Love your ideas. However, yep, another "however", you over explain "we" get it, please just play more. I'm excited by this lesson's content. Thank You.
This is one of the best videos you’ve made, Jared! These ideas are so important for creating continuity in your solos, and making them sound like they may have even been pre-composed! More than anything I like how it starts to shift your MIND away from thinking along the lines of “what note do I play next? What’s the right note?” and other paralyzing ways of thinking.
game changing. i watched this video, and the phrasing idea has immediately made a difference in how i sound. i'm not just mindlessly playing random notes in a scale.. what a great explanation and video. cheers.
holy friggin cow, this video is honestly game changer and i'm only 3 minutes in. my soloing is just random.. this blueprint idea really makes so much sense. i haven't seen this anywhere else. thank you for this video. subscribed~!!!
I think an underrated aspect of this technique is that is puts parameters on your improvisation. It take a lot guessing work out of your decision of "oh what will i play here" and gives you either a rhythm pattern to follow or notes to follow.
I got back to this video after watching the tip video about phrasing. The proverbial light bulb moment happened, I really am feeling good about it. Thanks Jared.
This is the first video I've seen on this channel. The first exercise, A A' A B, opened the door into a whole new world for me. So fun that I haven't viewed past it yet. It will give me a lifetime of pleasure. Thank you, Jared!
100% agree that phrasing is the most important element. I have been digging in to the first solo from Comfortably Numb trying to capture the feel of DG's playing and although it is several levels up from the ideas in this video the core is still there. Two simple ideas evolve around the G chord with some repetition and variation. The idea then runs over the A chord and there are some subtle rhythmic tricks to create a more interesting interplay with the other instruments. DG drags notes off the main beats so familiar notes are played in an unfamiliar way. I have seen hundreds of videos on scales and modes and arpeggios etc etc but this video should be on every guitarist must watch list.
these are amazing tips! It is a well thought out process that will make oen sound more interesting and helps one to tell the story in their solo instead of just playing random notes along the way. Thanks a million Jared!
awesome lesson. I have been struggling with phrasing for a long time and just playing around with these restrictions has helped me to be a lot happier with my sound. I will practice this until i can do it from intuition.
Great video I have found the best way of improving my phrasing is to copy the vocal lines of Sarah Vaughn. Her pitch is perfect and her phrasing makes her the "the Divine One"
Following this lesson I feel an exponential leap in my guitar playing. Been trying to get a jazz sound for years but this lesson has given me the sound that really resonates in me. Thank you so much!
Jared this is EXCELLENT !! Can you do a lesson on how to phrase for Classic Rock soloing ? Or can you direct me to a video lesson close to this one but on that genre ? Thanks ...very helpful INDEED !!
Nice, really helps build a habit of structure to solos, and conversational awareness. Too often I forget or abandon an idea and just play on the fly. I need to work on this one... a lot.
Thanks a lot for your video lessons, they have taught me a lot and I really appreciate them! This video and your short series on walking bass lines have been very helpful to me.
nice video jared its been since i have been on your channel goos stuff this is what i was looking for. be happy to have you on my channel again if you want for another interview if you have something new to share
When you were playing octaves it reminded me of stuff I’ve heard from Wes Montgomery and it makes me think that’s what he’s doing haha. Oh and I better ask your advice on this.. I just got a looper and I wanna use it to practice. Is there any cool practice ideas you could throw my way? I thought about looping a few chords and practicing arpeggio/soloing ideas. Maybe practicing 2 to the 5 chord, stuff like that.
Yep, that's exactly what Wes is doing! I pluck them instead of strum them but otherwise same sound. For the looper ideas, exactly what you described is the way to go! Loop 2 chords at first and try to play the chord tones over them, then try it on more chords, other keys, and other progressions.
What will i do when there's 4 different chords in 4 different bars? Obviously playing A A in first two chords/bars wont sound good as chord change in second bar.
I could have sworn Dr. Brian Sutterer (the sports injuries channel) was now doing guitar lesson vids. You sound very similar (in tone and inflection) to Brian's narration. Uncanny resemblance.

Im a 61yr old beginner. Stumbled across this channel, wow, thank you

Thanks Man this is 100 time more helpful than minor major penta focced , and zoomed.
This lesson. Un-blocked me after YEARS... Thank you! You are an amazing guitar teacher. Not just anyone can deliver like this! 🎉
I've never heard of that AAAB idea before but I've been doing it naturally forever. That's really good to know thank you.
Some of the best guitar lessons I've ever had are yours, and this one of them. Just what I needed.
Forever grateful for that. You're the best.

That's awesome, Dave! Glad you like them! :) Thanks
You are truly a gifted teacher. Thank you for this. You have opened the fretboard for me after 2o years. :D
Glad to hear that, Ely! Thanks for watching :) -Jared
Wow, this is so great. I've been stuck on scales, but this phrasing idea is making music. I'll never proctise scales in the same way again. Thank you!
Glad to hear that! Thanks for the comment :) ~~ Jared
The best lesson on phrasing I have ever seen.
Thanks bro came in clutch for melodies for my beats this concept is applicable everywhere
Nice!! That’s great to hear :)
Super stuff Jarod, your lessons really help break down a clear method to learn highly desirable skills. Love your channel
Thanks so much, Mitch! :) ~~ Jared
Great, that's what I want to learn most about improvisation!Thank you very much!!

Thanks, Christopher!! Glad you found it helpful :) ~~ Jared
Excellent, so simple but very powerful.
awesome lesson. I have been struggling with phrasing for a long time and just playing around with these restrictions has helped me to be a lot happier with my sound. I will practice this until i can do it from intuition.
Thanks Simon! I'm glad you feel better about your sound. Happy practicing!

Improvisational gold. Cheers Jared.
Great 🎶🎸 lesson. 👍🙏
I absolutely loved this.
The first one is enough for me.
Great lesson Jared - I always look forward to these weekly sessions - sets me up for a week of practicing these ideas
Great to hear that, thanks!! :)
Good ideas, really well-taught. Especially the AA'BA and your AABA blueprints. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Good lesson...gonna be one of my favorite practice...thank you

Thank you. I will play with this.
Right on, Ken! :) Thanks
I’m primarily a pianist, I’ll be using this idea for sure!
Thanks a lot for your video lessons, they have taught me a lot and I really appreciate them! This video and your short series on walking bass lines have been very helpful to me.

Awesome!!
Very great practice technique!
That octave idea was dope
hey thanks! :)
nice video jared its been since i have been on your channel goos stuff this is what i was looking for. be happy to have you on my channel again if you want for another interview if you have something new to share
Another gem, thanks
Great class!
Great performance
Thanks! :)
Outstanding.
Victor Wooten did a cool interview where he essentially said this! Basically he said he can play the wrong notes but with phasing make it feel right
Great channel ! Cheers from Poland ! Btw Your last name sounds familiar here. 🤗
thats nice but what brings anything to life is the heart and soul of the player on any combination of notes but thanks for the excercises
Love this
Oh this is good
I wonder if this technique can also be used for creating vocal melody
Absolutely!
can you upload more videos about Phrasing Bcuz it was a hidden topic

@@soundguitar Oh shit I was right about Wes? Haha. He was a cool player.
Ok awesome I appreciate that input, I’ll do that. They’re pretty fun.
How can i use phrasing across the whole neck?
Nice tone !! Are those round wounds?
Thanks! Yep, round wound
What will i do when there's 4 different chords in 4 different bars? Obviously playing A A in first two chords/bars wont sound good as chord change in second bar.
Mimic the rhythm but change the pitches if needed
Singing along 10:58
Almost did the riff for whole lotta love
How do I know that Im in a specific key while playing melody😅
You need to know your scales and notes on the fretboard.
I could have sworn Dr. Brian Sutterer (the sports injuries channel) was now doing guitar lesson vids. You sound very similar (in tone and inflection) to Brian's narration. Uncanny resemblance.
So basically pharsing is like question and answer conversations on the guitar
❤❤❤ seen.
Thank you for saving my dying guitar interest
If you swing hard enough you can play pretty much anything and it will work.
I can solo like a mad man, but it never sounds worth listening to. This will/ should help me slow down.
Another exercise is playing phrases with just one finger.
CALL THEN RESPOND HAVE A CONVERSATION WITH SELF
INDEEEEED :)
Short questions and long questions short answers and long answers AABA..........,,,,,,,,,,
Not everyone plays a blues format...............
is ok ! but too much talk !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Blablabla blablabla blablabla blablabla.....
Good lesson. Talk less.
Noted
Please less your talking and more to play so that no boaring while watching you phrasing excercise
Nice, Jared; it would be great if you could share the tabs of your phrasing for a beginner like me?
Last time i had a bonus tip was in Thailand in 1991...
