I also kinda think that the 2010's was trying real hard to bee 2000 but we still couldn't face all the cringe of it so instead we went galaxy leggings, nerd glasses and an overkill of mustaches on everything.
for sure, now is the time when you can tell it will be a thing but also not everybody is wearing y2k yet so it's still cheap and frequent in thrift stores

I never understood why that J-Lo dress got so many people mesmerized by it. Its a swathe of beautiful fabric, draped over her body and pinned with a broach.

I think it has more to do with how revealing it was. Not many celebrities showed that much body & look good doing it, maybe because they didn't looked or felt as secure of themselves as Jlo did. You can see how a trend between celebrities & designers began after her. Now is the norm to be almost naked & use translucent designs.
Wales007 But J-Lo WASN'T the first one to do it, though. Remember Cher and that black dress she wore to the Oscars? The sheer one, back in the 80's? And Cher was an inspiration to tons of designers. Even Fran Drescher wore dresses on the red carpet that revealed a lot of skin. That flower head dress that a designer specifically made for her! It was made out of real flowers, too! It was so gorgeous.
@@Indiegirl007 yes I remember them specifically Cher who I love, but what I mean & not in "dismissing the credit Cher deserve as a fashion icon manner" is that none of the ones before Jlo created enough attention to literally create Google Images site. Thinking more about it, we have to include that Cher & others who attended those events had american fans & American media following them but when Jlo attended that/those kinds of events she had latinoamericans interested 24/7 in her because the success the movie Selena had in the others americas, I see it as a perfect storm for Jlo.
Everyone has their own explanation, but when I learned about the Kibbe body type system it makes a lot of sense why she looked so special, even though Donatella Versace, Geri Halliwell and Sandra Bullock had already worn a version of the same dress. Her type is Soft Natural and the green dress compliments it beautifully.

I think it has to do with a marketing strategy, wherein their goal is to remove the performing artist's literal body from the advertised product.
I was actually trying to give Britney a more grown-up appeal! The simplicity of my white silk jersey maillot gown frames her youthful beauty and adds a more elegant style to her otherwise playful and girlish style prior to my dressing her. I asked Oscar de la Renta to provide the white fox double pelt stole (echoing the bisected strap detail perfectly) which pushes the look even further into the realm of glamour and goddess energy!

That suit material Ellen is wearing was sooooo popular during the late 90s/early 00s. It had this iridescent shift to it, that was like purple/green. It happened a lot in gray. Pretty sure I had a halter top in that fabric. It was very stiff and wrinkled really easily. Also I am pretty sure Dr. Dre's shoes are Lugz. What a throwback.

These were strange years. I remember thinking the j lo dress was the sexiest thing in the world LOL. New years 2000 i wore a cornflower blue plastic mini skirt with matching platform shoes and silver glittery tights with a white camisole and holographic puffy half vest complete with cucumber melon lotion under blue body glitter. I thought I was IT! Hahaha

Omg I remember having fringes on everything and crop tops, jeans and skirts over the top, halter tops, bandu tops, snake/croc skin/ leather (I had a dark red/burgundy fake snake skin halter belly baring top - it was BAD but I thought I looked so grown up it was very of it time I also had a couple of fake leather skirts and a leather bandu top all from New Look, miss selfrige, MarkOne and maybe H&M). And I think this is when the low rise started by the time I was a teenager (2/4 years later) the Whale Tail was HUGE every girl in my school had the Whale Tail going on no matter if they wore trousers or skirt. This is bringing so much back for me
