far too cynical to enjoy it. Watching it today would be hugely nostalgic but I still couldn't watch it with the same sense of wonder as I did back then.
Fun fact: the actor who played Lucas in the wizard has been on the sex offender register for years. Let's just say he loves kids a little too much and is not allowed to live near school zones.
This is one of my favorite youtube channels...you cover all the movies from my childhood
Nice job Minty! I would love to see a Minty take on Revenge of the Nerds
No need, we got our revenge! Hence the modern era...
I always loved this time growing up. I had everything of Nintendo and still do. I even have the Nintendo VR that got recalled.
Anyone remember Little Monsters and the show The Wonder Years?
Heck Yeah Minty😎covered👍it awhile back
@@magicvampirelver1321 I didn't know that. I'll look it up
@@maxxas5067 yup, love the movie, i have it, i have my son watch it now too😊
I absolutely love this movie, wish they made more like it.
I hope and pray they don't remake this. It's perfect as is.
Now it would be xbox
How many kids or teen movies ever even get wide releases nowadays? If they made the mistake of remaking it, it would probably be straight to Disney! 😞
To this day, this movie is still one of my favorites. I share my love for it with my kids and they love it too!
Love this movie growing up despite the gaming advertisement 😂 it's very close to my heart ❤️ lovely video!
I don’t care if it was a giant Nintendo commercial, this movie was my childhood! Thanks for reviewing this, Minty :)
I said to myself if Minty doesn't blow into it at the start, he sucks. Good to know you don't disappoint.
Ikr lol
All that I needed was you, in my life, you’re so right. And all that I wanted was you, you make all my dreams come true. -You did this Minty, lol. I’ve been a big fan of NKOTB since 1990, maybe even ‘88.
Man, I wish Lucas would have played Pinball on the NES with Pinball Wizard played over his gameplay.
Love you channel dude. We would have been great buds as lil kids back in the day. You have brought back a lot of pop culture I loved whose names escaped me
First comment! Hey Minty, love your videos 😁😁
I just picked this movie up on Blu-ray from Shout Factory, watching it for the first time in 2-3 decades, was just magical.
That Jenny Lewis though
I had a major crush on her from this movie. Jealous when she kissed Fred Savage. lol
Yk I loved this movie when I was young, but I haven't thought about it in probably 20 yrs. Thx for the nostalgia once Minty!
Lucas how right you were-
"I love the power glove It's so bad"
@Josh Weaver Right, but he's talking about the movie character, not the actor who played him. Lucas didn't molest children. He was a simple teen bully with a power glove. His actor did all those awful things.
@Josh Weaver wow didn't know he turned into a monster
No joke, I think you tapped into my mind and you're reviewing every movie I love!
FYI: Over-The-Top is a free movie on UA-cam.
So is The Wizard, the last time I checked.
doing gods work
And the award for best comment goes to.......
I don't remember seeing the entire movie but grew up with the NES and Mario Bros. Thanks Minty for the flashback, great music and editing. Please do a video for UHF!
New kids on the block.
Oh oh ohohoh
Oh oh ohoh
The right stuff
oh oh ohohoh

what's in the middle
the white stuff
This was by far one of my favorite movies growing up
and I'm still in videoland to this day and not only am I a great gamer but I deserve a spot in the smash bros roster.
Super Mario bros 3 was HIGHLY anticipated! We were waiting forever for it...and for me, this was my first look at it. I loved this movie n still do. My son, who’s 10, loves it too. Kinda cool to see my son like it like me ☺️
"Just sit down and have fun...DAMNIT"
Very super nice minty 👍🏻!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Was born in 76 so ya this was my time I remember bugging my mom to get me super Mario brothers 3 for x.miss needless to say I got it and mastered it right off
Me too. Born in 76. But I didnt care for Super Mario 3. It looked too cheesy. Played Super Mario 1 & 2 mostly.lol
@@scottmatthias5142 hell I still play on a Atari and a caleco vision lol
@@tomtinkersrezlife278 _Ahhh,_ ColecoVision - Lady Bug, Cosmic Avenger, Jumpman JR, Galaxian, Gorf. I'd love to try to play those games now. LOL!
@@scottmatthias5142 That's funny.. I was born in 80. I played all the classics, watched the cartoons, but for some reason I was never hyped for Mario 3 or The Wizard. Never seen the movie.
Mario 2 was one of my favorites, and it wasn't even a Mario game originally.. lol
Just watched this again. Still a great movie. Also dont forget. Be kind , rewind
He needs to do more horror like final destination or thee ring
its def all 3 things, thanks for the trip down memory lane minty, awesome job again
Toby didn’t just play Spider-Man, he played the best Spider-Man
For some reason, I am under the impression that people thought Tobey played Lucas...or that was my own misunderstanding.
Tobey was the worst. Horrible and wimpy actor.
Not his fault, he was doing what the script and the director called for. I liked Tobey in Pleasantville.
Naw...... -_-
@@shades9415 that who Peter Parker was a wimp smart kid, the amazing Spider-Man guy was the worst, movie made him a king of high school and a jock instead.but I like are newest Spiderman the best so far
Since lots of people are into retro gaming now it's hard to call this movie a time capsule. But it's definitely a product of its time when it comes to showing the good old days of california.
I love the Power Glove......... It's so Bad
Great movie. Watch it with my kids at least once a year.
Who remembers the video game show Video Power!
vegitausa Gamepro magazine had it's own show too.
Love this movie just rewatched it yesterday,as a kid i loved it for the fact that kids were the leads going on an adventurer and of course all the nintendo stuff as an adult i've found new love for the film as a heartfelt story about a family dealing with the death of a young child and how that has affected everyone differently and torn apart this good family, the grief and guilt felt by the father and older brother the part at the end always gets me misty eyed and goosebumps everyone realizing the true meaning of wanting to get to "California" is powerful! And I'm sorry Minty i like most of you videos but you checked your heart at the door with reviewing this film.
C A L I F O R N I A...
YES! Thank you Minty!!! One of my childhood favorites
and later in the 90's his brother plays a kid named Corey.
Actually Boy meets World was on in the 90's. The sequel Girl meets World is with his children.
dang, I didn't think it was that early in the 90's LOL
ONE OF THEE BEST CHILDHOOD MOVIES EVER!
