one of the best channels i discover this year. as a worker in advertising and social media, i love and need to see this kind of stuff. great work, man! great 2021 for you directly from brasil
I love making my own background! It’s totally addictive. It’s also the thing I like to video myself doing most on my own channel too 😆 love seeing those few tools end in something awesome at the end
Love the expresso. As soon as I saw the green cracked one I thought it was just screaming for summer type dishes. Some picnic or country style food. A red and white checked napkin or towel alongside a summer dish. Great video and very informative.
Thanks for all the inspiration!!!! You really helped with my creativity! Any diy top shot set up? Would be great if you could find time for a video! Thanks
Where is the blue blaze from, if you don’t mind sharing? I actually really like it. I know it’s pretty bright and will be only for particular styles of photography but I think it’s awesome
Thank you for the great ideas. For the two that you would like to scuff up, you might want to try using a brown, ochre, or other warm shade of acrylic craft paint (unless your original finish was oil paint - then use oils) to age or soften the patina. Wipe it onto the dry finish quickly, and then wipe or scrub it off, leaving it a little darker in corners and edges. Blessings! As an artist, I have used this technique often, and for many various applications. I think you will like the results.
Skyler, this was wonderful and I also play with paint. Happy new year. I have found that if a backdrop (like your blue one) is too bright I take a scumble glaze (water based) and to that I add a black pva of acrylic paint and wipe it over the board and just keep on wiping until you achieve the saturation you need. The blue and green are wonderful colours you have created cant wait to see what you do next. Many blessings for 2021.
GREAT PHOTOGRAPHY....I LOVE AND RESPECT YOUR AUTHENTIC ADVICE AND PHOTOGRAPHY. WHAT TYPE OF TABLE DID YOU USE TO SUPPORT YOUR BACK DROPS ONCE TO TAKE PHOTOS?
The planks shouldn't be screwed to the battens. Wood is a natural material which absorbs and expells moisture, making it expand and contract. In due course the screws will make the backdrop split along its length.
I use my A3 printer as well as large format printer at print shop to create backdrops. I could create anything I see or have in mind that fits my need. Probably just because I'm too lazy 😄
Dear Sir, First of all I would like to express my heartiest thanks for motivating and educating us. Best pick up from ur message: - "Save ur self some cash + pick up the skill along the way" Hope I will also learn some excellent skills from ur amazing content. Best regards Shadab Alam Mumbai, India
Nah 3x3 is a pretty good size, big enough for most shots, unless you’re planning on doing some type of gathering shot with multiple plates and dinnerware
I really enjoy and appreciate your videos. I'm new to the YT video and photography game, game, but I've been making some of my own backdrops too. I could spend $150 on some pre-made ones, or I can spend a few dollars on paint and stuff from Michael's to make my own. Thank you for the inspiration.
Good stuff, I am a freak about making my own backdrops. But friendly advise, with stains you want ot lay it down and wipe it off, and do ion layers. But your good, Obviously ! ha. With the blue one, if too much, dont be shy to to scuff it up and tone it down, sand it I mean. But great to see someone making rather than buy all the time. HAPPY 2021, Big things !!
ALSO forgot to mention with crackle, try PVA glue, works like a charm. wet on wet. and thick. and can speed up with a heat gun and will emphasize it even more i feel. be Well
Felt like watching a football game... A tiny little bit of content. Only there to place commercials. This makes me sad. Once I really enjoyed your content... But... Commercial at the start...in the middle ... At the end... About 2-3min. Of a 9min vid for the sponsor...I don't know man.
Idk man, you could just appreciate the free information. Like the dude is making videos for free, the least you can do is support the guy by watching a 30 second commercial.. you should be stoked a youtuber youve been following is actually making money for their hard work...
I always appreciate what these good UA-camrs do and watching a commercial or pitch is a small payback for good content. Keep up the good work Skyler, many of us really appreciate you.
@@Antdibi So it is not for free, when I have to watch commercial after commercial =) And as no one is forcing me to watch the videos, no one is forcing him to create them.
@@heiko4297 I guess its a small price to pay. Years ago youd have to pay more than 2 minutes of your time for this type of education. Thats all im really saying..
@@Antdibi I get what you are saying and I am not angry in any kind. Just said, that it is too much advertising for the amount of knowledge I got from this. It's my opinion, you don't have to agree. I just liked his earlier videos more. They really were about knowledge-transfer. Where nowadays I have the feeling, that the content is just the necessity for selling stuff, you know?
This man is a national treasure.
Amen!

That’s a really good idea for the green backdrop! Thanks 🙏
Great video. I have used leftover laminate wood flooring for this. It just snaps together.
Great channel! Love the explanation and background on how you create your amazing backdrops in this video. Keep it up!

The super leigtweight you using there as the second wood mentioned is Paulownia Wood i think.
Love it! Thanks!
1:34 The lightweight planks are "unfinished pine board" its lighter and inexpensive compared to wood planks
Great tips, thank you.
A nice margarita drink on that vibrant blue you are not sure about would be STUNNING
Your work is very good ....i like very much!! 😘🌷
I see random photographers trying to do food photography in I laugh because Ive seen your work. You are the man!!! Sheesh!!!

Where can I buy the stands that you have the surface sitting on?
Wow you're amazing, i wish i could ask you for help because i am terrible editing and setting my recipe videos 😭😭 thank you for sharing 👍
I need to try this...,
What would you say is the standard size of your backdrops? I love your work.
Hi friend, could you recommend me a softbox for food shots and what size? Thanks

are you still using ( I guess for photos) GODOX SLB60Y lights?
are they any good for food videos?
Looks awesome 👏 are they not too small?

Awesome! Thanks for the advice, I’ll be doing a big stain job soon I’ll have to put that technique to use
Its all cool and fun! but i dont have the time yet 😭
Despise the stickers. A heat gun sometimes gets them to lift right off.
"Expresso stain" ?
Where's the X? haha
💚💖💙
Hey bro, do you still have the 70% off for your tutorials?
No sorry the sale has ended, but a new one will come soon
Third! 😀
You want aged looking backdrops ... don’t leave them in a corner of your studio. Store them outside facing the sun and weather all year round.
First!
