- True legends of soul music live in concert: The Four Tops. Recorded 2004 in Miami. Including Levi Stubbs as the lead vocalist, which is a little sensation. Enjoy them and their great music. The song has not been cut. It indeed ends after 02:45.
Levi Stubbs has the most wonderful voice. There will never be another voice like his.. God bless his sweet heart.. love you Levi Stubbs thank you for sharing your beautiful voice with all of us...
"They'd give the world and all they own, for just one moment we have known"
So true. I met him in Brooklyn and took a picture with him. He was an excellent singer and had a great sense of humor. It's a shame that BET never honored this group who until 1997 were the only group to stay together with the same members for 43 years. Levi was in a class by himself.
i am 15 and i think all of our era just listen to rap and all that crap, my dad has got me into all this soul and rhythm and even a bit of reggae!
Levi was "The Voice" of Motown no question about it. The voice that could move hearts and souls is now silenced.
They were with many other labels before joining Hitsville/Motown in 1963. They were the most original group for many years, thanks to Holland-Dozier-Holland, and later Frank Wilson They'd also leave Motown for another 12 years, before returning in 1983.
Im a fan of a bunch of old Motown acts. The Miracles, the Contours, the Temptations, the Four Tops, etc. They all had great leads like Smokey, David Ruffin, and Dennis Edwards. But in my own opinion, Brother Levi topped them all. The guy had a powerful voice even up until his retirement. This vid proves that. May he rest in peace.
Take care of Levi, God.
RIP Levi, we will always remember you.
I'm sure you'll make many jam sessions and sing offs up there... a lotta talent to sing with.
Condolences to his family, be strong, he's still with you.
There will never be another Levi Stubbs!!!
There's something about Levi Stubbs' voice that just makes me feel alive and full of energy and happy! So thank you Levi!!
I played the hell out of this 45 back in the day (anyone remember 45's and record players? lol) Love love love this song and these guys!
If they don't know what a 45 is they need a better education
Love, Love, Love....Thank you for the great memories that I cherish all of my life...
I feel so sad. A great lost to the world of music. That much soul in one man.
R.I.P Levi Stubbs
RIP, Mr. Levi Stubbs. You will be missed, but the great music you put out there will live on forever!
One of the greatest voices that EVER existed. R.I.P. my brother....
Levi Stubbs we loved your music and that 4 top sound. God is blessed to hear that beautiful soulful voice. we miss you and I am sure the remaining guys will continue to do you proud, and carry on the four tops
My fav song by th Four Tops Levi has one of the best soul voices of all time
the world misses one of the truly great voices ever....Mr. Levi Stubbs....r.i.p. my man....
You were blessed Levi, your voice was awesome, man. Bernadette kills me every time over 30 years later.
Me to. Best wishes to you.
One of my favorite Four Tops songs. Levi is one of those singers who takes total control of a song, and Bernadette was one of those songs. Those who did not live to enjoy this period of music missded out on the BEST.
Mr:Stubbs was tough. I saw them in Vegas about 20 yrs and they rock the house. R.I.P Levi. I grew up in South L.A listening to all their song.
I love these guys! They are part of what romance is about. Their voices, their singing, it's all good!
Marschouten you're so right. alot of soul in one man. R.I.P. Levi
me too, loved him, still do, he was my all round favourite artist!!My husband was counting all my Four Tops cd's there are only 15!!!
This tune and the Temptations "Can't Get Next To You" are about my all time favorites of that era. I adored this one when used on The Big Bang Theory as Howard professed love for HIS Bernadette. 💕
A great take on a classis Jamerson line.He pays homage to it ,and then makes it his own on that 5 string Alembic, Killer tone ,very strong, voice. 10/10,excellent player.
Long live the great Levi Stubbs.
One of the great voices of soul. Levi Stubbs, as American as Levi jeans.
I love these guys so much, it's ridiculous. Through eternity there will always be, Levi, Duke, Obie, & Lawrence
wow.....timeless..These guys are the best!
A shining example of how when a singer has true talent, it never really goes! Levi Stubbs has an astonishing voice!
You've left a legacy of beautiful music that will never die.
Loved you and will miss you.
RIP, Levi Stubbs. Gone but NEVER, EVER forgotten.
Nothing but class!!Could listen to them day and night.I just love Levi's voice1
I love, this, I miss levi obie the other guy can never replace levi
After all this time, this song still gives me goosebumps. RIP Levi....
Levi Stubbs...R.I.P. you are very much missed....Props to Obie, Lawrence too....
stunning! Saw them in Manchester UK! Brill act!
Grew up outside of Detroit in the 60s and listented to CKLW with these great motown hits. This rural white boy got to see the Four Tops in Atlantic City in the 80s, Fantastic
A classic act! RIP Levi Stubbs
RIP Levi one of the most distinctive voices in classic R&B, thank you so much!!!
I saw these guys in concert in Toronto, February 14, 2005 - outstanding show! Theo Peoples had replaced Audrey II as lead singer but the quartet was still unmistakable as the Four Tops. Obie Benson still had the moves. Sadly, Abdul Fakir is the only one left, as Obie died later that year.
Soul music back when it was just that, music with a soul. Fun, funky, positive, thoughtful and full of class.
Loved Sam & Dave, Otis & Marvin et al, but for my jack the power & glory of Levi is the great all time power, soulful, voice for all genres of rock!
RIP boys, hopefully someday I'll have earned my way up to listen to you live!
Motown is 50! Happy Birthday from the United Kingdom!
The ultimate performers...the voice and on-stage presence of Levi Stubbs is unmatched today!!!
Damn!!!...Levi was pushin that shit out!!!!...no studio voice box...so sad there's no talent like that in soul music no more!!!
why can't music be like this anymore? this is perfect.
One of my most favourite songs of all time 💥💥💥💥😁
How nice to see the Four Tops together and especially Levi singing ! I do miss him !

One of the true classics of R and B and MoTown. Simply awesome.
THANK GOD FOR REAL MUSIC !!!! LEVI WAS ONE OF THE VERY BEST.....MORE SOUL IN HIS LITTLE TOE THAN THESE YOUNG CATS NOW.......R.I.P. LEVI
Levi Stubbs and the Tops are amazing. What a long career and still is such good form. The band is killin' it! The bass player is smoking ... playing Jamerson and thumpin' popping too (hear some Jaco in there too) Enjoyed this a lot. Thanks for the post.
Just love this song...God Bless the Four Tops they are and were the greatest !!!!!
God Bless You Levi. 100% Soul 24 Carat Pure

If you have EVER heard a better male vocalist get it uploaded and let us all hear it.... Levi Stubbs....R.I.P
My favorite Song Burnadette
Truly great performance and gotta love Levi Stubbs. Too bad James Jamerson wasn't around to play that classic bassline again.
+adamwelshaupt81, if this show was recorded in 2004, that would make levi 68 years old at the time. levi was diagnosed with cancer in '95. obie passed away in 2005, and by then, levi had suffered a stoke and was no longer with the group. he died in 2008. I guess the time frame would fit, kind of, but it seems off to me. is it right? 68 years old and he was still friggin unrivaled even then!! I love the man!!
I'm with you sis! Never will stop loving that guy.
Wow!! Soooo good to hear this after many years
@adamweishaupt81 You sure do hear Violins, Brass, Guitars, Bass and they ARE singing Bernadette! Great buncha guys. I really miss the Motown stuff.
Yeah, and I think it was probably 1999 or 2000, because I know that after Lawrence Payton passed in 1997, they did at least one tour as "The Tops" instead of "The Four Tops," with just the Duke, Levi, and Obie. Theo joined later. Their career is inspiring to say the least.
magical
On this date in 1967 {February 19th} the Four Tops appeared on the CBS-TV program 'The Ed Sullivan Show'...
They performed a medley of their hits; "Reach Out I'll Be There {#1 for two weeks in 1966}, "I Can't Help Myself" {#1 for two weeks in 1965}, and "Bernadette" {#4 in 1967}...
R.I.P. Levi Stubbs {1936 - 2008}, Renaldo "Obie" Benson {1936 - 2005}, Lawrence Payton {1938 - 1997}, Mr. Sullivan {1901 - 1974}, and Abdul "Duke" Fakir celebrated his 78th birthday this past December 26th...
On this date in 1967 {Mar. 11th} "Bernadette" entered Billboard's Top 100; eventually it would peaked at #4 spent 10 weeks in the Top 100.
Ranked 82nd on Billboard Year-End Hot 100 Singles of 1967 chart..
Was 3rd in a string of 3 straight records by the Four Tops to make the Top 10; started with "Reach Out I'll Be There" {#1}, then "Standing In The Shadows Of Love" {#6}, and finally this one.
When the song was 1st released there were some who thought the record's title was "Burnt To Death"!!!
These guys are the best!
check the date of 2004 for the recording of this piece. Stubbs was very ill il 2004 and no longer performing. Great group, great songs, Levi was one of a kind - I once read that he never took top billing - they were just the 4 tops.. from when they were in high school right to the end..
This video is circa 1996, Levi stopped performing around 1999
Filo da Torcere
Filo da Torcere c
not only did he refuse top billing and offers to go solo, but he also insisted the money be divided four equal ways. he never made a penny more than the other tops.
Bassist not backing down from a single note. Great performance.
Hey Saxman - you may only be 15, but you have the music soul of a 60s 15-year old raised on tamla !
another great song!
Thank you Cheesecake Factory!!!!! :D
I saw this Tour!! in B-more
Pure nostalgie
The bassline is Just fuckin amazing...
I will have this song by my funeral.
This was not in 2004, Levi’s stoke in 2000 left him disabled, and he did not perform after 2000. This was sometime between 1997 and 1999
@charleslytle Obie passed away in 2005. Levi suffered a stroke and was forced to retire in 2000. So it still couldn't be from after 2000.
This was Levi's last performance in Miami in 2000 thats whenLevi had already picked Theo to replace him prior to this. 96 was the last time all the original Tops performed.
Yes, the DVD Chapter ends right there after 2:45 because the next song (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch) starts at 2:46 (just like in a medley).
nothing but the gods honest Truth,99
That great voice of Audrey from "Little Shop of Horrors". FEED ME SEYMOUR!!
Love the tops
Sweet bernie
I got this song on one of my CDs.
LOVE THIS
motown=amazing......................
This must have been between 1998 and 2000 before Levi became ill and stopped performing. Interesting how he paces himself, half singing, half "rapping" :-) but he still gets away with it - he was over 60 here - his voice is not what it was (nature) but.....he is still THE MAN!!!!!!!!
i disagree. listen to the first few verses, he simplifies it massively to make it less busy and easier to follow for the vocalists. he does this and still manages to add some tasteful flourishses and slap parts. it's different from the original but an amazing piece in it's own right. he builds it up as the song progresses and to me, this not only sounds natural but exciting, too. bass player = 10/10
My all-time favourites and musical heroes since 1965.
Fourtops4ever can you post dvd title please?
6*
Sweet Bernadette...
love it
Say I if the bog bang theory got you here... Also p.s. BERNADETT and lastly THANK YOU CHEESE CAKE FACTORY!!!!!!!!!
