The married couple in one of your photos or montage, were my parents: Antonio Camacho Reyes (Sr) and Encaranation Songao Calvo, both deceased. My sincere heartfelt thank-you for the montage.
So glad you found photos of your parents. If you can send the time stamp number of where the photo is located, I can add their names to the photo collection on the website. Also, I might be able to recognize if I have any other photos of them. I am working on another story about Rota in the 60s right now. kpvcollection@gmail.com
Thanks again for these videos and photos, Kit! They are an absolute blessing for many of us who have never seen childhood photos of our parents and family.
Thank you so much. I am so glad that digitizing there photos and taking advantage of modern technology has meant that you and others can see images of your relatives and ancestors and remember them. It is so difficult to keep photos in the Marianas with the storms, humidity, insects and so on.
Appreciate your comment, Brant. So glad these are meaningful for you and others--exactly what I hoped when I found my old photos and tapes and realized that few others were taking pictures and recording in the 60s on Rota. Am reviewing to determine what other topics for which I have photo and audio-- such as Rota school & library, family gatherings, typhoons, etc. might interest people. Or maybe people have seen enough? Wish more of the photos from other PCVs were labeled so I could use those.
Wow, that was nice! Although I wasn't born yet, I recognize a lot of the sights for they basically still look the same to this day. The speakers were interesting too. I know or knew almost all of them and they sounded just the same as they do now. Thank you for sharing! --Vernon Lee Inos Mangloña.
Thank you so much for letting me know you liked these voices and views from 1960s Rota. I was excited as I listened to old audio tapes to find this one, but worried about people's privacy. Finally decided that it was too special not to share and that adding photos would make it even better.
Thank you so much for letting me know you liked this. It encourages me to continue. I am so glad my mother saved the audio tape and I could add the photos. The Rota students and teachers worked very hard making the recording and sending gifts to the Oakmont students who collected and sent books for the Rota library.
@kpvcollection this is so neat. I can't imagine what a big deal it must have been at the time to the children both in Rota and oakmont. I wish I my school had done this. I never even learned about the Marianas until my 40s.
